Calling for health care reform

Hi All,

     I am posting a link to a thing I wrote about the need for health care reform. The link, because simply posting the article might be too cumbersome for the site. Anyway, I think it might be too long, boring and lacking of any humor. I hope you will read it and let me know what you think, where is might be corrected (or should I just trash it -to recycled waste of course. : )

     I always do my best to verify information that I use. However, because figures cannot lie but liars can figure, statistics are often hard to verify.

     On that note, I am hoping to find solid, verifiable information on the true cost of health insurance premiums paid to private insurers by individual households and by employers (especially small business).

     Sometimes when a link takes up more than one line, the link will not work and must be copied and pasted into ones browser. I hope this one works as is. The Helium site is safe to visit and does not collect any behind the scenes information or put unwanted junk into one’s computer.

Enhanced interrogation? Stop the madness.

Too often politicians spin terms to advance their agendas. Even to the point that, in a country created by the most liberal constitution known in history, the term "liberal" was turned to a nasty word.

     A rose by any other name still smells as sweetly as a rose and calling torture “enhanced interrogation” still is inhumane and remains torture.

     The “enhanced interrogation technique” now known as “water boarding” that was not only permitted but also now known demanded under the Bush/Cheney administration is nothing less than “torture”.

     Politicians in the United States of America, since the time of John F. Kennedy, have learned to buy and sell the mass media. Allowing politicians to misguide the public by spinning words to reduce or increase the “sting” of the word. The current attempt of politicians to rename “torture”, as “enhanced interrogation, is a continuance of the deceptive policy of redefining terminology.

     Other “enhanced interrogation techniques” aside, the water torture now called “water boarding” is without doubt a form of torture. The attempt to define ‘water-boarding’ as ‘enhanced interrogation’ and not as ‘torture’ is purely political. It is an attempt to steer the public from the fact that the United States government under the auspice of the Bush/Cheney administration knowingly committed war crimes.

     Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz (Boston Globe 5-15-2004) probably coins the phrase, “water-boarding” in reference to a form of “water-torture”. Water boarding is, of course, actually a form of surfboarding. A great thing for the spinning of words for politicians, giving a form of water tortures the connotation of a sporting event.

     The United States of America was instrumental in drafting, defining and ratifying the terms of the 1948 documents outlawing wartime crimes. The United States was most adamant in this because of the inhuman treatment suffered by an astronomical amount of brave American soldiers, especially in the World Wars.

     War crimes under the Geneva Convention include, "...willful killing, torture or inhuman treatment (cruel treatment), including biological experiments, willfully causing great suffering or serious injury to body or health." Article 3 of the Geneva Convention extends the articles of the treatise to include those not classified as “prisoners of war”. Hence, the attempted spinning of “war prisoners” to “detainees” will not protect one from committing a war crime.

     The water torture now called "water-boarding" surpasses "inhuman treatment" and "willfully causing great suffering", which is also illegal under the convention standards. Water boarding is nothing less than "torture", if it were not so, it would still be a war crime under the Geneva Conventions.

     Torture is defined as an inflicting of physical punishment which causes someone extreme pain, physical or mental anguish. Water boarding is a water torture that causes extreme pain, physical anguish and mental anguish. Water boarding is a torture.

     Our own Federal Criminal Code defines torture as “the intentional infliction of severe mental pain or suffering,"

     In the United States, that called ‘water-boarding’ has long been considered and defined as “torture. The water torture now called water boarding has been an illegal war activity for many years. John McCain, past Presidential nominee and torture victim during the Vietnam War, said of the water boarding technique that it is a “very exquisite torture”.

     In Vietnam, United States Generals reiterated that water boarding was illegal and they were serious. A U.S. soldier found guilty of water boarding in Vietnam and sent to prison.

     Water boarding has long been considered an illegal wartime crime of torture whereby the United States holds its own accountable. A definition of water boarding as torture that goes back as far as 1901. A United States Army major, in the Spanish/American War, when found guilty of water boarding received a sentence of 10 years at hard labor.

     Only in the past few years has this been an issue. When it leaked that the United States had water boarded “detainees” at Guantanamo. The “spin” began water torture became water boarding, like the sport. Water boarding became an “enhanced interrogation technique” as opposed to the torture that it is.

     It is a hard pill to swallow, the idea of holding, especially before the world, one’s own responsible for such actions. However, this is a very resilient country, one of pride, which should not become a false pride by the subversion of words. To ignore our own morality and ideals, those that we have projected to the World, will be far worse than calling torture what it is, torture.

AIG The biggest heist in History

     I watched the movie version of “Chicago” the other night. Today, I think about this AIG fiasco and remember Richard Gere’s well done rendition of “Razzle Dazzle ’em” in that movie. The sly lawyer as he diverts attention from what is fact to what is emotion. In the instance of this AIG fiasco, diverting attention to bonuses paid executives and away from the truth.

     Any really, really, good swindle or scam uses that “Razzle Dazzle ‘em” rule. One must have a focus of attention somewhere other than upon the fraud itself. The shenanigans at AIG bring to mind a movie called “Paper Moon”.

     Destiny teams a little girl and a middle-aged man up as con artists. The man pays for some items in a story with a large bill. Behind him in line, the little girl pays for something with a small bill. When the girl sees her change, she balks, claiming that she had given the clerk the larger bill. Her distressed cry that the larger bill is a birthday gift with a birthday inscription on it, inciting emotions. Found in the cash drawer is a larger bill with the inscription the girl claims. The girl “earns” the larger bill via her deception.

     AIG is much the same con, right down to the little girl taking the fraud into a simpler swindle. A couple of more obvious short-changing maneuvers to increase her take or maybe just to show off her flair for the con game. In the AIG situation, these would be bonuses unnecessary yet still, bonuses useful in diverting attention toward facts to attention toward emotions.

     It can be a bit more complicated but the primary things that occurred up to and including the bailouts is the same.

     There are many faucets to this fraud. However, the base fraud is a matter of giving a small bill and pretending it is the large bill. The deregulation of laws, which had created borders betwixt Wall Street, the Banks, and the Insurance companies, that allowed great fraud to be committed.

     Long ago and far away, something called “buying on margin” came to be. This entailed a situation whereby a person could post X dollars of collateral and the stock market company would give an equal amount of credit. Thereby, one could have $100.00 in collateral and buy $200.00 in stock. This is termed “leveraging” and was fine when regulations were in place.

     The advent of such things as “options” for “hedging” will greatly increase this leveraging situation to create a “win-win” situation for the smart investor (or better said, “Sly” investor). The stock market always somewhat of a gamble, one could now “bet” that a stock would fall in value and make the big bucks. Even if one did not actually own the actual shares of that stock, one could control hundreds of thousands of dollars in stock with only a few hundreds of marginal dollars.

     Marginal dollars are the big bill that the little girl did not really give the store clerk; it never existed. However, the real big bill, which the store clerk gave back to the little girl, did exist. In effect, it was money used to “bail out” the clerk and the store due to emotional circumstances.

     One day it hit the news that a company called “Lehman Brothers” had taken the big dive and the world would collapse unless the government did not step in to help. The sky was falling, as it were. The big cats including the FED knew that Lehman would collapse if someone did not purchase it (and revise the books) or the FED did not step in with help. The stack of cards to build the house was going to come down.

     The FED knew long before Lehman Brothers failed that it would happen. Instead of bracing (or bailing out) Lehman Brothers, the Fed let Lehman Brothers fail. The auspice incongruously put out that Lehman would fall by itself and create only a pothole on Wall Street. This is incongruent because anyone familiar with the system would know that Lehman would take others with it.

    Lehman failed and AIG became responsible for the billions in insurance it sold against such a failure. The government fooled to step in with billions and no oversight. The insurance that AIG had sold and could not cover, billions in insurance to protect investors that they not lose their investment AND not lose the monies that did not exist; stocks and options bought on MARGIN. What a quandary, what a great fraud is the scam perpetrated on an unsuspecting people.

     AIG had insured billions of dollars that did not exist. Until the FED marched in and turned those dollars into real cash, the clerk handing the poor little child her take and her bonus for her short change game. The executives earned those bonuses because they pulled the biggest heist in history. In addition, they are taking the people’s eye off the proverbial ball and probably giving AIG plenty of time for a probable shredding enterprise.

     Find the insured and one will find the trail of fraud or one can play with the millions in bonuses and ignore the billions in fraud.

It is without doubt that many Obama supporters will become discouraged as he takes office.

I hope we can all look at things which take place from an objective perspective and not become discouraged if anything takes place which we find disagreeable. Selections for his cabinet and such.

For me, Barack Obama has shown remarkable integrity honesty in his political career. This is something hard to do in politics and, for me, it is having someone that I trust. He may not always do as I would like, but as in his past, his explanations of things I know will be honest.

Impeachment NOW

Hi all, it is not over 'til it's over. George Bush is preparing to enact 90 resolutions which will be hard for Obama to clear when he gets into office.

I am sending the following email to Nancy Pelosi, House Speaker and the one who can begin impeachment proceedings. It would be a shame if these two criminals are allowed to leave office with some bogus honorable history.

Dear Honorable Nancy Pelosi,

     With all due respect to your position, intelligence and patriotism. Yet it still escapes me why the legislation to impeach Dick Cheney and George Bush was sent to committee. At least this is what happened to the best of my knowledge.

     I assumed that it was a bad time to be impeaching the executive branch of our government. The controversy would be a bad idea during the campaign of our President Elect, Barack Obama.

     I ask of you, with my heart, mind and soul, to bring impeachment proceedings forward at this time. It would be a shame on this country and this governmental system if Bush and Cheney were allowed to leave office with honor after what they have done to this country and the Constitution.

     I firmly believe that without any political shenanigans, these two will be impeached the mere fact that both are sworn to uphold the Constitution and blatantly threatened military action against other sovereign nations is itself enough for impeachment.

     The founding fathers knew well the possibility of an executive branch, which put military force above diplomatic maneuvers.

     It is also inferred if not out and out written that the Presidents State of the Union address is to be of facts, not to be filled with inferences or out-and-out lies to the people of this country in effort to sway public political opinion.

     It is also without doubt that the President and vice-President used a minimum of three deceptions, which were known by them to have other, countermanding information, which they hide from view.

     It is imperative that bipartisan politics be put aside and honesty, integrity, common sense and intelligence be reinserted into a terribly politicized and polarized Congress.

     Please, do the right thing and impeach the men that their legacy is not left to blot the future governing of this great country.

Prejudice and Obama

For me, the election of Barack Obama is really the election of the true American Way. "Honesty and integrity, compassion and empathy for others, intelligence and common sense, and above all Hope married to the Understanding that none of these comes in any color, shade or hue.

     That though unfair prejudice exists, it comes in all colors and is not existant in the majority of people in the United States of America. The United States did not elect a gender or a color, the United States elected a way of life which is the true heart of the people.

     I have long known that the labeling of the United States as the most racist country in the world was untrue. I have been too many places and known to many people of ethnic diversity to believe such media hype. One prominent Italian, speaking of a restaurant and a black worker said this was not authentic because, "You see, There are no blacks in Italy". In Mexico, people are judged by the darkness or lightness of their skin by the masses themselves. There are many more examples of much unfair prejudice around the globe.

     Unfair prejudice does not come in White, it comes in many, many colors.
     That the minority classes helped put Barack Obama into the Oval office is not to be denied. However, it is the mainstream White majority who really put him into office. Proving once and for all that the racism which media sensationalist like to hype for ratings does not really, in fact abound.

     Poverty and being poor, also do not come in colors. "Affirmative action" should be geared toward the needy, not meated by color. Advancement should always be for merit, not for color. For the Christian, this can be seen in a phrase that, "It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to get to heaven". Meaning that with great wealth comes great responsibilities and a greater temptation for selfishness above charity.

     Barack Obama is President Elect and I am so very, very proud of my country.

     Election Day is upon us, then we can go back to regular commercials on television.
     Congratulations, it appears that everyone's hard work will surely "pay-off".

    Unfortunately, one major problem remains unaddressed and appears to be worse this year, more widespread, than the 2004 election. Vote Fraud. Not, mind you, voter fraud, but computer dysfunction, hacking, and even built in "flip" voting.

     Do we remember the 2004 election? All the networks declared John Kerry the winner, except Fox News. As the very important Florida votes came in, Fox News declared George Bush the winner. The other networks checked their own figures and "gosh darn" George Bush was the winner. How did that happen, all the other networks somehow had the wrong figures, or more exactly, suddenly those figures "flipped".

     Later, December 2004, a man named Clint Curtis testified under oath before the House Judiciary Committee on vote fraud.

     Mr. Curtis testified that he worked for Yang Enterprises Incorporated (which proudly proclaims on its site, "To provide high quality engineering and computer services for both the government and private industries"). Clint Curtis testified under oath that he was approached to create and did create a program that would “flip” a percentage of the votes to the other candidate. I hope you will click the link and watch the full video (from a movie insert but apparently the true testimony)

     The House Judiciary Committee did find vote "flipping" in the Presidential election of 2004. One "hint" of this happening is the flicker on the screen. The program which Curtis mentions, however, does not "flip" as the individual votes, a person flips a specific percentage of the votes after the voting is finished. Did the 2004 Florida vote “flip” at the last minute? We the People should be very worried.

     Already, some machines are showing flickers, many called “over or under sensitive screen problems etc. This is not some programmer or screen-maker error. This could easily be resolved in programming, why was it not done. We like to believe in honesty, especially in the election process, however, it is just no longer feasible to believe this.

     Like it or not, we need to take back our country, "change from the ground-upward" as we have been told. Our politicians will do nothing to address this problem but "We the People" will, in order to KEEP this more perfect Union more perfect!

     Election Day, Tuesday November 4, 2008, I plan to go to my appointed voting place, vote and stay there, all day if I must.

     I will take with me a large cardboard box having a hole cut in the top. I will take thousands of slips of scratch paper and a gang of pencils. Staying at least 25 feet from the building entrance, I will ask voters to please write "M" or "McCain or "O" or "Obama" on a slip and put it, unseen, into the box.

     Explaining that this is an anonymous gathering of the votes to check with the computer totals at this precinct to make sure there is no large difference between the ballots cast inside and the intended receiver of that individual vote. The ballot is the private business of the individual voter but the total of votes cast and for whom is important to keep the system honest.

     I will wear no campaign materials, this is not for campaigning, supporters are to take the day off, says Obama. You deserve that.

     This situation, however, demands our time. We are doing this for the honesty of this election and the protection of future elections in this country. If the other candidate wins in our individual districts, one need not be happy but we know that we are able to accept what comes.

     We are much stronger than to tamper with the paper trail we are creating in our individual districts. Tampering, with our own totals, will only do us harm and is out of the question. This is for the future voting rights of all Americans.

     I am inviting anyone to volunteer for this with me. Regardless of political affiliation, color, creed, etc. This is for the nation at large, not for our individual egos. Wherever you live, gather and do your individual precincts.

     I hope you will join me in this. Some may scoff at me but I do not care, this very Democracy deserves my time. Be it alone all day, I wholly plan to do this.
     I hope that you will do the same at your precincts. We have come too far to trust this election to others. Nobody will watch out for us, We must take action. If the results are true, then great. If the results are incorrect and we have done nothing, we get what we get, like it or not.

Hi All,

     What a long and sometime tumultuous ride we have had! I am so proud of this country because of fellow people like you. We are America.

     Of course, it is not over yet. I figure that I cannot just sit home and not vote on Tuesday, because I think it is going to be a "win". Lol I know that I have to keep on others to keep them motivated to go out and vote, for sure. One way is to offer rides to others, especially the elderly, but anyone.

     Frankly, an admittance, me bad, I know that there have been voting days when I just had to force myself to go out and vote because I just plain didn't feel like driving to the polling place. What always forced me to go is that I know if I do not vote, then I have nothing to say about the outcome. Now, we have to contend with gas prices so I will have to fill my tank (which I can surely not afford) and offer to drive others to the polls.

     Nevertheless, I see a greater problem here. I am most worried about voter fraud. Computers with too sensitive touch screens (this has to be rigged, as there are too many 'double check's which can be programmed which have not been). From the 2004 gaffs to next Tuesday's vote, I am afraid and I am sure I have a right to be.

     I believe everyone should be afraid, after what we have seen in the past few elections. One county with around 500 registered voters allegedly posted around 5000 votes for George Bush! There should never be a ballot without a paper trail; this is just plain sense.

     I am now thinking (do not laugh, I do that sometimes) that I might take a box or a few boxes, a few thousand slips of paper and some pencils to the local polling place. That I would try to sit at the polling place all day and ask voters leaving the booths that they please write, privately, for whom they voted and stick it into the box(s?).

     Later, after the polling is over, I would count those slips and check to see if there is any big difference between my count, my averages, and the election results posted by the voting precinct I was at all day.

     Now, I am wondering, what if this happened at local polling places all across the country. Is it possible, a People’s Paper Trail to keep tabs on the big boys?

     All of you have created and maintained a wondrous grassroots campaign. I will bet you can do the same to make sure this is a clean election.

     Is anyone else interested in such a thing? It does not have to be fancy but it is something we can do to watchdog our election.

Hi All,

     I hope nobody takes offense at this, as no offense is intended.

     There appears to be, still, a great turmoil in some persons that Hillary Clinton is not to be the Democrat’s nominee for the Presidency.

     Disgusted by the Bush/Cheney administration, I joined both the Clinton and the Obama official campaign sites. Better to understand their positions that were so close one could often not see a difference.

     During the primary, at the Obama site, some few would say unkind things about Hillary Clinton. I wrote these off as the uniformed. In the same respect, at Hillary’s site, some few would say unkind things about Barack Obama. I wrote these off as the uniformed.

     Before I continue this, I hope that everyone will understand that there is much more at stake her than who won the Democratic Primary nomination. There is much more at stake then Republican and Democrats.

     One of the things, during the primary, that I often heard at the Hillary Clinton official site is how the Obama campaign was being so unfair to her. I still hear this from those who now claim this as the reason they will not vote for Obama. Not vote at all or vote for another candidate.

     I always asked at the site, as I ask now, when and where did Barack Obama mistreat Hillary Clinton? I have never had an answer to this question, only the accusation itself.

     I hear some females claiming that Obama is anti-woman’s rights. “Where and when is this”, I ask. Nobody could show me, other than the remark of “Hillary your likeable enough”, and God knows what that remark has to do with Hillary as being a male or female. What is being read into these things that the ridiculous media is not reading into them to be sensational and stir discontent?

     I have heard some claim that Hillary is unfairly prejudiced toward blacks. “Where and when is this occurrence?” I have asked. Nobody could show me.

     The whole point here is that the Obama and Clinton platforms are almost exact. Why are some of us demanding one or the other, or even one and a V.P. position for the other?
     On which note; Hillary does not want the V.P. position, though to be asked was nice. Oh, that was all behind closed doors.

     What do you want for your country, your children? Do you really want more of the Bush/Cheney lies and pulling down of this country in the form of John McCain?
     Why are some of you demanding to be divided, and ask yourself if it is your ego or reality of the situation at hand?

    I am sorry but you have had 8 years of a person bent on dividing this country that he might conquer this country and defeat its Constitution.

    If we do not start putting our petty, YES PETTY, differences aside and come together, we will get what we deserve.

     A young man stepped up to the podium at the 2004 Democrat's National Convention to give a speech. A riveting speech it was. He touched the heart, the mind and the soul as he spoke of the civil rights of all Americans. About the need to take back our government, to change the way government operates and make it transparent to the people once more.

     That we ARE one nation and should refuse those who would tear us apart for their own political gain. That we are a diverse nation, Latin’s, Blacks, Whites and every shade in between. Members of various religious creeds, races, and individuals along the vast spectrum of sexuality financial capability. That we are God’s diversity and in our diversity is our true strength. That we are a house divided by political mudslinging and lies. That we must come together as a house united. Not mentioning what we all know, that a house divided can only fall.

     A "Keynote Address" he was giving too, a message of hope for the future, its unarguable truth unheard of in modern politics. I was glued to my seat, listening as this man spoke. Reminding myself that we are so good at coming together for one another in times of tragedy. Knowing that the current Bush/Cheney Administration itself was a tragedy of our proud heritage.

     His speech was in favor of John Kerry and we watched as a group, now indicted for their actions, called the “Swift-boat Veterans” slung heaps of lies and mud upon one honored veteran; and in doing so slung mud upon every veteran in the grand military history of this country. The people we swayed by the mud, untruth and spread of fear which would never come to be. He advocated John Kerry and John Kerry lost the election.

     Giving us four more years of economic decline, military bumbling, an oil consortium growing rich as the rest grew poorer. But for the rich, like Warren Buffet who, upon receiving his $395 million dollar tax break said he didn’t ask for it, he certainly didn’t need it. The other wealthy were not so forthcoming as another four years of feeding the rich at the expense of every hard working American.

     But, the average American was also rewarded with tax breaks. Little did they suspect that they would pay dearly much more than they received. The Bush administration stood tall and proudly demanded that the dollar was strong, the economy on the upswing, as they had for four years prior. No one seemed to pay much attention that the dollar, for seven straight years, had been continually falling on the world market. The world market being the true barometer of a national economy, though the elite like to confuse things with GNP and deficit spending or consumer buying.

     For six years, George Bush replaced “unemployment” with “unemployment rolls”, a smooth move. “The unemployment rolls are down this month”, not mentioning that the unemployment rolls are reduced each month that any unemployed person’s benefits have run-out. They didn’t get jobs, they just were off the rolls. When they did get jobs, it was usually making much less money than they had been.

     Seven, going on eight, years of deceitfulness and blatant lies in government, all allowed by an obviously controlled press. Yes, you can fool all of the people some of the time. Even for eight years running.

     This man who gave that keynote address speech that was so riveting. His name, we know, is Barack Obama.

     I watched him over the years and yes, he fulfills his promises. He acts in a bipartisan manner and even produced the most compelling ethics laws that the State of Illinois has ever seen. In the United States Senate, he began to open the government, in spite of George Bush's disabling of the Freedom of Information Act.

     He recently created a huge stir with his support of the new FISA legislation. Though fulfilling his promise to fight to have the immunity provision removed, it remained in the bill, as expected. The rewrite of this FISA bill itself, reins in Bush's domestic surveillance but allows for International surveillance, so long as an American citizen is not involved in what is espied.

     That the PAA was to expire in August and Bush had already demanded that he would veto another extension, the passing of this bill is necessary. Add the fact that it was known that this bill would pass the Senate with little friction, I must wonder. Why did Barack Obama support it when it would pass with or without his vote? The only answer is that there was an "Old-School" trade-off.

     You see, Obama knew that his support would create a wave of unrest in his supporters but said, "I will take my lumps". What nobody seemed to be watching at the time is that, probably the most important financial and health legislation was also going through the Senate, a Medicare bill that Bush promised to veto.

     A number of Republican's oddly did an about face and approved the new Medicare legislation. John McCain the only Senator absent for the vote (but he has a history of being absent from the Senate floor for his entire career more than any other Senator anyway). Ted Kennedy, recover ing from brain surgery even made an appearance, casting the deciding vote, which made the legislation veto-proof. Hence, I believe that Obama put himself on the line for an "Old-School" trade-off. He is, after all, only a Senator and must work within the system. I think that everyone might understand that.

     I almost forgot the "Change" thing. Yes, "Change" has been used in many campaigns before. However, contrary to what many people claim, Barack Obama defines "Change" if one reads his proposals or listens to his speeches it is all there.

     Open (called now, "transparency") Government is Barack Obama's "Change". A change in how government operates. A reopening of the doors that have been closed as government operates behind them. Promising executive order to reverse many of those Bush put into effect. Like George's lengthening the President Act that the activities of Presidents would not be public knowledge for a full 25 years! Moreover, reversing the executive orders Bush used to disable the Freedom of Information Act. Barack also promises to correct George Bush's extension of the "National Security" classification to include what Cheney had for lunch at a public restaurant. (My joke, me bad.)

     I hope that everyone recognizes that Barack Obama does bring us a new Hope. That the "movement" part of his campaign is the promise to Change the way that a government we have come to mistrust, operates. This from a man whose political history is the "proof in the pudding" that he keeps his word.

     I watch now as the McCain campaign begins to smear tactics. Slinging lies blatantly into the media which devours them like Adam and Eve devoured the Fruit of the Garden. I wonder how many people will be swayed into believing these lies and campaigning spins.

    I hope very few.

It’s another day in politics and watching the McCain campaign ice a smear this great political battle with smear and mud seems a remake of the Bush tactic character assassinations that got him elected twice.

One thing of note is that McCain accused Barack Obama of not visiting our ailing soldiers in the hospital, the fact is that Barack Obama (according to the two Senators who went with him did visit military hospitals while there. To the best of my memory, 4 of them (maybe it was three). He did so without publicity or camera’s, unless some news crews have video footage, which is not to me released.

As we know, the pentagon situation had nothing to do with camera's and publicty and the "gym" visit was a golf game FOR the troops, in Kuwait!

Eating Crow

     Unfortunately, for me, I have to eat crow.
     I have said that the FISA law was to expire in August, hence the passing of this bill.

     It is the Protect America Act, which was originally to expire in February, extended by Congress so a new law could be written, until August.

     The PAA was set to expire. Its expiration would have meant the loss of much intelligence information. I find no stipulation allowing for domestic surveillance in the law. This is where the Bush/Cheney Administration broke Constitutional law (treasonous to their oath of office), domestic surveillance being specifically not allowed in the law.

     None-the-less, Barack did the right thing in voting for it, little choice if one is to be considered strong on National Security. He tried to have the immunity clause removed and failed, expected though unfortunate. Most importantly, he did not lie to the people.

I do not know where to start this writing.
     My support of Barack Obama did stumble a bit with the FISA fiasco, but I investigated before coming to a conclusion. That conclusion being that Barack Obama, and the Democrats in the House of Representatives, did the right thing.

     Yes, it is a sadness that the immunity clause, in spite of Barack Obama’s Senate fight remained in the bill. Nevertheless, the original FISA wiretapping bill would have expired next month and the Bush/Cheney Administration would have had a free hand in spying on anyone, anywhere that they chose.

     We gained in the new FISA bill much more than we lost. That surveillance of the people has always been a possibility, is not outside the Fourth Amendment as some proclaim. The intelligence and common sense and foresight of our founders remain true. National Security has always taken a front seat in Constitutional debate and the bill demands, again, that the Executive Branch go through the courts using a preponderance of evidence that the wiretap is essential. The Constitutional law, which the Bush/Cheney Administration capriciously and criminally broke, is reiterated. Hopefully, the Bush/Cheney Administration will one day face criminal charges. Yes, what they did is a treason to their oath of upholding the Constitution as well as a total disregard for the people of the United States of America.

     It was well known that the bill would pass in the Senate with or without Barack’s vote. Should Obama have taken the easy road and voted, “No”, for a FISA bill that, in essence, had to pass even with the unfortunate circumstances of the immunity clause? I am proud of him for voting for what was necessary and the right thing, rather than take what, for him, would have been politically expedient to his campaign. The man’s honesty and integrity amazes me.

     If we chose to be upset at the immunity clause, find those who penned the law and included that clause. They are the ones accountable. Who they are is what I would very much like to find.

    Now we have the issue of Iraq and Barack. As we have all read his original proposals and taken special interest in his proposal for a withdrawal of troops from Iraq, we know he has not changed his position. That in his proposal, he states emphatically that he will maintain, in Iraq, those troops necessary to guard our new Embassy there.

     That the Bush Administration is working to defeat any future withdrawal puts a lot of strain even on the withdrawal itself, but I believe that Barack Obama, when elected, will have the tenacity, integrity, intelligence and understanding to thwart the moves which the Bush/Cheney Administration, albeit illegally, puts in his path during the remainder of the current Administration.

     We should all be prepared that they fully intend to invade Iran for no good evidence or reason. However, the “spin” is already building to garner the approval of the people.
     I should also mention that I beg everyone to contact his or her legislature, State and Federal, to pass a bill denying the President from using military force of war without Congressional approval, outside of Iraq.

     We, after all, did finish what we started in Iraq, did we not? The original intention being to oust Saddam, mission accomplished. Now, all that is left is the oil and do not ever expect that the greedy energy consortium is going to bring the price down.

     Now, after all of our hard work, let us not see it wasted away. John McCain using the loopholes is attracting huge donations from the big boys with the big money.
     We are each small, but together we are very large.
     I cannot again donate until my monthly check comes. I do however, ask, beg that each of us donate whatever we can and one dollar more, anytime we can.

     I know it is tough with the price of living so high, but it will not get better without Barack Obama. John McCain has the exact financial plan as Bush. Be very afraid because, bit money buys commercials and untruths and often people believe untruths.

As Barack Obama was taking the big hits for voting "Yes" on the FISA bill (which it was known was already going to pass by a huge majority without his vote), nobody seemed to notice the Medicare bill and the number of Republican Senators that jumped ship and voted, "Yes" on it.

Many of us were wiping the tears from our eyes as if maybe Barack Obama had stood us up for a date. When in fact, as Barack is not President yet but we are very aware of his persusive bipartisan influence; the Medicare bill was being passed with a majority vote that George Bush cannot veto.

A huge victory for the people of this country. What happened? We all know the give and take of Washington politics, the behind the doors goings on which Obama says will Change when he is President. But, Obama is not President yet and still apart of the give and take of Washington Politics.

I would venture to gain that the give and take was a trade off on a FISA bill which was going to pass anyway, for a Medicaid bill which wasn't going to pass. A bill which will now help to pave the way for a badly needed Universal Health Care bill.

McCain is getting a free run from the mainline news media. His flop-flopping, humor unbefitting a Presidential candidate and ignorance in the lights of reality are not making headline news. Even gossip and untruth about Obama makes the news!

Group directions and local politics

Hi All,

     There is a question posed to a group at which I am a member. It concerns the group directive, which is, of course, to support Barack Obama in his campaign for the Presidency.

     Apparently, some of the group members are pitching candidates in their local elections, no allowed under the directive.

     My position in such a debate is that, if the candidate is Obama compliant (lol like “Energy compliant”), and the blog poster explains this and the other positions of the local candidate, it should be allowed.

     One of the main things Barack Obama has told us is that this must work from the “bottom upward”. Hence, our local elections will be very telling in the support for our Presidential candidate.

     I hope that everyone will become almost as involved in their local elections as the Presidential election. Democracy should never “trickle down”; it should always rise to the top.

I stole this link from newday4us's blog.

As we all know, John McCain locked himself into the public funding system before he realized that the Republican Primary would be a "walk in the park" for him. Then he could not get out of public funding without explaining a few million dollars in loans and a few million in corporate jet transport through his wife Cindy.

We know that Barack made the right decision going with us, the people of the United States.

Unfortunately, as Barack said, the McCain campaign will have plenty of misleading advertisement from the "527's". More than that, he is recieving huge donations through the loopholes via the RNC.

Barack will be needing donations and lots of them. I have donated and hope to donate more with every monthly check. Now, I decided to open one of those fundraiser spots and hope some of you might help me out to reach that goal. I can't start donating in my own fundraiser thing until my next rather measly but not complaining check.

I hope that I get the links right and I hope some of you all will help me out with my fundraiser thing, though I know that ya'll already donate elsewhere. 5 or 10 dollars is great and will be very much appreciated by me and the campaign.

Hi All,

I have heard from others who are discouraged by false information being passed around about Obama and McCain.
You know, the ones that claim that Obama is an anti-American terrorist Muslim who picks his nose when he thinks nobody is looking.
Moreover, the emails I receive that claim that John McCain is smarter than my gerbil. Lol Just kidding there, but you get the picture.

Here are a few links and things we can do about these nasty emails and sites we find on the web.

There is help at the Obama08 site. A group, which will aid everyone in addressing the slurs and misinformation, spread about Barack. I recommend this group highly.

Here is a link to the Washington post blog for fact checking. This is a blog group and pretty well accomplished, however, it can be slanted as reporters might try but it is hard to maintain a sense of objectivity sometimes. It is not a pretty picture but I always take news services with a grain of salt these days and the Washington Post itself has been known to publish erroneous articles concerning this election.

A bit of humor for today.

One sunny day in 2009 an old man approached the White House from across
Pennsylvania Avenue, where he'd been sitting on a park bench. He spoke to the U.S. Marine standing guard and said, "I would like to go in and meet with President Bush."

The Marine looked at the man and said, "Sir, Mr. Bush is no longer president and no longer resides here."

The old man said, "Okay" and walked away.

The following day, the same man approached the White House and said to the same Marine, "I would like to go in and meet with President Bush."

The Marine again told the man, "Sir, as I said yesterday, Mr. Bush is no longer president and no longer resides here."

The man thanked him and, again, just walked away.

The third day, the same man approached the White House and spoke to the
very same U. S. Marine, saying

"I would like to go in and meet with President Bush."

The Marine, understandably agitated at this point, looked at the man and said,
"Sir, this is the third day in a row you have been here asking to speak
to Mr. Bush. I've told you already that Mr. Bush is no longer the president and no
longer resides here. Don't you understand?"

The old man looked at the Marine and said, "Oh, I understand it.
I just love hearing it."

Hi All,

We should all learn from history. When the very far right Republican Party that was his creation elected George Bush the father, he turned on them, he voted "Yes" to Civil Rights.

The result was a Republican Party of close-minded bigots who turned on him. This turning included many death threats, and death threats in Texas are promises in a land where people keep their promises.

Rather than run, George Bush gave what some consider the most amazing speech of his political career, and that man could give a speech. He called the Party Big-Wigs and Big Money to a meeting and talked to the outraged and angry mob.

The gist of his speech was that when he was in the armed service, he watched black men fight and die next to him. That if these black people could fight and die for this country, they deserved Civil Rights in this country. George Bush walked away from that meeting to thunderous applause.

John McCain is no fool. He must attack Obama's stance of allowing gays to serve openly in the military. He must because these are his trump cards with the huge voting block of the Religious Right.

Bill Clinton tried to allow gays to serve openly in the military. One of his generals had a hissy-fit about it and it changed to a "don't ask, don't tell" policy". It was a little better than the days of Vietnam when our troops were spied followed and spied upon in attempt to catch and criminalize anyone who was gay. A time when some of our most honored and highly decorated soldiers were thrown out of the service, not for sexual misconduct but for the mere fact that they were bisexual or gay.

Strange when one considers that the most famous of military leaders, Alexander the Great, was a homosexual. The homosexuality of Alexander of Mesopotamia is a documented fact, which proves that gays can be the best of soldiers and military leaders. That the Spartans were often homosexual couples because they would fight harder when fighting beside someone they loved.

The point being that gay men and women do not join the army to get a date.

Being gay is not a behavior; it is a natural part of life. It is not a "choice" for most anyway, most hate themselves for being gay and nobody would choose to live life in a closet of self-hatred. I do not think the marines have to worry about being raped by a gay soldier.

Sexuality should not really enter into the picture but as a man has the right to say, "I have a girlfriend back home", or a woman has the right to say, "I have a husband back home", and so does the gay soldier have the right to share his life back home with his comrades in arms. Gay soldiers should not be forced to tell lies to their friends in the service for fear of court martial.

If a gay person chooses to fight for the United States of America, the United States of America should recognize that person's human rights; and the armed services are no exception.

Here is a message I received from John Chamberlain at St.Louis for Obama. I hope you will all take a minute and enter a not on the Obama mypage as this asks. It is a marvelous system of renewable energy.

I just sent this message to the Obama Team regarding America installing a real and feasible 100% renewable energy supply for America on a national scale - i.e. Thermal Solar power (not Solar PV panels), see:

Thermal Solar power plants only take about 2 years to build, and could take care of 100% of America's electricity needs in an area the size of 10% of Federal lands in Nevada. These plants could be dispersed across Western and Southwestern Sunbelt states and create thousands of jobs there too.

As members of the Obama Campaign let's promote 100% renewable energy technologies which really do work like Thermal Solar (and Geothermal) power, not hokey half-way houses like Biodiesel or so-called "Clean Coal" both of which will just do further damage to our planet in different ways. It may not be sensible to put 100% of our energy production into one technology, but clearly Thermal Solar should play a major or majority part in our future energy production.

It has also been pointed out that thermal solar plants usually need access to water supplies (not always accessible in desert areas!), although many types can use closed loop systems which limits the issue.
