It's about freakin' time.
Can you say de ja vue?
I (unfortunately) am not old enough to have experienced first hand the inspirational call to action by a couple of the greatest leaders of our time. Doesn't our candidate resonate with some of the same calm, inspirational (even lyrical) tone once delivered by Kennedy and MLK Jr.? How comforting it is to know that finally our generation gets to experience what our parents did and (probably) took for granted. Let's hope so.

GO VIRAL!!! MY BO Web Admin's:

I am so proud of being a part of this movement! From the very beginning we have all found each other and accomplished great things in our communities!

I have one simple request for another viral movement. There is a new website that is about to be launched, and because through this site, we have made so many fantastic connections, we should ask the web administrators to transfer our friends and settings into the new change.org site they have created. If you would please use the letter below to post as a blog, or send a message to the campaign staff immediately so we can make it a possibility for future involvement!

"I was thinking & hoping just last evening that maybe all our MYBO info and contact could be migrated automatically to http://www.change.gov to avoid chaos and so that everyone can maintain their favorite personal connections. It can be done. Let's ALL ask the BO webmasters to make it so."

Scholastic Vote Results are IN!

57% OBAMA

39% McCain

It's official. At least for the kids! The Scholastic Presidential Election Poll results are in: Democratic nominee Senator Barack Obama won with 57 percent of the vote, to 39 percent for Republican nominee Senator John McCain.

The poll was open to kids from grades 1 to 12 in Scholastic News and Junior Scholastic magazines. Almost 250,000 (a quarter of a million) kids voted by paper ballot or online at www.scholastic.com/news. The poll closed on October 10.

Since 1940, the results of the student vote have mirrored the outcome of the general election all but twice: In 1948, kids voted for Thomas E. Dewey over Harry S. Truman. In 1960, more students voted for Richard M. Nixon than for John F. Kennedy. In 2000, a majority of student voters chose George W. Bush, mirroring the Electoral College result, but not the result of the popular vote.

Obama and McCain weren't the only vote getters. Four percent of the students voted for other people like comedian Stephen Colbert, and entertainers Miley Cyrus, and the Jonas Brothers. It was the highest percent of write-in votes in the history of the poll. Some even voted for themselves. Most of the write-in votes —11 percent of the 4 percent—were for Senator Hillary Clinton.

Write the emails...get this guy fired!!

Take action after you read this:

Jeff Frederick, the Republican Party, and the McCain campaign cannot be allowed a pass on smears such as this against Barack Obama. Obama supporters and other concerned parties are encouraged to contact the GOP and the McCain campaign, demand an apology from both, and demand Frederick's resignation:

McCain national campaign: info@johnmccain.com

McCain Virginia campaign virginia@johnmccain.com

Republican National Committee (Mike Duncan, Chair): chairman@gop.com

Virginia Republican Party: info@rpv.org

::::::::

The Republican national campaign reached a new low over the weekend when chairman Jeffrey M. Frederick of the Virginia Republican Party (pictured here) compared Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama to terrorist leader Osama bin Laden. Clumsily associating Obama with 60s militant William Ayers - a man with whom Obama was loosely acquainted within the context of legitimate charity work in Chicago - Frederick told McCain volunteers in Virginia that Obama and bin Laden "both have friends that bombed the Pentagon," concluding that this means Obama is "scary." These remarks were understood as talking points for the volunteers to convey to the voters of Virginia.

Democrats are understandably outraged by Frederick's comments, saying that this is only the latest in a series of inflammatory statements made by Republicans against Obama in the crucial battleground state of Virginia. First reported Oct. 12 in Time, Frederick's remarks are discussed further in the same date's Washington Post. Frederick stood by his statements when questioned later, and John McCain has declined to condemn or comment on Frederick's remarks. Meanwhile, even Republicans have conceded that smears like Frederick's against Obama are a loser's game.

Frederick's comparison of Obama with bin Laden is obviously not only inflammatory but ridiculous: Bin Laden was directly responsible for the 9/11 attacks on the Pentagon and the World Trade Center which killed thousands of people. Ayres was a member of a group that carried out a 1972 bombing at the Pentagon in which no one was hurt or killed, and with which then ten-year-old Barack Obama was in no way associated. Ayres is now is now a professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and once served on a charity board of which Obama was also a member. Obama has condemned Ayers's actions in the 1960s and 1970s, and describes him as "a guy who lives my neighborhood."

Frederick's remarks are the latest in a series of inflammatory statements by Republicans campaigning in Virginia. Recently, the head of the McCain campaign in Buchanan County, Virginia, was forced to resign after he published a column in a local newspaper including openly racist comments about Obama and African Americans as well as disparaging statements about immigrants and gay people. Recently also, John McCain's brother Joe described suburban Alexandria and Arlington County in Northern Virginia as "communist country."

These Guys are too much...an amusing email battle between me and a Repug

RePug: Obama campaign slanders serious journalists who are trying to find out what the hell happened within Chicago Annenberg Foundation (Kurtz) or write a well-researched book on Obama (Freddoso). Obama campaign uses fascist intimidation tactics against the radio show that hosts these two brave scholars. Obama brown shirted thugs parrot the party line but cannot explain what they are saying.

You are correct: the fight is on. On the one side are civilized people who cherish the First Amendment and on the other are partisan thugs, like the Nazi brown shirts and Bolshevik commissars, who will do anything to win.

Shame on them and shame on you!

Obamamaniac:
.ExternalClass .EC_.ExternalClass .EC_EC_.hmmessage P {padding:0px;} .ExternalClass .EC_.ExternalClass body.EC_EC_hmmessage {font-size:10pt;font-family:Tahoma;} When you have right winged media who's sole purpose is to destroy and make up lies about a Presidential Candidate, it's GAME ON! I hope we inundate whoever's radio show/tv call in show/email/etc...with the truth about these lies that you guys spew.

Rush Limbaugh actively campaigned during the Democratic Primaries for card carrying Repubichairs to vote for Hillary to THROW THE RESULTS.

Obama is back up....did you see that? I guess it's because people are paying attention to the top of the ticket again. The past weeks episodes of Wag the Dog were so poorly produced by the Repugs, the voters just couldn't bring themselves to buying into the bullshit anymore I guess.

Didn't MCCronie lobby HARD for DEREGULATION?? Yup yup. Suffice it to say this market melt down is HIS FAULT! Glad I'm not a rich person...ooops, they probably aren't very rich anymore are they? NICE JOB MCFICKLE
It's all about the RATINGS!! Wag the Dog comes to mind...

This election is a slam dunk, but that is bad for ratings.
Manufacturers Unite

Why do they insist on the US producing more oil when the entire world benefits from our production?

Money honey.

Why wouldn't we pursue independence from foreign oil and the production and export of alternative energy?

It makes sense. It could produce more jobs here locally!

Imagine auto workers who have experience to mechanics and line work. It would be much easier to train people who have recent manufacturing experience than to wait until we HAVE to create those jobs!!

Put em to work.

Turn the closed down automobile factories into solar panel or wind manufacturing factories! Even better, how about fuel cell technology? If we could convert our exisitng automobiles with hydro fuel cells those plants and products would be in overwhelming demand!!

Is it as obvious to you as it is to me????? I'm not a politician, engineer or expert. I am a faux finisher and a small business owner.

National infrastructure projects...it's a no brainer.

This is not a game, John McSame!

It is the responsibility for a candidate for the highest office to answer questions (especially controversial ones) to the voting public. That being said, we have had Obama and others involved in these controversies answer the questions. Because certain people didn't have the fairy tale ending that they were hoping for as a result, they are still manufacturing rumours and lies about these issues.

Sarah Palin has not directly answered these allegations to the public, as Barack had to (in some cases the day after they were made and via press conferences). Until she does, she is directly responsible for the rumour mills. She needs to take a stand and tell us who she is with proof of what she has done. You may know her, but 80% of everybody else does not. She is being vetted in the last 60 days of the most important election of my lifetime, which millions of Americans believe is opportunistic and irresponsible on McCain's behalf.

John Mc Cain would rather win an election on the coattails of an unknown because reality is, he presented his vision for America, and American's didn't like it so much. He is living vicariously through the distraction of a Sarah Palin, but is it responsible for him to do so? We think not. Spin as you may, our own unknown has been vetted in Prime Time and passed with historical proportions.

God Bless Barack Obama!!

I have several Republican friends that are thoroughly disgusted and embarrassed by the Palin controversies. They all see the emptiness in the eyes of their Party leaders desperately "selling" Plain to the world.

They have all told me they were going to vote for Obama now.

They say that Obama's family seemed to be the most "normal" and represent family values "more appropriately". These are people who gave me hell for two years and now thanks to Karl Rove and Cheney, they delivered the final embarrassing blow!!

We welcome you to our party!

Imagine...the horror

Can you even IMAGINE what Karl Rove or Rush Limbaugh or even Keith Olberman would say about a complete NOBODY with the equivalent of a Kucinich platform being Obama's Veep???

Palin is an extremist, and not very bright. She doesn't even know what exactly the Vice President even does for a living. She doesn't care about the Iraq War and foreign policy. The American people don't even know her and the Republican's don't even care.

Her appointment was a pat on the back (in good ol boy fashion) to reward the eventual driliing in Anwar.

The mother hopped on a plane at FULL TERM (which is prohibited by any decent OBGYN's and airlines) to deliver a speech on drilling in Alaska. Good ol Gov. Rick Perry even asked her if she was going into labor *because she had to leave early. The FACT is, she had to go back to actually DELIVER her Down's Syndrome baby that very night. What a tool. I question her judgment. I question her motives.

I could care less about Alaska oil drilling and singling it out as a priority.

I can think of several other hundreds of thousand military people I care more about at this point and time. Give me a break. (President Clinton are you listening? This is the real "Give me a break" moment)!!!

What is so wrong with wanting to help the middle class? What is so wrong with wanting to end the war in Iraq and go after Bin Laden? What is so wrong with wanting to pursue alternative energy?

Bleeding heart forever.

WHO? Do they really think Hillary Supporters are stupid?

Obama Campaign Reactions: Inexperience A “Heartbeat Away”
29 Aug 2008 11:58 am
From Obama spokesman Bill Burton:
“Today, John McCain put the former mayor of a town of 9,000 with zero foreign policy experience a heartbeat away from the presidency. Governor Palin shares John McCain’s commitment to overturning Roe v. Wade, the agenda of Big Oil and continuing George Bush’s failed economic policies — that’s not the change we need, it’s just more of the same,” said Bill Burton, Obama Campaign Spokesman.
FACT:
Governor Palin fought for large increases in taxes on the oil companies, and rebated the money to the people of Alaska! Does that sound like a “friend” of big oil, or Bush’s economic policies?
More Obama Camp Reactions:

Ohio Democratic Party Executive Director Doug Kelly said that by putting the “former mayor of a town of 9,000 just a heartbeat away from the presidency,” McCain has undercut his entire campaign argument that experience matters. “Today’s announcement was an act of political desperation by the McCain campaign, but it does not alter the fact that the Republican ticket promises Ohioans more of the same,” Kelly said.

Palin: You’re no Hillary Clinton “None of my pro-Hillary female friends are falling for this obvious GOP pander. To the contrary, McCain’s selection of Sarah Palin as his VP is drawing hoots of derision. One female friend did some quick internet research and said, “Sarah Palin has a great deal of surface appeal, at first. But once America’s women look behind that cheerleader smile and see at her extreme social agenda, they will run the other direction.”Then she added, with a laugh, “The only thing he is going to let her do in the White House is teach him how to use the internet.”Another said, “It just seems desperate and calculated.”She added, “Palin makes McCain look ancient, out-of-touch and totally yesterday. McCain makes her look like a perky kid. Each one dramatically and perfectly underscores the other’s weakness. At least, nobody can criticize Obama’s alleged youth and inexperience now. But this is not the best team America could produce, by any stretch.”John McCain has gone from maverick to “me too” — trying to out-Democrat the Democrats and pick up some Hillary voters. But it ain’t working.

I’m Just Sayin’: Choice of Sarah Palin is an Insult to Women Voters

John McCain’s choice of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as a running mate is a searing insult to women.

Clearly, Palin was chosen in hopes of attracting women voters. There is virtually no other explanation for picking a right-wing leader of a state with a population of fewer than 680,000 people.

The decision argues that McCain has such a low opinion of women voters that they would overlook education, abortion, foreign policy, civil rights, health care, family leave and more simply to vote for a candidate with two x chromosomes.

As Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida said: “I know Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin is no Hillary Clinton.”

Obama Camp Plays Good Cop/Bad Cop

More than an hour prior to laudatory statements, Obama spokesman Bill Burton implied the little known 44-year-old governor with less than two years in office was not qualified to be president and tied her to the Bush/McCain brand of politics.

Palin’s Age, Inexperience May Be Worse than Obama’s
townhall.com — If Obama is an empty suit, as McCain has suggested, is Palin suited for the Oval Office herself? She is younger and less experienced than the first-term Illinois senator… A governor for just 20 months, she was two-term mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, a town of 6,500 where the biggest civic worry is whether there will be enough snow for the Iditarod.

My Genius Fundraising Idea was DELETED

Oh Well, not surprising. Today I got a notification from Obama for America that I could not host a Fundraiser for Barack online.

Weird, never happened to me before when I raised cash for the campaign in this manner...

Perhaps it was a little disrepectful to John Edwards and his idiotic strategy of killing an Obama win in Novemeber, but I thought it was the right thing to do. So I posted a John Edwards Compenstation Fundraiser for Obama to collect as much money as we can to compensate for the new ads he will have to make to counter any bad press from the John Edwards scandal.

It was up for 3 days...

Censorship is bad.

Guilt by association??? Let's just keep given the evil Republican's more ammo!!!

Why does it seem so many Democrats holding office (and running for them) is sexing it up with someone else? That really helps with the morality issues related to the Democratic Party!

I believed in you. I have always supported Barack, but you were a close second. Now I feel like I need to take a shower....eeeew.

Point and Counter Point part 1

Thank you to some of you who are wondering where my blogs went.

I am happy to announce that I am creating a series of posts that are comprised of conversations with me and my Neo Con father. Maybe you will find them as amusing as I do.

It's a great opportunity to see how the other half think, and more importantly, how their propaganda is being circulated.

Sorry Dad, I am DRUNK on the Kool Aid, and have no plans of sobering up!!

His POINT:

McCain Not First to Compare Obama to Paris Hilton
By Seton Motley
August 4, 2008 - 14:30 ET
NewsBusters.org | Media Research Center
Care to Revise and Extend Your Remarks, Sen. Obama
The uproar of the media, serving as adjunct PR firms in defense of their beloved Sen. Barack Obama in response to Sen. John McCain's video comparing the Illinois Senator to Paris Hilton, was deafening. The ad was described as "nasty", "childish" and "juvenile", a "strange" "nuclear attack" for having dared to compare their anointed one to the brainless celebutant hotel heiress.
Sen. McCain and his camp responded that it was all in good fun, and was made only to point out the ridiculous Tiger Beat-squealing teenage girl nature of the over-the-top, all-encompassing coverage thus far afforded Obama by his Paparazzi.
But it appears that someone years ago beat Sen. McCain to the comparison punch.
Would all of this overwrought press hysteria be rendered even sillier were it to turn out that Sen. McCain was in actuality quoting Sen. Obama? Methinks that it would.
A February 24, 2005, Washington Post article begins:

There's nothing exotic or complicated about how phenoms are made in Washington, and, more to the point, how they are broken.
"Andy Warhol said we all get our 15 minutes of fame," says Barack Obama. "I've already had an hour and a half. I mean, I'm so overexposed, I'm making Paris Hilton look like a recluse."

That is pretty much the who and the why of Sen. McCain's explanation of his ad, is it not? It turns out he wasn't mocking Sen. Obama so much as channeling him. Or making a mini-documentary out of the Post's article.
Either way, it is just another example of the elite media not liking a Leftist's own words being used against him in the court of public opinion.
Update: Time magazine had the quote as well.

My COUNTER POINT:

Dad: All I can ask McCain's desperate campaign guru's is "Where's the beef?" If that's all they've got, this country is in deep shit.

Thank You Tim Russert

I can't imagine waking up this Sunday morning and not having my typical marathon political talk show ritual in which I sit in bed sipping my coffee, eating my toast and watching you kick ass on Meet the Press.

You helped find the truth in a sea of lies and deception from the other networks. You told it to us straight, you exposed the frauds, introduced us to a fresh new perspective and you always had a big smile to send us off for the day.

You were way too young, I thought for sure that I would be watching you for the next 20 years. I can't imagine anyone who could take your place.

You were the best of the best and I thank you for my Sunday mornings.

Interested Anyone?

Impeachment Main article: Impeachment in the United States
To impeach the President of the United States, a majority of the United States House of Representatives must agree to pass a resolution that alleges the President committed "treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors." This impeachment resolution is also commonly called an "Article of Impeachment" and spells out in detail the charges against the President. The House of Representatives then exhibits these Articles of Impeachment to the United States Senate since the latter body has the "sole Power" to "try all impeachments."

If the U.S. Senate, by two-thirds vote, finds the President "guilty" on any Article of Impeachment, then the President is removed from office and the Senate next votes on whether or not to disqualify the ex-President from holding further office under the United States. Although already tried by the Senate, the ex-President is still liable to indictment and trial under regular criminal statutes for any federal crimes he may have committed. If the U.S. Senate fails to reach a two-thirds majority for conviction, the President is acquitted and the trial is over.

In the House, the Judiciary Committee is the typical committee to where impeachment resolutions are referred. The Judiciary Committee has formally reported to the full House of Representatives impeachment resolutions against four Presidents: President John Tyler, President Andrew Johnson, President Richard Nixon, and President Bill Clinton. Of those four Presidents, only Johnson and Clinton were impeached by the House. Both were acquitted by the Senate. Nixon resigned after the Judiciary Committee recommended impeachment but before the full House considered the report. (Nixon resigned apparently after being told that his impeachment and conviction were near certainties by Arizona Senator Barry Goldwater, a conservative Senator who ran for President in 1964.)

The President's pardon power does not extend to "Cases of Impeachment", as explicitly stated in Article Two of the United States Constitution. Thus a President may not intervene in either the House impeachment or the Senate trial. Dispute exists about whether the Impeachment exception to the pardon power extends to cases brought in the regular court system after Senate conviction.

[edit] Rationales for impeachment
Proponents of impeaching Bush assert that one or more of his actions qualify as "high crimes and misdemeanors" under which the president can constitutionally be impeached.[1][2]

This section collates a list of pro-impeachment advocates' rationales as suggested by commentators, legal analysts, members of the Democratic Party, the Center for Constitutional Rights[3] and others. However, since impeachment is inherently political, and not a legal process, there is no exact definition of what constitutes an impeachable offense. Therefore, this list is not necessarily accurate. Simply stated, it is up to Congress to determine if something rises to the level of "high crimes and misdemeanors."

[edit] NSA warrantless surveillance controversy Further information: NSA warrantless surveillance controversy, Rule of law, and Separation of powers
In the context of the "war on terrorism", Bush ordered the wiretapping of certain international calls to and from the U.S. without a warrant. The program's critics contend that it violates the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), which was adopted to remedy similar actions in the past (e.g. Operation Shamrock, Operation Minaret, Church Committee). They also allege that it violates the Fourth Amendment of the Constitution,[4] which prohibits unlawful searches and seizures of US citizens, including electronic surveillance. These allegations have been advanced by articles published in The Christian Science Monitor and The Nation.[5] In its defense, the administration has asserted that FISA does not apply as the President was authorized by the Authorization for the Use of Military Force (AUMF) and the presidential powers as Commander-in-Chief inherent in the Constitution, to bypass FISA.[6] In Hamdan v. Rumsfeld, the Supreme Court majority held that neither the AUMF nor the president's role as Commander-in-Chief trumps explicit federal law, in this case the Uniform Code of Military Justice.

In January 2006, the Congressional Research Service released two legal analyses concluding that:

...no court has held squarely that the Constitution disables the Congress from endeavoring to set limits on that power. To the contrary, the Supreme Court has stated that Congress does indeed have power to regulate domestic surveillance... the NSA surveillance program... would appear to be inconsistent with the law.[7]

In addition, the American Bar Association, in February 13, 2006, issued a statement denouncing the warrantless domestic surveillance program, accusing Bush of exceeding his powers under the Constitution. Their analysis opines that the key arguments advanced by the Bush administration are not compatible with the law.[8] David Kris and five former FISC judges, one of whom resigned in protest, have also voiced their doubts as to the legality of a program bypassing FISA.[9][10]

Aside from these organisations, others (see below) have stated that the Bush administration's justification of the program, using its interpretation of presidential power, overthrows the Constitutional system of checks and balances and ignores other provisions of the Constitution mandating that the President "shall take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed" and vesting Congress with the sole authority "To make Rules for the Government and Regulation of the land and naval Forces" and "To make all Laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into Execution the foregoing Powers, and all other Powers vested by this Constitution in the Government of the United States, or in any Department or Officer thereof." The Senate Committee voted along party lines, and decided a detailed investigation into the matter was unwarranted.[11]

Former House member Elizabeth Holtzman (who played a key role in House impeachment proceedings against Nixon), John Dean (Nixon's former counsel) and Jennifer van Bergen from FindLaw assert that by authorizing warrantless domestic wiretapping, President Bush violated the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act without legal basis, constituting a felony and as such an impeachable offense.[12][13][14]

On August 17, 2006, the case, ACLU v. NSA, in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan ruled that the Bush administration’s program to monitor the phone calls and e-mails of Americans without warrants was unconstitutional and must be stopped.[15] It was the first ruling by a federal court to strike down the National Security Agency surveillance program. In her ruling, Judge Anna Diggs Taylor dismissed the government’s argument that the president "has been granted the inherent power to violate not only the laws of the Congress but the First and Fourth Amendments of the Constitution, itself." In the conclusion of the ruling, Justice Warren was quoted from the case U.S. v. Robel, 389 U.S. 258 (1967) where he wrote:

Implicit in the term ‘national defense’ is the notion of defending those values and ideas which set this Nation apart...It would indeed be ironic if, in the name of national defense, we would sanction the subversion of...those liberties...which makes the defense of the Nation worthwhile. However, they were not totally informed, nor were they allowed to take notes or confer with others to assess the possible ramifications of this program.[19]

Thank you John

I just donated $25 bucks to the campaign, and Barack is asking us to write John Edwards a few words. This is what I wrote:

Mr. Edwards,

Words cannot describe how much your endorsement means to us, (even though you think you are no big deal).

You are right you are a HUGE DEAL!!!

Just when I thought I was crazy and totally confused by Hillary Clinton's logic in her winning this thing, you helped set the record straight, and I truly believe you extinguished the potential for a nasty race war within a race war.

Thank you for your endorsement and your belief in a better America!

Stephanie Fitzharris
Austin, TX

Question

Does anyone know if you are a paid staffer for the Obama Campaign, are you allowed to run for National Delegate in Texas (or anywhere else)?

I'm thinking it's ok for everyone, but wanted to make sure.

North Carolina was Eye Opening!

Well I have to tell yall that my announcement last week to my family that we were going to take our family vacation early this year AND we were going to help out in the North Carolina election went a couple of different ways!!

I saw this as the perfect opportunity to educate myself and my 17 & 5 year old with what the rest of the southern half of the country was thinking!

We took off on the ultimate road trip, our goal the Western region of North Carolina. To my dismay, I found the deep south to be very polarized, more so from the white conservatives than the black working poor and middle incomers. We found ourselves deep in the heart of the Bible Belt, and contrary to the Neo-Con's belief that a liberal doesn't believe in God, I did not spontanouesly combust! Thank GOD!!

What I did find was whites (mostly) did not take the time, or even care to investigate what our candidates policies and positions are. They could only recite sound bites from cable news, and campaign slogans. It was very telling to have conversations with them, and to my surprise, they are aching for a reason to vote for Obama.

I had several conversations (some heated) with people who couldn't see past his color, but at the same time they want to believe in his message. They are desperate for the changes that are needed in government, they seem to also be equally impressed that a middle aged white woman supports someone other than a white male politician and a white woman politician. It seems archaic to me, but it seems to be the reality out there.

I took for granted the right to be a liberal in Austin and the openess of actually discussing our differences with our conservative friends in a civil manner. What I didn't expect was the innate fear that has been bred into us across the country because of what happened on 911, and the war mantra that really becomes a mind set that the muslims are out to kill the Christians. It's very prevalent in the south, and fear is the dominating emotion out there.

Barack Obama has an opportunity to heal the fear, replace it with Hope and start an amazingly overdue reconciliation between the have and the have nots, the whites and the blacks, and the religious differences in this country.

My experience in the deep south was to be somewhat threatening, as there was virtually no visibility with bumper stickers and yard signs. There were severeal instances where people in Asheville who supported Obama had bumper stickers and had sugar put in their gas tanks! But still, people were desperate for a diferent political message. I talked to everyone I could find asking them how they felt, and who they were going to vote for. They all were surprised that I was so informal and eager to talk openly about it, but when we engaged in the discussion, we seemed to talk forever. It further proves to me that intimate, one on one grass roots efforts DO pay off. I know I reached out to at least 10 people who were going the other way :) Every vote counts!!

It's real people reaching out from coast to coast to ensure that this country changes for the better and that all of us really do care about their state, their children and their vote.

I loved my short lived journey across the country and have come home with extreme hope that the people "get it" . I now know how much my phone call to another city really means in the grand scope of this campaign, and encourage everyone reading this to do all you can to spread the word. This country is worth it, and this campaign depends on all of us to reach out.

We have to start mentoring groups in these states more and more. They need our support, they need to know how to create events that will build relationships and more importanty help the people get to know our candidate better. Barack's advertising was refreshing and reassuring. He took out 60 second spots, as well as 2 minute ones. That helped alot! You really had a sense of who he was, who his family was, etc.. The advertising effort is spot on, and we should all be proud os the uplifting messages that he sends.

I hope you all will stick around, as the fight will go on through November and he'll need all of us to prevail!

Stephanie Fitzharris

Austin TX

Paying Respect

What happened today was a stunning display in LEADERSHIP by Barack Obama. This is incredibly healthy to all of his supporters and adversaries alike.

When you divorce someone you had a relationship with for so long, there is a period of grief and reconciliation with your family (and extended family in all of us). We all are greiving for him and his family, we owe him the respect of PAYING our respects on this blog.

He needs to hear and read our support, and above all of that, we admire him.

Nothing wrong with that.

My Letter to DNC

DNC,

I am terribly disturbed by Dean's INACTION and somewhat limp-ish round table discussions this past weekend on the Sunday morning circuit. There is no way that Hillary will win, and we need a Democratic leader to step up and assume the role of Chairman at this stage of the game. We will lose November if the will of the people don't win in this election due to prejudices. I would be saying the very same thing if Hillary were in the lead in delegates and votes.

I have worked extremely hard in this campaign. I got involved for the first time as a Democrat in the election process here in Texas. I campaigned, registered new voters, took training classes on our complicated voting system, voted early, caucused later and became my precinct's delegate chair. I went to the county elections and ran our caucus (while the Hillary delegates were trying to fix the results by throwing our caucus into a frenzy). They don't play by the rules, they cheat and steal their way for a win, rather than educating Democrats on the Democratic Process!!! I am proud to announce that in my little precinct, we now have 60 new and dedicated Democrats who are all involved in national and local elections (before Obama there were TWO). The Hillary folks are NOT involved. They do nothing around here but wait for their next directive by the Hillary camp. Fair weathered Democrats with absolutely no back bone and integrity. It is true what they say about her core demographic, but when it comes to Obama, he connects with ALL Democrats and not just a few.

I will not vote for Hillary Clinton if she becomes the nominee if appointed by the Stupid-Delegates, because it would be a significant blow to my intelligence and due diligence.

I will write in Barack Obama, as well as the hundreds of thousand supporters. Please ask Mr. Dean to step up and act like a leader. Barack Obama had to do (quite possibly) the hardest thing he has ever had to do with his Pastor today. It was painful, uncomfortable and probably shook him to his core. Talk about JUDAS!! But he did what his conscience commanded, the RIGHT THING. No matter how it looked, no matter how it sounded, it hurt him deeply, but it was the right thing to do for HIMSELF. Mr. Dean and the whole Democratic Party needs to step up and support a man of such integrity.

Please give it some thought. Make the tough decisions that a true leader SHOULD do.

Thank you for your consideration,

Stephanie Fitzharris

Indifferent about Rev. Wright's Speeches

Yeah, I had mixed feelings about his speeches...

On one hand, I was relieved, excited to see the comparisons (and they actually made sense to me), and moreover, I thought that no matter what happens, the fact that Rev. Wright was able to have an international forum to bring the plight and misunderstandings of the black church's role in the black person's struggle in our society was unprecedented and was years over due!

I guess the last time this much attention had been paid to these issues, and on this scale was with Dr. King. Pretty exciting stuff, until I realized how utterly sheltered most white people are, to the extent of how we "worship", communicate with each other and general "protocol" of social interaction. We're a stiff bunch, really. We'll see how it goes down. But in the end, I think social equality overrules the Presidency. Unfortunately what Rev. Wright might be missing in his big picture is Barack's ability as President to help bridge the gap and slowly expose us white folk to the black culture in a more understanding way.

All I know is Barack Obama is in a tough spot today. Tomorrow the fervor will fade and we can get on with our issues at hand!!

Obama 08 YES WE CAN!!

Dear Sir,

Please stop Hillary for trying to steal this election. It is tearing our country apart. Please take a side and stick with it. Insist that the Super Delegates do the same.

How do I tell my children to play by the rules when our "rulers" can't even do it themselves?

This must end quickly before we destroy one of our most revered Democratic candidates. Barack Obama is our greatest HOPE yet. That in itself is exciting, and commands respect from the powers that be in our party.

Please understand there are tens of thousands who are willing to do anything for Barack Obama. We will follow him until the end, and carry on his vision in the years to come.

He's right and we all know it. He brings a sense of purpose and humanity to all of us...even Republicans.

Stop this.
CALLING ALL HEAVY WEIGHTS!

Now is the TIME, for all of you heavy-hitting political supporters of Barack to Stand up and be counted, let the world look upon you as a faithful unafraid believer that you really are and not how it looks to the pollsters. Don't leave him hanging out there to the Dogs on the left and the War Lords on the right! He's right, he's honest, he not an elitist, he's a realist!
You have to sit in amazement watching Fox News grasping at straw polls....scratching your head wondering silently to yourself "How does he do it? How does he say the most politically sensitive things and come out stronger, better, more popular?"
He speaks the truth. The truth is painful, ugly, clumsy and infuriating, but it's still the truth and the truth is what we seek. The truth is what we know, we experience, we cook for dinner, pump in our cars, heat up our homes, put in our guns, pray about.

Step it up, come out of the closet, support your man! Support US!!

Wow! What an amazing job you did today with Petraeus!

Just when I thought it couldn't get any better, you go and impress us (and every member of the press, etc..)!

I CAN"T WAIT for you to become President!

What a refreshing, grown up way of dealing with the Bush regime warriors!! I wonder if they have ever been asked the questions that you asked them?

You looked like a leader, you had a commanding tone, you acted in the interest of our country, and you were brilliant!

I don't know what news channels you guys were watching this weekend, but ever since our good old guy Bill Richarson came out, the news agencies are writing her obituary!!

It's about time!

The time is NOW...she will be defeated in bigger numbers than we can imagine! The media thinks they are smarter than the American people...playing puppet master!

We are here to prove them wrong folks!

It's about time and the time is now!!

This Good Friday Let Us Not Crucify Barack Obama

I found this amazing article...It's inspiring and sums up how so many of us are feeling. Thank you Frank Schaeffer, you are a wonderful writer.

Buzz up! Senator Obama has a problem: the hardening of the American heart, the closing of the American mind, the shriveling of our souls, the shrinking capacity of our imaginations, our jaded senses, the seen-it-all attitude that makes us into sneering voyeurs too mean spirited to save ourselves.

I was a guest on a PRI radio show the day after Obama delivered is historic speech on race. I was a guest along with a person that the host introduced as "most responsible" for making Obama's minister's charged comments into a political football. According to the host's introduction, Republican activist Ronald Kessler used his website to turn Obama's minister's words into the story the media jumped on. Kessler had just heard Obama's March 18 speech on race too. He said it left him unmoved. He was in a sneering mood bristling with ever-so-reasonable middle class certitude of his conservative righteousness. To Kessler the speech was just politics, nothing more. The idea of it's truth was of no consequence. To him it was all about tactics.

That night I was listening to Laura Ingraham (a show that I was on several times and where Laura repeatedly called me a "great American" because, as the father of a Marine, I'd written Keeping Faith and then Faith of Our Sons, books that praised and explained the military family.) Laura was sneering at Obama's speech. Her candidate had been Mitt Romney. As Romney's self-described "conservative-conservative" Ingraham had also been routinely mocking McCain. And she hates Clinton. Now she hates Obama more...

Bitterness as a way of life marches forward on the left as well as the right. I read the responses from Clinton supporters (on various websites) also damning Obama's speech as "just words". Some of the Clinton people sounded even more cynical than Kessler and Ingraham.

Obama is the chef who opens a new restaurant and serves honest good and beautifully prepared food made of the most wholesome ingredients only to have the food critic pan his offerings as "all too ordinary". "Where?", asks the seen-it-all jaded bored critic, "are the calf's brains marinated in truffle-soaked baby duck's testicles?"

Obama offers civility in the midst of a drunken national bar fight. Obama speaks in complete sentences, well-turned paragraphs, offers thoughts with intellectual depth, nuance, humility and compassion. Obama is a reasoned essay cast before sound-bite swine who seem ready to tear anything that falls into their sty to shreds. By providence or blind luck, we are being given a second chance.

In Obama our founders appear once again stepping from the mists of time to offer a wayward great, great grandchild an opportunity for redemption. But everything is turned on its head. Good is called bad. The greatest things about Obama are used against him, decency and transparency are mocked. Obama stands in the tradition of our founders, a citizen running for office, not a "professional" striver. But the cry goes up, "He doesn't have the experience!"

Experience? At what? Playing games with our country's soul while the only real game in our nation's capitol is hanging on to power, enriching oneself at the political trough through connections, taking us to war after war, making us hated throughout the world by catering to our insatiable, unreasoning fears. Obama is the man who reaches out to help a dying passerby and the passerby snarls, "What do you really want?"

Obama came to us on March, 18 with one of the most generous and brilliant speeches that has been delivered on American soil. He spoke honestly of things all other American leaders have been too timid and self-serving to even mention. Standing behind him were the sprits of countless murdered, enslaved, tortured, lost black Americans. Their blood cries out for revenge and yet Obama offered forgiveness, perspective and understanding.

Obama is not Jesus. Obama makes mistakes. He is rightly self-deprecating. Nevertheless, imperfect as he is, Obama is offering America a fresh start. There is more decent intelligent authenticity in his little finger than the Clintons will ever know. There is more kind wisdom in Obama than in all our sneering bloodsucking moronic media combined. But we have imbibed detritus for so long that when clean food is offered we can't taste it. This isn't about politics. I'm a fifty-five year old white man who has been a conservative all my life. I've been a right wing Republican activist. I'm a big fan of the military. If Obama can reach out to me he can reach out to anyone. He can win in November.

What I'm saying here will lose me friends. For instance the Bush family gave one of my recent military-related books a ringing endorsement. After Laura Bush read an excerpt out on Meet The Press sales skyrocketed. I probably won't get too many more of those sorts of endorsements. But the chips are down and the presidential choices this year are too important not to not fight for.

As I see it our choice is between a good and heroic old man whose time has past and who will perpetuate failed policy, a jaded woman of the establishment, who will do anything to perpetuate her family's dynastic "claim" to power, and a brilliant, openhearted new founding father the likes of which America has not seen.

Obama comes to us from outside the system that has produced our present multiple crises of wars of choice and a failing economy. He does what all truly great leaders do: he speaks to the soul in plain self-revealing words of hope.

If we squander this undeserved reprieve and choose business-as-usual, if we don't elevate ourselves out of our self-made mire, we will step into a future of steep and steady decline and war without end. It won't matter if you are right or left. It won't matter if the Republicans or the Democratic Party wins. We will all lose.

I think there is reason to hope. There are decent people out there who have refused to go along with the smear-by-association campaign. Mike Huckabee defended Obama. McCain said we can't blame Obama for his minister's words. Not everyone on the right is stooping as low as the Clintons and the right-wing media scavengers.

Obama is worth fighting for. He is worth losing old friends for. History has thrown America an unlikely lifeline. Do we have the decency, the sense, the last glimmer of sanity needed to open our hearts to change?

We Should Take it to the STREETS!!

How much more of this Obama Bashing can we take?

Do we really believe a black man could hold the highest office on Earth? HELL YES!! They (as in Republicans and Hillary Dems) are STEALING this away from us. What are we doing? Sitting glued to our TV's in disbelief? Shaking our head with a deafeatist attitude, wondering if it really was possible.

I've got the HEADLINE for you all folks: WE HAVE THE POWER TO EFFECT CHANGE

Obama has infiltrated the hearts and minds of millions of people in this country, and because of who he is, what he stands for and his indeniable greatness, they are all out to blot him out. Anyway they can, as often and outrageous as they can. It's outrageous, and we can't stand for it.

Don't WE have the power, or are we going to allow this to happen to him? How could we as Americans sit idily by and watch the most powerful in America crucify OUR DREAM? Aren't we entitled to a smarter America? A more compassionate America? I think so.

We have a voice, we have legs, we MUST start showing up and being held accountable for our votes to elect him and our dedication and belief in him!

The time is NOW to start PROTESTING the unbelievable smearing of our candidate. We have the power to make some noise, make the media pay attention to US, the voters. We can't sit back and let the two party's make the choice through fear and manipulation for us!!

We need to STAND UP and make our own statements, as he does for all of us.

Barack has already won. WE have already won!! The smartest thing that Hillary and the whole Democratic contingency could have done today, would have been to endorse Barack Obama. One unprecedented gesture of unity could have had the most significant meaning of our entire humanity.

Sad, missed opportunity to heal. I love Barack Obama. He has done more for my personal growth than any human being could possibly preach.

How cool is it to go down in the history books with this man?

Barack is Beautiful!

His telling it like it REALLY is was so insightful, and risky that it speaks volumes of his motives and integrity.

This was one of our country's most important speeches on race relations of all time.

I admire his mind and judgment so much it makes me cry to think the critics could be so immune to what could prove to be the world's best chance for empathy and peace. The problem with all of this ideology is that people don't make money offering peace. People make money, SERIOUS money out of waging war, divisiveness.

I have never in my life have been so desperate for people to do the right thing. It's our chance for a very different world. Unfortunately, capitalism loses but the human spirit wins big time. I cry for my children, my black brothers and white sisters knowing that this was our ONE SHOT to get it right.

I grieve America's attempt to kill this notion of healing and integrity. We allow the media to sway our judgment, and yet we have become so complacent. WHY??? If Hillary Clinton weren't running for President, do you think she would completely embrace him? Hell YES. He's an amazing light in our society that commands attention. I still stick by my earlier statement that Hillary cannot deny genius. There is no competition in the race. Simply put, he represents who we SHOULD be as Americans, and McCain and Hillary represent who we ARE.

Clinton Legacy Link

The Clinton Legacy The Progressive Review This list was compiled at the end of the Clinton administration. It was last partially updated in 2000 Our Clinton Scandal Index
The Clintons, to adapt a line from Dr. Johnson, were not only corrupt, they were the cause of corruption in others. Yet seldom in America have so many come to excuse so much mendacity and malfeasance as during the Clinton years. Here are some of the facts that have been buried.

continued here: It's crazy stuff!!!

http://prorev.com/legacy.htm

Awakenings

The problem with Rush, Hillary and McCain (and anyone else who dare speak up out of fear) is they see their profitable, narcissistic future in utter jeopardy.

We were a more tolerant and caring nation before Bush 2. Again, the problem is that legacy of fear and selfishness is quickly coming to an end.

People will have to start acting civilly and caring again. Chuches will have to do more (like they used to) for the poor and needy. Businesses will have to employ more Americans and rebuild the (non-existant) "Middle Class" by hiring THEM. The Bush War will end, and the strugge for peace in the Middle Eat will have a chance again to succeed.

We will hear more fear based arguments, more reasons to dispell the hopeful reality that Barack has awakened in all of us.

Eye on the prize folks....can you see it? A more compassionate world, a leader we could be proud of, supporting a man of inspiration and action. This is historic, a leader for all time!

Poor them...or maybe they'll get that being a better person in this world will take the place of the almighty dollar.

Hope so...

Dumb and Dumberer?

Howdy Folks,

I couldn't help myself but to peruse the Official Hillary for Prez website...you know, to see if theirs is half as fabulous as ours.

To my dismay, I found a whole page dedicated to the use of the term "Whatever". I will post it below. After reading it, I quickly realized that she really appeals to a stupider segment of society.

Don't get me wrong, a vote is a vote, but if this is any indication of what is so attractive to those people, I'm not sure we want them on our side. No offence to stupid people, but how can you read this stuff and not be utterly insulted?
                           Whatever
2/21/2008 11:41:20 PM

The Obama campaign clearly went into panic mode when they heard the extraordinarily passionate and personal answer Senator Clinton gave at the end of the debate. Senator Clinton's response demonstrated why she’ll be the next President which is why the Obama campaign is now attacking her for using a common English phrase in that answer – “whatever happens, we’re going to be fine.”

Don’t think it’s common? Here are a few examples of just how widespread the phrase is:

Laura Bush: 'Whatever happens will be fine' [El Paso Times, 5/19/00]

NBA Star Shaquille O'Neal: ‘We'll be fine, no matter what happens.’ [AP, 10/8/03]

Actress Lindsay Lohan: ‘No matter what happens, we're going to be fine.’ [AP, 4/19/07]

Former Redskin Dexter Manley: 'Whatever happens, I'm going to be fine.' [Washington Post, 7/26/98]

Former Redskin Gus Frerotte: 'I look forward to whatever happens. We're going to be fine.' [Washington Times, 12/22/98]

Notre Dame football player Tom Zbikowski: 'Whatever happens, we're going to be fine back there.' [Notre Dame football player Tom Zbikowski, 4/22/07]

Angels GM Bill Stoneman: 'Whatever happens, I'm going to be fine.' [Los Angeles Times, 2/22/03]

Former Giant Christian Peter: 'And whatever happens, I'm going to be fine.' [Asbury Park Press, 1/29/01]

Chicago Cub Larry Rothschild: 'I'm not worried about that. Whatever happens, I'm going to be fine.' [St. Petersburg Times, 4/1/01]

Diamondback Edgar Gonzalez: 'Whatever happens, I’ll be fine because I’m in the big leagues.' [Edgar Gonzalez, Diamondbacks, 5/2/07]

Hockey player Richard Hamula: 'Whatever happens I'll be fine with but hopefully I can still stick around here.' [Richard Hamula, hockey player, 9/20/02]

Leonard Hamm, interim commissioner for the Baltimore City Police Department: ‘Whatever happens, I’m going to be fine.’ [Baltimore Afro-American, 11/19/04]

Empathy Needed

Anyone that's still undecided in Texas, please take the time to read:

Please check out Barack's stance on his policies! What I can suggest you do is keep reading...If you isolate each line item, then yes, I can understand the classic "liberal" arguments, however you need to read on.

He has serious solutions. Rational solutions, educated and inspirational solutions. When you get the will of the people to become more interested in taking care of humanity as a whole, you eliminate the self serving attitudes of today. It makes significant changes.

I don't know how old and rich you are, but I suspect you are complacent. When was the last time you ever did something for someone else out of the kindness of your heart? We need to care for others so they care for us too. Imagine that principle on a global level...

It's our obligation as an intelligent society to show diplomacy, compassion and most of all empathy.

All I can tell you is he's a very logical thinker, and has the ability to draw thousands of thousands of people like you and me to start asking questions.

I am hopeful, inspired but most of all thankful that he gave me my ability to dream again.

Sounds hoakie (I know). I'm guilty!

Words that are sure to Haunt

OK folks,

I have been a campaign junkie for over a year now, and due to the extreme overuse of certain words and phrases have now and forever gone down in my memory as the most unnerving of 2007-2008.

They inlcude (in order of annoyance):

"Look" (like nails on a chalk board).

Ok, look, you can't get through a single news commentary without the guest/expert of the moment starting out answering their first questions with THAT phrase...Drives me crazy!

"Envoke or Envoking"

"Ronald Regan"

"Political Pundits"

"Race Card"

"Underdog"

If you have a few you want to add to the list, feel free to comment!

I'm a Barack-o-Crat!

I have officially delared myself a Barack-O-Crat.

I was a Democrat (and technically I still am), however with the way this campaign season has gone, I have become way more stubborn in my thought that Barack Obama is the ONLY choice for President.

It doesn't matter if he's a Democrat, it wouldn't matter if he were Republican...well, maybe not a Republican. The bottom line is, I think he surpasses the lable of our party as being merely a Democrat. He doesn't play politics as usual, He has rational, logical and compassionate thought behind his policies and positions. He has energized and mobilized our nation, and a generation much to Hillary's abomination!

I feel something again and it's pleasant! It's not fear, or despair, it's hope. I have been embarassed of our country's policies and George Bush's imposition to the world for the past six years, now I am PROUD!

I'm proud that we as a nation have come together to support HOPE, the premis that the people CAN do something, that WE matter, and our kids MATTER! That we could actually come out in droves to support a black man, with a Muslim name? What does that say about racism in America? What does that say to the world? It says we do not agree with the Bush way. It proclaims we are a tolerant and enlightened nation.

I have taken Baracktasy, and I like it! Guess what, it's legal too!

GObama Texas March 4!!

The Time really IS NOW!!

I'm glad he's the front runner! It has taken the complacency out of Texas!!! Finally, everyone has realized that it's up to US! It's time to kick it into high gear and go go go!

I have a few recomendations for you who are desperate to "do something".

1) Stop talking about it, and start talking to your co-workers, email contacts, neighbors, congregation, your kids' friends.

2) Create your own web page on this site, then join 4 groups close to you. Start blogging and phone banking...donate money it doesn't have to be a lot.

3) Post an event in YOUR Neighborhood. Have a sign making party (like me). Invite them over for coffee at Starbucks, start a fund raiser online.

4) Put a bumper sticker on your car, and give them to your friends to put on theirs.

5) Show up at the rally's. (To coin a phrase): Come early, stay late and BE LOUD!

6) Find out who your Precinct Chairs are and ask them if they need volunteers

7) VOTE EARLY, caucus later (be on time as well)

Ok, it's a bit condensed, and you could do so much more, but this is a good starting list for those of you who could benefit from it.

We really need everyone who is passionate about Barack Obama defeating Hillary Clinton in the Democratic nomination to step it up BIG TIME.

We owe it to the states before us, and our children!!

Good Luck and let's get it on!! I'm READY, FIRED UP and FROM TEXAS, Yall!!

Because the Obama Store is too overloaded to ship immediately, we really need a graphic designer to create a downloadable template of the Obama 08 lapel stickers for anyone to print themselves!!!

Must be idiot proof!!

Oh yes, this idiot is a genius...lol

Democrat or Independent?

I just asked myself this question: Am I a Democrat or an Independent?

I think most of us who support Barack that have contributed money and time for the first time are probably jaded Democrats, making us true independents.

The reason why I say that is because if Hillary Clinton is the Golden Girl of the Democratic party, and I'm suppose to be a Democrat...why do I feel so dirty?

I don't want to see Hillary as the Democratic nominee, Veep or anything. I can't imagine voting in a election without him. I can't imagine America without his voice, heard nightly on the news.

Kinda sad just thinking about John Edwards and Bill Richardson's opportunistic silence.

Confused, yet totally committed (now more than ever) . I live and vote in TEXAS...wish me luck!!!

When I go to bed tonight I will sleep well knowing that the people's desire for true change will prevail.

This "movement" is now my reality. I will forever be changed by the power of the people, the hope for the future and the comfort in knowing it is possible.

Good luck Barack and America!

The time is NOW!

There is NO WAY he would run with her as VP. She is way too polarizing. She bugs a lot of Dem's, and more importantly, Independents and Republicans (who are jumping on the Barack train by the thousands).

The press and analysts love what he did tonight....he just proved that if he can get along with Hillary, (after all the bad blood of late), he can get along with anybody, thus bringing the country together.

Very Smart Barack!

A Letter from my NeoCon father

Like most American families, I have found myself the optimist Democrat voice in a sea of Neo Con Republican's. My father, who affectionately refers to me as his "Commie-Pinko" recently sent me this email. I think it's important to see how the other half live and think, and in some starnge way, we all share the same fear of living up to the hype.

A letter from my father:

Did I tell you that I have an outstanding bet on the general election? I am betting your guy to win the whole enchilada. The problem with any politician is the difference between campaign promises and actual performance. In the past 50 years, most presidents' actual performance has diverged from campaign promises and expectations, with some exceptions (Truman, Eisenhower and Bush 2),
If your guy wins, I hope he will not disappoint in this respect. Of course, I am under no illusion that he will be nothing but an old-time liberal whose presidency will be a failure in most respects, and catastrophic in his nominations to the federal judiciary and in his conduct of foreign policy. McCain, Paul and Huckabee are a danger to the health of the Republican Party. I think history will not be kind to most Republican politicians, to include Bush 2, for their disregard of principles and emulation of Democrats in the past 8 years.
Mozart & Saliere

Chris Matthews came up with the most accurate description of what we are witnessing in this campaign.

He was telling the story of Saliere and Mozart, comparing Hillary (Saliere) to Barack (Mozart). He said, while Saliere was the King's most respected composer, with a lifetime of hard work and devotion, considered to be a great composer, dedicated and well respected among his peers, he still was no Mozart. And it was Saliere who was first to recognize the genius in Mozart.

Saliere was suppose to be the greatest, most deserving of his title. He was suppose to garner all of the attention, it was expected and it was his right. He earned it, right? How do you think he felt when he first heard Mozart's compositions? I bet he was torn. Torn between recognizing greatness, genius and aknowleging that Mozart's talent was greater than his own? Naturally, he felt compelled to supress the talent that he knew would be unparalleled, and ultimately his inevitable replacement in history.

Perhaps a Mozart happens so rarely. Even still, we all dream of a Mozart showing up in our lifetime, a highly inprobable event. What would we do if we found him? What a conflict the Clinton's, and moreover the party Democrats must be feeling right about now.

But how do you deny a Mozart, a genius, a gift from God to humanity? The answer is, you can't. If the talent is undeniable, you embrace it, recognize the moment in history and allow it to enter into our history for all time.

It's not a fair playing field, it's destiny. How bittersweet it must be for Hillary Clinton.

Reagan, Obama and Clinton Desperation

This is what the Replublicans think about this subject:

The Telephone Man Most of us have played a game called Telephone. The instructive exercise involves passing along a brief message from person to person by whispering it quickly in their ear, and at the end comparing what was originally said to the message at the end. It proves that people filter messages to such an extent that the final product almost always bears no resemblance to the original.

Meet Bill Clinton, the one-man telephone game. Saying that his "legs fell out" -- whatever that means -- when he heard Barack Obama's recent reference to Ronald Reagan, he proved that he either hadn't read it for himself or just decided to lie about it (see update below): Bill Clinton joined his wife in targeting Barack Obama's statement about Republican ideas, saying that his "legs fell out" when he read it.

"Her principal opponent said that since 1992, the Republicans have had all the good ideas," Clinton told a crowd in Pahrump this morning. "It goes along with their plan to ask Republicans to become Democrats for a day and caucus with you tomorrow, and then go back and become Republicans so they can participate in the Republican primary. I'm not making this up, folks."

He then asked which ideas were better in the last 15 years "than the new ideas I brought to Washington," outlining issue-by-issue where Republicans stood on his accomplishments. "I can't imagine any Democrat seeking the presidency would say they were the party of new ideas for the last 15 years. But it sounded good in Reno I guess," he said. "So now it turns out you can choose between somebody who thinks our ideas or better or the Republicans had all the good ideas."

Well, if that had been what Obama had actually said, I suppose Clinton would have had a point. Unfortunately, Obama said nothing of the kind. He didn't say that the Democrats didn't have any new ideas for 15 years or fifteen minutes. In fact, he didn't say anything about ideas at all. Here is what Obama actually said about Ronald Reagan that made Bill Clinton's legs fall out:

I don't want to present myself as some sort of singular figure. I think part of what's different are the times...I think Ronald Reagan changed the trajectory of America in a way that Richard Nixon did not and in a way that Bill Clinton did not. He put us on a fundamentally different path because the country was ready for it. I think they felt like with all the excesses of the 1960s and 1970s and government had grown and grown but there wasn't much sense of accountability in terms of how it was operating. I think people, he just tapped into what people were already feeling, which was we want clarity we want optimism, we want a return to that sense of dynamism and entrepreneurship that had been missing.

Where did Obama mention ideas at all? In fact, rather than praising Reagan, Obama argued that Reagan had the blessing of fortunate timing more than anything else. It hardly ranks as an endorsement of the man himself, something John Edwards also managed to misinterpret. Obama doesn't mention any ideas at all, and only references themes of dynamism, optimism, and entrepeneurship -- and how they succeeded only because America was ready for them.

That's it. Obama didn't say that the Democrats lacked ideas. He correctly stated that the Clinton administration did not change the trajectory of America, and that's obviously true enough. After attempting to nationalize the health care industry, Clinton lost Congress and wound up triangulating back into Reagan territory, pushing for spending control and welfare reform.

But the truth has never stopped Bill Clinton, and it never will. The Telephone Man will insist on filtering actual quotes and regurgitating them in whatever way he can to smear his opponents. This is just the latest -- and most absurd -- example.

UPDATE: Obama mentioned ideas in another part of the interview that had little to do with Reagan, as the Lady Logician points out:

"I think it's fair to say that the Republicans were the party of ideas for a pretty long chunk of time there over the last 10 to 15 years in the sense that they were challenging conventional wisdom," Obama told the newspaper.

That is a little more on point, but still doesn't equate to "Republicans have had all the good ideas". Even Clinton wound up gravitating towards the Republican agenda after 1994; he certainly didn't propose welfare reform, for instance, but made the best of having it thrust on him. The Democrats have had ideas, but they revolve around Establishment principles of expanding government control, hardly a challenge to their conventional wisdom.

Of course, I think Republicans have had almost all of the good ideas, but if you listen to the interview with the Reno Gazette Journal -- which is videotaped and streamed at their site -- Obama's point isn't that Republicans are great, but that acid partisanship is bad. He argues that changing the tone in Washington requires voters to support candidates who make realistic policy assessments based on value and not partisan origination. Clinton proves Obama correct in his knee-jerk response.
Posted by Ed Morrissey on January 19, 2008 7:18 AM

Damn Media

Where was Barack on Sunday morning TV anyway??

It was hard watching Hillary telling Tim Russert all about our candidate as if she really knows him. What's even more insulting is Tim Russert and his inept way of asking her a question (while knowing the truth) and then allowing her to completely evade answering it, or even worse allowing her to spin it her way.

It is completely unfair that candidates can spew lies about the other without either the other candidate or his supporters be there to defend themselves, at least within the same hour of the interview! It felt like an infomercial, rather than an interview.

This interview was full of lies and deceit, and Tim Russert allowed her to get away with it. I hope the voters were as insulted as I was!!

There is no class or dignity and no end to what you are willing to do to be the nominee.

Change is not you. You are not change.
CNN Situation Room Observation

I was watching Cnn Situation Room today, and they had a Republican strategist who was all but converting when he commented on Barack. Apparently Barack was speaking at the CDC about how he, as a black man (and what he has to offer the world, namely UNITY) has the opportunity to completely change the world's perception of us as a nation. The arguement is that by simply electing a minority for the first time in our history, would somehow imply that we are a more tolerant and compassionate nation? I don't know, but the strategist was completely defending his position, and downright salivating when he was speaking about him. He was also saying that Barack will overtake Hillary in the polls, and was "unlike" the other Democratic candidates. He needs more airtime, dammit. It was cool. Hillary loves Barack too. It's hard to find anyone who isn't completely impressed with him. We need to worry about Bloomberg...NOT!

If you AGREE with me that he NEEDS MORE AIRTIME! Comment here!

Austin Barack-ed It on June 9th

I am happy to report that support for Senator Obama is as big as Texas. Obama Mama of Lakeway fashioned a group of Obama supporters to spread the word here in Austin, Texas. Being from Texas, you really don't know what to expect from our neighbors. The conversations were engaging, the volunteerism, inspiring. I had many memories from our walk that were so special, one of which was the story of Tyler K. He signed up for my walk just about as soon as I posted it. He would email me on a regular basis. I was concerned, however because he told me he was only 13 yrs. old, and he was totally into supporting Senator Obama, his exact words were he's "kick ass". Anyway, we started having members showing up before the walk, and low and behold, the cutest lttle kid introduces his mother to me and then revealed that he was Tyler. I couldn't believe how excited and motivated a 13 year old could be over politics and the "process". It turns out that not only did he walk and generated much interest from the public, but his little fingers must have been rubbed raw by the amount of brochures he passed out that day. It was one of the coolest things I had ever witnessed. Tyler is now emailing me again to see if we can charter a bus to go to the San Antonio meeting with Senator Obama. Vigilant, I tell you! He's the future! Hip, hip hooray!

Stephanie aka Obama Mama, Austin TX

It's About Freakin' Time...

Let's hope so, anyway!
