The Iranian government knew they could easily manipulate the vote count. Voters were to put a number 4 if they wanted to vote for Moussavi or a 44 if they wanted to vote for the beedy eyed dictator. How hard is it to change a 4 to a 44? Does the Iranian government think their people and the rest of the world are stupid? How do we negotiate with these people? Very difficult.

George Bush put us in Iraq with no clear exit strategy or time table. Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld had no plan at all for securing Iraq. Some of our troops have seen three, four even five years in a combat zone. It was ill conceived to think a human could withstand that much combat without breaking down mentally.

We cannot allow our troops to be put in this situation again by inncompetent civilians. If Bush wanted a never ending war then he should have had enough courage to come to the American people and tell them there needs to be a draft. President Obama is faced with the same problem. I hope he has a strict timetable with benchmarks for Afghanistan. If not, he better come up with one.

In my opinion, what Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld did to our troops should qualify as a war crime.

How many more lives would have been lost if these soldiers thought they would be tortured or humiliated after capture? How many would have rather fought to the death instead of surrender? I've been reading about Derivatives and Credit Default Swaps. What a bunch of garbage, Banks trying to be investment houses and Inusrance Companies all in one. Banks are supposed to be the financial backbone of communities. If a bank is too big to fail then their too big period. They need to be broke up into little pieces like they started out and they need to go back to being banks. Banks were originally designed to serve communites with basic products, checking, savings, loans.

One of the Virginia House of Represenitive candidates (R) dropped by to ask for my vote in the upcoming election. He was a nice enough fellow, Army vet, just out from serving in Iraq. I told him that I was a Republican for several years, he asked why I'm not a Republican now, I answered with one word, BUSH. The debate was on. He gave me the Bush exit speech, you know, Bush stayed true to his beliefs, my response, so it doesn't matter if his beliefs turned out to be wrong? We moved onto the torture of POW's, I asked if he had read the Geneva Conventions, yes he said, I asked if he considered sensory deprivation or waterboarding torture, he replied, these people we're holding are the worst of the worst and didn't consider those techniques torture. That was all I needed to hear, I pointed him in the direction of some like minded Republicans at the end of my street and told him to have a nice day.

I really wanted to tell him that we need to do everything in our power to keep his kind out of government.

Having a conversation with my wife this morning, we talked about the Reagan years. I had been reading something about the state of the economy in 1983. Unemployment was 8% at that time as well. I couldn't remember it being that bad but I was going into my last year in the Army and didn't pay much attention to economics. This was a year before my wife and I met and she was working at the Pentagon for the Navy. She remembers Reagan shutting down various agencies of the government but the military was taking up the slack, spending money hand over fist on new weapons systems. I remember all the new stuff the Army was getting as well, M1 tanks, Blackhawk helecopters, Humvees. new uniforms. It was a time when everything the Pentagon asked for they got. I find it ironic that about the time Clinton's terms ended we had just about paid off all that debt from the Reagan years. Yes Republicans, we were in serious debt under Reagan because he didn't want the rich to pay taxes then either. Funny how that theme never changes with Repubs.

I've wondered why he pays so much attention to health care. It dawned on me that we are in the age of the throw away employee. Years ago, companies valued their experienced people more than any other asset. Most large companies paid all the insurance premiums because it was cheap. Now employers look at benefits more than a persons experience. If your reaching an age where you may cost the insurer more money then the company will find a way to swap you out for a newer piece.

Just think about it, how many retirement parties have you been to? I worked at a large bank for 14 years and saw three people retire, four if I count one of the CEO's. How many people did you see discarded like a used piece of equipment? I've seen hundreds.

It's my view that the bank takeover policies of the past twenty five years have done most of the damage to the banking industry.

Hundreds of mid-sized conservative regional banks that served their communities well for generations were swallowed up by so called superbanks. These superbanks sole purpose was to become as big as possible as fast as possible. They were sharks eating everything that would fit in their mouths. It was just a matter of time before they swallowed something they couldn't digest.

If we could rewind the clock twenty five years and still have those smaller regional banks then this current calamity would not be taking place. Sure, there may have been a few banks that would have stuck their necks out on these securities but the impact would have been far less.

It's very simple, the same people that were charged with preventing 9/11 are charged with preventing another attack. Those people are the CIA, FBI, NSA, Homeland Security, INS, local law enforcement and the military. All the cowboy rhetoric will not help these people do their jobs.

Also, if we need to have prisoners tortured to protect us then I don't want to be protected. Torture is not a moral value that most Americans believe in.

For almost fifty years I considered myself a conservative Republican. That's very hard for me to say but it's a fact. In the last thirty years I have seen things I never thought I would see.

The wealthiest people in this country becoming wealthier while other Americans loose everything.

The Geneva Conventions disgarded like a piece of used tissue. Prisoners of War being treated like animals and tortured at the hands of Americans.

A sovereign country invaded by our military, armed with made up intelligence of chemical and biological weapons, so a son could have vengence for his father. Intelligence that at one time was accurate because we gave chemical weapons to Iraq to use on Iran, weapons that were also used on the Kurds, thanks to Senior Bush and Rumsfeld.

There is one group of people in this country that bare the responsibility for these actions, the Republican Party is responsible for most of the damage that has been done to this country over the past thirty years.

I don't know how long I have left on this planet but I will dedicate the remainder of my life to God and the fight against the Republican Party ideals.

The proof of Republicans inabilities are very easy to see. Republicans have failed on three major fronts.

The war in Iraq is the most glaring failure. Tens of thousands killed and injured as well as hundreds of billions of dollars wasted. At what cost did we get rid of Sadaam? The Republicans didn't concentrate on al Qaeda thus Afghanistan has seen no real improvement over the past seven years. How many billions of dollars will we need to spend in Afghanistan to fix the problem?

The economy, while the Republicans were worried about fixing their mis-step in Iraq they paid no attention to the economy. Their solution to paying for the war was to hand out massive tax cuts to the wealthiest people in this country. This proves that Republicans are not capable of choosing the right priorities when crisis comes.

Environment, it took almost eight years for the Republican leadership to accept global warming as a fact. How much damage has been done in eight years? Thousands of American jobs going to China and India. Over the same period giving those countries reason to build hundreds of new coal burning power plants. Are we going to be eight years short in turning the tide on global warming? I pray that we are not too late.

It's really not so much the fact that Republicans have so many critical failures, it's that they continue to deny their failures. They will even argue that their failures are successes even when the most uneducated person can clearly see they are failures.

Republicans should look up one word in the dictionary, CREDIBILITY.

My wife works for a small mechanical contractor that only does new construction. The company was started about six years ago with about fourty employees and has grown to three hundred or so.

The owner has had conversations with my wife about the economy and has said they will be fine for the reamainder of 2009 but 2010 is a big question. What immpressed me was his statement that he would stop taking a salary if times got tough. He had no board of directors to tell him this, he made this decision of his own free will. This country needs more leaders like this.

You need to tighten some asses up at the Pentagon. I've just read a report that they have lost track of over 85,000 weapons supplied by tax payers to the Afghan Army. There are also questions about night vision devices that may be unaccounted for. If we're looking at wide spread corruption in the Afghan military then we don't need to be there. We can't afford to be buying weapons that are being handed over to al Qaeda or the Taliban.

Over the past six years the Republicans have been happy to spend hundreds of billions of dollars on Iraq but they throw a fit when money needs to be spent here at home. It makes one think that if we had not wasted that money on Iraq we wouldn't be talking about a stimulus package.

Although they did nothing to solve the problem when it started. Republicans recognize that the mortgage and housing bust caused this economic calamity.

If the stimulus package is going to work, it must address the mortgage crisis head on. I think the 4% interest rate would slow the flood of foreclosures and give people some breathing room. At the moment the housing crisis is stopping many people from making a move to other parts of the country where there are jobs. People are trapped, they cannot walk away from their homes and ruin their credit but they cannot sell their home in this economy. Many families will be forced to seperate to enable one spouse to move to another city for work. Fixing the housing crisis should be at the top of the priority list. Keeping families together and in their homes is the right thing to do.
