Perhaps we are asking the wrong questions during election years. Our Senators and Congresswomen do not pay into Social Security and, of course, they do not collect from it. You see, Social Security benefits were not suitable for persons of their rare elevation in society. They felt they should have a special plan for themselves so, many years ago they voted in their own benefit plan. In more recent years, no congressperson has felt the need to change it. After all, it is a great plan. For all practical purposes their plan works like this: When they retire, they continue to draw the same pay until they die. Except it may increase from time to time for cost of living adjustments. For example, Senator Byrd and Congressman White and their wives may expect to draw $7, 800,000.00 (that's Seven Million, Eight-Hundred Thousand Dollars), with their wives drawing $275, 000.00 during the last years of their lives. This is calculated on an average life span for each of those Dignitaries. Younger Dignitaries, who retire at an early age, Will receive much more during the rest of their lives. Their cost for this excellent plan to them is $0.00. NADA!!! ZILCH!!! This little perk they voted for themselves is free to them. You and I pick up the tab for this plan. The funds for this fine retirement plan come directly from the General Funds; "OUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK"! From our own Social Security Plan, which you and I pay (or have paid) into, every payday until we retire (which amount is matched by our employer), We can expect to get an average of $1,000 per month after retirement. Or, in other words, we would have to collect our average of $1,000 monthly benefits for 68 years and one (1) month to equal Senator Bill Bradley's benefits! Social Security could be very good if only one small change were made. That change would be to jerk the Golden Fleece Retirement Plan from under the Senators and Congressmen. . Put them into the Social Security plan with the rest of us then sit back and see how fast they would fix it! If enough people receive this, maybe a seed of awareness will be planted and maybe good changes will evolve.

Organizing for Austin-Central Texas held our healthcare kickoff meeting tonight and it went very well. Our 15 attendees began the planning process for a health care day of service on the weekend of June 27/28. We decided that the main problem here in Texas is that we have the highest number of uninsured children. We decided to use this as an umbrella over all our service projects in Central Texas. This way, we can volunteer at Children's Hospital (rock the babies), do something with free immunizations, do a baby food/forumula/diaper drive, etc. Our group members are setting up an event to create a resource list for uninsured children to distribute at several locations around town. Anyone will be able to print this document and take part where ever they'd like to help. They will be putting information up at barackobama.com if you'd like to help with this event. I encourage all clubs and Austinites to create your own child centered service project for the weekend of June 27/28 to highlight this national day of service. Of course, if you'd rather do something not child-centered, please do! The point is for us to do a healthcare day of service for whatever needs you are moved by.To schedule your service event on mybo, go here:http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/service There is still time to get a group together to plan your own service event, please do this with your friends, neighbors, colleages and family by next Wednesday. To schedule to host your own healthcare kickoff to start planning, go here:http://my.barackobama.com/hcok-mybo Thank you for all you do!--Lainey Melnick

Hello fellow voters,
Call your insurance agent and change your policy form AIG to another carrier (Probably better to pick a respectable mutual insurance company, ex.. Guardian, Mass Mutual, Northwestern Mutual, New York Life). AIG is not going to apologize or correct their misuse of our tax dollars, unless we lower their amount of the policies in force dollars. So, if you are really upset change your policy, I don't care if its life, long-term care, short and long term disability, auto, or health insurance. Just hit them where it works and let’s ask the President to put a special tax on AIG and or request for all our money back. Let’s make an example out of AIG, to set a standard for all other financial and non-financial firms.
Please people lets use common sense when changing your policy, make sure you apply, get the underwriters acceptance, and the in-force policy with the final policy letter, then cancel your AIG policy. This process should take 20 to 30 days.
Sincerely,
A disgruntle taxpayer.
This is why I love my new president. He gets it.
He knows it isnt about the money -- $165M, as much as it is to the ordinary individual, is a rounding error in the $700B TARP Bailout, or the $787B Stimulus Package, but the principle is vitally important here. The principle being that it is time to stop the wildly outrageous corporate bonuses, especially in the egregious case of AIG, which would be bankrupt if not for a massive $170B government bailout.
There are plenty of people out there who aren't getting any bonus. There are plenty of people who are losing their jobs. There are plenty of people who are taking a salary/wage cut. There are plenty of people who are going without a salary increase.
At a time of widespread economic distress, I am once again confident that President Obama is completely aware of this, and is taking actions to both get our economy back on track, and executive compensation back in balance.
God Bless Barack Obama. God Bless the United States of America.
The prediction "Low to none hurricane activity this year" has been removed UNTIL further notice...Bothering continues to be seen....
La
I have been and continue to be a strong supporter of Barack Obama and his new administration. However, I cannot in good conscience accept the payout of $165M in bonuses to AIG executives and employees, due to "previous legal contractual obligations".
I am an engineer and not a lawyer, but I can't imagine that under these extraordinary circumstances, there really is an obligation to pay out bonuses to a company that has already been the recipient of $170B in government money. Obviously , the company would have gone bankrupt without the government intervention. Needless to mention the fact that this situation was due to a certain extent to the actions of those very executives in line for these bonuses.
I am suspicious that the real reason behind the excuses is a reluctance to "chase away" some of the top executives at AIG since these bonuses have been termed by some to be "retention bonuses". I really wonder how true that is also. These people should be thankful that they still have a job, and are not in jail! Forget about a multi-million dollar bonus.
In addition to the doubts I have about the competence of these individuals, I am also of the view that they are liable for criminal and civil penalties. So, if we the taxpayer, keep getting lied to and told that the bonuses must be paid, then criminal and civil penalties should be pursued against all those who accept them.
It’s amazing how one man can affect an entire nation. In less than one week from the most electrifying election in our lifetime many people felt born again. Inspired by the Campaign for Change Movement of President Barack Obama, a new radio talk show was created in Detroit.
Church & State Talk Radio is a non-partisan empowering and informative radio production. They present Washington segments from Capitol Hill. The young team presents an innovative, vibrant freshness in conducting weekly interviews of national and local political and religious leaders They aim to educate listeners every Saturday with a better understanding of government, politics and the religious community.
A team of three motivated and innovative young people, consultanting with seasoned professionals, as they work together to educate the community on the political issues that matter to our society. Hosted by newcomer, Nina Calahan-James, Kwame Hardy, a production specialist and Attorney Joe Humphrey, the legal analyst for the show.
Church and State Talk Radio were one of the few broadcast programs in Detroit, invited by the United States Senate Media Committee, to have seated tickets for the swearing in ceremony of President Barack Obama on January 20, 2009. With only a few thousand people including celebrities having seated tickets, Nina Calahan-James was seated in radio row, seat number 96, reported from Capitol Hill.
U.S. Senate Chaplain, Dr. Barry C. Black, the first person of color in the nation’s history to serve the spiritual needs of our law makers., was Church & State Talk show’s first guest to introduce America’s perspective on religion. On February 7, 2009 the threesome examined with Chaplain Dr. Black, the historic separation of Church and State, but not the separation of God and State Calahan-James questioned the Chaplain as to his relationship with the various members of congress. He indicated, Americans would be quite surprised of the congress members seeking his daily counsel and attending services.
Clearly stating his relationship with the new president, Barack Obama, Co-Host, Kwame Hardy asked, Chaplain Black, if he were listed in President Obama’s blackberry? As one of the most interesting guest on the new political talk show, Chaplain Dr. Black, will appear on the show again in March and April taking questions from callers.
This team of three determined, young people air live every Saturday on the propelling proselytizing Christian conservative talk show oriented, Salem Communication owners of WDTK 1400AM and WLQV 1500AM. The station has introduced to Detroit a cast of flamboyant, acid tongues personalities that callers and listeners can love or hate depending on their ideological persuasion.
WDTK brings a line-up unloading right leaning conservatives, Church and State Talk Radio brings a different flavor, non-partisan approach on WLQV. Through out the recent presidential campaign, Calahan-James was a freelance writer and maintained the blog for the Campaign for Change Southfield, Michigan Headquarters. She’s the founder of Domestic Intervention Violence Awareness Services, D.I.V.A.S. Inc., Joe Humphrey was a community prosecutor assisting the United States Attorney Office, now in private practice. Hardy, a production specialist for WLQV. Humphrey and Calahan-James bring an analytical approach to the show.
I will remember the last 8 years of financial destruction here in the US and the bloodshed of millions of civilians on a global scale. most honest political and financial experts consider him the worst leader america has ever had and this is why.

Today -- 1/1/09, I submitted the feedback for my community health care discussion hosted at the Twin Oaks Branch of the Austin Public Library in 78704Land. There were 4 attendees including myself. I felt the discussion was very productive, and I was pleasantly surprised that we even had 4 attendees given the lack of publicity provided by the Obama change.gov website and the timing of these discussions around the holidays.
Nonetheless, I am thankful the Obama/Biden/Daschle Health Care Team had the idea of providing these public forums on health care. It bodes well for the prospect of urgently needed health care reform in this country.
In addition, I would **highly** recommend HHS Sec'y-Designate Daschle's recent book on health care reform: Critical What We Can Do About the Health-Care Crisis
The book was very well written, stayed right to the point, and did not get bogged down in lots of details that would only be meaninful to a career expert on health care. Any person having some familiarity with current events, and in interest in the current crisis in health care in this country can follow this book.
