One Citizen

While thinking of the entire campaign and my involvement in it for 21 months, I felt inspired to write a poem in an attempt to summarize all of my emotions. It was difficult to put 21 months and so many experiences into words but this was what came through my fingers from my brain. I hope you like it and feel free to share it with others.

One Citizen

I am just a citizen.
A citizen of my town, Rock Island,
Of my state, Illinois,
Of my country, America.

I am just a citizen.
One who admired a senator.
A Senator from my state.
A Senator at the state level.
A Senator at the national level.

I am just a citizen.
Who listened to a speech,
Who read about his history,
Who came to volunteer.

I am just a citizen.
Inspired by a man.
Inspired by a message,
A message of HOPE,
A message of CHANGE.

I am just a citizen.
I felt it was my duty,
My time to give something back,
My time to help a man.

I am just a citizen.
Knocking on strangers’ doors,
Calling people in other states,
Reaching out to others with my optimism.

I am just a citizen.
Longing for something new.
Something better for my child,
Something better for my grandchild,
Something better for this world.

I am just a citizen.
A citizen who believed.
A citizen who had faith.
A citizen who gave.
A citizen who is proud.

I am just a citizen.
One of millions,
One who held a piece of history in her hand.
One renewed by our ability to CHANGE.
To CHANGE our country, our world,
To CHANGE how people act.

I am just a citizen.
Sitting in the background,
Listening, watching, admiring.
I am just one.
Proud of what you represent.
Proud I shook your hand,
Proud I gave my time.

I am just a citizen.
Who thanks you!

R.
I was a Ten

I was a ten. I was for a long, long, time. I was in the top ten too, before the new numbering system. I really thought that something was going to be awarded to the top ten. Guess I live in a fantasy world.

I have now gone down to a six. It doesn't take much to lose ground here these days. I gave of myself and neglected many other things I should have been paying attention to in my life. I gave it all up to see Barack elected. I was true to this site numerous times a day for 21 months. I did all of it to see Barack elected. I would do it all over again and never look back once. I gave to my community, my state,my nation, my world. I contributed. I am proud.

But now it is time to move forward. I will never forget all of this in fact I look back on my experience everyday. Someday, I will once again get to see our next President. I will once again make phone calls, knock on doors, attend events, host events, and work events. But it will never be the same.

As I watch the inauguration Tuesday I will stand proud. I will have a happy heart knowing I had a piece of this history.

Thank you Barack Obama and all of the field organizers I had the pleasure of meeting and working with for 21 months.

Good bye!

Leave It Alone

Please leave it alone. Let Barack be sworn in before you go negative on him. For heavens sake, he is inheriting the worst economy and world issues than any other President in history. He knows what he is doing. He knows what needs to be done. It took Bush less than 8 years to screw things up. Let's give Barack some time to straighten it all out.

Cancel the Hotel

I just called to cancel a hotel room that I had booked almost one year ago for the inauguration. At the time I booked it the price of the room with a king size bed was $89.00 per night. When I called tonight to cancel the room the manager told me it was now going for $300.00 per night.

WOW! Too bad I didn't auction it off on the web or this site. But I am an honest person and do not believe in taking advantage of a situation such as this. I did put it up on the site before cancelling so someone could have taken advantage of the hard to get room in DC.

Oh well, I wish the best to everyone lucky enough to be attending this huge event. I will be calling in to work, sitting in my house, and watching from our TV but my heart and my soul will be there along with the friends I have made through the Obama Campaign. Katie has promised me awesome pictures and a hug to Barack.

Hotel Rooms

Way back in January 2008, right after Barack Obama won the Iowa caucus, I made hotel reservations in Alexandria, VA for the Inauguration. I have two hotel rooms at two locations. I may not be using either one of them. If interested please email me at the following email: renseema@yahoo.com I will take first come first serve and will notify individually if you are the person who is fortunate enough to get the one hotel room for sure.

Both rooms are at nationally known hotels. Hampton Inn and Days Inn are the hotels. I will know by the end of this week if I am using either one of them.

Thanks and good luck.

I recently returned home from the Illinois Raising Student Achievement Conference in St. Charles, Illinois. The school where I am employed as a special education facilitator, was honored by being asked to present to other educators how our school redeemed itself and got off of the academic warning list.

While there I attended a workshop that one of the keynote speakers was conducting. He held a questions and answers session with the focus being why did we as educators go into the profession. His parents are both in education so he knows it was not for fame, glory, or money. He wanted to hear from us, the teachers, administrators, and other educators so he could share the information with other groups when he travels across the world.

There were the gushy stories. The stories that made us smile and reflect, or bring a tear into our eye. Everyone had a story to tell. My hand was in the air for a short time, but I was not called upon to share. Most of the stories were about seeing the light bulb turn on for their students or becuase a teacher had inspired them to go into the profession. I wanted to share some things that I was reflecting upon after the session. We can always discuss the positive things that brought us all to the world of education but here are some things I did not sign up for when becoming an educator.

1. Children calling staff filthy words.

2. Out of control parents screaming and yelling profanity at staff.

3. Children who are so angry due to factors in their lives that they swear at me or become so outraged they toss a chair, head butt a staff member, or tell another student they want to kill them.

4. Parents not sending their student to school becuase snow was in the forecast.

5. Students skipping school to have sex parties, and drinking parties.

6. Watching very pregnant middle school students walking through the building.

I could list severl more "things I did not sign up for", but I think you catch my drift. I wish the insanity would end. Maybe I will see it with new leadership in the White House. Maybe students and parents will learn to value the education system in the United States. We are fortunate to have many wonderful parents, students, and professionals in the field. Maybe one day.

Changes

We are headed down a road to CHANGE. This song keeps ringing in my head only because it talks about changes and how they are faced. We are faced with the toughest of economic times ahead. Every day the news is grim and becomes darker. With Barack Obama leading us I am sure the tough times can be replaced but it will take some time and CHANGES made by we the people.

Changes
David Bowie

I still don't know what I was waiting for
And my time was running wild
A million dead-end streets
Every time I thought I'd got it made
It seemed the taste was not so sweet
So I turned myself to face me
But I've never caught a glimpse
Of how the others must see the faker
I'm much too fast to take that test

Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes
(Turn and face the strain)
Ch-ch-Changes
Don't want to be a richer man
Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes
(Turn and face the strain)
Ch-ch-Changes
Just gonna have to be a different man
Time may change me
But I can't trace time

I watch the ripples change their size
But never leave the stream
Of warm impermanence and
So the days float through my eyes
But still the days seem the same
And these children that you spit on
As they try to change their worlds
Are immune to your consultations
They're quite aware of what they're going through

Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes
(Turn and face the strain)
Ch-ch-Changes
Don't tell t hem to grow up and out of it
Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes
(Turn and face the strain)
Ch-ch-Changes
Where's your shame
You've left us up to our necks in it
Time may change me
But you can't trace time

Strange fascination, fascinating me
Changes are taking the pace I'm going through

Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes
(Turn and face the strain)
Ch-ch-Changes
Oh, look out you rock 'n rollers
Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes
(Turn and face the strain)
Ch-ch-Changes
Pretty soon you're gonna get a little older
Time may change me
But I can't trace time
I said that time may change me
But I can't trace time

Dear President Elect and First Lady

Tonight I sat and watched the interview you had with CBS 60 Minutes. May I say it was another fabulous interview. I just admire the way you both stay so cool, calm, and collected. When you walk into the White House and make it your home, you will be making so many Americans proud of this country once again but even more important we will be proud to have your family bring back respect to our nation. What a perfect family to bring laughter, smiles, fun, and children back into this national home.

21 Long Months

After 21 long months on the campaign trail Barack Obama is set to make history tomorrow as he becomes the next President elect.

I cannot begin to recap the 20 months that I have personally been nvolved in this campaign for the Senator from my state of Illinois. All I can say is that every minute, every hour, every door that I knocked on, every phone call I made, all of the time that I took away from the typical things that I did prior to the campaign. all of the time that I took away from family, it has all been worth it.

I was involved in my neighboring state of Iowa. Can I tell you how very fortunate I have been to be involved in Iowa. First was all of the pre-caucus phone calling, door knocking, and events. The events! How very fortunate I have been to be able to work so many events in Iowa that Barack Obama recognizes me! I had the opportunity to also meet Michelle Obama a couple of times. And let's not forget the JJ event in Des Moines. John Legend opened the night with a few songs before we marched strong into the auditorium. We sat and waited for the speeches to begin for hours and then Barack was last! They definitely saved the best fr last! He took the walls down. His team of field organizers were so on top of things, so organized, from the time we held up a sign to the cheer we were to chant.

History. I have been a part of history that my baby grand daughter will study some day in her history class. She and I will sit togethr and look through my scrapbooks. We will chat of the importance of the election. She will know that her bubbe was so involved in the campaign not only for AMerica, but for her future.

Tomorrow evening I will be blogging my election night thoughts. Right now it is time to get some sleep before the polls open at 6:00 in Illinois and 7:00 in Iowa. I still have phone calls to make! So TTFN....

This Stuff is Freaky

I saw this article and read it. Now I wish I hadn't because it really scares me! Please people, stop pushing your fundamentalist religious conservatism on everyone else. Keep religion in your place of worship. These groups are over the edge!

Christian right intensifies attacks on Obama
Terrorist strikes on four American cities. Russia rolling into Eastern Europe. Israel hit by a nuclear bomb. Gay marriage in every state. The end of the Boy Scouts. All are plausible scenarios if Democrat Barack Obama is elected president, according to a new addition to the campaign conversation called "Letter from 2012 in Obama's America," produced by the conservative Christian group Focus on the Family Action.
The imagined look into the future is part of an escalation in rhetoric from Christian right activists who are trying to paint Obama in the worst possible terms as the campaign heads into the final stretch and polls show the Democrat ahead.
Although hard-edge attacks are common late in campaigns, the tenor of the strikes against Obama illustrate just how worried conservative Christian activists are about what should happen to their causes and influence if Democrats seize control of both Congress and the White House.
"It looks like, walks like, talks like and smells like desperation to me," said the Rev. Kirbyjon Caldwell of Houston, an Obama supporter who backed President Bush in the past two elections. The Methodist pastor called the 2012 letter "false and ridiculous." He said it showed that some Christian conservative leaders fear that Obama's faith-based appeals to voters are working.
Like other political advocacy groups, Christian right groups often raise worries about an election's consequences to mobilize voters. In the early 1980s, for example, direct mail from the Moral Majority warned that Congress would turn a blind eye to "smut peddlers" dangling pornography to children.
"Everyone uses fear in the last part of a campaign, but evangelicals are especially theologically prone to those sorts of arguments," said Clyde Wilcox, a Georgetown University political scientist. "There's a long tradition of predicting doom and gloom."
But the tone this election year is sharper than usual and the volume has turned up as Nov. 4 nears.
Steve Strang, publisher of Charisma magazine, a Pentecostal publication, titled one of his recent weekly e-mails to readers, "Life As We Know It Will End If Obama is Elected."
Strang said gay rights and abortion rights would be strengthened in an Obama administration, taxes would rise and "people who hate Christianity will be emboldened to attack our freedoms."
Separately, a group called the Christian Anti-Defamation Commission has posted a series of videos on its site and on YouTube called "7 Reasons Barack Obama is not a Christian."
The commission accuses Obama of "subtle diabolical deceit" in saying he is Christian, while he believes that people can be saved through other faiths.
But among the strongest pieces this year is Focus on the Family Action's letter which has been posted on the group's Web site and making the e-mail rounds. Signed by "A Christian from 2012," it claims a series of events could logically happen based on the group's interpretation of Obama's record, Democratic Party positions, recent court rulings and other trends.
Among the claims:
• A 6-3 liberal majority Supreme Court that results in rulings like one making gay marriage the law of the land and another forcing the Boy Scouts to "hire homosexual scoutmasters and allow them to sleep in tents with young boys." (In the imagined scenario, The Boy Scouts choose to disband rather than obey).
• A series of domestic and international disasters based on Obama's "reluctance to send troops overseas." That includes terrorist attacks on U.S. soil that kill hundreds, Russia occupying the Baltic states and Eastern European countries including Poland and the Czech Republic, and al-Qaida overwhelming Iraq.
• Nationalized health care with long lines for surgery and no access to hospitals for people over 80.
The goal was to "articulate the big picture," said Carrie Gordon Earll, senior director of public policy for Focus on the Family Action. "If it is a doomsday picture, then it's a realistic picture," she said.
One of the clear targets is younger evangelicals who might be considering Obama. The letter posits that young evangelicals provide the margin that let Obama defeat John McCain. But Margaret Feinberg, a Denver-area evangelical author, predicted failure.
"Young evangelicals are tired — like most people at this point in the election — and rhetoric which is fear-based, strong-arms the listener, and states opinion as fact will only polarize rather than further the informed, balanced discussion that younger voters are hungry for," she said.
In an interview, Strang said there are fewer state ballot measures to motivate conservative voters this election year and that the financial meltdown is distracting some voters from the abortion issue. But he said a last-minute push by conservative Christians in 2004 was key to Bush's re-election and predicted they could play the same role in 2008.
Kim Conger, a political scientist at Iowa State University, said a late push for evangelical voters did help Bush in 2004, "but it is a very different thing than getting people excited about John McCain," even with Alaska even with Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his vice presidential pick.
Phil Burress, head of the Ohio-based Citizens for Community Values, said the dynamics were quite different in 2004, when conservative Christians spent some energy calling Democrat John Kerry a flip-flopper but were mostly motivated by enthusiasm for George W. Bush.
Now, there is less excitement about McCain than fear of an Obama presidency, Burress said.
"This reminds me of when I was a school kid, when I had to go out in the hall and bury my head in my hands because of the atom bomb," he said.

Stop It Palin! You Are a Nut Case!

NEW YORK – Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin says she supports a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage, a break with John McCain who has said he believes states should be left to define what marriage is.
In an interview with Christian Broadcasting Network, the Alaska governor said she had voted in 1998 for a state amendment banning same sex marriage and hoped to see a federal ban on such unions.
"I have voted along with the vast majority of Alaskans who had the opportunity to vote to amend our Constitution defining marriage as between one man and one woman. I wish on a federal level that's where we would go. I don't support gay marriage," Palin said. She said she believed traditional marriage is the foundation for strong families.
McCain, an Arizona senator, is supporting a ballot initiative in his state this year that would ban gay marriage. But he has consistently and forcefully opposed a federal marriage amendment, saying it would usurp states' authority on such matters.
As governor, Palin vetoed a bill that would have denied benefits to the partners of gay state employees. In a debate with Democratic rival Joe Biden, Palin said she was "tolerant" of gays and said she supported certain legal protections for same-sex couples, like hospital visitation rights.
Biden, meanwhile, said during an appearance Monday on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" that if he lived in California he would vote against a ballot measure that seeks to ban gay marriage. DeGeneres, who is gay and newly wed to actress Portia de Rossi, has urged Californians to reject Proposition 8.
"I think it's regressive," the Delaware senator said. "I think it's unfair, and so I vote 'no.'"
Biden added that he and Barack Obama, the Democratic presidential nominee, opposed a similar initiative nationally. In the debate with Palin, Biden said he supporters partnerships rights for gays and lesbians, although he also opposes same-sex marriage.
In the CBN interview, Palin also said she would speak out if she heard a supporter at a rally yell violent or threatening comments about Barack Obama, the Democratic presidential nominee.
"What we have heard through some mainstream media is that folks have hollered out some atrocious and unacceptable things like 'kill him,'" Palin said, referring to a Washington Post story two weeks ago about angry supporters at a Palin rally in Florida. "If I ever were to hear that standing up there at the podium with the mike, I would call them out on that, and I would tell these people, no, that's unacceptable."
CBN released excerpts of the interview Monday and planned to broadcast it in its entirety Tuesday.
Palin also claimed religion and God had been "mocked" during the campaign, although she offered no evidence to support that.
"Faith in God in general has been mocked through this campaign, and that breaks my heart and that is unfair for others who share a faith in God and choose to worship our Lord in whatever private manner that they deem fit," she said.
Palin is a conservative Christian who was baptized and grew up attending Pentecostal churches. In September, Obama defended Palin's religious beliefs and said it would be "offensive" to portray her faith as strange or wrong.
Palin also reaffirmed her view that Obama had been "palling around with terrorists" because of his association with Bill Ayers, a 1960s-era radical who helped found the violent Weather Underground group to protest the Vietnam war. The group was responsible for bombings of several government buildings.
"I would say it again," she said.
Ayers and Obama live in the same Chicago neighborhood and have served together on charity boards. Ayers also hosted a house party for Obama when he was first running for the Illinois state Senate.

We Lost a Good One

On October 14th, the Barack Obama campaign lost one of its biggest grassroots supporters who was diagnosed one year ago with pancreatic cancer.

Beth Wehrman of LeClaire, Iowa was involved in the campaign from its onset in Iowa. She traveled into the Davenport office frequently to make calls, stuff envelopes, enter data into computers, knock on doors, etc. so she could see the end result, Barack Obama as our next POTUS.

Beth was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, nurse, and friend. She will be missed by many people.

Beth had been hospitalized for treatment just prior to the Iowa caucus. She was in the hospital when she received a phone call from Barack. It thrilled her to be able to speak directly with Barack and let him know about how her insurance was handling her case amongst other things. Her most recent honor was to see Barack again in September when he was in town for a small town hall gathering with undecided voters. In fact, she had just been released from the hospital earlier that day. She would not miss this for anything. Her strength and family were with her through it all. Her goal had been to see Barack Obama elected. I am sorry to say that she didn't make it. Only 19 days out but she just could not hang on.

To top it off, her husband was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer. He was honored by being the republican turned Obama supporter who introduced Barack at the town hall in Davenport.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Beth's. My special message to them, we will celebrate Barack's victory and toast Beth as the avid supporter she was.

Squirming in the Chair

McCain is squirming. Have you seen him trying to look Presidential! He is not. He continues to go off of the question, tries to be negative toward Barack in every chance he gets, or takes, and cannot be honest at all.

McCain is a fool. I think he looks nervous, out of touch, and dishonest. This should bring us even more votes.

He looked at Barack like he had never even heard about Barack's health care plan. Barack looks like he would really like to tell John where to go.

Republican attack, fear, and lies.......

One to Share

A friend saw this and sent it to me today knowing that I have been trying to reach out to the still undecided voters, which blows my mind that someone can still be undecided after everything that has been taking place.

I thought it was worth sharing with all of you so you to can give people something to think about.

What if John McCain were a former president of the Harvard Law Review? What if Barack Obama finished fifth from the bottom of his graduating class?

What if McCain were still married to the first woman he said 'I do' to? What if Obama were the candidate who left his first wife after she no longer measured up to his standards?

What if Michelle Obama were a wife who not only became addicted to pain killers, but acquired them illegally through her charitable organization? What if Cindy McCain graduated from Harvard?

What if Obama were a member of the Keating-5? What if McCain were a charismatic, eloquent speaker?

If these questions reflected reality, do you really believe the election numbers would be as close as they are?

This is what racism does. It covers up, rationalizes and minimizes positive qualities in one candidate and emphasizes negative qualities in another when there is a color difference.

You are The Boss... which team would you hire with America facing historic debt, two wars, stumbling health care, a weakened dollar, all-time high prison population, mortgage crises, bank foreclosures, etc.

Educational Background:
OBAMA
Columbia University - B.A. Political Science with a Specialization in International Relations.
Harvard - Juris Doctor (J.D.) Magna Cum Laude

BIDEN
University of Delaware - B.A. in History and B.A. in Political Science.
Syracuse University College of Law - Juris Doctor (J.D.)

vs.

MCCAIN

United States Naval Academy - Class rank: 894 of 899

PALIN

Hawaii Pacific University - 1 semester
North Idaho College - 2 semesters - general study
University of Idaho - 2 semesters - journalism
Matanuska-Susitna College - 1 semester
University of Idaho - 3 semesters - B.A. in Journalism

Now, which team are you going to hire ?

Canvass in Madison

Went up to Madison this weekend to knock on some dorrs, hand out fliers, do what I could to find supporters or undecided voters. We started out early and with a bit of a chill in the air near the lake, I decided to wear my white, zip-up sweatshirt which has Barack's quote about HOPE printed on the left side of it in black. The quote for those of you who are not familiar with it says this, "In the unlikely story that is America, there has never been anything false about HOPE."

An elderly man made a comment to me about the quote being a fabulous quote. HE obviously couldn't see who the quote was from because he asked me, "Who said that?" When I replied, "Barack Obama", he said , "Oh, who did he steal that quote from? All he does is steal lines from other speeches." I said, "I beg your pardon sir, Barack Obama did not steal this quote. HE spoke those words from his heart and from his love of his country." At which point I said to him, "It is obvious you are not a supporter nor a person who is interested in listening to the truth. Sorry that I interrupted your day and on Nov. 5th remember our chat and my face because I will be the one celebrating the victory of the election of Barack Obama."

I had to go there. I had to and there was no stopping the words flowing my my mouth.

Documentary Brings Obama a New Supporter

I emailed so many people yesterday about the documentary film, "Who is this Guy?" and I thank everyone who has gone out to Blockbuster to purchase or rent the movie.

My cousin, who lives in Florida and is typically a Republican voter, went right out yesterday to rent the movie, brought it home, watched it, and then emailed me to say that she thought it was absolutely fabulous! In fact, she even admitted to me that she had been trying to learn about all of the candidates prior to the Primaries and she had been impressed with Obama. Her true Republican blood had some doubts, but she went along with an open mind.

She watched everything going on in the news, the polls, and especially in Florida how the candidates were progressing and winner over voters. As voters clearly gave us the two candidates that we now have, she waited patiently for the DNC and RNC so she could finally be won over by one or the other. Although Obama clearly moved her, she liked the idea of Palin on the Republican ticket.

And then....Palin goofs up on interviews, doubt starts coming back into her mind, and finally my email to her. After watching the documentary she made her decision to vote for Barack and not only that to show the film to other friends of hers who are still undecided.

What an impact! I am so thrilled that this documentary film has effected my cousin and who knows how many other undecided people out there.

Thank you!

OBAMA MOVIE.....HELP SPREAD THE WORD!!

Friends, colleagues: I've just discovered a documentary that is going to change this election! It's called "Who Is This Guy?" I am a news junkie and it's a take on Barack Obama and this election like I have never seen before. Anyone who cares about this country needs to see this film before November 4th. Who we choose as the new leader of the free world has never been more important. This film tells the historic narrative of this election with factual analysis and real people without ever demonizing or belittling anyone. The production is stunning -- it'll make you angry, make you laugh, cry and wonder "how did I miss this?

I don't know where else this film is available but I found "Who Is This Guy?” at my local Blockbuster! It answers: Who is Obama...what drives him...how did he get here, and describes the monumentally historic reality of this election and its reach.

This is what I discovered about it:

SYNOPSIS: Narrated by Blair Underwood, the film is an in-depth look at Barack Obama as a senator, family man, steward of the community and presidential candidate through the prism of luminaries, politicos, academics, politically active celebrities and former friends and associates of Barack Obama. "Who Is This Guy" is a snapshot of Barack Obama's candidacy for president and the spin that factored into this historic 2008 election leading up to the DNC. The film captures the imaginations of luminaries and regular Americans as they describe Barack Obama, some having worked with him in the trenches of Chicago politics, Obama supporters in his movement for change and others who simply want their voices heard -- answering two often asked questions: Who is he? Why Obama now?

Send this to everyone you know and ask them to send out their own email blast reaching at least 100 people more...to buy it, rent it, and then go vote!

LET'S GET FIRED UP AND READY TO WIN!!!!

LET'S GET FIRED UP & READY TO WIN!!!!!!

I don't know where else this film is available but I found "Who Is This Guy?" at my local Blockbuster!

Get you local office to rent it and do a watch party! LET'S GET FIRED UP & READY TO WIN!!!!

This Amazing Woman

I had to read this letter over and over again today when it was sent to me from another supporter and friend. WOW! She really puts this into eloquent words to express why Pallin did not deserve the VP and why we as women should not support her just because she has the same anatomy as all other women. Besides the fact that she is republican and we are democrats who are supporters of Barack.

I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I have.

A Woman's Worth
We've come a long way baby
Tuesday, September 09, 2008
By Goldie Taylor
I have been a mother all of my adult life. A single working mother. I put off dating, took menial jobs far beneath my qualifications and baked my share of ginger bread cookies for PTA Night, all so that three incredible children could have better. I chose their lives over mine. I don't have to tell you that it wasn't easy. Unfortunately, my story, our story, is not
unique.
We slept in cars, bought groceries with food stamps and prayed for a better day. When that wasn't enough, I put myself through school at Emory University and took a part-time job as a staff writer at the Atlanta Journal Constitution. That was over a decade ago.
Along the way, things got better. I've been an executive at two Fortune 500 companies and a practice director at two multinational public relations firms. Today, I own an advertising agency and I've authored two novels. A third and fourth are on the way, God willing. All of this was possible because somebody laid a brick or two on the road for me.
A few weeks ago, I woke in tears. It wasmy 40th birthday and certainly not a time for sadness. Rather, I cried in joy because for the first time I realized and could embrace the value of the struggle. The bright little girl, who once cried in my arms because we didn't know where we were going to live, was headed off to Brown University . The small boy who had been the "man of the house" far too soon was now truly a man. And the tiny, angelic baby who had come to this world precious and innocent just 15 months after him was now a 16 year old girl headed out to her first job interview.
For all of this, maybe I should be proud of a woman like Sarah Palin. Maybe, just maybe, I should be rejoicing in John McCain's selected running mate.
But I'm not.
I'm not "bed wetting liberal" nor am I a "right-wing zealot." What I am is a working mother. And I cry foul.
I won't, for a moment, denigrate her experience or lob spit balls at her family. I will, though, take issue with what she knows. Or more succinctly, what she does not know. Living in Alaska , I'm not sure how much she knows about the people living in inner city Baltimore . I don't know how much she cares about the 125 murders this summer in Chicago . I have no idea what she believes about HIV/ AIDS and the havoc it wrecks on Black women or the cancer rates in East St. Louis . She hasn't said nary a word about Hurricane Katrina or the infant mortality rates in Appalachia .
I do know that she's a life-time member of the NRA, a proponent of individuals who wielded the very weapons that killed my father and brother. I do know that she “lives really close to Russia ,” but I'm not so certain she is ready for Putin. I know she wanted to ban books for public libraries and sex education in schools, but that her 17 year old is pregnant and preparing for a shotgun wedding. I know that she loves her husband enough to allow him (and probably did herself) use her office to settle a personal score--one that the McCain campaign would now like to cover in under a blanket of Juneau snow. I know that the Alaska Independent Party, and its secessionist platform, was enticing enough for her to attend its conference (and for her husband to become a card carrying member). Does she love her country? I'm sure. Enough to support those who want to leave it.
But I have no earthly idea what she knows (or could possibly know) about national domestic policy or foreign diplomacy. For all of her working class values, she never once mentioned the Middle Class in her diatribe that mocked her opponent's experience. Having been the mayor of Wasilla (pop. 6,000 at the time) and governor of Alaska (a state a smaller than the county I live in) for a little over a year, she felt she was qualified to do that. And obviously, so did John McCain.
If she's qualified, then so am I.
But in this country I love, she has been afforded the ability to run. The very constitution she says doesn't apply to the men at Guantanamo says she can. But this is about more than that.
As Gloria Steinem said in a recent Los Angeles Times editorial, "Feminism has never been about getting a job for one woman. It's about making life more fair for women everywhere. It's not about a piece of the existing pie; there are too many of us for that. It's about baking a new pie."
The good news is thanks to Shirley Chisholm, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Angela Davis, Condoleeza Rice, Anita Hill, Madeline Albright, Maxine Waters, Kathleen Sebelius, Hilary Rodham Clinton and a slew of others, there are 18 million proverbial cracks in the ceiling. Our collective political and economic power is due to the strides (and leaps) they, and others, took on my behalf.
I am grateful. I am deeply humbled to stand on the bricks they'd laid before me.
But, whatever our struggle was (and is) that last thing I want is to be patronized. Just as I cannot support just any African American who decides to offer themselves up for public service, I will not toss my vote to someone just because we share the same chromosome mix. To do so would dishonor the vow I made to my children, to myself. I did not vote for Al Sharpton, wasn't old enough (nor would I have) voted for Jesse Jackson and I certainly will not support Sarah Palin. Identity politics, especially in this case, are a sham of the worst order.
When I cast my vote, it will be for people who will lay more bricks for people like me. It will be for people who will put diplomacy before war, challenge us all to provide healthcare for the sick, help another child go to college, and check the special interests in Washington . This fall, I'm not looking for a woman.
I'm looking for a brick layer.
I could care less if that person hasn't spent "enough" time in Washington or can "properly field dress a moose". I could care less if that person likes hockey, soccer, football or table tennis. I could care less if they graduated from Harvard or the University of Iowa . I'm a Christian, but I could care less if they are down with Deuteronomy, Leviticus or Numbers. I want them to uphold the Constitution.
So no, I will not sit idly by as they attempt to suspend habeas corpus at Guantanamo Bay, engage wiretaps on American citizens without a warrant, and hide behind executive privilege when they are caught firing attorney generals based on how well they tow the Republican line. I won't let them cost us $12 billion a month fighting a war that should have never been authorized and never been waged. Not while working people lose their homes to predatory lenders and watch as we bail out the financial institutions that created the housing crisis.

I will not, in the name of history, vote for a woman like Sarah Palin who does not share my values.
But here’s what I will do.
I will continue raising money for Barack Obama. I will get on the phone again and call people in distant states I've never met. I will e-mail, call, and knock on doors until the final vote is cast. I do this, not because he shares my skin, but because I admire his principals and he shares my values. I do this because Barack Obama is more than a community organizer, he is a bricklayer. And he sees -- just as he sees the light in Michelle's eyes -- my struggle, my worth as a woman.

For Those Who Think Israel is Nothing

For all of the people who support Obama but do not support Israel here are soe things that you owe a "thanks" to the people of Israel.

Israel's Accomplishments for the first 6 Months of 2008 IN THE FIRST SIX MONTHS OF 2008 ISRAEL HAS ACCOMPLISHED THE FOLLOWING:

1. Scientists in Israel, found that the brackish water, drilled from underground desert aquifers, hundreds of feet deep, could be used to raise warm-water fish. The geothermal water, less than one-tenth as saline as sea water, free of pollutants, and a toasty 98 degrees on average, proves an ideal environment.

2. Israel i-developed designer-eyeglasses, promise mobile phone and iPod users, a personalized, high-tech video display. Available to US consumers next year, Lumus-Optical's lightweight and fashionable video eyeglasses, feature a large transparent screen, floating in front of the viewer's face that projects their choice of movie, TV show, or video Game.

3. When Stephen Hawkins visited Israel recently, he shared his wisdom with scientists, students, and even the Prime Minister. But the world's most renown victim of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), or Lou Gehrig's disease, also learned something, due to the Israel i Association for ALS' advanced work in both embryonic and adult stem cell research, as well as its proven track record with neurodegenerative diseases. The Israel i research community is well on its way, to finding a treatment for this fatal disease, which affects 30,000 Americans.

4. Israel i start-up, Veterix, has developed an innovative new electronic capsule that sits in the stomach of a cow, sheep, or goat, sending out real-time information on the health of the herd, to the farmer via Email or cell phone. The e-capsule, which also sends out alerts if animals are distressed, injured, or lost, is now being tested on a herd of cows, in the hopes that the device will lead to tastier and healthier meat and milk supplies.

5. The millions of Skype users worldwide will soon have access to the newly developed KishKish lie-detector. This free internet service, based on voice stress analysis (a technique, commonly used
in criminal investigations), will be able to measure just how truthful that person on the other end of the line, really is.

6. Beating cardiac tissue has been created in a lab from human embryonic stem cells by researchers at the Rappaport Medical Faculty and the Technion- Israel Institute of Technology's biomedical Engineering faculty. The work of Dr. Shulamit Levenberg and Prof. Lior Gepstein, has also led to the creation of tiny blood vessels within the tissue, making possible its implantation in a human heart.

7. Israel's Magal Security Systems, is a worldwide leader in computerized security systems, with products used in more than 70 countries around the world, protecting anything from national borders, to nuclear facilities, refineries, and airports. The company's latest Product, DreamBox, a state-of-the-art security system that includes Intelligent video, audio and sensor management, is now being used by a major water authority on the US east coast to safeguard the utility's sites.

8. It is common knowledge that dogs have better night vision than humans and a vastly superior sense of smell and hearing. Israel 's Bio-Sense Technologies, recently delved further, and electronically analyzed 350 different barks. Finding that dogs of all breeds and sizes, bark the same alarm when they sense a threat, the firm has designed the dog bark-reader, a sensor that can pick up a dog's alarm bark, and alert the human operators. This is just one of a batch of innovative
security systems to emerge from Israel, which Forbes calls 'the go-to country for anti-terrorism technologies.'

9. Israeli company, BioControl Medical, sold its first electrical stimulator to treat urinary incontinence to a US company for $50 Million. Now, it is working on CardioFit, which uses electrical nerve stimulation to treat congestive heart failure. With nearly five million Americans presently affected by heart failure, and more than 400,000 new cases diagnosed yearly, the CardioFit is already generating a great deal of excitement as the first device with the potential to halt this
deadly disease.

10. One year after Norway's Socialist Left Party launched its boycott Israel campaign, the importing of Israel i goods has increased by 15%, the strongest increase in many years, Statistics Norway reports.

****In contrast to the efforts of tiny Israel to make contributions to the world so as to better mankind, one has to ask what have those who have strived to eliminate Israel from the face of the earth done other than to create hate and bloodshed.

Neighbor to Neighbor

The easiest way to help Senator Obama win this election is to stay at home and make phone calls to another state or print off a wlak packet for your neighborhood and ask supporters to volunteer in a swing state.

The tools for phone calling or walking your hood are on the dashboard and easy as pie. Just click and start. When you finish the first set you can always sign up to do more.

Please pitch in and help this campaign win!!!!

While I made calls tonight I found a few people who had been supporters but were now going to vote Republican. Yes, I got on my soap box and asked why they would want to continue support of an economy that is failing, education system that needs to be redefined, etc. One voter told me the only reason she was voting for McSame was because of Barack's stance on abortion. This always hit my nerve. I cannot stand the fact that religious groups try to push their religious rights onto my freedom of choice. Yes, I did have ne of these calls tonight as well. The woman I spoke with said she knew it was sad that she was voting on one issue and not a platform. I told her that making abortion illegal is not going to stop them from happening. Okay, I'll stop.

But the tools on the dashboard are easy and a great way to participate without having to leave your couch!

Phone Banking

Today I made over 200 phone calls to undecided and Republican women who have voted Democratic in the state of Iowa.

First, I knew it would be a tough day with the big in-state rivalry of Iowa State University and University of Iowa football happening just an hour west of us and second it was pouring down rain! Which means a lot of people would be using the day to stay inside and watch the game if there had not driven to Iowa City to tail gate. Which means, let the answering machine pick up.

Much to my surprise I did reach quite a few voters. I found some McCain supporters and some Obama supporters (YEAH!!!!), but what I found the most of were women who still had not made up their minds. The Undecided.

My first thought to myself, how can there be so many undecided people? It is like night and day between these two candidates. So I did my best to persuade and encourage these women to come to the barackobama.com site and look at the issues most important to them. I offered mailings or emails on the issues that are most improtant to them. I told them to stop by our local office to chat or get information. Most of all this is what I told them........

"As a woman I feel this election is very important to our gender. Barack Obama has had a long history of being an avid supporter and advocate for women's issues. As a woman I want someone in office who will look out for my best interests in all aspects. That is one reason why I support Barack Obama for President."

I hope that my words help some of these women or at least guide them in the right direction.

The other thing I heard many of them say was they are waiting to see what happens in the debates. That's so easy, a no brainer! Both Barack and Joe will blow their competition out of the water! I have no doubt about that!!!!

Well, I have to hand it to Charlie Gibson tonight, I think he did a great job of pushing Palin during his interviews. It was great to see her squirm in her own surroundings. There is something hidden Sarah and they will find your ghosts.
You are not ready to lead.
You do not understand or even have appropriate comprehension of many of the current issues.
You would take us to war again.
You would overturn my bodily choice.
You would be a disaster.
Now.....
On with the race and Barack/Joe taking office in January!
On with phone banking.
On with canvassing.
On with the real task.

A Great Read

Making a mockery of 9/11

Republicans have tried to make 9/11 their own personal day of mourning and political commemoration. But 9/11/2008 could well be remembered as a low point in GOP history. It's the day we learned beyond any doubt that John McCain put his manhood in a blind trust to win the presidency. By most reports he wanted to pick Joe Lieberman as his running mate, but Karl Rove and James Dobson told him he couldn't. So he chose someone who is unprepared to be president, who could well put the country at risk were she ever called to assume the presidency.

The fact that Sarah Palin sat for her humiliating interview with ABC's Charles Gibson on 9/11 is one of those strange serendipitous events that makes one believe there's order in the universe. Remember how 9/11 changed everything, especially our new seriousness about the larger world and foreign policy? Never again would we risk a president, maybe not even a Senate candidate, without global experience and sophistication.

What a mockery Palin made of all that. I'll get criticized as sexist for saying this, but I would say the same thing about a man who sounded this ignorant: Talking to Charles Gibson tonight, Palin sometimes reminded me of poor Miss South Carolina, who, asked why many Americans can't find the U.S. on a map, famously said: "I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because, uh, some people out there in our nation don't have maps. And I believe that our education, like, such as in South Africa and the Iraq, everywhere, like such as, and I believe that they should, our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S., or should help South Africa and should help the Iraq and the Asian countries so we will be able to build up our future for our children."

This statement from Palin about Iran President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is better, but not hugely: "I believe that under the leadership of Ahmadinejad, nucular weapons in the hands of his government are extremely dangerous to everyone on this globe, yes. We have got to make sure these weapons of mass destruction, that nucular weapons are not given to those hands of Ahmadinejad, not that he would use them, but that he would allow terrorists to be able to use them. So we have got to put the pressure on Iran."

Alex Koppelman immediately caught the biggest gaffe of the interview: Palin's deer-in-the-headlights ignorance about the "Bush doctrine" that claims for the U.S. the right to unilateral, "preventive" war against nations perceived as fomenting threats against us. Her answer committing us to defend Georgia or the Ukraine against Russia was almost as bad, and the way she spelled out what NATO membership means, by rote, you could see the quickly crammed index cards in the back of her brain. She put Israel in charge of our Iran policy. John McCain should be ashamed of himself. Ashamed, on 9/11, to have picked someone as ignorant and unready to be president as Sarah Palin.

People who like that sort of thing are going to like Palin's interview, a lot. Apparently, there is a constituency of people who want their president to be just like them, who want him or her to be someone they can have a beer with, to be just as clueless and uninformed as they are. But I believe that's a small constituency. I believe that most Americans, most independents, and serious, patriotic conservatives, are going to see this interview and be very, very afraid. Her combative act didn't really work on Gibson; neither did familiarly peppering her sentences with "Charlie." Charlie did not seem charmed.

I think some liberals owe Charles Gibson an apology; he asked decent questions and followed up well; he really couldn't hide some natural human surprise at how poorly prepared -- though well-coached -- Palin seemed to be. But in fact, it's good luck that liberals savaged Gibson for his treatment of Obama in the Democratic debate last February. It will insulate him a bit from GOP attempts to shoot the messenger, which are inevitable.

By

http://www.salon.com/opinion/walsh/?last_story=/opinion/walsh/election_2008/2008/09/12/palin_mccain/

On November 5th, 2008 I want to wake up happy, elated, thrilled.

I want to wake up and know that I was a part of history.

I want to wake up and know that I made enough phone calls, knocked enough doors, and touched enough people's lives.

I want to wake up to a better tomorrow, a future of a new America, and sun shining brighter than I have ever seen.

I want to wake up and be able to smile from ear to ear and be proud of my country for electing our first African-American President.

I want to wake up .................

I know how easy it is to go negative, to try and bash the others, to make this blog and our groups serve as a sounding board for the negative things this campaign has brought out because of the Republican slime, but NOW is the time for URGENCY.

Now is the time we all need to organize for Barack, Joe, and the people of the United States. We need to focus on what we want for our country and for our future. Let's stop focusing on McCain and Palin and focus on the two men who will be our leaders, Barack Obama and Joe BIden.

What are They Thinking?

I remember the last few words of the Palin speech the other night because they hit me hard. I thought to myself and then actually verbalized to my husband, a reformed Republican voting for Obama) that I could not believe Palin has just uttered the words she did. They are as follows:

"Al-Qaeda terrorists still plot to inflict catastrophic harm on America....he's worried that someone won't read them their rights?"

My comment was that no matter who, what, when, where, or why, all people have rights that need to be upheld. John McCain was a prisoner of war, as we all know, and is basing much of his campaign on his POW status. DOes he agree with this? Don't all human beings deserve the right to a fair trial? Or as captives, to be treated humanely?

Come on! Republicans need to wake upform their cultish sleep and actually LISTEN to the words their nominees are saying!

Why I Support Barack Obama

As I read through the blogs I see that many have again lost the focus of this campaign. POSITIVE.

Let us not lose focus. Let us remember why we support Barack Obama. Let us stay positive. Let us have continued HOPE. Let us eagerly await the CHANGEBarack will bring to government.

And most importantly, let us continue finding unregistered voters and sign them up, get Iowa voters to vote early, register teens, support this campaign monitarily, canvass on weekends, make phone calls, plan and attend events, reach out to the undecided, organize fundraising, and be the CHANGE that Barack speaks of in his speeches.

We can not afford to lose our focus in the critical times of the next 60 days.

I support Barack Obama for the following reasons:

HOPE,
INTEGRITY, INTELLIGENCE, JUDGMENT, CHANGE, BELIEVE, INSPIRE, ELOQUENT, CHARISMA, PRESIDENTIAL, FAIR, PASSION, COMPASSION, HUMANITY, HONEST, EMPATHY, CHARACTER,TRUTH

, KNOWLEDGEABLE, URGENCY, NOW, TRUST!

Republican Scare Tactics

Sarah Palin falls right into the Republican fear and scare tactics. Have you been listening to her speech tonight? How can she stand there straight faced and let those words roll over her tongue and out of her mouth?

I give it to her on looking very nice. But, I do not think she is ready to lead this country. And did I hear her using her Down SYndrome son as a way to get voters? I think I did. She said that families with special needs children will have an advocate in the White House. Even if they could win, I do not think she would be an advocate. As Governor she vetoed a bill that would help teenage mothers with monetary support and housing so they could begin their new lives. I am glad her daughter has moms money and name to help her out.

And, running a town of 6000 as mayor? I would like to see her come and run a MIddle School of 1200! Bet that would really throw her for a loop. A town of 6000 and a grassroots organizer. SHe compares them! Okay, there were more than 6000 people organized by Barack Obama.

Barack needs to come back on all of her attacks. He needs to do it right away. He has been campaigning 19 months to her one week.

Do it right now Barack! We must all go get them. Stop the Republicans.

Trash from Thompson

Here is the real low down on the Thompson speech and the truth behind his words.

Let's take a different look at some of the stuff Fred Thompson said in his speech:

1) Palin ran "the largest state in the union." Good point, because we know how much work goes into governing all those vast expanses of unbridled nature. The fact of the matter is there are 19 cities in the country with more people than Alaska.
2) When referencing Obama there are two questions: "Who is this man?" and "Can we trust him with the presidency?" Why doesn't Thompson just call him a Muslim terrorist? The only people who don't know "this man" at this point in time are ignorant, out-of-touch bigots who employ scare tactics as a substitute for blatant racism.
3) Obama is extremely liberal. Thompson definitely should know something about extremism since his ultra-right-wing policies could make Rush Limbaugh blush.

Here we have another example of a Republican, completely out-of-touch with law and order (I couldn't resist), acting like he feels the common man's pain while the Democrats don't have a clue. How many of the people cheering madly for him last night know he has made over a million dollars as a lobbyist? How about that he helped defend convicted felon Scooter Libby who practically committed treason? Yeah, this is a classy guy who we want to take our cues from.

Subject: THE GIFT

Date: Wed, 3 Sep 2008

Every once in a while we are sent a gift....a real gift.

We can do it...Yes We Can

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJTJbqKuDDM

"...As far as I'm concerned, he is a 'Baruch,' which means he is a blessing. He is a blessing to the United States Senate, to America, and to our shared hopes for a better, safer tomorrow for all our families. The gifts that God has given to Barack Obama are as enormous as his future is unlimited.

As his mentor, as his colleague, as his friend, I look forward to helping him reach to the stars, and realize not just the dreams he has for himself, but the dreams we all have for him and our blessed country.".......Lieberman

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

She actually thinks that she will draw away the women who support Barack. She actually thinks that she can hammer a wedge between the now united Democratic party. She actually doesn't even know what the VP does. She is seen on a you tube video actually speaking those words. Sorry McSame. Your choice can not sever this united party.

The Wind Beneath My WIngs

Barack Obama is the wind beneath our wings. He was so presidential last night as he addressed more people nationwide eithr in the stadium or via television. He had more viewers than the final night of American Idol and the Olympics.

Now today John McSame and his little woman VP had a crowd of 12,000 which is just an estimate as the VP was announced. The news commentators said it was "an Obama like crowd". Really? I think Barack draws a heck of a lot more than that! Last night over 80,000 people came to hear his historical speech.

They are trying to knock the wind out from beneath our sails or wings. That will NEVER happen!!!!!

History Made

It gave me goose bumps this evening at 5:30 when the ABC NIghtly News with Charlie Gibson brought us live the vote from Senator Hillary Clinton to disban the usual formal way of reporting each states' delegate count and just unanimously give all delegate votes to Barack Obama. I actually cried as I watched history being made right there in front of me.

Then I once again got goose bumps knowing that I had a huge part in this history making event. For it was Iowa that started this ball rolling with the caucus victory going to Barack. And I did play a huge part in working toward that win.

November 5th I will wake up knowing that I helped to elect the first African American President of the United States of America!!!!!!

Today's Event for Undecided Voters

On this gorgeous August day in Davenport, Iowa Barack came to speak at a town hall forum at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds. We were set up outside under the tall oak trees with sun peaking in and out but mostly out all day!

As I seated people at their designated picnic table I tried to engage them in conversation about the campaign. Most of the people were still undecided prior to the event. But afterward, many had changed their minds. For most of these people it was their first experience listening to Barack speak and also for many it was the first time attending an event. Many of the people asked me if all of the events were so organized, to which I replied, "Yes".

It was very impressive and probably one of the best events I have attended or worked. Barack is so relaxed and speaks from his heart and his mind, his compassion for America and the people who live here. There were good questions asked and he even had one woman who is a small business owner call her undecided husband and he taled with the man! So cool!!! Who else would do something like that? Certainly not McCain! She told Barack about the restaurant her family has owned for many years. He came right back and asked her for the most popular dish. So after describing the Magic Mountain at Ross' he said the next time he is in town he is stopping there and ordering up a Magic Mountain! Soooooo awesome!

Then he walked the rope line to shake hands and greet people. My friend, Karen, and I walked over to the very end of the line almost to where the motorcade was waiting for Barack. When he approached that end of the line he saw me, hugged me, and gave me a little peck on the cheek. He then commented on my hair, which has been bleached to pretty much white with some dark strands below, saying, "You did something different to your hair! I loveit! It is so spunky!" So, I can now be referred to as the girl with the spunky hair! This should make my neice happy since she is the one who does my hair!!

Anyway, it was a gorgeous day, an awesome talk, and a fabulous way to begin my otherwise boring work week!!!

As I left the fairgrounds after helping with the clean-up, I noticed there were some HILLARY supporters sitting along the route with their protest signs. I just wanted to roll down the window and shout, "GIVE IT UP! SHE LOST NOW GET OVER IT!" but I containe dmy composure and headed over the Mighty Mississippi River toward home, Illinois, state of our next President.

Barack Is Back

Barack is back in Davenport, Iowa tomorrow and I am fortunate enough to have been chosen as a volunteer to work the event.

It will be a small town hall event that is focusing on undecided Iowa voters and those who have been registered republicans that have also voted democrat in the past. We are expecting approximately 250 people who were specifically invited.

It is supposed to be a high of 78 and sunny so it will be a gorgeous day to be outside listening to Barack inspire new voters for our team.

Tomorrow I hope to get another hug from Barack and this time I am getting a picture of the hug because my friend Karen is also working the event and will have her camera with her!!!!

More after the event tomorrow.

Bobble Head Election

Presidential candidates have perfected the affirming head nod when schmoozing with their party supporters. So the general manager of the Quad City River Bandits, a class A MIdwest League, contracted with Global Promotions to create 2,000 nodding bobbleheads and give them away to the fans attending yesterday's game in Davenport, IA.

The bobbleheads were in the likeness of Senator Barack Obama and Senator John McCain. Each doll was created in 1,000 per each candidate. Fans lines up outside the ballpark on the beautiful river front of the Mississippi, an hour before ticket gates were opened. Their options were the right lane for McCain or the left gate for Obama. Clever, huh!

The first bobblehead to vanish would be declared the winner! It was a landslide!!! The last Obama doll disappeared at 5:15 and 575 McCain dolls were still resting atop the ballpark staircase-turned-voting-booth.

People traveled from near and far to get a collectible bobblehead! And we can HOPE that this is just the beginning of a landslide in November.

Barack Obama last night said he is a supporter of Roe v. Wade. He told the Evangelicals that he believes women do not make the decisions to end a pregnancy casually. I agree with him completely.

McCain bragged about being a 25 year supporter of pro life. No matter what. Rape, pending death of the mother, etc. Complications occur. Mistakes happen.

I do not believe that this should even be a campaign issue. It is my body. No government agency should have the right to tell me what I can or cannot do with MY body.

Elect Barack Obama as our next President!

Iowa's Unofficial Corn Poll

At my recent visit to the Iowa State Fair my family and I participated in the corn kenel poll for the Presidency. That's right, you walked by the booth, they gave you a kernel of corn and you placed it in one of two jars labeled with McCain and Obama.

Of course the 4 of us placed our kernels in the Obama jar. And as it looked at that time, Barack was a full jar and 1/2 ahead of McCain. I sure hope this is true in November!!

A Poem Against War

by Karen Karpowich

Near the band shell are Elms planted
for heroes of a forgotten war.
The trees create a thick canopy.
It’s cool. No grass grows.
A narrow path is pounded out by joggers
who pass never noticing the plaques
filled with names.
A child might say this place is haunted.
I only feel its sadness.
Young men who fought and died
never knowing what it is to live.
I walk here each day.
My pace quickens at its dark center.
Another First Experience

Today I left my home on the Western portion of Illinois to drive 2 1/2 hours to Chicago to participate in a very special, very unique experience that was brought togther by this Obama site.

Quite by chance a few weeks ago someone saw my "Barack's Birthday Bash" listed on this website. The woman who saw the event posting contacted me to see if in fact Barack was going to be in attendance. My reply to her was something like, "Don't I wish!"

Through various email contacts this woman and I finally exchanged cell phone numbers so we coud have a chat. It turns out she, Maria, is a former news anchor who left her job in April to pursue a new endeavor of documentary film making. She and I had a couple of wonderful conversations when she then told me she was traveling to Chicago for a bit of a family vacation and business trip. She wondered if I would be willing to sit in front of her on camera to be a part of her documentary on Barack Obama. She said I was one of the missing links to the completion of the film.

So, thrilled to have been asked and honored to have had so many positive experiences while volunteering for this campaign, I graciously accepted her offer. She knew that I had a dog through our conversations so requested I bring my Obama dog along.

We arrived at the designated meeting place ready to meet Maria, Steve, the camera man and Dan, the sound man. Glad to get out of the car and stretch, my 11 pound Manchester Terrier and I went inside to see what site had been selected to shoot the section I will be a part of in the documentary. Oh, and yes, she does have committed air time for this documentary sometime this fall!

We drove a short distance to a small inner city park, quite a quaint location with only a small amount of neighborhood traffic walking through, and set up for the shoot. Maria asked me some questions pertaining to the campaign, how I became involved, and my opportunities to meet Barack while working in the state of Iowa.

I was with them for a total of to hours. It flew by! But out of this strange occurance meeting online came a meeting in person of four Obama supporters and Maria, a very compassionate and charming woman.

It is so remarkable the relationships that are built by being a part of the Barack Obama campaign!!! I am looking forward to hearing back from Maria as she completes the film and sends me my copy of the entire film. You can be sure that I will make sure to view it on television when I have the information.

PEACE

Now, everybody's looking for a little peace of mind
We're a generation running out of time
There's a bomb, there's a man, there's a gun in his hand, yeah
Well, nobody smiles at strangers, we're scared from birth
Afraid the man's gonna take us for all that we're worth
Strip us of our pride - make a strike from inside
(Come on and tell me)
How long will we be victims of fear
With a man and a gun and the "day after" fear
Jesus, smile down upon your children
Smile down upon your family
Now, even lovers have trouble at hand
What's your preference - where do you stand?
You get uptight about it, gonna fight about it
Gonna fight about love - that makes no sense to me
Wanting independence, separate but equal
Some are here, and others there
One more for the sequel to the heartache
How much more can we take?
(Won't you tell me)
How long will we be victims of fear
With a man and a gun and the "day after" fear
Jesus, smile down upon your children
Smile down upon your family

Where Does Peace Start?

by Judy Puckett

He looked me in the eye
And then he told me his heart
He said I cry like you cry
And I'm afraid of the dark
He said I'd like to put this gun down
And go home today
But it seems
That war won't go away.
He said, I bleed like you bleed
And it tears me apart
I need to know,
Where does peace start?
He said I cry like you cry
As I watch your flag fly
He looked me in the eye
and he told me his heart
And then he said,
Where does peace start?
Peace Prayer

by Richard Burley

I see no point just now, in dreams.
Or vow the sun may shine tomorrow.
Who’s to thank for why it beams?
Who now fills the moon with sorrow?

I cannot see beyond that day’s
sacrifice, our dreams dismay.
Lives we thought we’d never lose,
forever lost...in sky so blue.

The river of terror now overflows.
Jobes’ levy nearly breached.
God’s cold wind of change now blows.
What ancient lesson will He re-teach?

So ask me not of dreams and plans.
They matter not, somehow.
Along with peace, in other lands,
pray for an end, to all wars now.

I have just received information from another mybo friend that her Barack birthdya fundraiser was also cancelled yesterday at the last minute. She had raised $150.00 for the campaign. I had raised over $200.00 for the campaign. Now none of those pldges will be able to be fulfiled unless they had been prior to yesterday. I will not be able to thank those people for their efforts.

Is someone trying to sabbotage this campaign's fundraising events on mybo.com? It appears that way to us.

A Conversation

This evening I had a conversation with a friend about the election. I was donning my summer blue Obama tank that I recently purchased from the Obama store. Although this man is a friend, we have never talked politics.

So he looks at my shirt and asks, "Why Obama?" My reply, Why not?"

He then aske dme to seriously explain why I supported the Senator from our state. I told him that first of all I liked amny of the things he had accomplished while being our Senator at the state level. I further explained what he did for legal reform so innocent people are not sent to prison, health care for our children, his education interests in early childhood education and college for all interested, just to name a couple of items.

Then he asked me about rural America and farmers, which I had just read up on so gave him a great explanation and told him he could visit the website for further information on all of the issues and Barack's stance on them. We discussed women's issues from abortion to domestic abuse and fare wages. And then the real issue came about, the issue of experience. I replied that he definitely had enough experience to lead this country. I added that if McCain were to win we would be encountering an extension of the Bush era and even more hardships for America.

We talked about grassroots organizing and how Barack has been making this election different from the past. I have no idea whether or not I made an impact on him, but I did get him to say he would look at the issues section of this site. I was not shot down by any means. He is exploring his choice.

My Event Removed

I received an email today from the campaign person in charge of monitoring events posted on this site that said my event was removed because it did not have a start tie and a date. BOLOGNA! I had created the virtual BIRTHDAY BASH for BARACK and had asked people to make a donation of any amount having to do with the date Barack was born, 08/04/1961 or his year of age, 47. I was at $198.00 in donations contributed to this event the last time I looked, which was probably Friday. I had emailed all of those who had said they donated and thanked them so much for the contribution to ensuring that our Senator from Illinois was elected.

I was also told that it had been emailed to too many groups and there is a limit of 10 groups to include on events. This is news to me! I receive invites to events where it has been posted in at least 50 groups.

This happened to me once before. I asked for an explanation and received a blah answer.

Today I let off some steam. I thought we were all in this for one important factor and that is to see Barack sworn in as our next POTUS. I am sure they kept the donations that were made! Sorry if I sound a little "bitter" , but what the heck! I have even created events that do not shown up when you search out in a 250 mile radius. Come on here! I am sure Barack has no clue that events are deleted or somehow flagged so they do not show up for people to sign on with them.

i'll continue to support my Senator but seriously, something is wrong when a person tries to help gather donations and is REMOVED! I have been active on this campaign for over a year!!

John McCain

John McCain has made this election a reality show of untruths. He has no answers so he is trying to use Barack and the same old negative politics to deter people from knowing that he really has no vision for the future other than to follow in the GWB shoes before him.

We cannot let Johnny boy continue to play the old politics. He cannot even speak from his heart. HE needs notecards to look at every two seconds. He is too old and old school.

Help register voters who support Barack so we can win this and move forward.
