Dear Friends,

i am inspired by the McPalin Campaign's "Truth Squad" to begin my own regular "Consciousness Check" for those i love!

Were you offended by Barack Obama's recent comment when referring to the McPalin campaign he said, "you can put lipstick on a pig, but it is still a pig"?

Well- the McPalin Campaign's Truth Squad sure was up in arms about it: http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2008/09/obama-says-mc-1.html

What does McCain think: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WMPYkNQlJMM

Just checking your consciousness--does anyone REALLY believe that this was a slur against Palin or any other woman? hello? wake up......somebody get the smelling salts....they are unconscious!

The Promise delivered to a stadium of proud Americans

Initially I was wait-listed to get community credentials for the final night of the DNC and Barack Obama's historic speech accepting the nomination at Invesco. I was pretty bummed out, until i quickly reminded myself that it meant that so many people wanted to attend...and that was good news. But, the campaign office in my little Northwestern Colorado rural town where i have been volunteering called to say that I received a ticket!

I stood in line for about two hours to get in. Security was the same as getting onto an airplane, but the police were wonderful and the campaign had people handing out free water along the way. Like myself, tens of thousands of campaign volunteers were there on their own, not with a friend or family member. But what I had said to my husband before i left was so true...i was there with 80,000 of my closest friends!

Barack of course did not disappoint with his speech, but that was not the most amazing thing about the experience. The most amazing thing was that i was surrounded by tens of thousands of people just like me, gay or straight, black or white, old or young and in-between...all of us knowing that we MUST move towards taking back this country and WE must be agents of change, not expecting politicians to do it for us. If you were not there, you could have missed this--it might have looked simply like a huge political rally for a candidate. but the rally was the rally of everyday people who care about other people, and want to better the situations of all people. the Promise delivered by Barack was that if we are willing to work, we can make things better for families, our friends, and our communities. if you heard the cheering, it was because those of us in that stadium accepted the Promise and are willing to work to see it happen!

Economy yes, but Please Don't Forget the Dead and Disabled Vets and Their Families

While the campaign moves forward after the convention in the last, long push towards the general election, I hope the campaign, while using the bad economy as a touchpoint, will not push that angle to the exclusion of others, like the fact that the Bush Admin, and Republicans (Media and Democrats, too) acted shamefully and unforgivably in sending our brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers, children and grandchildren to die for LIES and OIL. This is a message that cannot be lost among the others, it is the MOST important reason anyone should have for rejecting a Republican choice of any kind for President.

Your Honest Appraisal in the Privacy of the Voting Booth

While we march towards November, I am taking a bit of a different approach with those from the dark side (staunch republicans) and am quietly requesting to friends, family and acquaintances, that when they step into the privacy of that voting booth in November, that they honestly consider whether they are willing to serve, or send their child, or grandchild to war in another country. whether they are willing to accept all that comes with that...including the possibility of death, dismemberment and mental illness. because if they are not willing to embrace this sacrifice on behalf of their PARTY (notice i did not say COUNTRY), they cannot in good conscience vote for McCain.

This is not to imply that Barack might not be required to request a war-time sacrifice on the part of all of us, should something horrible occur. But, McCain sings Beach Boy's songs with the lyrics replaced to go like this, "bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb iran" with a chuckle. ABSOLUTELY ATROCIOUS!
Be honest with yourself, and if you cannot wholeheartedly agree to enlist yourself, your children, or grandchildren in a war that may indeed be right around the corner with a John McCain presidency, you have an obligation to the rest of us, to do the right thing and vote for Barack Obama.

Main Stream Manufactured Media

My Open Letter to the MSM:

When I was growing up and a young woman, news was reported, not manufactured. I no longer watch TV “news,” with the exception of NPR, Meet the Press, Keith Olbermann though let’s admit it, he goes a bit over the top also), and Morning Express from time to time.

My letter concerns some recent manufactured news, and I wonder if anyone cares anymore about the attempt by the media to control what we see and hear. I am a regular (most days and nights) blog reader and poster on the Obama website. Our electronic community is vibrant, enthusiastic, incredibly intelligent and OPEN. We regularly see posts that we call “Trolls” that appear only to disrupt and anger our community. We (the blog posters) have developed all kinds of tactics to respond to these posters, including providing unsolicited recipes, RID (Report, Ignore, Donate) and TID (Troll Inspired Donation). We (and I know I speak for all on the blogs) encourage and engage in lively discussion about issues both political and humane. We are unafraid of challenges to our positions, and we love to convert non-Obama folks to the cause of his election.

While the above is the background, here is the issue: on Tuesday night the first of July, I was on the blogs and we had an absolute tidal wave of Trolls, far more than usual. The next day Obama bloggers post that the media is reporting a story that there are a great number of dissenters and that Obama is losing support among his own supporters as evidenced by the blog posts. My point is that this story seems to be completely manufactured, with an obvious intention to persuade watchers that somehow Obama is losing support.

If the Obama electronic community of blog posters is news, here is why: we are a large, incredibly diverse and devoted group, talking and supporting each other while we support the campaign of Barack Obama for President with our time, talent and treasure. Now that is the real story.
