"Bush History" is History, 1/21

"Bush History" is history. As promised no more Bush on-this-date postings after the Inauguration. Bush is gone and so are these posts. Thanks to all who read, and to all who responded. I appreciated the thoughful responses, even from the Bush defenders. I was not so crazy about those of you who weakened your own arguments with the kindergarten playground-level name calling. Discussing different viewpoints is good for democracy, not bad for it. There really is no need for being insulting.

I hope that some of the Bush supporters took a serious inward look at themselves, and considered if they were really standing up for what is best for our nation, or were merely defending Bush because of his party. I just can't see, for example, how aiding bin Laden in tearing down the best principles of our founding fathers is something worth defending. The nation, our Constiution, our proud principles must always come before party. I hope that those who supported Obama will make the same choice, to stand up for the nation over their party, if by some implausible miracle Obama proves equally as bad.

So thanks for stopping by for these posts. Don't forget the special 'good-bye Bush' good buy at the Poor George website...

http://poorgeorgesalmanac.com/?p=1469

Bush History: A Hero is Born, A Disgrace Takes Office, & the Brave Die Needlessly-1/17

On this date: a national hero is born in Boston (1706) and a national disgrace first takes public office, in Texas (1995). Also, a grim death milestone is set in Iraq (2004), while a 2007 report reveals Bush admin arrogant miscalculation, which could easily have resulted in some of those lost lives. In 2008 Bush gives a man who is no friend of democracy high praise.

More details, from the 2009 Bush Blunder Calendar ...
http://poorgeorgesalmanac.com/?p=1437

Today's category: Failing the Troops, Foreign Policy Foul Ups, Grim Milestones, Hypocrisy, Ignoring Experts, Iraq

A letter draws attention to the fact that the Bush admin. has been working hard, going all out, pulling all the stops to promote the interests of the likes of Enron (2002). This was, of course, prior to all the criminal charges against the now defunct company, but after 'Kenny Boy' and other Enron interests had oh-so-generously lined the Bush campaign's pockets. Also, a bloody day in Iraq (2007).

More details, from the 2009 Bush Blunder Calendar ...
http://poorgeorgesalmanac.com/?p=1429

Today's category: Bushisms, Iraq, The Corporation's Yes Man

365 Reasons to Celebrate the Obama administration - New Bush blunders daily

Bush takes a hit for his pretend-cowboy persona from a prominent GOPer on this date in 2000 (with related yee-haw Bushisms). Also, a Bush campaign promise is made on respecting science, a promise soon to be broken (2000). In 2007 we find the president finally admitting to some of his oh-so-obvious Iraq failures, and in 2008 we have a Bush failure on inflation.

More details, from the 2009 Bush Blunder Calendar ...
http://poorgeorgesalmanac.com/?p=1422

Today's category: Bushisms, Dishonesty, Incompetence, Iraq

365 Reasons to Celebrate the Obama administration - New Bush blunders daily

Bush's infamous pretzel incident occurred on this date in 2002. In the news in 2007, blow back from an angry FBI agent: Bush's Justice Dept seems to prioritize protecting corrupt GOPers over putting criminals in jail. And a related Bushism. Also, a report (2008) on your tax dollars flowing to Iraqi Sheiks. There's a lot of things we can't afford here at home, but we can apparently spend millions to 'reward' the men who used to blow up our soldiers in Baghdad.

More details, from the 2009 Bush Blunder Calendar ...
http://poorgeorgesalmanac.com/?p=1386

Today's category: Bushisms, Deficit Mismanagement, Iraq

365 Reasons to Celebrate the Obama administration - New Bush blunders daily

Bush History-Bush's "Support"for the Troops: No Wonder the GOP Runs from Bush

Bush's "key piece of evidence" on WMDs is publicly shot down on this date (2003), though that doesn't stop Bush from continuing to use it to sell us on his war. Also, some ways that Bush 'supported' the troops in 2007 are reviewed (2008). Given this and other Bush actions it's little wonder that prominent GOPers are running from the Bush record (2008).

More details, from the 2009 Bush Blunder Calendar ...
http://poorgeorgesalmanac.com/?p=1375

Today's category: Bushisms, Dishonesty, Failing the Troops, Iraq, Revolt of the GOP & Insiders

365 Reasons to Celebrate the Obama administration - New Bush blunders daily

Bush History-Bribing the Press, & Ditching the Evidence on Warming, 1/8

A 2005 reminder of war's innocent victims as the US admits to a 500 pound bomb dropped on the wrong house, killing 14 Iraqis. Also in 2005, blow back when the Bush admin is caught using taxpayer funds to undermine the key democratic value of a free press. Finally, Bush can't stop warming but he can help those who want to pretend it doesn't exist (2007).

More details, from the 2009 Bush Blunder Calendar ...
http://poorgeorgesalmanac.com/?p=1359

Today's category: Bushisms, Global Warming Denial, Human Rights/Human Wrongs, Iraq, Manipulating Research

365 Reasons to Celebrate the Obama administration - New Bush blunders daily

Bush History-Bush Brags About His Immoral Fiscal Irresponsibility, 1/7

President Bush brags about his administration's immoral fiscal irresponsibility on this date (2006). Bush's policies, aided by a willing GOP Congress, combined significant spending increases with unaffordable tax cuts tilted toward the wealthy. The result: a huge tax bill, with interest, to be passed on to our kids. And a related Bushism.

More details, from the 2009 Bush Blunder Calendar ...
http://poorgeorgesalmanac.com/?p=1352

Today's category: Bushisms, Deficit Mismanagement

365 Reasons to Celebrate the Obama administration - New Bush blunders daily

Bush History-Prominent GOPer & Military Expert Blasts Bush Admin Iraq Failures, 1/5

Some signs on this date of Bush giving up his failed 'stay the course' Iraq policy (2007). A prominent GOP military expert has blasted Bush Iraq failures, admitting to surprise at such incompetence. Also connections win out over experience in a key homeland security post(2006). Is experience really necessary? It's only Homeland Security. And another good date for Bushisms.

More details, from the 2009 Bush Blunder Calendar ...
http://poorgeorgesalmanac.com/?p=1341

Today's category: Bushisms, Corruption/Conflicts of Interest, Incompetence, Iraq

365 Reasons to Celebrate the Obama administration - New Bush blunders daily
--

Bush History-A Tale of Two Appointees: One Does Us Proud, One Does Not, 1/4

A tale of two appointees: A political appointee in the news on this date (2007) wants to turn a medical paper into a doc praising the Bush administration. Surgeon General Carmona refuses. Also, in 2008 Bush reappoints a Mine Safety head with a sad safety record, over Senate objections. Mine safety be damned, apparently. And it's a good date for Bushisms (2001 and 2008).

More details, from the 2009 Bush Blunder Calendar ...
http://poorgeorgesalmanac.com/?p=1333

Today's category: Bushisms, Harpooning Healthcare, Incompetence, Revolt of the GOP & Insiders

365 Reasons to Celebrate the Obama administration - New Bush blunders daily
--

In 2006 we find Bush pleading for renewal of the Patriot Act, saying that our Constitution would not be violated as "There's oversight on this important program".

On this date, reports hit the news (2006) that the CIA had pre-war info that indicated Saddam might well have given up nuke work.

Also, in 2008 15 fed-up states sue Bush's EPA when they are prohibited from setting tougher than Bush auto standards, to fight global warming. In an effort to keep its motives secret the White House engages in some duct tape censorship.

And a related Bushism.

More details, from the 2009 Bush Blunder Calendar ...
http://poorgeorgesalmanac.com/?p=1313

Today's category: Bushisms, Global Warming Denial, Iraq, The Corporation's Yes Man

365 Reasons to Celebrate the Obama administration - New Bush blunders daily

Bush History-A Grim New Year's Eve Iraq Milestone & a NY Times Wish Come True? 12/31

A grim milestone on this New Year's eve in 2006, as the US notes 3,000 dead in Iraq. Also, in light of the historic election of 2008, it's worth reading this excerpt from last year's New York Times; it's a moving wish for the new year (2007). Finally, a bushel of Bushisms, and a very nice, very relevant New Year's message from "the first American", Benjamin Franklin.

More details, from the 2009 Bush Blunder Calendar ...
http://poorgeorgesalmanac.com/?p=1297

Today's category: Bushisms, Iraq

365 Reasons to Celebrate the Obama administration - New Bush blunders daily

Bush History - In '57 We Called it Torture and Said it Didn't Work. In '02 We Started Doing it - 12/30

In '57 the US determined Chinese techniques we called "torture" had obtained false confessions. On this date in '02, the US is training soldiers to use these discredited techniques at Gitmo. Also, a Special Council is announced to investigate Bush admin betrayal of the CIA (2003), and Bush gives the finger to science and Congress via a signing statement (2005).

More details, from the 2009 Bush Blunder Calendar ...
http://poorgeorgesalmanac.com/?p=1290

Today's category: Betraying the CIA, Constitutional Abuse, Human Rights/Human Wrongs

365 Reasons to Celebrate the Obama administration - New Bush blunders daily
--

Bush's appointment on this date (2003) of a long time ally is short-lived; he is fired, apparently for doing too good a job of ferreting out incompetence at Homeland Security. Protect the nation yes, but not if it means embarrassing Mr Bush!
Bush History-NeoCon: WMD Findings were Irrelevent All Along to War Decision? - 12/18

A Bush neo-con has admitted that Bush said on this date in 2002 that war with Iraq was "inevitable", even though WMD inspectors had yet to report their findings. Evidence on the ground mattered little, it seems. Also on this date, happy talk from Bush & Cheney about Iraq, while anarchy reigned there. Also, Bush passes the buck, and a Bushism.

http://poorgeorgesalmanac.com/?p=1184

Today's category: Betraying the CIA, Corruption/Conflicts of Interest, Human Rights/Human Wrongs, Hypocrisy

365 Reasons to Celebrate the Obama administration - New Bush blunders daily

Typical Bush: In mid-December 2005 the White House exerts pressure on NASA to "better control" a scientist reporting scientific data on warming. We don't want to offend poor Exxon, after all.
Bush History-Republican Senator Slams ’stay the course’ Bush Policy 12/7

A Republican senator slams President Bush's 'stay the course' Iraq policy on this date, calling it "absurd. It may even be criminal". Also a "superb" Seattle prosecutor is let go by the Bush Justice Department; he says he heard the administration was upset that he didn't aggressively pursue legal action against Democrats. Also, a couple of related Bushisms.

http://poorgeorgesalmanac.com/?p=1036

Today's category: Betraying Justice, Bushisms, Iraq

365 Reasons to Celebrate the Obama administration - New Bush blunders daily

Bush History-Bush Sabotage of Civil Rights Board Stops 2004 Ohio Vote Investigation 12/6

Remember how the 2004 presidential vote came down to Ohio? On this date a highly unethical Bush administration maneuver insured that a civil rights investigation of the Ohio vote would not happen. Also on this date, Bush's press secretary said that even Bush balked at a 2nd round of tax cuts for the rich, 'til Rove and Cheney pulled him back in. And a deficit snapshot.

http://poorgeorgesalmanac.com/?p=1026

Today's category: Corruption/Conflicts of Interest, Deficit Mismanagement, The Millionaire's Ally

365 Reasons to Celebrate the Obama administration - New Bush blunders daily
--

Illogical Bush Admin Moves Likely Increase the Number of Abortions - Bush History, 11/18

On this date in '06, people react to the illogical Bush appointment of an anti-contraception 'pseudoscience' practicing doctor to head federal family planning efforts, a move that is paralleled in 2008. Strange moves perhaps for the anti-abortion Bush White House, given that this likely increases abortions.
Dishonest, Reprehensible Cheney calls Bush Critics "dishonest and reprehensible" - Bush History, 11/16

Cheney said on this date that claims that the Bush admin misled us on Iraq were "one of the most dishonest and reprehensible charges ever aired in this city". The nerve! (as my mother would say). Read more on how Cheney himself abandonded his responsibility to look at ALL the evidence and instead presented a misleading case to the American people. Also a related Bushism, and the wisdom of Ben F and Harry Truman

http://poorgeorgesalmanac.com/?p=875

Today's category: Bushisms, Dishonesty, Incompetence, Iraq

365 Reasons to Celebrate the Obama administration - New Bush blunders daily

Bush Ignores Intel Officers Pleas to Prioritize Nation's Security over Karl Rove - Bush History, 11/15

On this date President Bush is asked by 16 ex-intel officials to show that the commander-in-chief cares more about national security than protecting Karl Rove. Bush declines. Also, a Bush official says Saddam's WMD and Qaeda connections are real, and the threat of instability in a post Saddam Iraq is highly exaggerated. We now know the exact opposite was true.

http://poorgeorgesalmanac.com/?p=868

Today's category: Betraying the CIA, Dishonesty, Proven Wrong, Revolt of the GOP & Insiders

365 Reasons to Celebrate the Obama administration - New Bush blunders daily
--

GOP Strategy in Flames:"candidate who wins is the candidate who polarizes the right bloc of voters" - Bush History, 11/5

GOP Strategy in Flames:"candidate who wins is the candidate who polarizes the right bloc of voters" - Bush History, 11/5

A Republican strategy down in flames? A GOP operative, who ran a phone jamming scheme executed on this date to harm the NH Dem Senate candidate, says "the candidate who wins is the candidate who polarizes the right bloc of voters". This clearly failed yesterday as did that 2002 benefactor of the GOP phone jamming scheme; Sen John Sununu who was soundly defeated. Also the 'Military Times' says that Rumsfeld "has failed" and "must go"

http://poorgeorgesalmanac.com/?p=807

Today's category: Dishonesty, Incompetence, Iraq, Revolt of the Generals

Bush's Distasteful Boasting, Dismal Poll Numbers, Disgraceful Curiosity & Dung - Bush History, 11/4

A year after boasting about his narrow re-election, the public gives Bush dismal poll numbers: trustworthiness down 13%, most call Iraq a mistake, most say Rove should leave over the CIA betrayal, only 17% think ethics have improved over Clinton, almost 7 in 10 think we are seriously off course. Also, an insider's candid admission on the president's newspaper habits, a special commentary from Chrysler's Lee Iacocca, and 'The George W.

A former Bush insider slams VP Cheney, saying "he'll corrupt the whole country to save it". Top Colin Powell aid Larry Wilkerson explains how Geneva Convention violations and Constitutional abuse flowed from Cheney's office. Also, John Kerry concedes Ohio and the presidency.
Kid Glove Treatment for Walmart after They are Caught Risking Kids Lives - Bush History,11/01

Walmart gets the kid glove treatment after being caught illegally putting kids lives in danger by giving them dangerous work, like using chain saws. The 'penalty' assessed by Bush's labor department looks more like a gift to insure Walmart won't be caught again and won't be fined. Perhaps Walmart's status as a big time GOP donor means that Walmart's needs are more important than keeping kid's safe

http://poorgeorgesalmanac.com/?p=782

Poor George's Almanac: 365 Reasons to Fight Against McBush's 3rd Term!

Today's category: Bushisms, Corruption/Conflicts of Interest, The Corporation's Yes Man

When a Press Conference is not a Press Conference; another FEMA Folly - Bush History,10/23

We have yet another incident on this date of the Bush administration attempting to misuse the media to deceive the public, as FEMA fakes a news conference, with fake reporters posing soft-ball questions. Also, polls show little support amongst Iraqis for US forces, while the Pentagon wastes more of your money, and guess who uses 'the google'?

http://poorgeorgesalmanac.com/?p=721

Poor George's Almanac: 365 Reasons to Fight Against McBush's 3rd Term!

Today's category: Bushisms, Dishonesty, FEMA Follies, Iraq
