The Obama Quilt is on it's way to the Winner

At 3 pm PST today, I took the Obama Quilt to a FedEx office and mailed it off to the winner, Mitzi Greene of Illinois! Thank you all...all the quilters for all you did to contribute to the creation of this heirloom...to the donors who have helped us nearly reach our goal (will be do it by the election) and to the many bloggers who wrote such beautiful, inspiring messages about the quilt, Obama, this election bringing together the fabric of America and weaving it with the threads of hope, love and intelligence. In the future, we can all hope to see the quilt at the Obama Presidential Library...or the White House...where ever Mitzi chooses to donate it (she has said she plans on preserving it and donating it).

peace to all...as Desert Dan would say...love and peace to all.

Obama Quilt Fundraiser

Hello all,

Are you all aware of a new way to raise money for Barack Obama? Nearly 30 women across this country have collaborated to create a stunning, large (king-sized) heirloom to commemorate this election and our candidate. TURNING AMERICA BLUE 2008 quilt is made of 56 blocks done by 28 different women...blocks that represent our mission to get Barack elected, block by US block!! The blocks are also representative of the 50 states, 3 territories, Americans Abroad and Washington DC and they are centered around an incredible block of Barack's silhouette done in cross stitches so tiny, you can hardly see them!

We are actually going to give this quilt away! and to enter the drawing one can donate to the campaign or write a story about the meaning of the quilt. Our dream is to take this quilt to the convention and possibly have Senator Obama sign it, thereby, making it really priceless and a collector's item worthy of a future Presidential Library!

So, come by, take a look at the quilt so far. Please pass on the URL to others who might want to enter this drawing or might want to promote this way to support our candidate!

http://my.barackobama.com/page/outreach/view/maingroup/QUILTERSFOROBAMA

blocks for Barack update

Hi all! I have now 26 of the 56 blocks we need and most of you are mailing yours next week. Three of us, luckily, live in the same town and we are going to work on the sashing at a quilt store on the 20th and the 24th (reserved the workroom). This is going to be a valuable piece of this historic campaign! You all MIGHT want to copy the URL of our fr page in nice large font and see if your local quilt store will post it (along with a little story about our history)...seems like there are fellow quilters who are Obama supporters who would just LOVE this quilt. Maybe Val will give us permission to use her creative poem (if we say, 'one of our members, Val, wrote this) on the blog...here it is:

I Title me posts "SEW SEW Wonderful"
>
> Yes, I meant "SEW"
> That's no typo you see
> Just continue reading
> How happy you'll be.
>
> Today in America
> There's sewing being done
> All in quilt blocks
> And we're having such fun.
>
> This huge Fundraiser's ready
> For all to come see
> This is so much more
> Than a home quilting bee.
>
> Something wonderful has happened
> It's History in the making
> An Obama quilt to celebrate
> May be yours for the taking.
>
> The theme of the quilt
> "Turning America Blue"
> And I know we all dream
> To make this come true.
>
> I'm one who's been sewing
> And proud I am too
> To be part of this fundraiser
> Now how about you?
>
> So now just follow the link
> Bring your wallets along
> Then we can celebrate together
> With a donation and a song.

I think this will really inspire folks to donate (from the blog)...anyone else creative like this? if you share we'll get in on the blog daily. THanks.

Finally got our Group Page

We are so glad to have this group page and share our project with all Obama supporters. We hope you chose to go to our fundraising page and support Obama's campaign with a fun, new and creative drawing. Donate (or follow the directions on the fr page) to our group page and you could be entered in a drawing for this great quilt: TURNING AMERICA BLUE 2008. It's just fabulous! It might go to the convention too. Each square is a star, it is different and made by Obama supporters from around the country. The center square is a fiber arts portrait of Barack. We think of all the ways to donate, ours is one of the most rewarding! Thanks for visiting our page.

email to Rules Committee member

We just emailed G. Shay of the Rules Committee. He is a Clinton backer who favored 50/50 as per his return email to us when we wrote to all the members prior to the meeting. We asked him if he wasn't appalled by H. Ickes ending statements, Clinton campaign's response to the unity compromise and wouldn't he like to now back Barack Obama's campaign. Do we have the email addresses of all the members of the Committee? Although some mailboxes were full and some addresses not accurate before...it might be worth our while to support the members who were willing to compromise and ask them to consider supporting Obama. They should be sick of the grandstanding of Ickes and disappointed in Clinton by now!
