Special rules exist for First Time Voters voting by absentee ballot in MI, IL, NV, FL

If you are a first-time voter who intends to use an absentee ballot, you must register to vote in person. If you do not register in person but instead by mail or at a registration drive, then you must vote in person the first time you vote. If you vote in person for any election, you may vote by mail in all following elections.

The law allows absentee voting, for any reason, to begin 35 days before an election. Another law on the books for several years closes voter registration 30 days before Election Day.

That leaves a five-day period (Sept 30 – Oct 4) during which people can register and immediately vote absentee.

WASILLA, Alaska -- The biggest project that Sarah Palin undertook as mayor of this small town was an indoor sports complex, where locals played hockey, soccer, and basketball, especially during the long, dark Alaskan winters.

The only catch was that the city began building roads and installing utilities for the project before it had unchallenged title to the land. The misstep led to years of litigation and at least $1.3 million in extra costs for a small municipality with a small budget. What was to be Ms. Palin's legacy has turned into a financial mess that continues to plague Wasilla.

"It's too bad that the city of Wasilla didn't do their homework and secure the land before they began construction," said Kathy Wells, a longtime activist here. "She was not your ceremonial mayor; she was in charge of running the city. So it was her job to make sure things were done correctly."

Welcome to my blog for Senator Barack Obama. Many of us are familiar with our candidate's accomplishments. But then there are those who know the truth but choose to deliberately mislead the public. As if they didn't already know (they worked alongside him for years, for goodness sakes!), they endeavor to put questions out there to confuse constituents who do not have access to this knowlege.

So, I'll repeat one of their questions: What exactly has Senator Obama accomplished in the IL State Senate and during his tenure thus far in the US Senate? Detractors try to tell you dismissively that he's only good for a speech; detractors who have co-sponsored Bills with him in the US Senate.

Fighting back the knee-jerk response of calling them outright liars (in public), I decided to visit the Library of Congress website at http://thomas.loc.gov/ and search for all Bills and Amendments sponsored or co-sponsored by Senator Obama. Take a look at the bulk of the Bills he has sponsored - Bills that have not yet been voted into law - and you will see some of what a President Obama has planned for education, veterans and military benefits, healthcare, the economy, the environment, foreign policy, energy, the reduction of poverty, and more. Note below, that as early as 2003 in the IL State Legislature, Obama supported preditory mortgage lending legislation aimed at averting home foreclosures. Soak it in. Judgment! Foresight! Bipartizanship! Accomplishment! Then laugh in their lying faces!

In addition to Bills sponsored in the US Senate, I also discoverd that there are several pieces of legislation, voted into law, that was sponsored by Senator Obama. Note too, I have grouped the Bills found on the Library of Congress website by category for easier perusal. There are over 100 Bills and Amendments sponsored by Senator Obama this past year alone; since his arrival in the US Senate, 4 Bills he sponsored or co-sponsored have been signed into law. The Library of Congress database only goes back to the beginning of 2007, and I do need to locate their archive for prior Bills. However, note that two of Senator Obama's Bills were passed into US law in 2006 - evidence that his work predates the current database entries. No "empty suit" here. Read on.

Risque & Nude Photos of Sarah Palin - Photoshopped

I am running into Sarah Palin "risque" photos ALL OVER THE PLACE. Some are nude, some in bikini, etc - and I'm almost certain that 100% of them are photo shopped.

My suspicion is that Republicans POSING as Obama supporters are creating them and/or spreading them around as if they are real.

They are NOT REAL.

Please do not fall into the trap of distributing them - such a thing will only make us look sexist, judgmental, and downright nasty. This will only generate great empathy from female voters who also encountered sexism on the campaign trail with Senator Hillary Clinton.

Folks, I can feel it in the air. Instead of feeling frustrated with Senator Clinton's staunches followers, we must see the moment for what it is. Something drastic has changed in America. The moment is right for Senator Obama to give a rousing speech on Gender Inequality in our fair Nation. It is a subject that requires his special touch - only he can give the kind of speech that will move the nation and shake it to its core. He's the only one who can do it justice!

How to Win Appalachia & Small Town America

I believe Barack can make win over Appalachia and rural America by reversing his approach in the primary elections.

a) instead of having constituents compete to be taken to dinner by Barack, have a family from Appalachia or any rural small town compete to prepare a home-cooked meal for the Obama Family.

b) Barack should pick an everyday average Joe (an Arby's worker, etc) teach him how to shoot a hunting rifle. He should take that opportunity to explain that there are two separate "gun issues" within American society. The Founding Fathers could not possibly have foreseen today's inner city problems and nationwide problems with drugs and illegal firearms. He has been an advocate for the infants that perish in the cross fires during gang wars, policemen that are executed on city streets. As president for ALL of America, he must also be an advocate for the hunters in rural America. The two situations are not mutually exclusive.

c) Have a family invite him and his family to a small-town church. Worship with them.

Conversations: talk about when Melia and Sasha were born, discuss event from when they were infants. Talk about intimate moments with your mother and grandmother. Talk about who Michelle is, what she is like (besides the fact that she is one tough cookie). When the 527s come out with attack ads agains Michelle, the population has to already have a personal relationship with her, or their image of her will stick.

Team Obama response to McCain re Townhall

I was hoping for a different response from Camp Obama to John McCain's challenge for 10 consecutive Townhall meetings starting next week.

I would rather see my candidate be decisive and in charge. A better response (to my mind) would have been something like "Senator Obama will take Senator McCain's suggestions under consideration. While he is eager to debate any and all issues with Senator McCain, he will let the Senator know in what format and how often these discussions will take place".

The whole thing is a psychological game. McCain is trying to make Barack Obama look like a green, snot-nosed kid that he has to lead. We do not want our candidate to appear to be REACTING to McCain's prodding. We want Senator Obama to be PROACTIVE and DECISIVE at all times.

McCain is WEAK on IRAQ

How does John McCain define “winning” in Iraq? Why does John McCain think anyone has to be on the ground in Iraq to “get it right”? To the contrary, what is needed is a solid grasp of the social, religious and political climate of Iraq and its neighbors. Anyone well-versed on these issues can assert with confidence that Iraq as a society is so volatile, that any positive effects of a “surge” will at best be tenuous and temporary.

And why in the world is McCain pushing this notion of “experience”? Let me insert a simile: No-one will dispute that the parents of nine children are “experienced parents”. But if all nine children were malnourished, diabetic, and borderline hypertensive, would you accept childcare tips from them? No. Experience is not always positive. George Bush’s “intelligence” came from men “experienced” in their fields, who failed to get it right. College graduates like myself, who studied the social-religious-political world of Iraq and Iran protested the war in Boston, NY, and LA because we had a good idea what was coming. We understood the dangers of invading Iraq and we marched in the streets in droves to protest the impending US invasion – but to no avail. We got it right - and we did not have to visit Iraq! These are the reasons why we back Obama, and the reasons why we think McCain’s rhetoric is as dangerous as was pre-war George Bush. Here are some of the historical facts:

McCain is becoming Obama-Lite!

McCain and the Republicans are following Obama's lead. They follow his lead of "Change You Can Believe In" trying to mimick it, but coming up short with the ripped-off slogan "The Change You Deserve". But I'm not complaining - imitation IS the highest form of praise. That's right McCain - follow your leader!

Today, in his 2013 speech McCain takes a page out of Obama's book when he states that our troops will withdraw from Iraq under his administration. McCain tries to salvage some of his dignity by holding on to part of his original war-plan - he states that he will keep a low-key military presence in Iraq. If this trend keeps up, by November Mr. StraightTalk will qualify to be a new recruit to Obama Nation. After all, lacking a concrete plan of his own, a smart man learns to adopt a superior one! That's right, Mr. McCain, follow your leader - follow OBAMA!

Promote Entrepreneurship in High School Environment

Entrepreneurs and small business owners are the mainstay of the US economy. Entrepreneurship studies and programs should be a common feature in our high schools, especially in poor and minority communities.

In addition, recognition should be awarded to students who display innovation, invention and world-changing ideas. Students who make a difference within the school community or the community at large, students who identify a need within their environment and make every effort to fill that need should be rewarded. These are the qualities of a pioneering spirit that seems to be a dying breed in our society today. Teachers who nurture tomorrow's movers and shakers should be rewarded.

Proposing a world-relevant high school curriculum

After we scrap 'YOUR CHILD LEFT BEHIND", the next step is to create a high school curriculum to prepare our students for success in an increasingly global economy.

A new high school curriculum should include studies in:

a) global supply and demand

b) e-Trade

c) financial management

d) budgeting and money management

e) financial vocabulary

In addition to reading, writing, math, science and social studies, our students need to learn how to compete within the global marketplace. On the domestic scene, the housing crisis has taught us that we need financial savvy. A good basic education or at least a good basic financial vocabulary should promote sound wealth building that could help close the widening gap between the super-rich and the poor.
