Your Vote Counts!

Hey Everyone! Guess what? Obama is up in the polls, but don't let that sway you from voting! The polls provide a sample of the population that translate to how the WHOLE United States would vote. Your vote is still important and we need every last one of you to come out, let your voice be heard, and make a difference in an election that could change the direction of our country in a most needed positive direction!

Abortion

My father called me the other day and began to tell me a story of a conversation he had with my uncle. My uncle asked why he couldn't vote for a democrat. My dad looked at him and said, "I could vote for a democrat, but theres one issue that comes up why I can't support a democrat: abortion." I had to think about this for awhile, as I was just happy he was choosing an issue to support, instead of superficial ideals about Obama's character or race. However, while thinking about his comments, I realized that him and many othe Americans were missing the big picture of the issues and the direction in while America is heading.

I think it's safe to say that nobody is really for the act of abortion; I don't think that Obama is any more pro-abortion than McCain, however I do believe that Barrack understands the importance to for a woman to be able to make that most difficult decision. Life isn't always perfect, and unthinkable situations arise. I can only sympathize, never empathize with a woman who has been raped, or before pregnent due to incestial acts, or sexual abuse. To take away their options in such devastating cases would be nothing less than criminal (in my opinion).

No one ever speaks much of the ideals of many republicans to move towards abstinence only education, including Palin. The fact of the matter is that sex is going to happen whether you you teach abstinence or not. In my opinion, we want people to be prepared to make good decisions to procect themselves in such situations. Afterall, I don't think it would be safe to say that people are having sex with the intention of getting an abortion; but if people aren't informed on safe sex practices, the occurances of pregnancy will only rise. The irony of the whole issue comes when looking at Palin's daughter. I'm sure that she was only taught abstinence in her home. She's now pregnant and I'm sure she will be fine with the support of her family, but there are many other extreme circumstances that many would like to ignore. Palin's daughter had a choice.

My next comment has no empirical evidence, but I just heard that that the Bush administration would like to put a ban on birth control. So instead of giving people options to practice safe sex, they would like to take those options away as well as the options after there are 100's more pregnancies.

My dad is diabetic, and I'm sure that the potential for cures from stem-cell research more than sparks his interest. However, with a proposal of abortion, does that mean a cease to that program as well? I do believe that there is a certain time-frame in which abortions should be done, however, I also believe in the importance of giving a woman a voice in unthinkable situations.

For those who would argue that abortions violates what they believe is in the bible, I want to remind you that there is a seperation of church and state. That is why, if you believe that it is immoral, you have the choice not to have one. But, in the pluralistic society we live in today, we can't afford to make regulations against people who may have different beliefs than you.

This is the most important election of our country, and we can't afford to ONLY see the issues as they appear on the surface. We need to dig deeper, to find out what direction is best for ALL citizens of a county that freedom is never taken for granted.
