It is fantastic to connect with the grassroots groups here in New York State that have helped elect Barack Obama President of the United States. I genuinely want to thank you for your hard work and keeping the movement sustained, energized and coordinated.

While researching New York's 29th Congressional District I came across your group(s) and I wanted to introduce myself. My name is Bennett Baruch and currently, I am the New York State volunteer liaison at Organizing for America (OFA), where I am acting as a conduit between the folks in Washington D.C.

Please forgive me if this is repetitive, but I think necessary for background. Our President, for the first time in history is building an organization to remain in contact with the 13 million+ volunteers/organizers that built a bottom-up engine across this great country, which elected him to the highest office. OFA is a vehicle for dialogue between the Legislative/Executive Branches and the American people - mobilizing and strengthening volunteer leadership. At its core, OFA is focused on electoral/legislative organizing, civic engagement and expanding the existing grassroots community to support President Obama.

Yes We Did!

I think I have been waiting for this moment my whole life! The pride I feel in this country and the rest of the world is immense. His belief that we are the power behind our government has never resonated so much the last few days. The only other times I cried tears of joy like that was giving birth to my children. It's surreal and pure joy at the same time. I can't wait to pull up my sleeves and get to work when we are called upon to continue our participation in a government of the people, by the people, for the people. I will answer that call with renewed energy and faith in this nation. And of course with those 3 beautiful words, Yes We Can!

HQ has been so busy co-ordinating all of our wonderful volunteers, the blog has taken a back seat. Here's a taste of what's been going on.

O.K. So I Stopped Yelling at the T.V.

Well, it's Monday, tomorrow, Tuesday, October 28th makes it one week to voting day which I hope makes victory for Senator Barack Obama/and Senator Joe Biden the reality I've been praying it will be! True, I used to scream at the T.V. when watching Sarah Palin -- but now, I just shudder at the thought, actually the nightmare, that are the Republicans -- and that although I am somewhat confident that the Democrats will win, "somewhat" to keep myself in check and not "too jinx" my party...what if?...Oh, I shudder! My Goodness, if Senator John McCain Can't Reign in his own choice for "Vice Presidential" hopeful -- a choice which first of all, had everyone, even those in his own party, scratching their heads. Apparently, the Republicans working on and for the McCain Party are referring to her as a "Diva"... All the money for the clothes (mind you in an economy where people are losing their homes) -- seems to me she wants the vote of the "Hockey Mom's", but she, herself, does not want to be one, The Country Singer, Hank Williams, Jr. won't even refer to it as the McCain/Palin ticket, but the Palin/ McCain ticket to the frenzy of whatever crowd he is performing too -- seems she likes to be on top, as in the case of, dare I say "Trooper-gate", it was found that she abused her power while in office, yet we seem to over-look that...How, if Senator McCain can't even put a stop to the antics of his own choice to be Vice President of the United States, can he put a stop to all that is ailing the United States. That is my Question, and it shouldn't just be my question -- it should be everybody's! Even Die-Hard Republicans! Don't call yourself a "Maverick" when clearly that is not the case, not in this instance. You can buy it clothes and dress it up, but you can never, never, make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. When considering John McCain for the highest office in the Land should we not first think of his poor judgement, in this case, the selection of a running mate, who is starting to believe in her own "hype!". Than, when people want answers to questions to a falling apart economy, people who are losing jobs and can't find them since they have been outsourced to "save money" -- yet today, we have one of the largest deficits, if not, the largest deficit, in U.S. history -- people losing their homes, people who in the year 2008 don't have Healthcare -- for themselves or their families -- and, lest we forget, a War -- we have been in, and are still fighting and dying in, 5 yrs. later -- one we should never have been in, Senator McCain made a "conscious" decision to run a smear campaign like none other I have witnessed in all my voting years, perferring to stay away from the issues as the economy is not his "strong suit", and believing our economy to be "fundamentally sound". He wanted to "attack" Senator Barack Obama! Everyday, another dirty tactic, another lie! Going further, I find, Senator McCain to be rather erratic, oftentimes, repetitive, and simply, angry. But back to the initial question, if Sen. McCain can't stop Palin's bad behavior, how does he stop the bad behavior of our "enemies", like Iran or Russia, for example. This is a serious question, and scary, as well. O.K. he can be a "Maverick", and yes, I respect his service to our country and the fact that he is a true hero in that sense. My own son just re-upped his service and will soon be a Seargant in the U.S Army stationed in Iraq -- on the front lines and going Airbourne -- and my husband and I watched our youngest boy, take his oath to support and defend his country, as he enlisted to the Navy, so yes I believe Senator John McCain to be a hero in the regard that he served and suffered for his country, but let's be honest, in NO WAY does that entitle him to the biggest office in this country, and in NO WAY can he be President of the United States with Sarah Palin by his side. That job, my friends, should go to Senator Barack Obama, and Senator Joe Biden as Vice President.

Unethical Work Practices (Monopoly)

Is it ethical for an employer to have their employees make phones calls to the public with the agenda of promoting John McCain when the employees are democrats? Is it ethical for the same employer to fire their employees if they refuse to make these calls because they are democrats? Is this considered to be an equal opportunity employer? Can your employer impose upon you as a democrat to promote a republican?

This weekend we're holding phonebanks at campaign offices and other locations across New York so that Obama supporters can reach out to voters in swing states. No experience is needed to participate -- staff will give you all the resources you need to succeed. All you need to do is bring your cell phone. The Obama Channel - DISH Network Customers!

If you are a DISH Network customer, you can now tune to channel 73 for Obama TV. I only found out about this tonight, and right now it is showing a biography of Barack. According to DISH Network, it is purchased air-time, not an endorsement, so there is no need for "equal time."

McCain on Health Care

I just came across this on Huffington Post. It seems that John McCain's plan for health care plane is to deregulate the health care system:

"Opening up the health insurance market to more vigorous nationwide competition, as we have done over the last decade in banking, would provide more choices of innovative products less burdened by the worst excesses of state-based regulation." -- from "Better Health Care at Lower Cost for Every American" by John Mcain.

He clearly wants to apply the same policies to health care that have caused the current financial crisis. We do not need this kind of leadership in America. We need real reform for real people.

Where is the Media

I have been watching the deterioration of the political campaign with dismay. What I find the most troubling is not the mud slung by the candidates, but the lack of interest by the national media in holding them accountable. I will focus on the McCain camp, because on www.factcheck.org today (Sept. 16) there are 12 highlighted stories that point out misinformation by the campaigns. Nine of these are misstatements and out right lies by the McCain camp and their supporters. Here are three examples I see the media not following up on. The first is the "Bridge to Nowhere", which McCain used on CNN this morning. The McCain campaign has repeatedly claimed that Sarah Palin refused federal funding for the bridge. However, they do not point out that she initially supported the bridge and only changed her position when the funding was getting negative national press. Furthermore, she took the money and spent it on other projects. That is still pork barrel, as far as I can tell. The second is the claim that Obama supports sex education for children in kindergarten. Obama supported teaching young children about stranger danger, something we all should support given very real dangers of sex predators to our kids. The third point is on taxes. The McCain camp has repeatedly said that Obama will raise taxes on the middle class. However, for all American's making less then $250,000/year Obama's plan will give a larger tax cut then the McCain plan. Thus taxes would only be raised on about 2% of the US population, 98% would see a tax cut. For example, a family making $38,000/year would save about $700 with Obama. During the most critical election in my lifetime, I don't see the media doing their jobs. Why aren't reporters doing their job and calling the candidates out? Even Karl Rove says it has gone to far. Has the news media really lost its spine that much?

Palin Will Not Cooperate

Sarah Palin has indicated that she will not cooperate with the "Troopergate" investigation. If anyone doubts that a McCain-Palin White House would be the same as a Bush White House, you have your answer. It will be more obstruction and secrecy. So much for open government. If she did not do anything wrong why is she stonewalling? Clearly she has something to hide. Make sure to tell people you know about this breaking story. We have to get the word out about her corruption.

Sarah Palin

Last night I witnessed a horrifying video, one which I thought I would never see in American Politics as an actual possibility. It was a video of Sarah Palin addressing a congregation in Alaska telling them that it was possible to 'pray the gay away' and that the war in Iraq is gods will, that the generals are carrying out gods will.

And if you thought the Reverend Wright scandal was bad, wait until you see the video of sarah palin listening to a minister talk about how the reason Israel was being bombed by terrorists was because they didn't acept christ as their savior and that it was gods will. BASICALLY, she was clapping and sitting through a speech where a guy was praising the very terrorism she is supposed to be against.

I'm posting this blog with the intent to reach out to as many people as I can. I am a supporter for Barack Obama, and I am also a supporter of myself. I am not looking for any political gain, nor am I trying to divert anyone away from our struggle to get Obama elected as our next president of our great nation. I do not in any way believe the content of this blog is objectionable. I am a registered voter and citizen of our nation. I am reaching out to let people know about my website. It's called Talk Of The Web It is user friendly and safe for children. As I am a poor american, is the reason I am resorting to using this forum to publish my site, and also the reason I am voting for Barack Obama, so that we don't have to resort to these measures to succeed when he becomes our next president. Voting Process

Below is an excerpt on the United States presidential election from Wikipedia's free encyclopedia. How elections are administered

The president and vice president of the United States are elected on the same ticket by the Electoral College, whose members are selected by each state; the president and vice president serve concurrent four-year terms. These electors are appointed by mechanisms chosen by each state's legislature (prevailingly, by popular vote of the voters of each state). The individual who receives a majority of votes for president — as of 2008, 270 votes are needed for a majority — will be the president-elect of the United States; and the individual who receives a majority of electoral votes for vice president will be the vice president-elect of the United States. If no presidential candidate receives a majority in the Electoral College, then the president-elect will be selected by a vote of the House of Representatives, with each state receiving a single vote. If no vice presidential candidate receives a majority, then the vice president-elect will be selected by a vote of the Senate. Although rare, these latter scenarios have occurred twice in America's history; the House of Representatives chose the president in 1825, and the Senate chose the vice president in 1837.

The candidate who wins the popular vote generally wins the election; however, there have been 4 exceptions in American history:

1824: John Quincy Adams is elected by the U.S. House of Representatives over electoral and popular vote majority winner Andrew Jackson, after an alledged "Corrupt Bargain" with Speaker of the house Henry Clay.

1876: Rutherford B. Hayes is elected President after receiving a majority in the electoral college, even though Democrat Samuel J. Tilden received the popular vote.

1888: Incumbent Grover Cleveland receives a majority of the popular vote, but is defeated in the electoral college by Republican Benjamin Harrison.

2000: Then Governor of Texas George W. Bush defeats Vice President Al Gore after narrowly and controversially winning Florida by a margin of 537 votes.

Elections take place every four years on the first Tuesday following the first Monday of November (although in many states early and absentee voting begins several weeks before Election Day). The elections are run by local election boards which ensure the fair and impartial nature of the election and prevent tampering of the results.

Neither the Constitution, nor the Amendments describe the manner in which states must select their electoral college representatives. This means that individual citizens are not Constitutionally guaranteed the right to vote for president by the federal government, but rather by their respective state or local governments. Technically, individual states do have a right therefore to bar their citizens from voting for President. (See Disfranchisement.) END OF EXCERPT.

Based on the information in the above excert from wikipedia, the everyday average citizen isn't actually voting for the president we choose to vote for. Being the case, we as citizens have to make absolutely sure that our votes for the president are being cast to the person we actually choose by the elector responsible for representing us.
