'Twas the Night Before the Election - Successful

Last night in Saint Joseph, Missouri; 85 people came to 'Twas the Night Before the Election, and ate Baracky Road or Whirl's of Change ice-cream. Barack Obama is going to win today and I am happy that I worked on his campaign. He is smart and nice, and I am happy he will be our President.

Kids for Obama Coloring Sheets

I was volunteering at my local headquarters this evening - doing some data entry, making calls, hanging signs, etc. There were some kids off to the side in a small area they had setup for them. I took some time to engage these kids and help them make a sign to hang on the wall of the headquarters.

In doing this I was reminded of something that I saw a while ago and thought was pretty neat - Obama coloring sheets for kids. The one I found online was of the older logo, so I took a couple minutes to update and post them here.

So, if you are going into a headquarters to volunteer print some of these sheets off and take along some crayons. It’s a great way to get kids engaged in the process…

I am home from school today because I am feeling just a little sick, but I think you should know what happened in Colorado yesterday. Mom gave me permisson to type this, but then I have to go back to bed. Joe is Vice Presidential Candidate, Senator Joe Biden.

Joe talked about something unexpected that happened to him earlier in the day. He said a man came up to him and said, "bring our kids home from Iraq."

Joe's eyes got watery as he said, “he pinned this on my lapel. It’s a gold star. The only way you get a gold star is if you lose a child in battle."

He then said, "And folks," his throat tightening a bit, “that’s the second reason why I’m running. We’re going to end this war.”

“Amen!” a man shouted as volunteers applauded, several wiping their eyes.

HARTFORD, Conn. -- The Department of Consumer Protection warned consumers Wednesday not to eat "White Rabbit Creamy Candy," imported from China and distributed by Queensway Foods Company Inc. of Burlingame, Calif.

The candy was found on several Connecticut store shelves the week of Sept. 29 by agency food safety inspectors and removed, agency Commissioner Jerry Farrell Jr. said. Tests by the Connecticut Agriculture Experiment Station Laboratory have determined that the product contains melamine, he said.

Melamine has been associated recently with contaminated infant formula and other milk protein-containing products in China, as well as a major pet food recall last year. The chemical is used in plastics manufacturing and as an adulterant in foods to simulate protein.

Consumers who have White Rabbit candy should discard it immediately, Farrell said. Individuals who have already consumed the candy and have questions about its heath impact should consult their health-care

providers, he said.

Queensway Foods Company Inc. has initiated a recall of all varieties of the White Rabbit candy, which is packaged in plastic bags with individually wrapped pieces inside. All varieties of the candy have a picture of a white rabbit with a black background on the top of the bag; Chinese characters are also present on the label.

"Our inspectors are currently obtaining retail-level distribution information from the company, and we will provide this information to the public as soon as it is available," Farrell said. "Meanwhile, we continue our work with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to help in the inspection and evaluation of imported food items that could contain milk or milk protein from China."

At this time, it appears that the product was sold primarily in Asian food stores. Consumers with questions about the recalled product may contact Queensway Foods Company Inc. at 650-697-6633.

Help Needed to Write a Book about Obama

Greetings Friends,

My name is Victoria DePaul. I am an author, business consultant and training facilitator, specializing in leadership, management and personal self-development. Some weeks ago I began a book that explores Barack Obama's success as a leader. Because of the negative attack strategy that the republicans have chosen I have accelerated the time line for bringing this book to the public. I believe that many of Obama's supporters are drawn to his message because he can inspire and motivate. At this time the book is tentatively titled:

Obama: Leadership for the Third Millennium

In the absence of a viable platform promoting effective change, the Republican Party has resorted to what appears the only strategy they know- diverting the voter from any discussion of substance while creating suspicion of the opponent. And why not? It worked for George Bush. In 2003 he had most of Americans believing that there was a terrorist lurking on every corner. To change leadership would ensure certain attack and so for the sake of homeland security, in fear, his re-election was secured. Instead of a campaign based on real solutions for real problems, we can count on the Republic campaign strategy of smear and fear. John Kerry's campaign was damaged when Unfit for Command, co-authored by Jerome Corsi, attacked Kerry's war record. Now Corsi has authored another book of the smear and fear genre, this time attacking Barack Obama. While McCain strongly spoke out against the attacks on Kerry, this time he has no comment.

We knew it was coming. The attack on Barack Obama has been on-going. As we move closer to November we can expect it will intensify. This is American politics. Or so it has been. The Republicans have yet to figure out that we are on to them. The game is up. You would think that by now they would have asked themselves, 'what is it about Barack Obama that has aroused the passions of millions of supporters, not only in the USA but worldwide as well?" The answer is obvious to any 10 year old. In fact, there are many 10 year olds who are as excited about Barack Obama as their parents. While Republican leaders are top experts in generating fear and suspicion, Obama has presented himself as a leader able to involve millions of people by generating the hope of a new kind of politics and a vision of positive change.

I would like to include in this book quotes and stories from supporters on what makes Obama a superior leader. Ideally, I would like at least 2 quotes from each of the 50 states. On the chance that there is someone out there who really is an Obama Supporter......

As most of you know, after almost a quarter century of management/leadership experience in Corporate America and an author of Leadership books, I am a self-proclaimed Leadership expert - emphasis on 'Self-proclaimed'. Lately I have been puzzled by Barack's apparent 'flip-flops'. My knee-jerk reaction had been doubt. I found myself questioning intent and integrity. I sat down with the situation to carefully examine what is going on and have come to these conclusion on Barack Obama's leadership style:

1) Superior Leadership comes from understanding the 'environment' at the time. Consider the Public Funding issue. When the original suggestion was made on accepting Public Funding Barack had no idea that his supporter base was/is as large as it is. He may have also believed that the Republicans and their supporters would debate an issue or two - as opposed to their preferred campaign strategy based on smear and fear.

2) Superior Leadership demands that once a leader determines and understands the current 'environment' then the leader must act accordingly (with deliberation and immediacy) in response to the new situation. Often that change in direction will result in an apparent contradiction of a prior course of action or a decison that will upset many.

3) Superior Leadership requires a Vision, and a pragmatic strategy to achieve said Vision. We are clear on the Vision. Not only has Barack shown us the Vision- look to the top of this page. We are a part of that Vision. New strategies must be designed to take us where we say we want to go. New strategies will ask us to be flexible and encompassing.

4) Superior Leadership demands that you take a hit. Tough decisions have to be made that will bring out both the positive and negative energies of people. Superior leaders understand how to deal with both.

5) Superior Leadership understands the value of communication. It requires a means for individuals to air their concerns, suggestions and align with others. This blog, indeed this campaign, does just that.

6) Superior Leadership understands that no one person can be the sole expert on all issues. The role of the Leader is to understand the problem and assemble a qualified leadership team, expert in a specific area. In the past weeks and days we have seen committees formed of national experts on issues of foreign policy, the DNC, the economy, election strategies and even the VP selection process. The announcement of Platform meetings all over the country brings ALL OF US into the government process.

So after all of this analysis, what am I left with? I am left with a candidate who offers the possibility of change. I am left with a Vision of government- of the people, by the people, for the people. I understand that the first step in this process begins with my contribution of positive energy- both in time and finances. Afterall, this isn't a campaign, it's a movement.....and that movement begins with me.

My name is Victoria DePaul. I am the Coordinator of Youth in Action for Nation For Change. Nation for Change began as a grassroots organization in support of the candidacy of Barack Obama. New Superdelegate - Arizonan Charlene Fernandez!

Charlene Fernandez, newly elected Arizona Democratic Party First Vice Chairwoman and superdelegate, has endorsed Senator Barack Obama for president.

“Senator Barack Obama is strengthening the Democratic Party by bringing in new voters, young and old, into the process. I believe Senator Obama has the best ability to win the White House in November and lead this country forward," Fernandez stated.

Fernandez was elected as First Vice Chairwoman of the Arizona Democratic Party - today! She is Senator Obama’s 241st superdelegate endorsement.

Senator Obama is now 290 delegates away from winning the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination.
