Oh Happy Day!

Today my two daughters and I were so honored to place our votes for Barack Obama. This was the first day for early voting in Louisiana and boy were we excited. One of my daughters held my 11 month old grandson as she voted and allowed him to touch the screen to place the final vote for Obama. Before leaving, the local newspaper took several pictures of them standing before the computer. What a wonderful day for my family!

I want to thank all of you for your concerns and prayers before and during Hurricane Gustav. My community still looks like a war zone but we are so blessed in that most people's lives were spared. My utilities were restored today and now I can begin the clean-up process. Please continue to pray for the people of Louisiana and please pray that we are not hit again by Ike.

Ya'll are such a great group of people and because of truly good people like you, Barack Obama will be our next president.

Pastor Warren has admitted that John McCain was NOT present for the coin toss last night and he was NOT in the so called "cone of silence" as Warren told us he was. Warren admitted to CNN today that McCain was in route with his secret service until just before he took the stage and he takes McCain at his word when McCain says he didn't listen to any of the questions put to Obama. Warren didn't just mislead us, he lied. McCain wasn't even on the premises. We all KNEW that something wasn't right last night and now we know.

Larry King is asking for questions to ask on tomorrow night's show with Warren so let's give him some questions! Pastor Warren should tell us why he said McCain was back stage when, in fact, he was not.

I think it is time for the return of the big rallies. While Obama is appearing in small High School gyms, McCain's crowds are growing in number. The small forums are fine but so are the big ones. So many more people can be reached at a big rally and I think it gets us "fired up". As an avid supporter, I want to see those long lines of people communing with one another while anxiously awaiting to see our next president.

Rasmussen Poll

I just hung up from my first Rasmussen Poll call. I can't tell you how good it felt when I hit "1" for "strong disapproval of John McCain" and "4" for strong approval of Obama.

I don't put a lot of stock in the polls but I would like to see Obama show a bit better so we wouldn't have to continually listen to the pundits question why he isn't beating McCain in the polls.

I feel an important part of our role in this campaign is to send out emails when we see untrue or unfair news being reported. I believe that it can make a difference when enough people speak out. Along the same lines, I think we should also take the time to email those reporters/pundits/journalists who are speaking the truth. They really should be acknowledged for their good work and encouraged to continue it. We are quick to point out the negative (as we should) but we can point out the positive as well.Below are a few links that show Cafferty, Keith, Rachel, and Andrea really taking up for Obama or telling the truth about McCain and I commend them for it.

Is John McCain losing it?

On Sunday, he said on national television that to solve Social Security "everything's on the table," which of course means raising payroll taxes. On July 7 in Denver he said: "Senator Obama will raise your taxes. I won't."

This isn't a flip-flop. It's a sex-change operation.

He got back to the subject Tuesday in Reno, Nev. Reporters asked about the Sunday tax comments. Mr. McCain replied, "The worst thing you could do is raise people's payroll taxes, my God!" Then he was asked about working with Democrats to fix Social Security, and he repeated, "everything has to be on the table." But how can . . .? Oh never mind.

Yesterday he was in Aurora, Colo., to wit: "On Social Security, he [Sen. Obama] wants to raise Social Security taxes. I am opposed to raising taxes on Social Security. I want to fix the system without raising taxes."

What I'm asking is, does John McCain have the mental focus, the intellectual discipline, to avoid being out-slicked by Barack Obama, if he isn't abandoned by his own voters?

It's not just taxes. Recently the subject came up of Al Gore's assertion that the U.S. could get its energy solely from renewables in 10 years. Sen. McCain said: "If the vice president says it's doable, I believe it's doable." What!!?? In a later interview, Mr. McCain said he hadn't read "all the specifics" of the Gore plan and now, "I don't think it's doable without nuclear power." It just sounds loopy.

"Michelle Obama connects to the modern woman. She has a real woman look to her but is even bigger and better," said Amy Fine Collins, a special correspondent for the magazine. "She has a sleek style that's not overdone. ... She's beautifully dressed without too much fuss. She puts on the dress and goes - and it's always a good dress."

Meanwhile, Fine Collins says Cindy McCain's style is fairly unremarkable. "It's a style people have seen before. It's not going to inspire someone to say, 'I want to look just like that.' Is it true that people who have cell phones only (no landline) are not included in political polls? If so, would this skew the results because of the age-related use of this technology

Poll-takers worry a lot about this. A recent study indicates that polling results aren't yet affected very much. We're not so sure.

The most common kinds of public opinion polls long have been conducted by calling a random sample of residential phones. This was OK when nearly every home had a phone, but in recent years a growing number of people, mostly young adults, have decided to use only a cell phone and do without a separate landline in their home.

It's possible to include cell phones in a poll sample, but it's expensive, difficult and seldom done. That means a growing number of cell-phone-only persons are generally not included, and their opinions are not reflected in the results we commonly see published.

How big a problem is this? A study published in January by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press concluded that results of a poll including cell-only respondents were "virtually identical" to those based only on calls made to landlines. That's reassuring, but we remain skeptical.

Pew commissioned two polls, one in October and one in December of 2007, which together included 2,596 interviews conducted by calls to landlines and 841 interviews conducted by calls to cell phones, using a sample drawn from a national database of cell phone numbers. And of those reached by cell phone, 312 people said their mobile phone is the only one they use.

The researchers reported little difference between the results from the landline-only sample and the larger group of both landline and cell phone users:

Pew: When data from both samples are combined and weighted to match the U.S. population on key demographic measures, the results are virtually identical to those from the landline survey alone. Across more than 100 political and attitudinal questions on the surveys, including cell phone interviews does not change the results by more than two percentage points in the vast majority of comparisons, and in only one comparison is the difference as large as 4 points.

In particular, there is no evidence that the polling in the Democratic and Republican nomination contests is biased by the fact that most polls rely only on landline interviews.
