After it emerged that Barack's third great-grandfather came from Moneygall, Ireland, I decided to start IrishAmericansForObama.com. If anyone has bright ideas how to move this forward, please contact me. Thanks.

Media Missing The Big Picture

Full stroy at IrishAmericansForObama.com

Yesterday, my attention was drawn to an article in the LA Times by Scott Martelle, titled: "Clinton eyes Obama fundraising threat”. In the fifth paragraph of the article, Mr. Martelle wrote:
"The second quarter ends Saturday, and campaigns routinely jockey in the final days of a reporting period to influence how their reports will be perceived. For instance, if Obama now reports less money raised than Clinton's $27 million that could affect perceptions of his momentum in the race for the Democratic nomination."

Mr. Martelle associates perception of momentum with amount of millions raised (even if it was contributed by 25 millionaires) rather than the number of voters (hundreds of thousands in fact) who have put their money where their mouth is by making donations of even a widow's mite. How could anyone not clearly see the big picture? How could the media so clearly miss the big picture. See, this is the problem with getting used to mediocrity to the point of accepting it as normality. By literally rehashing the old campaign meme of "It’s all about the Money", the author displays the media's inability to catch up with the pace of Obama's change-making. I don't blame them. Washington has a way of turning good people into cynics and skeptics and lovers of the status-quo. But this time can be different. This time, IT'S ALL ABOUT THE PEOPLE.

In a democracy, everyone gets a single vote, regardless of how much money they earn or are able to contribute to a campaign. And I'd like to think that if you truly believe in a candidate and want them to do well, you would support them with whatever you can afford [even a $5]. That's exactly what over a quarter of a million Americans are doing for Senator Obama.

That over 254,000 voters (at time of posting) have so far donated to the Obama campaign, demonstrates an appetite for real change and new leadership in America. David Plouffe writes: "The sheer number of people who own a piece of this campaign proves that we can change the old game of money-for-influence politics."

As Gregory Smith rightly put it, "Change is in the air and I truly believe that that change is Mr. Obama". People have decided to go under the leadership of Senator Obama and they're demonstrating that with their money, because your money represents your time and your sweet. One donor, Amber James said it is harder to get five dollars from a student than it is to collect thousands from a lobyist. But all across the country, students and people of all works of lives are donating their hard-earned 5, 25, 50, 100 dollars and Senator Obama is humbled by their donation.

This is a movement that has never been seen before in the history of American politics and Americans cannot afford to be simply observers on the sidelines.
