The official Women for Obama web site (www.women.barackobama.com) is adding new content daily, including profiles of supporters, essays from women who have written in to explain what made them decide to be a “woman for Obama”, coverage of events (like the fantastic San Francisco kick off of California Women for Obama last week) and a weekly column from syndicated humorist Lisa Earle McLeod. When you visit the site, be sure to comment on the blog posts, let us know what else you’d like to see there, and take a few minutes to share why you’re a woman for Obama (it won’t be used for a public profile without your permission). My main concern is the hopelessness felt by our inner city brothers and sisters. We have children growing up in situations that foster gang violence, drug trafficking, and a shortage of national pride. Dilapidated school systems augment these conditions even further. Using Senator Obama’s message of hope we can change this.

First, I believe we should start a Peace Core-like governmental program aimed specifically at the inner city. I believe part of the reason for the lack of economic development in these communities is the sense that they are not apart of the larger community. Community members that reach out to help build a business, a playground, or a basketball court will grow in order to help quell the demoralization felt by our inner city brothers and sisters.

Second, we need to reform our welfare program to help people get out of poverty. The current and perpetuating system keeps people on welfare. I believe most welfare participants, if given a realistic means of opportunity, will forgo the actual need of welfare. The shortcomings of the government coupled with their lack of initiative spawns from a sense of distrust rooted in either guilt or anger. The guilt and anger are consequences of how we, as a society, view and treat them as a people. The sooner we see them as fellow human beings in need, the sooner a solution will manifest itself. We need to recognize, as Senator Obama does, that not all Americans have the same opportunities.

Third, to battle the scarcity of national pride felt in these communites, I propose we implement a National Voting Holiday. The number one reason for not voting in this country is the inability to take time off during work hours. This would not only ensure the people with the opportunity to vote, but also cultivate a sense of community on a local level.

Finally, how to pay for all this? A flat tax. A flat tax would enable the government to fund many social programs that are either nonexistent or in need. A Public health service and inner city reconstruction program would have plenty of funding if everyone contributed the same.

In the words of Senator Obama,

“…our communal values, our sense of mutual responsibility and social solidarity, should express themselves not just in church or the mosque or the synagogue; not just on the blocks where we live, in the places where we work, or within our own families; but also through our government.”

hello to all the other suporters of this great man! Its funny I am only a 25 year old female who has lived in Illinois my entire life and I have finally found a cause. A mission. A reason to volunteer my precious time to a Presidential campaign!! No one would have guessed me to be this involved in something so important to our country. But yes, here I am finally involved in something I believe in with all of my heart and soul!
The reason? That answer is simple.....Barack Obama!!!!
Many of my friends and colleges have asked me why they should support Barack Obama. My answer to them is just as simple. He is the only person who has the vision, leadership, intelligence, skill, drive, and hope to take this country where we need to go. And isn't that exactly what we are looking toward? I am. The hope that Barack will be elected and help bring about change so needed and so lacking from our current administration.
So, yes, I am 25 I dont know everything there is to know about pollitics but I do know I am behind Barack. I am volunteering as much as possible. I will help in Illinois. I will be watching on 01/20/2009 when Barack Obama, Michelle Obama and their children stand before America as our new First Family! wouldnt that be the dream people! come on lets all get out there and do something, anything to help this counrty have a good person in office for once!!!

Barack Obama is the answer to the political turmoil currently surrounding the presidential administration and is a candidate that needs to be not only looked at seriously but elected in 2008.

For most of us, polarization and partisan division have characterized our entire political lives. We came of age right as America went into a war it never should have started. The political realities for our generation rest in division, fear and negativity, in the choice of politicians to purposely sidestep the Constitution and violate civil liberties. After seven long years, we must take our country back. Barack Obama is ready to provide this needed leadership.

For yearspeople in not just our generation have been waiting for someone to come along who inspires us!!! We’ve been waiting for a candidate who can reunite our politically fractured country and bring America back to the principles it was founded upon. We’ve been waiting for change, because as Obama said, “That is our unyielding faith that in the face of impossible odds, people who love their country can change it.”

Obama is ready to change America, not just by inspiring young people like me and a lot of you, but by bringing much needed change to the tired ways of Washington. As the only leading candidate who opposed the Iraq War from the start, Obama recognizes that we must refocus the war against terrorism on those who attacked us on 9/11, which means “getting out of Iraq and onto the right battlefield in Afghanistan and Pakistan,” as he said in August.

Obama recognizes the need for change on other fronts as well. With scandals rocking the D.C. establishment, Obama led the fight for open and honest government by helping pass a lobbying and ethics reform bill in January. With one in three young adults without health insurance, compared to one in six Americans overall, Obama’s national health care plan guarantees eligibility for all and allows recent college graduates to remain on their parents insurance until the age of 25 if they cannot find a job and this is one of the issues that grabed my eye as I was reading over his issues for the first time.

Obama leads when it comes to making college affordable. His very first bill introduced in the Senate increased the maximum Pell Grant from $4,050 to $5,100, and he is the cosponsor of the Student Debt Relief Act, which is designed to reform the private lending system.

It is time for change people!!!!!!!! It is time to turn the page on the American story—to write a new chapter. This year, Students for Obama will work hard to fight for that change. We hope to see you tonight at our kickoff meeting at 6 p.m. in 1100 Grainger, where we will be joined by Gus Doyle, the son of Gov. Jim Doyle, who will speak to us about why he supports Obama. We will tell you all about the exciting ways you can get involved on campus and in your state so you can begin to write that chapter—your chapter.

In 2008, hope has a new face. Obama for President.

As Senator Obama's Presidental Campaign begins ramping up their efforts, he and his team are going to need a grassroots support network. Being our senator, it is up to us, his local supporters, to provide a solid foundation that can foster growth throughout the country.
The goal of our group is to coordinate our efforts to best support the Campaign. At this point there are two areas in which to focus our efforts. First, we should encourage people to sign up at his website http://www.barackobama.com/, join his mailing list and create their own accounts. The second effort needs to focus on introducing Senator Obama to those not familiar with his views. We are in the early stages of planning events that will be open to the public where people can learn about Senator Obama and his vision of America.
Join us in promoting Barack Obama for President of the United States of America!
