Hello everyone,
For those of you who don’t know me, I was the Colorado New Media director for the Obama campaign. I’m now working with an organization called ProgressNow, which works to advance progressive politics and fight back against right wing propaganda in Colorado. We’re also working closely with OFA.
We know OFA is probably keeping you busy these days fighting for health insurance reform and we are working hard on those efforts too, in collaboration with OFA. We’ve been working to grow a listserv we call our GrassRoots Leaders. It’s made up of activists across the state and organizational leaders. And we’ve used this list to share information about events, local happenings and organizational happenings. The group also offers you a place to ask questions, find out more about the issues and learn about ways to get involved in local political action.
We’d love for you to join. Click on the link below and sign up.
http://www.progressnowcolorado.org/page/s/rootsleaders
By further building this group, we will to develop a comprehensive network that will give people the opportunity to stay informed and connected. We hope the Roots Leaders group will become a forum where people can discuss issues, build activism and support for local political movements in Colorado.
Thanks
Jenn

Friend --With health care negotiations moving quickly, the news out of Capitol Hill can be confusing. But one thing is clear: special interest lobbyists will stop at nothing to block reform.Every day, opponents of reform spend millions of dollars to spin the facts, distort the issues, and attack good plans. But here's how we fight back: thousands of calls from the folks your representatives trust most on health care -- small business owners like you.Thousands of small business owners are calling for reform today -- will you pick up the phone and join them?According to our records, you live in Colorado's 7th congressional district. Please call:Rep. Ed Perlmutter at 202-225-2645.Sen. Mark Udall at 202-224-5941.Sen. Michael Bennet at 202-224-5852.(Not your representatives? Click here to look yours up.)Your calls will be a powerful reminder to your representatives that businesses and families back home are depending on them to fix health care in 2009. And as a small business owner, your voice has added weight with elected officials. Each call will only take a minute or two. Just tell the staff person who answers who you are, where you're from, what you do for a living, and that you support real health care reform that cuts costs, ensures access for all Americans, and guarantees choice of plans -- including a strong public insurance plan. There are mere weeks left before Congress leaves Washington and heads back to their states and districts. Make sure they pass health care reform first -- please, pick up the phone today:http://my.barackobama.com/sbocallThank you for your commitment to making change a reality,AddisuAddisu DemissiePolitical DirectorOrganizing for America

Thanks to your support we continue to make progress. There are a few events coming up this week that lend themselves well to signature gathering. The Banks in Harmony Concert on Thursday July 16 takes place at Utah Park on S. Peoria St. at E. Mexico Ave. The band starts playing at 6:30 but people start gathering around 5:30 or 5:45. Duane and I have been at the concerts that have taken place so far and have done very well. We stop as soon as the band is introduced. Stay for the pop rock music of the Wendy Woo Band.Neither Duane or I can be there to collect signatures this week. Actually, I will be unavailable to do work on the campaign until July 20.The other event is KidSpree on Sat and Sun July 18 and 19 at Bicentennial Park at E. Alameda Ave. and S. Potomac St. from 10 am to 5 pm. There is a free shuttle bus that runs frequently from the southwest parking lot of the Town Center of Aurora (Aurora Mall). Park free in the parking lot near S. Abilene St. north of E. Exposition Ave. We are permitted to collect signatures inside the event area as long as we keep moving and don't have a booth. If you can attend any of these events, please coordinate with Duane Senn at dasenn@qwest.net or 303-364-7368.It is important at these events that you start off asking the person if they live in Aurora and then if they are registered to vote. Please make sure they complete their signature block. It should look something likeJohn Q. Public 1122 E. Main St. #203-B Arap. 7/13/09John Q. After meeting with dozens of people here in North East Denver and Adams County, and hearing their stories of struggle and passion for Health Care Reform; there is no doubt that we need to keep working. These next few weeks are critical to add pressure to Sen. Bennett, and Udall, as well as our other representatives. Calling, and writing our support for President Obama's three core principles (including the public option) as well as sharing our stories of a broken Health Care system are essential in our fight against special interest groups and the status quo. Real stories from real people hit Political figures harder than you might imagine. When this reform is passed it is only the first step on our journey to providing people who live in America with the treatment they deserve.
Contrary to what some believe, this isn't just about insuring the 47 million Americans who are not covered right now. It is also about reforming incentives to reward quality over quantity, to reduce wasteful spending, to update our records system in order to keep track of our medical history, and to reduce the greed involved with health care insurance (these are only to name a few). People's health and lives are not a thing to be made profit off of, and we need to send that message to our neighbors by phone calls and door knocks.
Please join me in our continuing fight, we need your help NOW!
Call me to get involved: (209) 598-2254
After 3 weeks of the development impact fee petition drive we have 43 completed petitions with 70 more out in the field. With 25 signatures per petition that is 1075 signatures turned in with 1750 pending for a total of 2825 potential signatures. That potentially puts us past the half way mark with a little less than a month to go.We know that not all the signatures are going to be valid, so we have a lot of work to do in the next few weeks. Please let me know how each of you is doing with your petitions, if you have any questions, or if you need more petitions. A few of you have recruited other volunteers which is great. We need a small army to get this accomplished. Here's a meeting that you might be interested in attending this week.Thursday July 16, 2009, 7:00 - 8:30 PMCommunity College of Aurora, Student Centre Rotunda16000 E.
