New McCain video! Spread it around!!!

I am very happy that this video was made, but there is still a lot of work to do. And while I am compiling a packet for my republican family, I will include this video but I will wait to send it to them right away... I feel that I have to tread lightly with them. Its like how Obama is with Hillary, not too much because he doesn't want to piss them off and not have their support in the fall... So I don't want to OD them on all of my Obama knowledge until I have it al together and I can hit them with it all at once instead of a daily email... that's just me.

Here is my response to the video and an update from my family:

Yes the problem is that the MSM is not covering these issues, but the problem also lies in that many Americans simply pick their candidate and then go about their business..... and don't pay attention and only hear sound bites. For example my father thinks the remarks W made in Israel were not about Obama- and that it was a stretch to conclude that.... sigh....(barfgh)

And then its only us the die-hard folk who pay attention to this world everyday, we are up on all the latest breaking news. So when another political conversation took place between myself and my parents this weekend and I mentioned more of these flip flopping moments, they were surprised and didn't really believe me.

And yah know what really got my mom's attention!? When I told her about the time McCain called his wife a trollop and a "c u next tuesday" in front of the press.

She was appalled, still a little in doubt that my source was some how making it up, but she remained appalled and I feel that the seed has been planted.

here is the link to the video on youtube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GEtZlR3zp4c&eurl=http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/05/19/brave-new-films-the-real_n_102403.html

ARGH!!! My McCain loving Mom!!- UPDATED to post to Republican groups

I just invited my Mom to sit on the couch with me and watch Obama talk on CNN- because she needs to learn more about him for herself and not listen to the Men in my family. She shook her head no and said she is not going to vote for him. She likes him, but doesn't like his economic plan. My mouth was hanging open. (this isn't anything new mind you, I've know that this is where my Republican family stands- out to protect their wallets!) and I told her she can't just vote on the economy. I told her that by continuing to be at war the economy is going to suffer! Nope, didn't fly. AHHHHHHH wth!?! I was dumbfounded! But we are going to run some errands together today SO I will try to work on her and at least plant some seeds. But its just so sad! Seriously folks, my entire family is thinking this way about the election... its really depressing. I'm thinking of complying a packet for all of them to read! Maybe I will make it into a pdf that you all can download like the signs. this will compile financial endorsements, like the ones yesterday from the republican party, and other issues and the difference between their voting records! Start posting links or email them to me!

The Fierce Urgency of Now! Holding our Government accountable.

As we approach the next primaries tomorrow, we need to rise above and remain un distracted! This is not just with specific Obama distractions of what his former pastor said, etc in our fight against Hillary for the Democratic Nomination, but the bigger picture with the distractions that keep us from seeing the truth about our current US government.

Although I try to remain postive and not dwell too much on the negative, because I don't want other's actions to weigh me down and distract me from doing good for this campaign and for my country, I am outraged. I am stunned, disgusted and nauseous!

I try not to buy into conspiracy theories either, but there is just too much evidence out there, not to believe that we have been LIED TO!

so here's my own theory-

the sh%# is hitting the fan in Iraq, and news flash it has been since the very beginning. As Obama said- this is a war that never should have been waged. We were dupped into this! Just as we were dupped into voting for Bush, hey I admit it, I voted for him- but only the first time, fool me once shame on you full me twice, shame on me! i'll admit I was young, it was my first GE and Colin Powell had just spoken at my college and I thought- this guy is great! I think Bush is a real dip, but if he surrounds himself with people like Powell, there must be something working up there. I was too naive to know much about Rumsfeld and Chenney!

anyway, THIS IS WHY THEY HATE US!! This is why other countries dislike the USA- we are too self absorbed! I am truly disgusted to be an American, honestly I am saddened. The disgusting part is that the MSM is pushing us to focus on the drama of this election and not on real news!

Remember a month or so back when it was being reported that the coverage on the Iraq war took a real dive in the news? Well then- in response it made a quick little reappearance, only to die once again!

And now the Pentagon propaganda ties that have come up last week on the NY times!?!? Were overshadowed and pushed back into the recesses and instead we focused on Rev Wright's new gaffes! Its disgusting! I am smarter than this!!! I want to be informed!! Cut the crap with Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Oj Simpson, Michael Jackson, Rev Wright! This is what Obama was talking about in his speech "A more Perfect Union!" He was asking us to not be distracted by these sensational gossip moments! We have bigger fish to fry!

So this is what I am proposing!

Like the program "Obama Works" we need to start another like minded movement, that not only demonstrates how we are the change in our communities, but in holding our Government accountable!! And especially Our Media accountable! Its not just Fox news! They take the blunt of it and deservedly so, but my family, who happen to be Republicans and do not watch Fox, have been seriously fooled so far about this war and about McCain!!

Don't get me wrong, I love me some Countdown, but its all gossip, he said she said, true "Bushed" is a good segment, but where is our world news? Must we always be so focused on ourselves? On this election?!? GOOD gawd! Let's be less self centered and focus on what's going on in the world!!! Both the good and the bad!

for example!

http://allafrica.com/stories/200805050165.html

Nigeria: Militants May Suspend Attacks After Obama's Plea

"The MEND command is seriously considering a temporary ceasefire appeal by Senator Barack Obama. Obama is someone we respect and hold in high esteem. The period of halting attacks, we hope, when considered, will afford the Nigerian government the opportunity to address the issues with Henry Okah, including improving his living conditions and having access to a bible which he has requested for but was denied," they said.

So McCain and Hillary, don't give me this crap that Obama is unelectable, that he is green, and too young to have an impact. I truly believe more than ever that he will help our country and he's right, he can't do this on his own, he needs our help! In his speech last night at the JJ dinner, he talked about how Change is a lot of work, it wont be accomplished on day one! Honesty. Thank you Obama for not talking down to me, for not lying to me! For stating something that I am smart enough to realize on my own!

We need to speak up and stop being focused on the gossip of this election! Don't let it distracted you from the US soldiers who are being killed in Iraq! Check out this story about Tillman and how his death was used for Propaganda. Don't let it distract you from the total mess we have made of the Middle east! Don't let it distract you from the thousands of Iraqis we have killed, or helped kill by association!

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/05/05/mary-tillman-the-story-ar_n_100148.html

Its all a facade! The pulling down of the Saddam statue was staged! They flew in the sept 11th flag from the pentagon to hang it on the statue as if they were rein-acting or creating an historic moment!

Enough is enough! Let's stop being such a selfish and self obsessed country! Let's turn of the "reality" tv programs, go for a walk outside, plant a bleeping tree, not consume so much waste and clothing!! Let's redefine our economy, live with less and in turn live MORE!

this is my rant for the day.

I know it is important to be involved as we all are, its important to call and take our country back and not let the media or lobbyists screw up this election. But at the end of the day, when this is all said and done and we have a new president, President Barack Obama in the White House, we have to continue to stay tuned in, not sink back into Apathy and forget about what we have been working for!! We helped get Obama elected and he will continue to hold us accountable as we hold him accountable.

Let's win Big Tomorrow!!!

CALL, CALL, CALL!

The famous song by James Brown played in the background, ‘we’re gonna have a funky good time, we’re gonna take you hiiiiiigher’ at which point Clinton waved her hands in the air. Clinton, who has not danced publicly throughout this campaign, and often makes fun of her singing abilities, briefly let loose. She kicked her legs to the beat of the music and moved her shoulders from side to side.”

Will Bunch’s scathing open letter to Charlie Gibson and George Stephanopoulos on hisDaily News blog following the debate elicited 207 comments.

When an enlightened orator addresses 35,000 Philadelphians on a balmy spring evening, it feels good to be alive.

OBAMA WON PHILLY! take that!

Well Its a lot more low key here today, I think the majority of people are walking around in shock, I mean we knew it would be hard, but the city was so Fired up it was easy to think the rest of the state would agree with us. But as I was walking to class this morning in Center city I came to an intersection where a woman was handing out free metro newspapers, will Hillary's face on the front, and as I reached up to take one she saw my Obama pin, and tapped it with her free hand and said- "Yup, well we still got this!!" that was a nice little moment, I nodded and told her we sure did.

Yeah that's right I am still wearing my PIN! Woot woot, represent!

Honestly how dumb do Nutter and Rendell feel when their city does not agree with their endorsement!?!? Philly went for Obama, by one account by 64% and I'm sure that number will increase as the rest of the numbers come in! We Love you OBAMA! Come back anytime!

Philly is alive with the sound of "OBAMA!"

Hey Hey, my fellow hopemongers! I am elated!!! As I sit here and type this I hear Obama's voice and the YES WE CAN song blasting from speakers on top of an OBAMA car, its truly moving. The first time I heard it I ran to my wind, pulled the blinds up and looked down the 6 stories to the street, I was secretly hoping it was Barack, even though I know he is in Indiana tonight. I had the biggest doppy smile on my face all day whenever I was walking around Philly! We have so much visibilty its INSANE!! ON Broad street, right near City Hall (the building with Penn on top) there was this huge group of people with signs dancing on the median a "Granny for Obama" in a wheel chair- and they were getting honked at like no ones business! Philly is fired up! Then after doing more errands for school, I saw two college kids on their bikes riding down Walnut each with an Obama flag trailing from the back of their bikes. THIS CITY IS FOR OBAMA! No doubt in my mind. So remember, whatever the outcome is tonight, there is a lot of love here, people are excited to be a part of something bigger than themselves, to be held accountable and help make THAT CHANGE!!! I love this! The primary can go on as long as Hillary wants, I don't care, its not going to make a difference, out Guy will win the nomination and then the Presidency, all the while winning more people over with his goodness and honesty and giving each upcoming state the chance to be a part of something so HUGE and HOPEFUL!! love you guys

Getting ready to CANVASS in Philly!

I'm getting for this weekend!

Woot woot!

My friend is traveling my train down from Boston to canvas with me on Saturday! Unfortunately we are unable to go to the Rally here In philly on Friday night- tonight... ; (

Luckily I have already seen Barack in Delaware, so I'm turning my disappointment into a positive and concluding that someone else will be able to go in place!

I made copies of the flyers and posted them and distributed them at my grad school, so hopefully some inquiring minds will go from there!

I'll report back after sat on my canvassing experience. Its a little strange to think back on when I canvassed in Feb in DE. I had to wear a winter coat, gloves and a hat! And now its almost 80 degrees here today, reminds me of what Barack says about campaigning for 15 months- babies have been born and are now walking and talking!!

Crazy business!!

I read a suggestion this morning on the blog to make a video of Hillary and McCain's out-of-touchness, in response to the hooha they are creating about the bitter comments....

It's not my dream version of it, I would love to have actual clips of the Hillary "misspeaking", etc but its a visual photo message that is under 4 mins, so that;s good!

Maybe when I graduate, I'll have more time to make proper videos ; )

here's the link!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEwG-EReGOw

Colbert challenge, raises the goal again... Let's move on to another state!

We should reach our original goal of $150,001 and then move on to Indiana, etc.

The Colbert challenge on Donors choose.org has raised our goal yet again- from $150,001 to $200,001.

We are currently at $148,255, which is FANTASTIC!! But I think its time we moved on to another state that could use our support. So I wrote a letter and here it is:

zwalker@donorschoose.org

To Donors choose. org
I am an active volunteer for the Obama campaign and I have been blogging about this challenge since it began, gaining support and donations from my fellow supporters.I am also a resident of Philadelphia and I appreciate what this challenge has done for our local schools. As you know, Obama receives donations from small donors, who give $10-25 at a time. I am one of those donors. Since money is tight, I am unable to donate my full amount to the Obama campaign and to great school charities such as yours. SO I do what I can and donate a small amount whenever my budget allows.
On that note, although I enjoy the challenge of an increased goal and I understand that the PA primary is still a week away, leaving more time for donating, I would love it if Colbert gave us a new challenge by holding the same program in another upcoming primary state. Indiana has fallen on some hard times and I know that we would love to share the love with the schools in another state.
Please consider this idea to challenge us to a new goal in another state, as OBAMA supporters we WILL step up to this challenge in order to help out students in Indiana and elsewhere.

"Racist!"

ON Friday Night I was walking across the city of Philadelphia with a friend on our way to "First Friday" which is our gallery opening night for seeing art in the city ever month...

I had my HUGE Obama pin on my coat, wearing it LOUD and PROUD... and as I walking this white man, in a preppy/business outfit muttered under his breath as he passed me "Racist!"

Of course I didn't respond, because this was ridiculous!! I "turned the other cheek" ; ) ! I assume that he was referring to the Rev wright..

I have volunteered for this camp in DE, and I have received far worse response to my OBAMA pledge in Delaware- outside a polling location than what I heard yesterday. I just think its silly that people who are let's face it un informed about the issues, about the events- choose to use me, a young adult with a pin- as a speaking board to the campaign.... And I know that's what I am up against when i wear the pin, I'm representing my support of this great Candidate. I get it. And by even writing this log I am using his words to speak to the camp- the community. But I do so for awareness and for healing.

Ultimately this man's response simply reminded me of my twin Brother's arrogant and mis informed reuplican view point about OBAMA. Isn't it amazing that with all the crap with this war- we have seen how this adminstration is LYING to us and how the MSM feeds on this and just perpetuates these lies out of laziness and for a sensationalism that will produce ratings and something to talk about around the water cooler- generating gossip that is empty and false. It also made me realize- these people who are misinformed- are the ones who still think we should stay in Iraq, who don't see ALL of the bad things about the war, and instead only a few... So this is what we are up against essentially... But there are more of us who are informed than those who are not (HOPE)!

This comment this man made also sparked a conversation btwn my friend and I about OBAMA, about Rev Wright, America, 9-11, our standing in the world... and in the end it was a great conversation. By then we were in old city where the galleries were open and I saw more OBAMA love down there, with pins, signs and volunteers talking with the people on the street.

so for perspective- it was just one man, but he does represent people out there- people in my own family. But I could no more disown or dislike that man than I could my own brother! ; )

In closing- and in remembrance of MLK- what we need to do is- LOVE, love these people who are misinformed and help them understand in every small way- how OBAMA is the change our country needs.

Nervous about Canvassing?

I saw a post this morning from one of my Obama friends here on the blog. She is traveling from IL to Indiana to help register voters, she's excited but a little nervous, as most of us were/ are at the beginning.

So I wrote her a message in response- and I decided to make a little blog to share my story with others through this blog.

Here it is:
I saw your post and wanted to respond directly, since I know its hard to find responses since the webpage updates itself all the time!! I think its great that You are traveling to michigan city. When I volunteered in Delaware in Feb- we had people from ALL over, from DC, Philadelphia, NYC, we even had some one from Norway!!!! The presence of these out of towners really pumped everyone up, its a subtle thing but it really adds fuel to the fire! So I know your presence from out of state will do the same! And if you are nervous about canvassing- I'll tell you my story and hopefully that will help... I was nervous too, I had never done anything like this before and in addition we were going into some really sketchy areas in Wilmington De and I wasn't sure how we would be received... Overall we were received very well, nothing really bad, even hillary supporters were fairly nice. And one thing that kept it in perspective for me- was each time I would feel tired (we did this for 2 days straight from 7 am to 8pm!!! in February!) or nervous, I would just look down at my "lit" aka literature and see Obama's face and take a deep breath and push on block after block after block!! Seeing his face allowed me to think of the bigger picture, Obama was sacrificing so much during this campaign and during his presidency- that this was the least I could do to help him out, let alone repay his efforts with my own! I canvassed on Feb 4th and 5th- which was "super Tuesday" and I loved thinking of all the other volunteers out there all over the other 20+ some states that day, knocking on doors for Barack! Its a great feeling to be apart of something so huge and historic. We are definitely shaping a new time in our politics! And the great thing is- after your time is all wrapped up you will come away with the feeling that you walked a day or so in Obama's shoes when he registered voters as a community organizer! You will also come away with a few new friends!!! I still keep in touch with the people I canvassed with a few times a day through OBAMA type emails where we share articles etc. Its an experience you wont forget, and save a flyer for yourself- I think they will be a real piece of History some day! Don't forget to report back! I'll do the same through my blog after I canvas in Philly- with my friends who are coming down from NYC and Boston on April 17th!!
Good luck and have fun!!

OBAMA mural for Philly!

I was inspired by a recent post of some OBAMA murals that have been painted in Brooklyn recently.

I know that Philly has a great Mural arts program and murals are EVERYWHERE! So I was thinking we should paint a mural, or two especially before OBAMA gets here- to get people jazzed up.

So this is what we need:

SPACE - ie- a wall- that is legal and visible, someone donates the side of their house, or store, etc...

PAINT- we could use regualr House paint, donated if people have leftover sitting in their basement (I'm good at mixing!)

BRUSHES- I'm an artist and I could supply the little that I have. But we could jsut buy some big brushes at the hardware store or even at a dollar store!

PEOPLE/ VOLUNTEERS- to help paint the mural!

So contact me and let's get this thing rollin It would be a great Sunday afternoon activity!!

I've already contacted some people through OBAMA WORKS- so let's network so we can get painting!!

(also if you are reading this and you are not in Philadelphia- but are in an upcoming state- start the works for your own mural in your area! Remember you need to have permission for the space so its not considered graffiti!)

I do read some critical articles like we all do, but on the whole I prefer to stay above the fray, spread the truth about policies and not as much about gossip, etc. But I am having a little moment here and I need to vent to my Obama peeps here.

So I'm watching hardball and it must be slow goings in the news world to keep bringin up this idea of a joint ticket!! What are they smoking? Seriously. case closed already aint gonna happen. At least I HOPE NOT!!

I know OBama can't come out and say no to a joint ticket while this race is still on, but by being forced into having Hillary as his V.P. would be political suicide. What the media is not covering is the larger dynamic here. We just saw the polls on revenge voting this week. And what I wrote in an earlier blog- about all this- holds true in this case as well. All the cross overs who are coming from other parties would have a hard time voting for Obama, the candidate that they love, if SHE was on the ticket. In addition- you can forget swaying any more republicans who might have been on the fence- if you put Hillary on the ticket!!! Basically- welcome McCain to the Oval Office if we do.

And why are people giving Dodd and Leahy a hard time for speaking the TRUTH. If you ask me not enough people are coming out and saying that she needs to drop out already. The Clintons can spin it all they want and say that the Obama camp is just fearing the possible win Hillary has bought out of fear and old school politics in Pa next month. but facts are facts ITS OVER.

And here's the thing Hillary- YOU CAN NOT WIN!! SO GET OVER IT!!! Suck it up, have some dignity and some class for a change and think about the real voices of the american people. You bitch and moan about the illegal elections in MI and FL- that their voices need to be heard and yet you keep marching on possibly ruining the Dems chances of winning in the fall BY NOT LISTENING TO THE VOICES!!!!

America has voted!! We WANT OBAMA!!! Enough already.

there have been plenty of years when the election has not gone on this long, and no matter its length at this point. YOU CAN NOT WIN! ITS OVER its O-V-E-R OVER.

And if you try anything dirty (too late, I know...) but if you try anything dirty to over throw his pledged delegates and popular vote- you can count me out. And I know I'm not alone in this. But it means- bye bye democracy. It will prove that the past two F***ed up elections is a serious trend and you will have offically nailed the final nail into the coffin of American democracy.

sorry for the rant, but come on already enough is enough.....

and here are some great articles in case you are running out of stuff to read!

letter from Rev Wright to the TIMES:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/03/27/flashback-wrights-lette_n_93820.html

how NH feels about the Clintons today:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/03/27/flashback-wrights-lette_n_93820.html

and the article from the Rolling Stones: "Clinton's Flimsy case" THIS IS A MUST READ!!! I think this is one of the reasons I am so tuned up!

http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/story/19767182/hillarys_flimsy_case

The NEW Polls

Well some new polls came out last night- that showed some interesting responses to the type of campaigning that has been going on during this past week.

But like the polls from the week before that showed a decline for Obama after the Wright issue and before his speech- I knew that once a new poll was taken AFTER his speech, we would see an increase, the momentum swinging up once again. And we have. On the same token- I know that the polls will continue to dip and surge in the next few weeks leading up to our Primary here in PA.

But I wanted to respond to some of the coverage about these new poll results and what they mean etc, and basically what is not being covered or considered in these findings.

There was talk about how there is a percentage of Clinton supporters who would "revenge" vote in Nov and cast their vote for McCain. They said that there was a same percentage of Obama supporters who would do the same if their candidate was not chosen (but I argue that there are MUCH more on Obama's side and here's why....) However, some of the HRC supporters who I have spoken with- will vote Dem in the end because McCain is too scary and no more Bush (they fail to see the similarities Hillary and McCain/Bush share, ah well... give it time)

What the media failed to realize or at least mention- is that with Obama's wide appeal to not only Repubs and Independents- he has gathered a group of voters who are disenfrancised with their party- the reps, and they want something new. But in the end of the day, as republicans they could not vote for Hillary who has never had a high approval rating with the republican party. So if these change over repubs didn't vote for Hillary in a general it wouldn't necessarily be out of revenge... it would be out of their past with the Clintons etc.. HENCE why HILLARY is No MATCH against McCain!

Speaking as a former republican coming from a very republican family- I know this too be true. They HATE Hillary, its intense and we have seen why this is deserved- over the past months with dishonesty and dirty rovian politics. IN Addition- Obama has a hard enough time with my fiscal republican family- in convincing them that his new taxes wont affect them... So if the Dems want to attract more Republicans who are against the war etc, but might be a little harder to persuade when it comes to their pockets- then they should not sell this election to Hillary.

Anywho- back to the polls....

What these polls fail to consider, or measure- are people such as myself and my fiance- we are registered in DE as Independents and missed the deadline by a day to change our party, since DE's primary was closed we could not vote (so I canvassed for 2 days straight to make my "vote" count through someone else!)

I have never had the desire nor the need to vote in a primary such as this one and I have not really lived in DE for 8 or so years (with college and living abroad, etc...), hence my ignorance on my state's rules...

Now I know there is more of a movement and education since feb 5th- about pre registering people, etc. Living In philly I have seen the benefits of our grassroots registering movement DAILY in center city. But my point is- these polls don't even reflect poeple like myself- who are active volunteers, and donate what we can to this campaign but did not vote due to the closed primary, I know of a lot of my friends who were lazy and didn't get absentee ballots and were unable to vote as well - luckily their states went to Obama anyway.

So I guess in conclusion- the polls don't even cover the breadth of Obama's possible votes in Nov- there are a lot more out there who didn't vote in the primary but will vote for him in the general. And by then- McCain will continue to make blunders and choose fear to win votes, all the while proving he is the same old same old.

As I pointed out to my fiance last night- (who is an obama man and thus doesn't need any convincing)

"Look McCain LOST to BUSH!!" And some how people keep forgetting this- that Bush looked a hell of a lot better against McCain and that was before we even knew the half about Bush, and we knew more about McCain. For me there was never any real candidate from the Republican party- McCain just got lucky some how and appeared to be the least freakish one out there....

just my two cents

UPDATE the Colbert Challenge!!

Both Obama and Clinton supporters were given the challenge to raise $600,001 for schools in PA, on the website Donors choose .org- By Stephen Colbert, whose' supporters raised $66,000 when Colbert was temporarily on the S.C ballot for the Republican nomination.

On Monday March 24th we reached our GOAL!!!

So they upped the anti and gave us a new goal of $100,001!

We are working towards that goal and as I write this blog- we have raised $71,947 to Hillary supporter's $12,193!!

Let's reach this new goal and help out schools in our upcoming primary!

here's the link:

http://www.donorschoose.org/donors/viewChallenge.html?id=18369&zone=0

HELP me with my Republican family

So I've been active with the campaign since January, and although that might still make me a newbie- the past three months have been intense with the election so I'm "vetted" ; ). And as any Obama supporter, I have educated myself about Obama from this blog and other articles and venues... I have volunteered in DE- canvassing leading up to Feb 5th, I've seen both Barack and Michelle at two different rallies and I practically live on this website in my free time and even in my not so free time. My point is, after all this I can't for the life of me convince my republican family that Obama is the candidate we need to elect in Novemeber.

I know its a ways away, but the conversation always comes up and no matter what I say- I can't convince them that Obama is genuine, real, and will deliver change... the biggest issue for them is taxes- my family is the "fiscal republican" group- so when it comes down to it- an increase in taxes for them is a big issue- the whole idea to give a hand out to the drug addict from their own pockets- is what they bring up.

I tell them that Obama doesn't believe in "Handouts" that he wants to give incentives to people. And I mention that our country is at war, the economy sucks as a result of the war that was waged by the man that they elected and then re-elected. Its going to cost us to begin paying this back, not to mention help with the housing debacle ...

Now on some levels my family has realized that Bush is an idiot, but the idea of a withdrawl from Iraq is not high on their lists either.

So I need some pointers for the ecomony and taxes

and on the withdrawl- proving why it is a good idea to leave.

thanks for helping me with this conversation.

I know a lot of these issues will be brought up during the general election against McCain- and Obama will so his bipartisan-ness through more Republican surrogates, etc... But its never to early to start the dialogue.

"All he has is a speech...!" Thank GOD!

After yesterday's speech, one that we can all agree was moving, important, and crucial to our time. Obama broke the silence on race in our nation, how racism still exists, perhaps not in polite company but at the privacy of our own dinner tables.

Obama covered everything. He not only explained where he is coming from, but where people of Rev. Wright's generation are coming from as well.

We all know the speech by now. And I am not writing to give a full detailed review. I am writing to express a little idea I had yesterday in response to the speech.

Once the reviews began flooding in on how fabulous his speech truly was, how it lived up to expectations etc... one thought kept playing over and over again in my head- What can the Clinton's possibly say now? Will they have to rely more on their own policy making and character (yikes!).

Because this argument of "All Obama has is a speech he gave in 2004!" Just wont fly anymore, and if they stuck to that line they would fail miserably.

Because my friends- THANK GOD he had a speech in 2002 opposing the War, Thank God he gave a speech at the convention in 2004, Thank God for The Iowa Speech and all the other speeches since then. AND thank God he had a Speech from March 18th 2008- that began to hold not only American citizens accountable but the MSM as well.

THIS speech showed Obama's ability to connect! something that is so rare from most politicians. It showed how he represents all of us, he "gets it".

And what I kept thinking was- THIS is the CANDIDATE who I want broadcasting a speech from the OVAL Office in times of trouble, a person who can unite and comfort his citizens while holding them accountable for the outcome and the success of our endeavors. (and you can bet that this is the person who I want answering any dam phone yah like! just had to throw that in there)

So yes, Hillary and Bill, Obama does have a speech, in fact he's got plenty! Not only does Obama have the "words" that matter, but he has the ideas behind them, and the ingenuity and skills, not to mention faith in the American people- to organize and bring about CHANGE.

In closing, my friend the Hillary supporter, and friend of Philly's mayor- called me last night to ask me if I had seen the speech, she heard from her husband and everyone else that it was truly amazing and she was going to watch it when she got home.

Do I dream of us winning PA by huge margins, yes, of course!! There is a lot of work left to do. So let's stay positive and view this speech as also being a pep talk to keep us inspired through the next contests!

And check out the Rolling Stones Article about our movement!

http://www.rollingstone.com/news/coverstory/19106326

The Bigger picture on Rev Wright

As I was walking around Philly today with my OBAMA pin on my jacket- I kept thinking- what would I say if someone on the street saw my pin and asked me about Obama. And what would I say if they brought up the rev Wright information from this past week?

So I am going to list some ideas to clarify my thoughts -for me, and to share some ideas with fellow OBAMA supporters.

First there is the bigger picture:

OBAMA is winning, and his odds of winning the dem nomination are very good. Obviously Hillary and her people are- freaking out and therefore doing EVERYTHING in their power to stop this- we have seen their kitchen sink get bigger and greasier over the past weeks.

The biggest smear and "fear" thus far was the belief that Barack is actually a Muslim, which we know is not true. And although this smear might have worked with some- with those who choose to believe everything they read and not research for a second opinion- Overall the Muslim smear has failed, in that it just wont stick. Let me say that EVEN if Barack was MUSLIM it shouldn't Matter!! My god, are we that sad!

And furthermore- why does it even matter what Our President's religion is!? Did this christian qualification come with the Religious right and their backing of George W?

Since the Muslim smear seemed to cool off- the media, or whoever moved on to another aspect of Barack while still in keeping with the topic of his faith and the source of this faith. Because as mentioned above the President's faith is apparently a qualification! (doesn't sound like a separation of church and state to me!)

Also- let us remember this is a slow news "week" until PA in April- and lets just look at what went down last week.

1) Ferraro quotes, and then stepping down

2) The Spitzer thing- which could have had a larger impact on Hillary- with her connection to him and her own experience with her Husband fooling around followed by an Impeachment

3) Rev Wright 20 yrs experience boiled down to 2- 30 sec clips.

At the end of the week people seem to be freaking out over #3.

I think Barack's statement on the matter was great, and I would agree- with the point that I too would want people to judge me by MY actions and not those of my church, or religious lead, or family members. For example I love the men in my family, but I sure as hell would not want their "speeches" to speak about my character. I agree with Obama that Wright is coming from another generation that expereinced turmoil during the 60's and as a result many people within the community have been hurt and are still resentful- However this was not his experience. We must look at the bigger picture of Obama- he is the example of America- he is a melting pot!!! This is Awesome.

The good from all this:

I know many in the MSM and any closeted racist who was just jumping to find a reason to not vote for Obama that appeared "legitimate"- would agree with me on this next point- BUT I think that Obama's attendance in the church speaks to his approach on working with people. Like Lincoln, who surrounded himself with people he disagreed with from both parties- he did so in order to make the best informed decision. To have all sides of the argument known, to not turn a blind eye to such beliefs and opinions that are in fact a large part of how some of today's African American's feel.

if you ask me, we don't listen enough, or communicate enough with those who differ from us. Hence- WAR.

How are you suppose to help a man if you have not put yourself in his shoes?

Here are some interesting articles on the Wright issue from the Huffington Post:

Enjoy.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/denise-clapsaddle/obamas-rejection-of-past_b_91662.html

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/scott-kurashige/obamas-crisis-and-mlks-_b_91807.html

Reporting from my small corner of Philly

I'm a grad student in Philly and I attend an art school- so most students- young and older tend to support Obama. But as we see in the past elections- this is one of Obama's strongest demographics- students.

But I have had an insight into another demographic in Philadelphia that tends to be Hillary's strong hold and an area we should address in order to win PA- that areas is the "old school dems".

A friend of mine, who is a 50yr old female -says she is split btwn the two, however she is currently leaning towards Hillary. This friend of mine has been involved in the political scene for quite some time and is also a friend of the city's Mayor who has endorsed Hillary. So this example is a tuffy- but a very valid insight!

So here are the two biggest issues that I have seen through our conversations about this election.

1) he is inexperienced

2) and Hillary has been "Vilified" by the press. (which I think is actually the biggest issue, but people tend to fall back on number 1 because its more "rational")

I will say that reasoning with such supporters is a a difficult task and I can't imagine what it would be like if they weren't your friend, but rather a stranger. Either way you cut it, its hard. And this hard fact is why- by tonight's exit polls from Mississippi- show that around 83% of voter's have already made up their minds weeks before an actual primary- so our work is cut out for us in PA.

My point is- We have to hit the experience issue HARD. And this is why we should not keep going after the nitty gritty- down in the gutter stuff of he said she said. Basically what Obama's been doing this whole time- staying above the fray. Because- since some Hillary supporters feel she has been vilified- SO DO NOT GO THERE.

Focus on the specifics of their time in the Senate and compare their records and show how HE is the NEW POLITICS. Now you might be talking to these old school dems, so that "new" argument might not return results- (because they are still in the past and don't see what was so wrong about the first Clinton administration, nor do they see how electing a Clinton would make our democracy look like an american monarchy- they feel that is not an issue!)

BUT this is one thing that these old school dems CAN agree on you with- AT the END of the Day they want a democrat in the white house, and they are afraid of the Democratic party being torn apart. They want the party to remain unified.

Now of course I'm biased and I feel that- if Hillary is nominated without the most delegates (which, let's face it- the math is against her at this point- making her nomination potentially undemocratic- and what does that say to the world (not to mention all of us))- that the US - the home of democracy isn't even democratic on our OWN soil!

SO- keep this story in mind- and FOCUS on the specifics of what they have accomplished- and offer to email them the websites that show these contrasting achievements - so they can see it for themselves and not just take your word for it.

all the best and happy calling!

btw- I'm happy to have a further conversation about this, but my post was getting rather long, so email me, or comment below to continue on this topic.

These are a few of my favorite things!

Everyday I find new videos or articles that help educate me on this race. On the political process, on the candidates and the media hype. So I decided like so many of us have- to keep a little data base of all of my favorite links as a reference to send to people when I need some hard facts to back up a point about Obama.

The PA primaries are coming up and as a resident and grad student in Philadelphia I know I will have the opportunity to continue to GOTV and help people understand why choosing Obama is so important- so I will fwd them to this post as a guide to learn more about Obama through my research.

Hillary's PA extensions- as granted by Rendell, she is still 10% short of the needed delegates: http://www.philly.com/philly/hp/news_update/15759032.html

"NAFTA-gate" How it was actually the Clinton camp who down played any NAFTA changes with Canada: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20080305.wharpleak0305/BNStory/National/home

Global marketing execs agree -- America's image is in the toilet.
Turning into my grandmother!

So I've been busy writing letters instead of writing my Thesis for grad school- whoops!

But its for a good cause, that's for sure!

My letter total so far is 4, which isn't bad... but I'm sure it will continue to grow as this race heats up. We always used to tease my grandmother for how she constantly writes letters to politicians and anyone else she has an issue with. If ever she told us of a story or incident that just wasn't justified, or handled poorly- we would say- "you Gonna write them a letter?" and of course she would.

So here I am, having just finished letter #4 as i slowly turn into my grandmother!

That's 3 letters to my Senator- Senator Joe Biden of Delaware. That's two emails and one paper letter. two before Feb 5th and one just today- Feb 13th- after Obama's potomac sweep.

The other Letter is to my local paper- the News Journal, which was published the weekend before Super Tuesday! Hooray! My Parents were actually proud, and for once the teasing about my Patriotism for Barack was replaced with pride. They sent a copy to my -letter-writing Grandmother!

So here's my most recent letter to Senator Biden

Dear Senator Biden, I wanted to share with you my experience canvassing in Delaware on Super Tuesday. I took the train down from Philadelphia and stayed with my parents for the week while I volunteered for the Obama Campaign. In my earlier letters to you- I explained how as a registered Republican I wanted to help Obama win Delaware since my vote could not.

I learned a lot that week about campaigning and about my fellow Delawareans. I met a lot of people who took vacation days from work to volunteer, others who not only volunteered but housed those from out of town. I met a man who flew in from the Netherlands, an 85 yr old White male who canvassed for 5 hrs straight, and many people who had been with the campaign during the past year. There were students from Sanford and little kids who wouldn't be able to vote for ten more years, but stopped by to help get out the vote! It was truly inspiring. I also got out of my comfort zone by knocking on doors and speaking with local Delaware residents whose neighborhoods I have never visited before. I kept thinking- today, on February 5th you have the easy choice to make your life, and your family's life so much better by voting for Barack Obama. I loved volunteering and will do so where I currently live in Philadelphia as the PA primary continues. Despite what the Media or others might say about this campaign, the results of last night's potomac primaries said it all. Obama is not just receiving the black vote, he is receiving all votes and winning the majority. He has united this country and he will be able to beat McCain in November. Once again, I am writing you to ask for your endorsement of this exciting Democratic Candidate for President. Your state has spoken and as its representative we would love if you would join us in helping elect Barack Obama for President of the United States! all the best,

Abigail

Here is my letter to the Editor of the News Journal on Feb 1st

I'm a Republican who thinks the American people as well as the international community are speaking out for change and integrity in the White House. Even though Delaware is a small state with few delegates, it just takes one person to stand up and bring about change.

We can start by endorsing Obama on Feb. 5 and all the way to the White House in November. The alternative is the same dirty politics that has made us wary. I choose to back a candidate who is honest and trustworthy, who would not lie to the American people.

I cannot support a candidate such as Hillary Clinton, who has ties to big business, big oil and once sat on the board of Wal-Mart, a corporation that thrives on sweat shops. I cannot support an American monarchy of Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton.

Obama has experience helping ordinary citizens, and is willing to bring his fresh approach to a tired political scene. Obama has the ability to invigorate citizens to participate in their democracy, as opposed to becoming apathetic in response to the Iraq war and politicians who do not listen.

Abigail, Greenville

So there yah have it!

In the meantime I am working on some silkscreens to send out to Texas and making jpegs on photoshop to email to others- so they can have them printed out into posters, etc to help aid with the store's backup!

www.abigailgrayswartz.com

Keep Walmart out of the white house!

Well here I am, not sure if people will find this post and read it- but I just wanted to share some news- I am taking my emailing a step further and will be voluntering at the wilmington, DE office leading up to Feb 5th.

I'm excited to be more involved, to put my own grass roots mobility to work. And to have them work for Obama. I am seeing and manifesting the above quote-

"I'm asking you to believe not just in my ability to bring about real change in washington... I'm asking you to believe in yours."

So here I am believing in my ability to support the change I wish to see in the world. I am constantly encouraged by reading the blogs, by reading posts on facebook- to see the international community get behind a man like Barack, to show how much they care about our country's politics. The world is watching. And we owe it to ourselves, and to the international community to help elect Barack Obama. Because at the end of the day its not about gender or race- its about who is the best for the job, who can we actually trust, who will finally represent such a wide and diverse nation- and I believe that person is Barack Obama.

In my brief networking up to this point- I received an email in response to my fundraising. This person is a Hillary supporter, and like most supporters of HRC- she is letting HRC's gender dertermine her vote, this voter can not stomach the idea of another man in office, its just against her feminist beliefs. And despite the other issues that this voters agrees with HRC on- at the heart of it- is gender. And that is so unfortunate. I too am a woman, I believe in equal rights, etc but that doesn't mean I am going to vote for a woman candidate just because she is not a man, especially if she is not trustworthy! True its about time we broke the white man as president- "trend" but my desire to do so will not influence me to vote or support a lesser candidate! I don't care how many years of "Experience" HRC has- will being first lady make her a better leader? Not necessarily. Just look at the scandals that she and Bill leave in their wake! White water is just one of them! And Hillary sitting on the board of walmart! WHAT!!!???!!! That is reason enough for me not to vote for her! I refuse to shop at walmart, refuse to buy their stocks, to support anything they do- so Why in the world would I want to elect a former board member to the white house!!?? Its outrageous!

How could someone, especially one who wants to embody democratic principles support and help manage a company who does not look after their own, who pawns them off on the state for healthcare, not giving them any benefits! A company that goes into a community sucks it dry- putting all of the mom and pop businesses out, building a goliath building, saying they will donate money to their community, all the while receiving tax brakes from the govt- and ultimately, what do they do? When time is up, and they need to start contributing, they pick up and move- building another goliath building, just a mile outside of the county lines in order to be exempt! Leaving their previous concrete building to sit and rot- that's not very Green Hillary! Nor is supporting a company that thrives on Slave labor across the seas, that treats the retailers who sell to walmart unfairly! And Hillary only recently in 2007 distanced herself from Walmart. So as we can see- just like walmart- Hillary will use the resources at her fingertips but once its starts to actually reflect poorly upon her, and people hold her accountable for an alliance as such she will pack up and move away- all the while benefiting from her previous affiliation!

Anyway, enough of that- I think Obama should really play that up more, talk about the scandals and the Clinton affiliations. Hell if Hillary is going there, come back at her with the same. However I do appreciate the grace Obama demonstrates through his restrant at times. I think taking the high road as served Obama well, but there is a way to be firm, truthful, and a fighter.

Keep up the momentum Team!

What I've done so far...

I'm excited. This is really great to get behind some one who I actually trust and believe in.

I really enjoyed the email that was sent out today. Its nice to know that I was not the only one who donated the other night after the NH caucus. Its very easy to watch the news, to pay attention to the media hype and feel that there is a great challenge ahead. Don't get me wrong, there is still work to be done and through continued commitment- progress will be made.

So, what I've done so far- being a student, who is currently working through her last canned goods in the cabinet, I could only personally donate so much. So I have begun to send out emails to others who might be interested in donating to Obama's campaign.

I just finished an email to my Senator, Senator Biden- asking him to endorse Obama. If I knew that I would start this blog I would have copied the email so whoever looks at this little blog would have been able to read it. Oh well, I do have to say that it was a tactful email- writing to a former Democratic presidential candidate has the potential to be awkward, but I think I did a good job.

I've done little things too, joined a Barack facebook group, posted similar items to my profile, as well as asked my friends on the network to consider donating to Obama.

I continue to watch video clips online, and participate in polls. If anyone else has read the tipping point, they would know that little things can have a rippling effect and cause things to "tip". So even taking a Poll on Ellen.com can send a message- even if its- That Ellen watchers support Barack, yeah it might be a specific dynamic, perhaps primarily women, but hey, that's what the reporters were saying after NH- that Hillary has a better corner on the women vote. Yeah, maybe in NH...

WHAT I Plan to do, Or WOULD Like To DO:

Since I live in Philadelphia, but am registered in Delaware, I am looking into some Philadelphia events. Currently there aren't any actually in the city that are listed- so that only says to me that that needs to change. So tomorrow I will look into it- find a venue that a group of supporters could inhabit to watch an upcoming debate, or to have a brainstorming- fundraising event. We'll see, the possibilities are endless!

And that's what I love about this campaign, the grass roots focus- you have to give responsibility to the American people in order to gain their trust, interest and attention! because lord knows that has not happened for a long time, if anything this current administration has left the American people out of the loop- with restricted information, and an unwillingness to answer questions. Its a disgrace.

So I'll keep posting as things come up. If you are in the Philadelphia area and would like to help me organize an event, let me know! Thanks.
