Editorial RE Pres Obama's Speech to Students

Dear Editor:

You know, in the old days, when a youngster told his mother that he/ she wanted to be President of the United States, the parent would tell the youth something like this…

1. You need to be much smarter than the average person so you will have to work hard and be very serious about your studies. You will need some kind of advanced degree too because a college degree will be worth about as much as a high school diploma by the time you are grown up.

2. You will need to be a good communicator and know yourself. If you are comfortable in your own skin and know that you are a good, principled, capable and deserving person, you will project that to the world.

3. You will need to work much, much harder than the common man. This could mean that you will be working when others are sleeping, playing, exercising, enjoying free time.

This latest kerfuffle over President Obama’s education speech has really tripped my trigger. After all, what happened to the Republican mantra, “Pull yourself up by the bootstraps, work hard and you will succeed”? If there is anyone who fits that bill, it is Barack Obama. Born to a single mother with no father for support, he did just that. He made mistakes but pulled himself up by the bootstraps to not only get into Harvard ON HIS OWN, he graduated magna cum laude and was the President of Harvard Law Review which is the cream of the cream of the crop.

These parents who were so strenuously opposed to letting their children hear Obama’s inspiring story are ridiculous, if not, hysterical. And then to hear about the parents that were allowing their children to board a bus to go and hear President Bush give a speech the next week- unbelievable!

The sad thing is that so many of these Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh followers do not even see the irony in this. You want your children to hear a speech delivered by GW Bush, a C student, who exercised 2 hours a day for his entire presidency and did not even interrupt his vacation while thousands died in the Katrina Disaster. I stand corrected, he did fly over it.

There is one more virtue that Obama has that makes him even more equipped to be president that anyone in the last 50 years, and that is his courage. No president has more reason to fear assassination than Obama. Every day that President Obama kisses his children good-bye and sends them off to school, he has to have, in the back of his mind, the ominous notion that this could be the last time that he will be able to do this.

I am a politically moderate person and I do not endorse all of President Obama’s policies but we have finally returned to the standard of what a President of the United States should be and it is about time. Starting with smart, disciplined and courageous is a very good start indeed.

Glenn Beck is losing touch with reality.

Is it me, or does Glenn Beck seem to be losing touch with reality? A month ago he was saying that Pres Obama hates white people and now he was been seen on his show talking about eugenics and crying about what he thinks will happen to his daughter with CP if national health care gets through.

The guy seriously needs professional help and he looks like a bipolarama. If not, at the bare minimum he needs to man up... Uhhggggg, I cannot believe that he gets any air time at all!

Of course the charges are coming from a turn-coat democrat (Berg) who seeks to destroy Barack's campaign, not sure of his motivation... maybe just his 15 minutes of fame. Of course I found this video on gretawire.com - Fox blog.

After viewing the video I went to the "Fight the Smears" section of myobama.com. Sure enough the lie about a bogus birth certificate was there but it was at the bottom of the list. In light of these recent ramped up smear/ swiftboat tactics, that rebuttal needs to go to the top of the list with the correct copy of this birth certificate which is posted but most people may not have seen.

Team Barack, this is all the McCain camp has to attempt to steal the election once again. By releasing this video this late, they are hoping that you will not have enough time to respond (as with Kerry) and they will capture those undecided voters.

Funny thing though, with all of this fuss about Barack's records, why has Palin never released her medical records? Could it be that if she does, then we will all find out that she did not give birth last April. How will she explain the tangled web of lies she has spun? Anybody still not clear on all of the suspicious details of the birth should google the Vanity Fair article on Gov. Palin.

OK, Team Barack, you must get out in front of the latest swiftboat tactic!!!! I am asking help from fellow bloggers to help fight this recent smear. I was kicked off the Fox blogs for fighting with neocons and racists. Please jam all of the FOX other neocon blogs to rebut these rediculous charges.

As Berg says, "I don't think I am wrong"... but he does not have to be correct on this charge that Obama is not a naturalized citizen. All he has to do is put doubt in the voters minds until the election is over... just like with Kerry.

Please send e-mails to all of your contacts and warn them about this video and give them the words to counter the attacks.

Ayres vs Kreating... get ready to rumble!

If I hear one more news commentator talk about the Ayres issue, I'm gonna scream!

OK, So McCain did not bring up Ayres at the last debate because he did not want to be perceived as changing the subject and get accused of stearing off the economy. It must have taken every bit of will power he had. You know him... he is an impulsive, emotional, erratic and angry old man. I am sure that his aides (even Rove) told him, "under no circumstances should you bring up the Ayers thing... you will unleash hell because Obama will fire back about Charles Keating." But McCain is growing more and more impatient every day and so Barack should prepare for Ayres to come up at the last debate because it is McCain's last chance and he is, after all, quite the gambler.

So, while Barack has explained his affiliation with Ayres, working on a board with him, McCain has yet to explain why he has taken some 9 junkets with Charles Keating to know whether this man was a good and descent contributor. In 1989, the Arizona Republic reported that "the McCains, sometimes accompanied by their daughter and baby-sitter, had made at least nine trips at Keating's expense, sometimes aboard the American Continental jet. Three of the trips were made during vacations to Keating's opulent Bahamas retreat at Cat Cay." After McCain's realized that people were looking at Keating, he did repay Keating for some of the trips years after they were taken, after he learned that Keating was in trouble over Lincoln S & L.

McCain's handlers keep saying that McCain was exonerated and so the Obama campaign cannot imply impropriety. Bull$%^&! You cannot tell me that McCain did not subscribe to Keating's deregulation fantacy. I do not beleive for a minute that on those 9 trips, McCain told Keating what a bad idea that was and how it would undermine the solvency of S & Ls. McCain and Keating were and still are birds of a feather and John had a great affinity for people who held strong views against regulation. That was why McCain's buddying up with "Foreclosure Phil" was just so predictable.

So Barack, get ready for the Ayres thing to bubble up at the next debate and you should be ready and not accept the fact that McCain has been "exhonerated"... go with the fact that he took 9 trips to lavish resorts with Keating and then we are supposed to believe that he was not influenced by the man. And if you can mention "Foreclosure Phil", that would be a very strong and lasting soundbite. Be the attorney we know you are and show intent, general pattern and his own history to clean his clock.

We need a brainiac... you know... like Bill Clinton but without the zipper problem!

What is this? I am seeing people defending Sarah Palin on this blog??? Come on people. People keep trying to sell us that she is like Ron Reagan or Bill Clinton because her main experience is being govenor. But comparing the act of governing Alaska to governing CA is like comparing the governance of Germany to Grenada. California is #7 in gross national product in the world and that is ahead of countries like China and Mexico. You have to be kidding me...

As for comparing Palin to Bill Clinton. Yes, Bill Clinton was the Gov in a relatively small state with low population. But Bill Clinton is a Rhodes Scholar and has like a 170 IQ. The reason that the 90s were so good for Americans is not because of Clintons experience in running the poor state of Arkansas.... things were good because Clinton was so flippin smart! How can anyone who does not even hold an advanced degree (honestly a BS is like a high school diploma was 20 years ago) possibly think she can hold her own with heads of state. After all, Americans are some of the least educated citizens in the world, with or without college degrees.

And since we are on the subject of education, I heard that the Gov of Michigan is prepped Biden for the debates. People are making a lot out of the fact that Gov. Jennifer Granholm is a Harvard Law grad. Yes, that is wonderful and this woman has excellent credentials. But very few people really talk about how smart Barack is. Good God, yes, a Harvard Law Degree is excellent and very difficult to achieve. Then to make Law Review is even harder. And then to be the Editor in Chief of the Harvard Law Review... well, what we have here, folks is a man who has a superior intellect and ability to problem solve and deal with many complicated issues at a time. BO's intelligence is very understated and it should not be.... We need another brainiac like Bill Clinton about now. OK, well, we will be even better off because Barack is not as distractable and he is not the skirt chaser that Bill was (is?).

Here we go again... provoking Iran... in order to help John McCain!

I was just watching MSNBC and they announced that a US warplane was just forced to land after it violated Iranian airspace. What???? It is happening all over again... just as McCain sent Rove over to Georgia when he was slipping in the polls... and he told the Georgians that we had their backs and that they would never get another chance like this, so go ahead and provoke the Russians. Now McCain is sorely hurting in the polls again so, low and behold, we have an attempt to provoke Iran into a conflict, because why... oh that's right... McCain gains when there is an aggressive act against us or our allies.

This is all so reminiscent of the account that Vincent Bugliosi gave when testifying before the House Judiciary and as is laid out in his book, "The Prosecution of George W. Bush for Murder". Bugliosi gives compelling testimony from the Tony Blair's secretary who stated that he recorded notes of a meeting between Dubya and Blair. Bush told Blair that if a stong case could not be made for weapons of mass destruction to start the war with Iraq, we could disguise a UN plane and the Iraqis will shoot it down and then the war will begin.

When will this "might makes right" gang get it... we are on to them. We now know that if there is an act of aggression or terrorism in the weeks before this election, it has to be either "allowed" or trumped up to help the greatest hawk of all times, John Syndey McCain. Well, even spiderweb can catch a tiger if you weave it tight enough and that is what the Obama campaign is doing to McCain.

2 sound bites to help you sound more like Reagan

OK, so I never had a taste for Reaganomics- trickle down type. But there is something that he did very well which helped him get elected. That skill was for making sound bites. How many times did we hear him say, "Well, there you go again..." And it worked. As for dubya, his attention span is so limited that sound bites are all he was capable of... and yet, even dubya was effective in using sound bites in a debate and so was elected.

Barack and Joe, here you go:

1. You must talk about McCain and his penchant for surrounding himself with aristocrats and kings of deregulation... so you should mention "Foreclosure Phil" as being the author of McCain's ecomomic policy. It does not matter that Gramm is no longer co-chair for McCain's campaign. Say that. Barack.... "Well, why should we all be surprised that you would adopt the ecomomic policy of the king of deregulation, Foreclosure Phil... and your alignment with his policies is very evident in

a. b. c..."

2. The other sound bite that you should use is to call McCain, his cronies and the Bush Admin, "the borrow and spend crowd". We all know that Barack will not spend money needlessly and will be wise and careful with the taxpayer's money, HOWEVER, WE GOT TO WHERE WE ARE TODAY NOT JUST FROM SPENDING BUT FROM BORROWING MONEY UNWISELY. That goes against every conservative principle there is but the Reps like to pee on our shoes and tell us it is raining again.

Thank goodness for the Katie Couric interview... maybe now people Joe Q Public will understand what most of us have known since the day that Palin was announced as VP pick. Palin is a simple-minded, black and white, myopic and maybe even mentally ill person. She really is another George W Bush... just with ovaries. And remember, most of the RNC knew that Dubya was the lesser son, the n'er do well son of George and Babs Bush; they just DID NOT CARE and even wanted an overly emotional, less logical person in the presidency as dumb people make better puppets.

For an objective portrayal of the origin of Dubya's f%$#@ up personality, read "Bush on the Couch" written by a licensed psychiatrist. As for Palin, I do not know how she came to be such an arrogant, grandiose and self-absorbed person but she is exactly what the Christian Taliban (my name for the over-reaching and inflexible Christian right) wants for this country. It just goes to show you that a black man with impeccable credentials and a genius IQ cannot get fair and equitable treatment from these people, but they can and will say that a vapid, sheltered, good ol girl beauty queen has what it takes to exricate us from some of the most complex problems that our country has ever seen. As for Barack, I do not know why you would want to be president NOW, as you could have such a nice and easy life... but I am grateful that we will have you at the helm as our fearless, steady and calm leader. Palin- she is not in touch with reality and that is why she thinks she can do the job... just like Dubya.

John McCain- stroke, or some medical issue that is causing him to suspend the debate?

Has anybody heard about this.....?

Thom Hartman on Air America was just talking about the fact that he is wondering if McCain had a stroke or something. He said that McCain's left eye keeps sagging and blinking and that his left side looks swollen. I hope the man is not ill but, could it be, that the real reason he wants to suspend the debate is to recover what whatever is going on with him?

Of course, if he was going through some medical difficulty, we cannot rely on his campaign being transparent and honest... after all, Palin is the person who they really want and she cannot get in on her own... so old John needs to hang on until at least November.

Has anybody else noticed this eye sagging and swollen side of McCain... even more than usual.

KJaneway- you are right on in your assessment of Dubya and Palin is just like him!

Dufus is right! I bet Yale considers Bush their worst college admission they ever enrolled! Just imagine how embarrassed they must be everytime someone says that Bush was a Yale grad. Well, we all know that Bush's dad and grandad were Yale alums and if there is enough endowment, the admission rules for these prestigeous colleges could be bent quite a bit?

McCain was 5th from the bottom of his graduating class at USNA and that is out of over 800 people. Isn't it time that we give the presidency back to the best and brightest? Bill Clinton was a Rhodes Scholar with a genius IQ. In order to be the Editor in Chief of Harvard Law Review, one has to be the cream of the crop and that is hard to be among Harvard Law School students. And Palin, well, isn't she just Bush with big hair? There is no depth there... just simple, pat answers. And if a person does not even think that getting an advanced degree (she only has a 4 year degree)is necessary to compete in this comlex world, how can we believe that she puts any stock in education... after all, her arrogance and gradiose view of self is what makes her think that she can do this job, when other, more educated people with a balanced self-concept would back away from the role for a few more years until they could get more experience... AND see to it that her family will be OK with the new set of needs that will become fully realized in the next 6 months.

McCain and Palin deserve each other... but we deserve much better!

Latest Bush Approval Rating, Please!!!!!

I have not seen a poll that indicates George Bush's approval rating lately. Some 3 months ago it was hanging at 29-30%. Boy it has to be down in the teens now.

Team Obama, please try to get us current approval ratings. It will be good for our moral and I think it really helps sell the notion of a need for change when people see how other people feel about this current administration. Then, if a person expresses their disdain for this administration, the next logical step is to VOTE for someone who is unlike this president in as many ways as possible.... and that would be a vote for Obama/ Biden!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The need for instant gratification partly responsible for our economic woes

Boy, my grandfather must be rolling over in his grave about now. I am in my late 40s and I had to listen to my grandpa constantly tell me, "If it seems too good to be true, it is." "A fool and his money are soon parted." "Honest men may want to get rich, but they are not obsessed with doing it QUICKLY". "There is honor in all work and never think you are above shoveling manure or cleaning the crumbs from tables. He also talked, even back in the 60s about people who were foolish with their money... spending it as fast as they made it, living for today and only today and talked about how credit would be the bain of our existence.

That is not to say that the unscrupulous mortgage and lending industries are not to blame for this ecomomic fiasco, but if more of these families had listened to their inner voice and not to the prevalent matra of today, that is, "Everybody is doing it so it must be OK" and "I work hard so I deserve a big house" and "I do not have to wait until I can have a 20% downpayment to own a house." which is just plain good common sense since we all, ultimately, have to repay the loan.

So our speed dial society with nano-attention spans and appetites for fast bucks and even faster results (the video game mentality) have all contributed to this problem as well.

Contrast this mentality with Obama who owns one car (a Ford Hybid) and talks about turning off computers and picking up books. Obama who talks about personal responsibility and is a shining example of it. Obama and Michelle who invested the right way, in their own educations that nobody could ever take away from them and that could yield them quite a fortune if they were to leave politics.

So many criticize Barack for not being edgy enough...too cerebral... not emotional enough, not common enough. Well, the reason that we are in this mess is because of people who are overly emotional, impetuous, impulsive. When I look at Barack, I see and hear my grandfathers voice and that is very comforting to me. Oh, by the way, back in the 20's, it was a black doctor who saved my gradfather's life. Though my grandfather was a carpenter living in a rather segregated community, he never forgot this man's skill and compassion and he never again sat idly by while people uttered racist comments.

Let's get back to fundamentals and go back to basics. Books, savings, hard work, throw the bums out, responsibility, and compassion for our neighbors... they served us well for so long.

Yes, the admin wants to keep Dems out of Congress and the White House just like the Catholic Church wants to keep women out of the priesthood... why? Because women will tell and not look the other way when children are being abused. The reps want to have their way with the American public and their run-away greed loathes anyone who questions them or attempts to curtail their activities.

I am a moderate, swing voter but I am mad as hell. Yes, the RNC is not the party of Lincoln or Goldwater any longer. They are the "borrow and spend crew"... 100 times worse than the "tax and spend" crew that they like to rant against.

God bless you, Obamacan, for caring so much about this country that you will not let party affiliation get in the way!

Barack needs to watch the lofty language in the debates

In the debate on Friday night, I hope that Barack will include some language that every American will understand (a very successful strategy used by Reagan and we all know that it worked).When talking about Phil Gramm, the author of McCain's economic policy, Barack should refer to him as "Foreclosure Phil". We must give the American public some soundbites because attention spans are so short and people do not remember Barack's well reasoned and articulate points.Barack would probably never stoop to labeling a person but it is imperative that he do that now as people fear what they do not understand and so many still do not understand Barack when he speaks on important issues.Remember, the best debates are marked by one liners and pithy statements, not by necessarily the best arguments... the opposite of what every good debate coach teaches. You can be sure that McCain will have plenty of these up his sleeve as he is incapable of point-counterpoint format and is a rambling old fool.It also would not hurt to mention that by looking to Phil Gramm on ecomomic matters, McCain was effectively putting the fox in charge of the hen house (and old expression but people need these metaphors in order to really understand the situation.)

Respectfully... do you think that the McCain campaign putting Obama in an ad with Britney Spears and Paris Hilton is "decent"? Come on, we all know that if he could have made that point by putting Brad Pit, George Clooney, Oprah, Denzel Washington, Meryl Streep, Celine Dion or any of a hundred Hollywood liberal loons in that ad, but they chose 2 vacuous, young, pretty white girls and added a couple of phalic symbols(the Washington Monument and the Victory Tower) to boot...you know, to paint the image that would irritate the average white person who shakes their head, "tisk, tisk" whenever they see a black man with a pretty white girl.

Or how about the McCain ad that states that Barack is in favor of teaching sex education to kindergartners when we all know that what those lessons will be is information to protect themselves from predators.

Obama was above all of the crap, and then average Joes said that they would not vote for him unless he swung back... and now he is... though he really does not have a taste for nasty politics.

If you think McCain does not have a bigotted bone in his body, then you are very naive and you need to go back and review his arguments against Martin Luther King holiday. I am a white, middle aged person and I am seeing bigotry in this country everyday, covert and overt... McCain is just so McNasty that he prefers to be covert about it... you know, like throwing a rock and hiding your hand.

That diabolical, tubby, little dough-head, Karl Rove, is about to do it again.... He is selling us a dubya in drag but this time he has found one with who is more eloquent. Americans are so emotional and so it worked with Dubya and it will work with Palin if we let it.

The similarities between Dubya and Palin are striking:

1. Both exercise about 2 hours a day... how nice but isn't this excessive when you have a country and children with needs?

2. Both have a very simplistic view of the world... black or white... you are with me or against me... I can do whatever I want and do not need to conserve or be thoughful about God's creatures, the environment or our finite resources.

3. Both do not care much about higher education. Palin went to 5 colleges just to get a 4 year degree... Yale accepted Dubya because his dad was an alum. To this day, Yale probably regrets that admission because he is a great embarrasment.

4. Both will pee on your shoes and tell you it is raining like Palin imposing a sales tax on everything and then getting rid of the personal property tax. Bush with his constant lying and manipulation to get his war in Iraq and all of his big business interests covered.

5. Both are narcissistic... read "Bush on the Couch" and it will explain his sadistic streak. I do not know where Sarah gets her distorted view of the world but will will find out if we live through her term as she seems to embrace the end of days theory.

6. Both are Pseudo-Christians... telegraphing to the world that they are righteous all the while they act with extreme arrogance and disregard for the truth.

So, you see, Karl Rove is going to the same well and this time we have to be smarter and let everyone know that that one is poison. Good God, the republicans talk about cool-aid...

Psychologist say that Dubya is a self-loathing dry drunk who has ascended to the presidency just to prove that he is "good enough" since Daddy and Babs Bush were not so good at nurturing. Gee, I wonder if Daddy Bush, ran his home like he did the CIA... if so, no wonder Dubya is the mess he is. Dubya has a sadistic streak.

As for Palin, she is in her own little world...now we know that she has a tanning bed in her home... how nice...and in pictures, one can easily see that she gets french manicure and pedicures... really nice. Taking care of oneself is one thing but this woman is positively narcissistic. Most of the working moms I know can hardly have time to shave our legs and this woman with 5 kids thinks she can effectively have a 100 hour per week job with extreme stress AND that she can effectively parent her children... who cares if Todd is wonderful we'll see how well he does with less attention too.

Again, Dubya and Palin have a lot in common... the trait that is the most dangerous to us as American citizens is that neither has a good grip on reality and for that we are paying dearly and we will pay even more dearly if Palin gets in because of her grandiose self image. We have all seen this personality trait before- Hitler, Napoleon, Cheney, Bin Laden... pretty scary, huh?

And when a republican is desperate to fool the public, who do you call? Karl Rove!

McCain is up to old tricks by saying that Barack received lots of money from Freddie and Fannie but this is not entirely true. In making donations, one has to give the name of their company and over $100 K was given to Barack from those firms... my guess is that the employees knew they were going down and they wanted to get someome in the presidency who is not a simpleton to head up these complex problems. So McCain, with the help of Karl Rove again, is twisting the truth again to damage BO.

I imagine that thousands of GM employees have donated to Barack also, but nobody blames these individual employees for GM's poor leadership decisions to drag their feet on CAFE standards... nor should we.

OK, we've all heard McCain dismiss Barack's view of the Iraq war because Barack has no military experience. Excuse me, but it seems that you have missed a major lesson in history, Mr. McCain.

How do you exprect us NOW to continue to aid the Iraqi government when our our economic system is on the brink of collapse. County first, right... and so... if you really believe that, McCain, the next words out of your mouth should be that you are calling for an automatic withdrawal of all US forces from Iraq. We may need increased forces in Afghanistan to try to finally get Bin Laden... if that is even possible, due to so many blunders by the gang who cannot shoot straight... but how dare you stand your ground and say that we need to continue poring lives and money down that black hole.

Worse yet, this financial disaster has weakened our country. We are like over-ripe fruit that are ready to fall off the vine. China owns us, Russia is severely irritated with us, and Iran is licking their chops over this internal strife that they know has weakened us. This American tiger is very sick and not very ferocious right now. How patriotic is it for a person like McCain (who knows better because of Keating 5) to have embraced and endorsed the policies of a person like Phil Gramm who is probably singularly the one person who is most to blame for this fiasco because of his intense desire for deregulation and less transparency in the subprime market. Good God, with a guy like Gramm as your ecomomic policy author, McCain, maybe you should consider a person like Abramoff to be in charge of your campaign contibutions... I hear he has lots of time on his hands these days. Gramm's wife was even on the Enron Board with Ken Lay. Birds of a feather flock together!

No matter what, Barack needs to be careful as so many of the hateful republicans have finally gotten over trying to spread the rumor that Barack is a muslim... now that that myth has been debunked by the press. So now the same liars are telling everyone that Barack is a socialist, Marxist, etc. Of course, we know he is not but the BO campaign needs to work harder to get the surrogates out there refuting that lie. Just because a person does not believe that capitalism should run amok and enable destructive greed does not mean they are a socialist. If anything, with the airline industry and the financial industry we have learned that deregulation only works if we do not have viciously opportunistic, greedy people. How eutopian is that to think that we will never have more people like Gramm? We always will and so now is the time for Barack to step in as Medicare and Social Security are sure to have similar fates if we do not have a person who has the IQ and integrity to lead us out of more pending disasters.

Barack needs to tie this wallstreet meldown to the antics of "Foreclosure Phil" and people like Gramm who believe that oversight should be done away with so that these greedy people can be free to have their way with the American ecomomy. I have even heard that Gramm's wife was on the Enron board with Ken Lay. McCain must think we are all so stupid that we would miss these unsavory connections.

For so many years, regulation was such a dirty word. Republicans pushed their myopic view that if markets are left alone to seek their own level, that we would all be better off. One thing that the free market cannot correct for and that is GREED... such as we have seen on the part of predatory lenders.

Even with the prime examples of deregulation run amok- the airline industry, the lending industry and the oil industry- people will still have a hard time buying Barack's ideas for increasing over-sight and regulating these industries. Why? Because so many ill-informed people view government involvement or regulation of any kind as socialism.

Barack needs to get out in front of this and seek a stance in the middle, that is, over-regulation is expensive and wasteful but regulation in itself is a good and necessary thing and it is certainly not socialism. I heard that the state of North Dakota is looking at starting their own oil refinery to process the oil that will be coming from the Baken-Shale Reserve. Are the people in North Dakota socialists????

So clearly, this is a good time to draw out the differences between the economic philosophies of Obama and McCain and, above all, BARACK NEEDS TO EXPLAIN THAT HIS SOLUTIONS FOR THESE PROBLEMS WILL WORK AND THAT HE IS NOT A PROPONENT OF SOCIALISM.

From what I see, those who are not voting for Obama are most concerned about his "socialistic philosophies" whereas, the rest of us know that that label is obsurd. In my view, if this is done appropriately, Barack could gain 10-15 points in the polls.

Finally and ad that attacks McCain for poor judgement!!!

Now that we have the latest gift by McCain, telling us that the "fundamentals of our ecomomy are strong" we had better make some more hay out of it. The ad that I saw today was good but not strong enough. My biggest issue with McCain is that he would even think of hiring "Foreclosure Phil" as his chief economic advisor and co-chair of his campaign given the heinous mess that the mortgage industry is in... and Gramm pushed to reduce regulation and transparency in the lending market... and now look what we have on our hands. That was, in my opinion, an insult to our intelligence, that McCain would let that go and not think that anybody was going to have a problem with that. Fortunately, Gramm's freudian slip doomed him or he would still be there. Isn't anybody also concerned about McCain's chief advisor on foreign affairs, Randy Schoenneman (Sp?), who allegedly took $830,000 from the Georgian govenment. Is this not conflict of interest? And so when the Georgian's started killing Russian peacekeepers, are we surprised to hear McCain place the blame squarely on the Russians when there is more to this issue than meets the eye. Barack made a big mistake for staying in that church for 20 years but that affiliation did not put him in a position whereby people might need to call in his marker or pay for favors. Yet, Obama was and continues to be pummeled for that mistake while the press seems to downplay this lack of judgement on the part of McCain.I think in Barack's next ad, he should call Gramm, "Foreclosure Phil" and mention that if Gramm did not insert his own expensive shoe in his mouth about the whiner comment, he would still be McCain's chief ecomomic advisor. He thinks we are all fools... show him that you are not a fool and that you will not allow rich Republicans to deregulate industries just to accommodate their own greed.I am personally not a fan of big government but we have several examples of deregulation that have caused chaos and inefficiency; deregulation has hurt the airline industry and it has caused this terror on Wall Street. Obama has the intellect we will need to address these monumental problems... how can someone who is 5th from the bottom of their graduating class possibly have the ability to make sense of these complex problems? Another reason that we cannot afford another Bush and McCain and Palin as they are just like George. We cannot expect simple people to solve complex problems.

An interesting candidate knocked on my door yesterday. He was a retired physician and he is running for a state's assembly position in my state of WI.

Without looking to see if he was a Rep or a Dem, I thought, "OK, let's see what this guy has to say... he already has passed one criterion for being in public office, he is obviously an intelligent person if he went to medical school." So I threw a bone at him to see how he would take it and this would tell me if he was someone who was worth considering. I asked him, "What do you think of Gov. Palin"? His answer was very telling. He told me that he thought that she was an excellent choice. I challenged his decision making. I said, I see a rub here for you. You are obviously a very bright person having made it through med school and hard working too as I know getting through med school is grueling. How is it that a person such as yourself, would accept someone with so little education... a 4 year degree which she acquired after attending 5 colleges? How is it that a scientist, which you have to be to be an MD, would have respect for someone who does not respect science to the extent that she would favor shooting wolves from airplanes for sport. If you are a scientist that is worth their salt, you would know that ecosystems are very delicate and while God and nature intended animals for all creatures to have predators, he did not intend that humans would be reckless and destroy creatures just because "we can."

I asked him his position on abortion and he was very proud to be"pro life". I have no problem with that but I asked him if his daughter was raped, could he really be objective about that and could he really accept the fact that Palin is against abortion even in the case of rape and incest. He did not seem as dug in. Then I asked him how he felt about the fact that the hard right is trying to tell all of us that chemical contraception is abortion. He said that the pill is not abortion because it prevents ovulation. I told him that I am glad that he is a doctor because maybe he can explain that to the religious right (which Palin is a part) who seeks to paint all of these effective birthcontrol measures as abortifactants. I could tell that he did not expect that people would challenge him on that.

I gave him a chance to talk about his conservative fiscal ideals. I told him that I am all for balancing state budgets and rooting out wasteful spending... but if you really do care about saving government money, you should be all for strengthening schools in lieu of building new prisons, in getting MA to cover birth control to do as you say, "save the gov money" by decreasing welfare and human service costs, and to investing in green technologies to prevent that transfer of wealth that T Boon Pickens is talking about.

My exchange with this "educated man" taught me one thing... that is the reps, fueled by the hard right (I call them the Christian taliban) really only care about one thing and that is what side a candidate is on with regard to abortion. That is the reason that we got the dolt, dubya, and it will be the reason that we get this political spokesmodel, Palin, if we are not careful.

The reps have made a big mistake!!!

I was kinda worried about the Biden/Palin debates at first. I knew that Jo could take her apart and then her would be perceived as this ruthless bully.

Aahhhhh,,,, but now the Reps have given us a nice gift. They deliberately market her as a baracuda and a pit bull because they think that is what America wants her to be. Well, Joe , you have just been given permission to slam her in the debates. You will still need to be careful and not attack her womanly charms but you are better off now because of the image that they have painted and the image that she gleefully accepts.

Not only is Joe excellent debater, you cannot cram all those extra years of education (law school) and knowledge about the world, it's leaders and complex issues into a 4 year degree, which, by the way, she finally acquired after attending 5 colleges.

Ms. Palin is so myopic... in her own little world, living and leading in one of the least populated states with a simplistic approach to problems... I like it or I don't... and if I don't I will get rid of it... without regard to the future, without regard to how decisions effect other people or God's other creatures.

God help us, what we have here is another dubya in drag, but with a better stage presence and an abiltity to formulate a complete sentence on her own. You know, like the political spokesmodels on Fox news... How sad that the standard is so low that people can say, "See, she can talk... and this is an improvement on what we have now." And it is... but we deserve better.

We deserve someone with not only an ability to communicate. We deserve someone with superior intelligence to attack complex problems.... someone with integrity and intense desire to not just achieve great heights but who will take us all up in the updraft. We deserve someone who is the model of the American dream, who makes no excuses for the wealth that he has finally garnered as he is an example of true capitalism, working hard, achieving excellence and then finally having not only material wealth but integrity and spiritual fulfillment from his endeavors. Barack really does embody the saying, "To whom much is given, much is expected."

Obama may have a small amount of international experience, but Palin has NO international and no National experience what so ever.

This is a real picture of the "CONSERVATIVE" alaska governor. The latest I heard on Ed Schultz' show (Air America) is that Sarah Palin is now explaining why she accepted McCain's offer of the VP post. She is now saying that she thought about not accepting based on the new family/ children's needs issues but she did not want her daughter to have regrets that being pregnant cost her mother the vice presidency.

Rigghhhhtttttt!!!! Hey Sarah, you are frickin 44 years old. You have another 7 election cycles to be on the Rep ticket. This is a bunch of moose s%^t and you know it! Face it, your judgement is majorly at odds with your ambition. I am a feminist and am insulted that people compare you to Hillary Clinton. Comparing you to Hillary is like comparing Dan Qualye to John Kennedy.

Palin's risky decision-making: lay off the kids, this is much better!

Yes, the Palin kids are off limits so we all have to get over that. But what all of you are missing is the news articles in which Sarah Palin brags to the media about how she is a wonder woman because she flew 8 hours when her water was leaking to get home to Alaska. I am sure that she knew that she was violating Air Alaska (and all commmercial airline's rules) about not flying after 36 weeks gestation. Granted, her son came early but when she was at that energy conference in Texas and her water started leaking, she should have stayed put and had that baby in the closest good hospital that was equipped to deal with the heart problems that affect most babies with Down Syndrome.

So here is the rub, Palin obviously knew that her son was going to be born with special needs as the amnio indicated. Most of the babies I know who have Downs Syndrome have low Apgar scores and most of them have heart problems... these are readily dealt with in a hospital setting but if this child were to be born in flight, there is a good posibility that he would not have survived. Further, if Sarah had trouble delivering the placenta, she could have bled to death while in flight... and then she would have 5 motherless children. Further, this being Palin's 5th baby, it is common that babies born to moms with several existing children often come quickly, each more quickly than the preceeding baby, as a rule.

What on earth could have been so important that she would put her baby's and her own life at stake by flying a day before her baby was born? I am a feminist and I think that a qualified woman should be able to juggle the blackberry and a breast pump and should not get grief for it, but only a woman can birth a baby and so maybe she needs to wait a couple of years until she is finished giving birth before she takes on a job that is 100-120 hours a week.

In my view, she compromised something that should never be compromised, the birth of her baby and the well being of her other children who would be without a mother if anything had gone wrong. I want my president to be a sand bagger, a person who prepares for anything and takes precautions to balance risk and benefit. In my view, Palin did not do that and this should be brought out in the press.

The republicans have pummeled Obama about poor judgement by staying in Wright's pews for 20 years but that was not a life and death issue and there was some value in that he wanted to get closer to black culture, which he never really felt part of. The press and the public are so quick to say what a selfless decision it was for her to carry this baby to term but how many would feel that way if they knew that she broke airline rules that no other woman can do and that she put herself and her baby in grave danger just so she could have her way about dilivering in her own hospital, even though she apparently had a chance to get off the plane and deliver at 2 excellent Seatle hospitals. She declined, which was another selfish, bad decision.

Clearly, she sought comfort and security over safety and that can be a real liability if she is ever in the Whitehouse. Further, Palin obviously believes that the rules apply to other peoplel and not her... this is the second example we have of that mentality. God help us!

We have lost a significant window of opportunity with this blog being down for maintenance for 4 days!!! Last week, McCain slipped at one of his town hall meetings. A middle aged woman asked McCain, "How are you going to follow Bin Laden to the gates of hell without reinstating a draft?" McCain's answer was very telling. He said, "I do not disagree with anything you've said." This comment coupled with McCain's statement asking young people to serve in the video below, unearths McCain's true intentions. He wants to go to war with Iran, and even Russia if they do not bow to him and to do that he needs a draft as our poor military people are on their 3rd and 4th tours and we are too overextended to "win" on any front without a draft.

People, people, people we keep making a big deal about McCains 7 houses (that gaffe happened in the same week as the draft comment) but we have missed the comment that could give us a 10 pt lead. Most of my republican and independent friends I know with teenage and college age sons would not vote for McCain if they thought that he would lead a reinstatement of the draft. Call it self interest, if you want, but it is a true motivator and I know that it will put doubt in the minds of these people who will otherwise be voting for McCain.

The media will not show the following video so it is our responsibilty to get this out. You do not have to say much in your e-mail to your contacts. Just something like was sent to me will do...

I have not been able to view any blogs on the main blog for 2 days. I have never seen the maintenance notice up for so long.

Does anybody know when this will be fixed? We are loosing a lot of time and have to rachet up the talk about a pending draft if McCain gets in. The thought of losing our sons in wars that are drummed up by an old, delusional, Napleonic man is enough to pull some of those independents and disenchanter Rebulicans off the fence.

Hey, what the heck is going on with the main blog? There has been a "Doing Maintenace" notice up for almost 2 days now. This is no time for the blog to be down. We need to be making hay on:

1. This latest gaffe of McCain, showing his cards about his intentions of starting a draft. (And Olberman had it wrong, it is not just the young ones who will change their mind about voting for McCain, many republicans with sons that don't want their kids serving for this senile old war monger will vote against McCain.

2. This reverse elist stuff, McCain and all his houses and $525 Italian shoes while Michelle wears a dress that is $150 on the View and the Obama house is barely above average in price for the neighborhood he lives in. Try findig a nice house in that area of Chicago for less than a million dollars... not easy to do!

This draft issue will be a debate question so Barack better be ready for it. Never say never, but we must find outer ways to repair relationships other than sending troops. War is McCain's default. A hammer is the only tool in his toolkit!

Finally, a break that could give Barack a 10 pt lead!!!

Olberman shows footage of McCain on the stump (today or yesterday) in which a woman with a microphone asks McCain, "How are you going to follow Bin Laden to the gates of hell without reinstating the draft?" McCain's reply, "I don't disagree with anything you just said."So now we have this great quote along with the video below, the one that shows McCain asking young people to serve... There is no way that McCain can accomplish his "other war" agenda without a draft.Tonight, Olberman said if the Obama campaign picks this up and run with it, it could mean doubling Barack's lead. I know it will. In fact, when some of my republican friends with teenage sons saw the e-mail I sent them below, several said, they had seen enough and will vote for Obama just on the war issue alone.Cut and paste the link below into an e-mail and send it to all you know. You have to be kidding me.... McCain graduated 5th from the bottom of his USNA class so he is not smart enough to be president. Didn't 8 years of a dolt president give you enough to work with that a person has to be far smarter than the common man to do the job. If you knew any lawyers they would tell you that only the best legal minds in the country can make it to that level. But then Obama's respect for the constitution might be a product of his excellent education and the lack of it explains why Dubya uses our constitution as toilet paper.

Character and judgement you say... explain McCain appointing Foreclosure Phil as his economic advisor and Scheunemann (a lobbyist) who took $830,000 from Georgia and this man is supposed to be a trustworthy foreign policy advisor.

McCain not only cheated on his first wife, he kicked her when she was down as she waited 5 long years for him to come home and then he began cheating on her with Cindy because the accident had left her disfigured and she was no longer the trophy wife,

McCain calls Obama elistis while he is the one who goes around in $525 Italian shoes. Contrast this with Michelle who spent $150 on a dress for a very special TV appearance. Obama's house cost 1.6 mil which is just above average for living in that section of Chicago. McCain has 8 homes and a gambling addiction from all I have read.

Even some of McCain's friends and POW said he can not be trusted and they called him, "McNasty".

Warren may not have given McCain the questions, but he did not exercise the slighest amount of judgement in that he should have had McCain's ass in the building with proctors before Barack's sessions began. In not requiring this, he allowed evil to take root, and it surely did. You can be sure that if McCain went first, he would not have been so loose with these requirements.

I absoltutely love Joe Biden but I feel that he cannot be the VP. His 1988 plagarism charge will become another Reverend Wright and the pitbull RNC smear machine will find many new creative ways to pummel Barack with it. He is also too colorful and spirited... I love that... but the VP has to be far less emotional and has to be pretty much gaffe proof. That being the case, I think it needs to be Sam Nunn (with as much foreign policy experience as Biden) or Collin Powell (He will never accept) or Wes Clark. A woman who is not Hillary will never fly and Barack needs to put Hillary in a high ranking cabinet position.

I also think Chuck Hagel would be a slam dunk but he would need to sign a pledge to continue Barack's pro-life policies if something happened to Barack. I hate to think that way, but I think that people will do many things in the name of religion or what they view is the greater good... you know like the bombings of the abortion clinics. Extremists, fanatics all around... they will even convince an otherwise good man, Warren, to allow cheating in the interest of getting their candidate elected.

Hello troll... nice try trying to back him off this strategy. You are missing the point. His point in doing this is not to attack McCain's advisors who are not his opponent. His point in all of this is that it is McCain's judgement that is in question. You remember, how the rep smear machine kept playing that old record about Wright over and over again and the reps loved it. Well now we have something that is so much bolder and impudent on the part of McCain.

1. Hiring Foreclosure Phil as chief advisor on ecomonic affairs. Kinda like hiring a fox to watch a hen house.

2. Hiring Scheunemann, lobbyist and campaign advisor on foreign affairs. This guy took $830,00 from the Georgians. Why would anyone think that McCain would be an impartial judge with his close affiliation with this man and Georgian administration?

3. Karl Rove, as if the rest of the workld does not know that Karl Rove is the reason that we were sold the imbecile, dubya, how else do you explain the son of a president with just a 30% approval rating, ascending to that position? If Dubya had been a democrat (in which case, Rove would not have touched him)he would not have made it to the first primary debate.

Honestly, McCain has made so many poor choices and judgements about campaign help, what is next, is he going to be bringing Alberto Gonzalez in as ad advisor on judical affairs?

What are you kidding me?

I am betting that this is what happened. McCain's aides listened to the broadcast on the radio or mini tv in while en route. McCain problably did not listen to it so they could escape telling a lie if asked if McCain heard any part of the broadcast, whether on TV or radio. But I am confident that the aids provided McCain with the questions as they occurred. In this way, the McCain campaign would be able to get away from it and keep from telling a bold face lie.

We are asking the wrong question. We need to ask him, "Did any part of your campaign or any person tell you ANY of the the questions before you were scheduled to be on the stage?"

And to the McCain advisors who are indignant about acusing McCain of cheating... Loud, raucous laughter... surely you are kidding us. Ask Carol McCain if McCain would ever cheat!!!! Ask Ross Perot and some of his old miliary friends if they think McCain would be above this.

Yes, I agree that if he is to pick a woman, it should be Hillary. But he really can't pick her because the Reps have the tape of Hillary sayin, "I know that John McCain has the qualifications to lead this country. Senator Obama has a speech that he gave in 2002." If he picks her, the reps will use this in ads all over claiming that even his VP does not believe in him. I think that if not for this, he would pick her. His hands may be tied.

I would vote for Hillary in a heartbeat if she was the nominee. I do not like her pandering... doing shots with people, talking about shooting guns in the gun crowd, but she is an excellent candidate.

No matter what, if Obama does not win, our children and grandchildren will be drafted because McCain will not be happy until we are in WWIII. What does he care, he has one foot in the grave.

So, pleaseeeee.... do help Barack get elected. I am sure that Barack is considering her for a high cabinet position and then the next election will be all hers as she deserves it. But it the meantime, we must stop McCain and put that tubby, diabolical fiend, Rove, out of business for a while.

Many have said that it appeared that McCain answered some of the questions before they were asked... sure did!

I hate myself for thinking this way but as long as Karl Rove has anything to do with this campaign, I will never trust the McCain advisors.

Here is what I mean. I had Fox news on most of the day while I was cooking for an event (I can't stand Fox but always want to keep an eye on them.)The reporters on site in CA said that Barack would speak first for one hour. The male reporter (skinny guy with in his 40s about) said that McCain did not have to be in the building until half the way through the event and then he would be transfered to a room where he would remain by himself. I was aghast when I heard this about McCain not having to be in the building until half the way through Barack's session!!! The reporter even grinned a bit and said, "It is possible that McCain could listen to part of Barack's session on the car radio before coming in... but basically, neither candidate will get to hear the the other." (paraphrasing)

Even if you take McCain at his word, McCain would not need to be the one listening on the radio, his aides could be and then they could tell him the questions... technically not violating any words.

Team Barack, you need to investigate this. Barack did as well as he could have with this audience, but John looked briefed and overly confident, could this be because he knew what those first 10 questions were and that gave him enought confidence that he could relax and be glib.

I just realized a way that we could insert doubt about McCain and the reps in the week before the election.

Around Memorial Day I was cooking all day and I happened upon the HBO series, "Band of Broithers (a moving war mini-series- like Saving Private Ryan). I do not get HBO but somebody very thoughtfully must have bought rights to show the show on other networks- free ones- although I am not sure which network.

I watched the show the entire day and was captive to it. How does this relate to the election in November? Simply... there is another very good HBO movie entitled, "Recount" which is all about the voter fraud and theft of the 2000 election. It stars Kevin Spacey and Laura Dern (as that horrible Katherine Harris creature). I have tried very hard to rent or purchase this movie but cannot because I do not get HBO.

How about this... If we can get the movie 'Recount" playing several times the week before the election, I feel that many independent voters and people who are on the fence will be swayed by it. They might not be sure about Barack but most of them are mad as hell that we got Bush because of voter fraud and underhanded Republican tricks. This can only feed the fire against the Reps and could help tilt the scale with the undecideds. I know, I know, we Dems do not play the same game as Karl Rove and the Reps but we do not know what they have up their sleeve as an October Surprise and so this could really help.

Now get someone on this so that it gets programmed the week before the election... all week! Good luck.

Rove's trip to Europe... Could That Have been to Georgia???

I thougth it was peculiar when I heard that Karl Rove was going to be in Europe, ergo evading a subpoena that would call him in to answer a contempt of congress charge related to his connection to the firing and unhiring of people with democratic or liberal leanings for the US Attorney jobs.

Then, yesterday I heard Tom Hartman on Air America. Hartman brought up an interesting point and that was, "where did Rove go in Europe?" After all McCain has buds in Georgia, and the Georgian lobbyist who gave the McCain campaign $800,000, could it be that there was a pre-arranged liaison in Georgia? We have been told time and time again, that if there is another war, then McCain will win. I don't know but all of this is very suspicious.

I know that the Russians chose wrong in invading Georgia, but then the Georgians, by many accounts were killing Russian peacekeeping troops in days leading up to the conflict.

Is it possible that Rove secretely offered support to Georgia to provoke the Russians? After all, he could have said, "You have been wanted to tumble this giant for a long time so now is your chance. Go get em and we will have your back. It does not matter that Rove is not able to fulfill such a hypothertical promise. What matters is that once the conflict is started, it will be hard to stop and most certainly will not be over before the election. Hence, the ominous warning could become reality... another war starts... Barack is hand-tied from taking a stand either way... McCain comes down hard on the Russians and 50% of the voting public (the same ones who believed in Rove's candidate- George Bush- and are ruled by emotion) votes for McCain to win the election.

Preposterous? If you think so, you do not know Karl Rove. Our country has never seen so much evil, especially when aligned with Dick Cheney.

Let's keep a dialogue going about this... it is the best way to head off the right wing smear/spin machine from trying to make political hay out of this human tragedy in Georgia. Good God, if Barack had taken $800K from a Georgian lobbyist, it would be all over for him. Look how they will not let go of Rev Wright or Rezko, the only things they can get.

A question to ask your republican friends

I have a question that you can ask anyone who still does not believe that the American public has been fleeced by Karl Rove and the RNC in 2000, 2004 and the disception continues today with his coaching of the McCain campaign.

"Why is it that you think that the son of a president with a 29% final approval rating would be a good president?" I have asked dozens of die hard republican Bush supporters that question and none of them had a logical answer... their anwers were completely emotional and factually baseless, such as "Bush is strong on terror." "Bush will control taxes and runaway spending." "Bush is a good, religious man."

Honestly, Karl Rove is really a diabolical genius (I hate to give him that much credit) in that he packaged this dim-witted, fumbling, bumbling fool into a candidate that half of America voted for.

If President Carter (with about the same appoval rating at Bush 41) had produced a son or daughter that set their sites on the oval office, you can be sure that 3/4 of Americans would say, "Are you out of your mind?"

I propose that the difference between these 2 scenarios is one person- Karl Rove. The FOX Network impudently employs him today to further the neocon agenda and anti-Obama propaganda.

So those of you who passionately hate GW Bush, perhaps your hatred is misplaced. Personally, I pity Duby because he is going down in history as our "Stooge President" but if there is anyone that is really worthy of true hatred, it is Karl Rove because he has seen this country fall from greatness due to his own ego-maniacal obsession with controlling the American political process... and there is no end in sight. John McCain should have distanced himself from Rove, just as he did Haggee and Parsley and Foreclosure Phil... but he cannot help himself for being under Rove's spell. After all, if Rove can make a silk purse out of a sow's ear (Dubya) maybe Rove can make McCain into a Collin Powell... or at least Rove is the most likely to try.

Replicate greatness, root out mediocrity and impeach imcompetence.

Corsi Book Will Help Barack, You Watch!

I hate to say it but we may end up thanking Corsi for his impotent attempt to swift boat Barack. Now many of those republicans who have been hanging on to the sinking RNC ship are finally willing to drop into the water to be rescued by the the all-inclusive, reformative, unsinkable ship of hope that Barack has built for us.

The list of thoughtful, responsible, respectful Republicans supporting Barack is growing. I encourage someone from the campaign to post an exhaustive list as that helps us when we are talking with undedided voters and Republicans who are fed up with another Karl Rove campaign. The most prominent that I know about are: Susan Eisenhower, Julie Nixon Eisenhower, Chuck Hagel, Collin Powel but I am sure there are many more.

Perhaps we could use Dubya's own words (wink) to decribe the latest defections from the McShame campaign, "Fool me, can't get fooled again." Thank God for all of those who caught on early and now we can welcome, with open arms, all of the reasonable and principled people who say, "Not in MY America!"

Sadly, if not for the book of lies that pummeled Kerry, we might have a harder time believing that Corsi is a lying bigot. Mary Matelin, for her part in funding this book, should be permanently shunned from all news networks. I wish I didn't have this sick feeling in my gut that Matelin's husband, James Carville, wasn't secretly wishing that the Corsi book would topple Barack, after all he has shown us all that he is a sore loser. I hate myself for feeling that way as I would have voted for Hillary for sure if Barack had not made it to nomination. It is just so sad that this good and principled man who is risking his life to lead our country has to deal with enemies coming at him from all direction...much like Lincoln did. Still he forges on with dignity and grace and an intellect that is a great gift to all of us (especially after Dubya).

Hot Damn! Susan Eisenhower Hits it Out of the Park as a Surrogate

I was watching Fox News this morning to keep an eye on them and they had Susan Eisenhower (Grandaughter of IKE, I think) on and she was speaking as an "Obamacan", a registered Republican who is endorsing and voting for Obama.

The poor vacuous, leggy, blonde news anchor (can't remember her name as I only remember as he skills as a journalist are so marginal) did not have a chance. Susan talked about her grandfather's republican party as the party of fiscal conservatism and restraint. She talked about the budget deficit, waste and corruption in government and several other ways that Obama has shown that he can plan, manage and lead. She gave examples of how he makes more money than he spends and the way that he conducts himself domestically and internationally as being far more worthy of her vote. The leggy blonde sputtered and stammered as she went to a break... :):):)

Honestly, with people like Collin Powell, Jukie Nixon Eisenhower, Chuck Hagel and Susan Eisenhower on Barack's list as converts, this is a great way to over-come the allegations- no downright lies- that have been coming down the pike from the Corsi book.

Way to go, Team Barack... keep putting those Obamacans front and center. I have 2 dozen friends and relatives that are on the fence and these kinds of endorsements will knock some off the fence in our yard.

I have a cousin who went to Harbard Law school. Do you know what type of person gets to be the Editor in Chief of Harvard Law Review... only the best legal minds in the country, that is who. My cousin is a republican but he is voting for Obama because he feels that anyone that intelligent and saavy can certainly put a good team together, much like putting ironclad litigation together time after time after time.

Further, seveal business schools are studying Obama's campaign as an exercise in leadership as he has hit all of the marks and it a beaming example of good leadership.

Compare this man, Obama, with McCain who graduated 5th from the bottom of his class at USNA. Not enough tools in his kit... just a hammer and we all know what happens then.

Sorry, whatever Obama's affiliation with Daley and Chicago politics, it cannot compare with McCain's lack of judgement with the Keating 5 ordeal or with his treatment of his poor, disfigured wife who he left once she no longer had the model figure... for his rich, trophy wife-Cindy. about 8 years ago, I saw Michal Gorbechov speak at a leadership conference in Milwaukee. There were about 15,000 people in attendance and we all came to hear moguls of business and politics speak.

Gorby got a 10 minute staning ovation. I can remember his words as though they were spoken yesterday. He said, "You know when I first met Ronald Reagan, I did not think we would ever be able to work out our differences. For starters, someone asked me what I thought of Mr Reagan. I told them that he was nothing but an old dinosaur. Then they asked Mr Reagan what he thought of me. He told them that I was nothing but an old communist. From that rocky beginning, we eventually started a dialogue, word by word. Eventually, we began to trust each other, and then we started to respect each other. And now we even kind of like each other."

How did we get to this place? How is it that most of the world does not trust us and laughs behind our backs because we are led by a group of keystone cops.

The reps may mock Obama's European trip and some may wonder if the timing was appropriate. I can read the posts over there but cannot blog as I have been blocked for getting into tiffs with neocon bullies. They have a tread about Edwards today. I read every post and they are all filleting Edwards... I want him out of my sight too... but they are real hypocrits because not one person has brought up McCain's treatment of his first wife, who he discarded for Cindy after his wife was in a disfiguring accident (no longer a trophy wife).

If you compare the two candidates and their conduct in this race thus far, it is quite clear that John Mccain has the upper hand in the number and intensity of surrogates that hit the air on his behalf every day. Having Rush, O'Reilly, Sean Hannity etc is a great asset but those are classic Republican surrogates who will bat for the Republicans even if Donald Duck is the nominee. I am referring to folks in the campaign and the party who are batting hard for Mccain. Comparivitely speaking, the number is far less on the democratic side. We have not seen much of popular and powerful Hillary surrogates hit the air much on behalf of Barack. Neither have we seen much of the senators, congresssmen, Governors etc going at John Mccain on cable.

Yes, It is very clear that we are outnumbered on surrogates. Further, McCain surrogates are being coached by Karl Rove, the diabolical fiend who packaged and sold us Dubya. Further, I like Hillary but will never vote for her in the future if she does not stop pushing the knife in Baracks's back... the one that Bill has put there. These people are going to lose us this election and then their names will be mud and we will be in WWIII with Iran and Russia, with McCain at the helm.

I watched Hannity's America last night to see what he is up to... crazy, nepolianic little leprechaun man with an inferiority complex... sorry, I can't stand the guy!

I was watching to see if the Edwards affair came up. What is important to me is not that we should continue to stir America's appetite for filth, but that we get some parity on the issue of character when it comes to criticizing a person who was a strong contender for the presidency.

On Hannity's show on Friday night, Hannity said or Edwards, "If you cheat on your wife, are you going to be honorable to your country?" Then last night on his show, there was no mention of the Edwards affair until the last moments of the show when he talks about issues with two political strategists. Just as expected, Hannity launches into an attack on Edwards. The one female strategist got a line in, saying that McCain cheated on his first wife and he quickly cut her off saying that that was after 5 years in prison and they had both changed a lot during that time. No sh%t, Sean, they had both changed a lot... mainly Carol was no longer the swim suit model that he married. McCain even said so much in his book, "She was no longer the woman I married". McCain's poor wife was horribly disfigured and she lost 4 inches in height. If McCain had to push her around in a wheel chair, he did not sacrifice long as this champion of a woman proved that she is the one with character in that family, as she worked night and day to get her health and vitality back and eventually went to work for Nancy Reagan, performing her job quite admirably, according to Reagan. Poor, poor John... no longer had the trophy wife so he set his sites on Cindy and the rest is history.

Republicans like Hannity and Limbaugh (oh there is another one who should be talking about fidelity!) do not even realize how stupid it is that they beat this Edwards issue to death. A thinking person would want it to die down, lest people open the issue of McCain and especially the issue of kicking a good woman when she is down... just like Edwards... who does not deserve to be president... but neither does John McCain!!!!

We need to get more saavy political strategists talking about this. The woman on Hannity's show was a mouse, saying... "I am not judging John McCain but he did have an affair on his first wife." Dummy!!! The issue is NOT just that he had an affair, it is that he turned his back on someone who was suffering miserably (23 surgeries Carol had) and she could have divorced him, like many women did when they could not wait for their POW husbands anymore, kids to raise and a need to move on. Carol did not deserve to be treated that way!

I cannot help but think that that group of middle aged women who say they are voting for McCain would be repulsed if they knew the whole story. The only thing that many of them know about McCain is about the "undfounded" New York Times article in which McCain was accused of an affair with a lobbyist. Many of these women view that as the Dems dishing dirt. I wonder what these voters would say if they knew more about the way that John treated his first wife, after all, many middle aged women have been treated the same way by their husbands. You would think. they might not vote for McCain if they knew the whole story.

Help get the word out about John's true character. As Ross Perot says, "The only person in that family with character was Carol." Is this a man who should be president???

Resonding to criticism of Barack's European Trip

Responding to Laura Ingrahm's criticism of Barack's European trip....

If you are not a man of good will, how can you expect good will from other nations? One of the reasons that Iraq, Iran and Russia thumb their noses and do whatever they want, is that they have NO respect for the one super power that once was a strong and principled nation.

You can thank Dubya for that, no integrity, dumb as a rock. Worse, they must think the American people have lost their minds to elect such a dolt and the diabolical Cheney who is as devious as any current dictator in the world.

Obama's trip to Europe showed the world that we are now ready to enter a new phase, that we are ready to be world partners again... that we are not ALL just arrogant, dim-witted people who think the world revolves around us. The timing of Barack's trip was PERFECT, as at least now, we know that we have a chance with Europe again to form a closer alliance to thwart aggression in the world...that is if there is anything left of a world when Dubya gets through with it.

Years ago, after the fall of communism in the Soviet Union, I had the priviledge of hearing Michal Gorbechov speak. He was in Milwaukee at a leadership convention. He got a 10 minute standing ovation from the crowd of 15,000. I will never forget his words that he said when asked about Ronald Reagan. He said, "We started out as absolute enemies. People asked me what I thought of him. I said that he was nothing but an old dinosaur. They asked him what he thought of me, he said, he is just an old communist... from that day, we looked each other in the face and word by word we started a dialogue. We did not trust each other yet, but in time, we began to trust and then we finally began to respect each other and even kind of liked each other before it was all over."

Fast forward to today and look at all the ground that has been lost internationally in the past 8 years. I am personally embarrassed and ashamed of this county's leadership. I want to be proud again.

This is such a crock that McCain even dare to try to label Barack "elitist" when McCain was photographed recently with $525 Italian shoes. Honestly, McCain owns 8 homes and Barack has a home only slightly above the median housing price for a Chicago suburb. Hell, I live in rural Wisconsin and my house is worth $500K... I would hope that a presidential candidate could afford a house that is worth 3 times what I have.

It all smells of Karl Rove. And it is so interesting that he chooses this tactic. After all, his boy Dubya came from a life of priviledge and entitlement... some even say that he would not have gotten into Yale withouth His dad's influence and possbibly, his endowment. Dubya's girls attended private schools most of their lives. And Dubya labeled himself "the education president"... what in the hell would he know about public education? I digress, but you get the idea.

The dems did not launch the elitist attack on Dubya, though they should have, but Rove and the RNC have the gaul to infer that Barack is elitist. Maybe they are the ones playing the race card... maybe a black man who rises to a high station with one of the best legal minds in the country is considered by this crew as an aberation, or even uppity... and so they want to knock him down where THEY think he belongs.

I make this charge as a middle aged white woman. Yes, those people are bigots and they are afraid of an person of color that is a total enigma to them. They can deny it all they want. It is true.

I know that many of you are sick of hearing about the Edwards affair. We all love and respect Elizabeth and want that family to heal. However, I was very disappointed to see that there was no Meet the Press today (Olympic coverage is good but Meet the Press is more important right now.) That means, the one venue where questions about the Edwards - McCain affairs would get asked, was gone this weekend.

Again, it is not so much that McCain and Edwards had affairs, which demonstrated faulty character, it is the fact that they kicked their wives when they were down, which turns the stomach of fair-minded Amercans, especially older women,... you get where I am going with this.

On Friday night, Sean Hannity (who I only watch to see what he is up to) said about the Edwards affair, "If you cheat on your wife, are you going to be honorable to your country". Good question, Sean, why don't you ask John McCain that question? Someone needs to rub Hannity's face in the dirt by asking this question. There are several AP reports on McCain's treatment of his first wife, Carol who he cheated on with Cindy while Carol was recovering from horrible disfigurement from an accident. McCain told reporters that "Cacrol was no longer the woman that she once was." Really??? What you mean, John, is that Carol no longer had the model's body that you feel in love with... aren't you deep?

Air America hosts, Oberman, Abrahams better get all over this or this is going to be burried like every other rotten thing we know about this man. Further, is this does the older woman vote away from McCain, I do not know what will.

So those who are getting sick of this topic... sorry, but can you put up with it a while longer so that we can serve a dish of payback to the McCain camp and get some more votes for Barack.

It also provides more details about Cindy's addiction and theft of narcotics.

Finally, someone with a penchant for reporting has stepped up to document the shady life of the McCains. Now you know why the far right is holding their nose to vote for him... but he is a republican just the same, complete with Rovian tactics. Thank you, thank you... The republican smear merchants are viewing this blog and these trolls are working hard to keep the Edwards affair from resurrecting questions about John McCain's morality... since John had an affair with Cindy when his own wife became (no longer the trophy wife) severly disfigured from a car accident.

I know so many people who would not hold it against a person for having an affair so much... but they are repulsed when they learn that a person like Edwards, McCain and Gingrich cheated on or left their wives in the face of horrible illness and/or incurable disease. That is kicking a good woman when they are down and it violates nearly everyone's idea of morality and decency.

Barack CANNOT touch this issue or it will be viewed as politically expedient... but it is our duty to unmask this phony, John McCain, who might have the courage to fight heroically, but is a low-life when it comes to his own responsibilty and his treatement of his wife who could have divorced him while he was gone those 5 years, but instead stayed loyal to him. Her lesson and Elizabeth's must certainly be, "No good deed goes unpunished."

Last night I tuned into Hannity and Colmes to see what they would be saying about the Edwards affair. Sure enough, Hannity was all over it, saying "If you cheat on your wife, are you going to be honorable to your country?"

Hannity has a typical right wing wacko deficit in that he is incapable of holding 2 thoughts in his head at once. He does not see how hypocritical his attack of Edwards is. (As for me, I am personally outraged at Edwards and feel that his public life should be over and that he should have no place in Barack's cabinet... not because of the affair but because it so low that he would do this when his wife was and still is full of cancer and that her days are severely limited.)

Hannity brought up what he thought was injustice in that the New York Times article that infered that McCain was having an affair with a lobbyist several months ago... how wrong that was... and he drew a comparison about why McCain was subjected to that grief... which was untrue... and how Edwards is supposedly going to get soft treatment by the press.

Well, Sean, you have a very short memory. The fact is that you are looking at the wrong example of McCain's infidelity. That recent charge might have been untrue, but there is a very true, well documented account of John McCain's infidelity and it is erily similar to the Edwards affair, except the McCain "Bury Brigade" has kept it off the radar... until now.

When John came home from his 5 years of capitivity and the war, he found his loving wife and mother of his child, waiting faithfully for him. After a year of living together again, his wife was in a horrible car accident that left her terribly disfigured and she lost several inches in height. Around this time, John met 24 year old Cindy (John was 42) at a dinner party and he chased her around a dinner buffet (says Cindy who is so vacuous that she didn't even realize how bad that sounded when she told an interviewer). The two began their affair and John divorced his wife soon after. Nancy Reagan would not even speak to John for years because she loved his poor wife and felt that it was unconscionable what he had done, leaving his wife when she needed him so.

So THIS is the affair that should be compared to Edwards' indiscretion...not the "unfounded affair" that allegedly occured several months ago. This account about his treatment of his first wife was mostly substantiated when GW Bush and Rove wanted to squelch McCain in his run for the Rep bid for the presidency in 2000. Dubya even called McCain an "adulterer" and there were years of bad blood because Dubya dared to dish dirt on a fellow republican. (We all know that Dubya, at the encouragement of Rove,would dish dirt on his own mother if it got him elected so some of us were not surprised by that!)

So if we have any members of the press reading these blogs... you now have open season on McCain regarding his affair with Cindy. Perhaps in the past, this might have seemed too biased and old news but now you can bring this to the light of day because of how erie it is that Edwards has done the same thing... done the unforgiveable thing of kicking a good woman when they are down. If you make character an issue, most people think you should have a good one to start.

Barack surely cannot address this issue and it is not safe for him to even talk about it. But now the press can have at it without looking biased and we can maybe serve up some payback to people like Hannity, Limbaugh, and others who have basically said that McCain's character is above reproach. But if one wants to be even-handed, they need to pitch this as more an issue of deserting and abusing loved ones than the infidelity issue, which is bad enough but not the reason that I am writing this.

Defense against the charge that Barack is a socialist

I am getting sick of the right wingers (and many indepedent voters) trying to paint Obama as a socialist. Well, if his ideas and vision sound like socialism, it is only by comparison to the greedy monster that has fueled unbridled capitalism these past 8 years. Think about it, we have not seen this level of contempt for the constitution, rampant corruption and corporate maurading in decades...where greedy subprime lending and unscrupulous investors and oil speculators have nearly tumbled our once strong economy.

Barack is no socialist. He came from humble beginnings and is considered one of the best legal minds in the country (as the editor in chief of Harvard Law Review). His earning potiential is very high... at least $1 million a year, especially if he just got a normal law practice. Michelle's is very high too. Her story is humble as the daughter of a Chicago public works employee. Why would 2 people who have worked so hard to make something of themselves aspire to be socialists? They are smart people and surely they would know that in a socialist government, wealth is equalized. In other words, all that they themselves have worked for, they could be denied.

So if people continue to try to tell you that Barack is a socialist, tell them that anybody who is for justice, fairness, and accountability is going to look like a socialist compared to what we have experienced these past 8 years. But it is all in the comparison and Barack will benefit from our capitalist system one day... he just choses to make less money and risk his own life to lead this country back to equilibrium.

Yes, the McCain campaign is very bold. How bold is it in an election year with the worse ecomonic blight since the depression... with the masses furious at corporate marauders, predatory lenders and unscrupulous invesment brokers who spead false rumors about companies so that they can benefit by selling short... with all of this known strife.... why in the world would John McCain EVEN THINK about appointing Phil Gramm as his chief economic advisor and co-chair of his campaign??? Gramm's wife was even on the board of Enron, for God's sakes... I will tell you why. Because he thinks the American public is stupid, that is why. And if not for Gramm's idiotic whiner remark, he would still be there. John McCain having judgement to lead, I think not... not if you cannot hear the pain of the American people over the issue that is nearest to their heart and appoint an advisor who gets it! Fireclosure Phil was part of the problem!!!!

I do hope that Barack uses this lapse in judgement to rip on McCain in the debates. In other words, part of being a good leader is surrounding youself with the best and brigthest, without fear of upstaging or intimidation by their strengths. George Bush 41 was poor at the choosing peoeple with intelligence and integrity (Dan Quayle was not going to outdo 41) and Dubya was worse (Harriet Myers, Gonzo, Brownie). Barack may have stayed with Rev Wright too long, but his affiliation with Wright was only hurting himself, nobody else. It could have recked his career, nobody else's... but McCain's alliance with Gramm could have tipped the cart such that our economy would not recover for 20 years and so that decision would impact us all! I know, I know that Gramm stepped down after the whiner remark, but Barack has to beat McCain's brains in with his decision of Gramm in the first place. The decision to appoint Gramm was like knowingly inviting a pedophile to your child's birthday party... sorry if that example is too harsh but I cannot think of much that is worse than what McCain did by appointing Gramm in the first place.

Press can equate Edwards' indiscretion to McCain's affair with Cindy.

A year later, his former wife was seriously disfigured in a car accident which left her several inches shorter and in a lot of pain. It was at that time that John pursued Cindy (by Cindy's own admission chasing her around a buffet at a dinner party) and then John shamelessly divorced his wife and married the beautiful heiress. If you do not believe it, ask Nancy Reagan who would barely speak to McCain when she found out what he had done. She gave the poor woman a job and they have been friends ever since.

I am so sorry for Elizabeth Edwards, but she should have kicked his pretty a$$ out as soon as she found out, instead of standing by him through his run in the primary.

The only good I can see coming out of this is that now the press can rekindle the John McCain affair debate... same theme as Edwards... power hungry, alpha male looking to grafity himself with a beautiful mistress or trophy wife.

Somehow we need to get the press talking about how the Edwards and McCain indiscretions are similar... it makes McCain look bad as there are many Americans who do not know what McCain did to his first wife. Barack can gain more votes because McCain's character is now an issue... though the reps have done all they could to put the story of John's first wife to bed.

If people seek to condemn Edwards... and I am not saying they shouldn't, then they also need to have the same standard for John McCain.

Slick Willie is slicker than ever

For years I defended Bill Clinton when people (mostly Republicans) referred to him as "Slick Willie". Well, I will not be defending him anymore, in fact, I have just lost all respect for him.

If you have not seen his recent interview from Africa, you need to pay attention. When asked if he thought Barack Obama is ready to be president, Clinton danced so carefully... "One could argue that nobody is ready to be president." Then when pressed if he thought Obama had the qualifications to be president, Clinton slying responded, "I think he should win and that he will win..."

What the hell is that???? What is Bill up to with this recent mischief... you know it. If McCain wins, Hillary gets another shot in 2012. If Barack wins, he is most certainly going to be getting another term and so the Clintons cannot make the history they are seeking. This all saddens me so much because I like Hillary and would love to see her as Sec of State or some other cabinet position...

Keep talking, Bill... you have sh%t in your mess kit and now you will need to eat from it!

I saw one of Barack's surrogates on MSNBC this morning. She was there to answer the allegations posed in Corsi's book, "Obama Nation". This is the same author who, along with T Boone Pickens, pulled off the swiftboating of Kerry with a book of outrageous, unfounded allegations about Kerry's militay carreer.

I was very dissapointed in the surrogates answer to the MSNBC person's inquiry (a person who clearly was not anti-Obama and who tried to get this surrogate to put on her muscle and refute this garbage). But the surrogate never really did.... she kept saying... it is all just so silly. She must have said that it was silly 15 times and wasted a very good opportunity to shine sunshight on this blight and kill it once and for all.

Dammit! This kind of strategy is going to lose this election. Why? Because most of the electorate has a very short memory and they are very emotional. The only reason that Dubya was elected and then stayed in office was because the electorate is more emotional (less logical) than ever before in history.

If Barack continues to be so measured, logical and refuses to respond in a way that cuts them to the quick, he will continue to lose votes. Personally, Barack's calm and methodical manner is what I like best about him but I am not a Bubba.

You better have a meeting on the best way to handle this new book and put someone like Congressman Robert Wexler on this right away... you need a pitbull and not the kittens who are making this whole mess worse by impotent attempts to distract people with real issues. Don't you see, their attention spans can't handle real issues while there is all this drama and the electorate loves talking about drama over issues... sad but true, I am afraid.

I was with some of my relatives this past weekend... some of my less educated relatives... and was picking their brains about who they will be supporting in the presidential election. These folks know that I am nuts about Barack but they are resistant even though they are life-long democrats. Then I had a revelation because of something one of them uttered. My cousin said, "Well, Obama is not for domestic drilling and that is what we need right now to help us get over this hump. He went on to say that Obama's ad in which Barack states that he is going to ease the energy crisis by: cutting down on oil speculators, increasing mileage standards and exploring renewable alternatives (paraphrasing) is all that Barack is going to do and that does not include domestic drilling. My cousin took that ad to mean that Obama might be in favor of disallowing cars or penalizing people who do not drive fuel efficient cars. My cousin is a person who is given to immediate gratification and I do not think he will ever take the long view. So clearly someone with a long view is threatening to people who want relief RIGHT NOW even if it means that we continue destroying the planet and are driving Fred Flintstone mobiles in the years ahead because we refuse to do anything differently.

Bottom line, I hate to say it, but Barack HAS to adopt this tactic of being flexible on domestic drilling or he just will lose many voters who put the oil crisis at the top of the list, above the ecomony and above the war.

Barack better define his stance better or this perception that only fuel efficient cars will be allowed on the highways will scare the pants off the working poor and anyone who cannot afford a newer, more efficient car.

I once loved the fact that Barack was not politically expedient. But now I fear that if he does not get more expedient (temporarily) that he will not be elected and then we will not have any of the changes we seek. Do whatever you need to do, Barack. We know that after you are elected we will have the old Barack back... we can wait... just do not let McCain beat you with the whims of the common man who does not know what is in his own best interest, let alone the world's.

Karl Rove- legislative terrorist?

I was surprised when I saw Karl Rove on Fox this past weekend. I thought I heard on Air America that he was running off to Europe to evade the "Contempt of Congress" charges.

OK, so Vince Bugliosi, former prosecuting attorney, is working hard at revealing the facts about Geroge W Bush and has written an excellent book, "The Prosecution of George W. Bush for Murder." I believe that once the election is over, Bugliosi will reign hell on Dubya's ass. People are too distracted right now and he will lose his punch if he pushes too much... especially with Pelosi having taken impeachment off the table over in 2006. But after the election, I will look forward to seeing Bush/Cheney et al prosecuted.

But for Rove,.... don't we have some really good legal pitbulls that can go after him? Can't the Seargent of Arms find him and confine him like was done some 80 years ago?

With the paultry 18% approval rating that Congress has, I see a real opportunity for some legislative people to lead a crusade to arrest and prosecute Rove.... As much as America loathes Bush and Congress, most people see Rove as the diabolical spin-master who packaged and sold us this dud, GW Bush. I believe that without Rove and his penchant for manipulation and deceipt, Bush would have been home at Crawford driving Laura nutts instead of digracing this country. Any legislative or other legal person who is able to contain Rove and serve him his legal come-upings will be regarded as a hero to the American public. Congress, here is a chance to show some gonads and deal with this man, Karl Rove, who should be considered Public Enemy #1 in my book.

But now Rove is at work again. This recent talk of a "withdrawal horizon" as opposed to timetable and "asprirational goals" all smells of Karl Rove... double speak and, sadly, it works on an uneducated public. Come on Russ Feingold and other legislative champions... let's imprison Rove for as long as legally possible. He snubs his nose at our constitution and for that he is as bad as any terrorist, in my opinion. Can't you just hear him laughing at all of us????

Russ Feingold, we need you on this one!!!! Anyone who leads a successful prosecution of Karl Rove should be a candidate for Attorney General, if not in this cabinet, then in future cabinets.

Natasha Bedingfield- "Unwritten" for the Dem Convention

I just caught the end of the Today show a few minutes ago and Natasha Bedinfield was singing "Unwritten". The crowd was electric!!! Her back up singers consisted of about 15 very talented African American men and women and it was so wonderful. The lyrics and aura of that song encapsulate the spirit of change and the need to write our own history.

I do not know what music has been selected for the Dem convention. I love Stevie Wonder but "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" has gotten a lot of play. Wouldn't it be great- inspiring and, perhaps, even symbolic to have Natasha and her company sing "Unwritten" on the opening night of the convention?

I sometimes listen to Savage on my car radio to see what he is up to. In my opinion he is a very mentally ill person and I know that karma will set things right with him... maybe not now... but someday... he will have a grandchild with autism or a loved one will get traumatic brain injury from a car accident... or one of his own "brats" will abandon him in a nursing home on the opposite coast, devoid of a microphone, friend or even visitor who will listen to his myopic, feeble rants. If none of that happens then I think he will be a very good dung beetle.

BTW- I have friends with children with autism and they have been some of the most loving, consistent and thoughtful parents I have known... though their lives were forever changed when their children developed autism.

I have received some replies from bloggers who admire Chuck Hagel but do not think he should be Obama's running mate.

Fair enough... yes, some of his postions bother me... but he is also a Republican in a very conservative state- NB. He voted the right way on the war and some of his constituents put up with him since he leaned right on the other issues they care about- spending,taxes,gay issues (unfortunately). If he did not vote that way on those issues, he would have been out on his ear... his electorate would not have him. I just feel there is a very reasonable and principled man in that body and Obama could bring him out. Maybe too much of a risk as you say, since Barack is risking his life to run and Hagel would be next in line. But I do not think Hagel will ever be aligned with the Rep machine again. He is his own man.

Bare minimum, Hagel should be considered for Sec. of Defense.

Speaking of risking his life to run, Barack is the living answer to the patriotist controversy. No other candidate incurs the level of risk that Barack does in running... and potentially leaving his 2 little children. The Reps make a big deal out of lapel pins and nobody strikes back with, "Excuse me but no other candidate or president has or will incur the level of risk that Barack will in running or holding the office of POTUS." Still he is relentless in his commitment... now that is patriotism!"

I strongly encourage Barack to pick Chuck Hagel for VEEP. I like Biden and the others but Biden has by his own admission, "never had a boss"... or a real job for that matter... since he was elected to the legislature when he was just 29. The reps will pick that apart... besides the old plagerism charges against him You know they will!!! The reps will pick Hillary apart and they were only holding back on her as they wanted her to win the election... now the gloves will be off against both of you if you pick her.

Chuck Hagel has been labeled a traitor to the Reps, why, because he is his own man and has stood nearly alone in his resistence to the war. A war hero and earthy type... not much drama... you can get past his stances on abortion as Barack is also espousing a message of personal responsibilty that includes having less abortions. With increased education, more personal responsibilty and urban renewal, abortions rates will decrease... it is a by-product of self-empowerment that Barack is advocating for.

I must confess that before Barack began his campaign, I was on Chuck Hagel's e-mail list as a possible supporter for his running in '08 but he did not have a chance with no money and the republicans who hate him because he would not rubber stamp their policies like McCain did/ has. Now with McCain and Bush doing a turn around on Afghanistan, like it was their idea all along to beef up Afghanistan and decrease troops in Iraq, Hagel can make the case that he was on the inside telling these baffoons what they needed to do, and they would not listen. He is 100% believeable and has not wavered on anything... The left might not like it but they will get over it once Barack gets elected and Barack can restore the constitution and become our greatest president.

This election belongs to independents and people fed up with political tricks, pranks and spin... that is why Obama/Hagel would be the fresh air ticket.

I believe that Larry's post at 7:43 is right on the money!

The McCain camp and the press have done all they can to play down McCain's cancer. I get so angry when people attempt to minimize his disease as a little "skin cancer." I am certainly not a doctor but it is not a little skin cancer... it is malignant melanoma... and he has had recurrences which makes it even more dangerous. I have known younger people who have died from this disease and it is terrible.

Then to mitigate fears about this cancer ending McCain's life, the spin machine keeps talking about McCain's mother who is very healthy and in her nineties. I am glad that McCain has good genes for a long life but his mother did not spend 5 years in blistering sun in Vietnam. His captors did not pass out sun screen or protect soldiers from the elements in any way; I am sure of that! While I am sorry that McCain had to endure suffering in Vietnam and I do consider him a war hero, I do not agree with the way that he is attempting to fool the public. From all I have read, with those recurrences, he has about as much chance of finishing a 4 year term as George Bush has of becoming a constutional scholar... I am not trying to be glib... but you see my point.

We all know that the majority of neocons will be holding their nose to vote for McCain as he is not conservative enough for their tastes. Could it be, that the upper crust in the Rep party are hedging their bets on the VP? In other words, if McCain does not make it past a year or 2, then they ultimately have the man they really want. You think McCain is another Bush, just wait... what comes after him will be more worse as it could have a brain... eh gads!

Further, remember when McCain was trying to show how brave he was when he was refusing secret service protection... in order to look even more brave... Well, maybe it is not so much bravery as it is that he knows something that we don't know ... that his days are numbered. I am certainly not wishing that but I find that behavior interesting, just the same.

I agree with your post, below. Bush is a simpleton and we have come to expect nothing but short-sighted, simple answers from him. Pickens, on the other hand has made billions as an American oil barron. If Pickens has the way out, why did he wait until the last months of the campaign to pitch this to the American people? Yes, Pickens helped to underwrite the swiftboating of Kerry, offering $1 mil to anyone who could disprove the swiftboat stories against Kerry. But the dems could not mount a defense and refute the charges fast enough and Kerry lost... it was all a negative PR campaign and it worked.

Pickens is reported to be underwriting a book that is intended to destroy Obama's campaign... just like Kerry. He is not to be trusted... no matter what his message is or how sensible it seems compared to GW Dum Dum's plans for the energy crisis.

Now Pickens is trying a positive PR campaign and he is hoping the American public will think he is the greatest thing since sliced bread. The aim of the ads are to make Picken likeable and credible so Americans will accept his message. Then, just before the election, you watch, McCain is somehow going to be percieved as being part of Pickens' plan and McCain will get a free ride on the energy issues and they (the McCain campaign) are betting this will work to bamboozle the American public ... and they will pull off another victory, they are hoping. Look at all the money Pickens is spending on these ads. They are running as often as the candidate's ads. You would think Pickens was running for something. Well, he is... he does not want to lose control of the Presidency or the congress to Democrats who will, no doubt, take this country to "green pasteurs".

Bottom line, no matter how good he sounds, do NOT trust Pickens. He stood by and watched this crisis come to a head, making billions at our expense... he is not the good guy that he projects, in my opinion.

Before coming on this blog last month, I spent time on a Fox Blog- Gret Van Susteren's- to dispell the myths that are being propogated about Obama. For instance, on Gretawire.com, I constantly heard the rumor about Barack being sworn in on the Koran and all of the other untruths about muslim education, etc. I would continue jamming the Gretawire blog with corrections to all of these lies but I got kicked off for getting into tiffs with neocons. They complained to Greta and had me removed. I am telling you all this so that some of you can go over to that blog and continue to correct the horrible lies that are being said about Barack.

The following is an example of the kind of rubbish that is disseminated on that blog. Come on now... we have so many well-read, well-informed people on this blog, won't you go on over to that blog and set the record staight with the neocon cybergangs on Gretawire.com? It is really unfortunate because Greta, though she is on a FOX channel, is more moderate and I am sure that she does not hold these views. I don’t watch Fox…I come here to catch up on the latest smears, smut, rumors, and baseless opinions that Fox is giving it’s viewers. McCain and a possible draft

In reading Deb Henry's post at 9:46 about the escalating trouble in Afghanistan and how the Bush Adnministration gave the corrupt government there $43 Million dollars 6 months before 9/11 to deal with the drug trade... it occurs to me that if John McCain should become president, there will be no other option but to begin a draft. Why? Because McCain will never give up his dream of winning the unwinable fight in Iraq. He has all but said he is going to deal with Iran militarily and then what do we have left to ramp up efforts in Afghanistan? Nothing!

Many military people are already on their 3rd and 4th tours of duty. It was reported that as many as 300,000 now have psychological problems that need to be dealt with and these poor soldiers should not be touching a weapon until, at least, they have had time to heal. How on earth will we finish the struggle... and capture Osama in Afghanistan or Pakistan when our human resources are so depleted. There is but one answer if McCain gets in and that is a draft.

Since a draft takes an act of congress, we sure as hell better make sure that both houses are controlled by the dems or McCain will have willing accomplices in enacting a draft and perpetuating the madness over Iraq and Iran.

All the more reason to elect Barack Obama! We will deal with our adversaries the way that Ron Reagan did... by talking to them... and "trust but verify" policies.

I could not agree more. It is also a great weapon against powerlessness. I cannot help but think that much of what has propelled Barack all these years is a profound sense of abandonment due to his father leaving him when he was just 2. While Barack might have been destined for greatness without all the heartache he experienced, I just can't help but think that embracing education as a way to succeed was his best weapon in dealing with the feelings he must have had as a young boy. His whole life seems to say, "I am good, smart and worthy". Boy is he ever!!!

I am sad that Barack had to experience that kind of pain as a child, but I just think we are all fortunate beneficiaries of that grief. I bet that Barack's father is rethinking his fatherhood NOW! Too late, too bad... he is ours now!

Further, can you think of ANYONE who is more credible on the subject of parental abandonment and responsibility that Barack? Jesse, you were dead wrong to criticize Barack on this... And Barack is an inspiration to all of the fatherless children of this country. There are few ways to deal with that pain. Substance abuse is one, crime another, death another, but education is the only real choice and it gives back. Barack will be our first real education president!!!

More smoke and mirrors

We all saw this coming, didn't we? When gas was rounding $4 a gallon, Bush was caught looking like an idiot again saying... "Is it up that high now?" Duh... he really feels our pain. Now, when he sees the opportunity to make Barack look bad if he does not support lifting the ban...he can blame the congress again and stir up more hated for Congress and Obama. You just know that Bush did this mainly to give McCain a bump and to make the dems in congress look bad. He knew... well, he is not smart enough to think this through but evil Cheney and the advisors will do anything to help McCain seize the election... all smoke and mirrors but America falls for it like the gas tax holiday that will do nothing to improve the oil crisis.

I'll give em this... they know that the average American is short-sighted, emotional, and wants instant gratification (partly how we got into the credit crisis we are in). People who have invested in their own education are better at delaying gratification and planning for the future so Obama is our man.

Barack is in a bad spot, trying to appeal to an electorate which is so hooked on immediate releif when he knows in his heart that SOMEONE has to be the grownup and say, "We cannot have everything we want... we need to make good choices for the future. No offense intended but I am just flaberghasted with what this administration gets away with...

Be very wary of T Boone Pickens ads re oil crisis

You just know that Bush wants to lift the oil drilling ban to give the Republicans and McCain a bump. This is political as hell and designed to help McCain and the republicans who know the American public has a "what ya done for me lately" mantra.

Also related to the oil crisis, I am sure you have all seen the commercials from T.Boone Pickens.
Be very wary of Pickens... he funded a book that is to come out soon that is something like "The Outing of Obama" (If anyone has the actual name of the book, please post it.) that is designed to destroy Barack. Pickens was the one who was in league with Rove to swiftboat Kerry, offering $1M to anyone who could disprove the claim, which the dems could not mount a defense quick enough before the election.

Pickens is trying to come off as a real "good guy" who has all of a sudden abandoned his greed and is committing his money to find the ultimate energy answer. Bullroar!!! Why is he so committed to finding an answer to the oil crisis NOW when he has been in the oil business for more than 40 years and has made a fortune on our backs. You know the reason... because he wants to be seen as a good guy savior, then he will endorse McCain before the election and the electorate will vote for McCain because they think he has the way figured out of the oil crisis which is crippling the ecomony.

We have got to get the word out that Picken is no savior; he is as evil as Karl Rove and Dick Cheney, only more dangerous because he has billions of dollars to spend on ruining Barack.

Barack needs to counter Picken's message just like he does McCain's... This is this election's swiftboat campaign... I am sure of it as I am a middle aged white woman.

I hope we have learned a lot from the swiftboating of Kerry, although in that election the charges against Kerry were untrue. The timing of the swiftboating came so late that the Dems did not have time to mount a defense against it (There are now some 12 veterans who have come forward and refuted the charges and Pickens will not pay up.) What was so deadly to Kerry, is that he did not work up any passion in defending against it and some people think that if you are wrongly accused, then you are indignant as hell and you even search out the press to help you as you know you are innocent. Kerry was too quiet about it and so people thought it was true and that he was trying to wait it out. I know he was innnocent but think about people who you know are innocent, they have an empassioned plea to everyone who can help them. Case in point- OJ Simpson, I knew he was guilty when he was not angry enough... did not plead with the press to help him find who killed his wife, the mother of his children. Further, if someone destroyed my family that way, you could not keep me off the witness stand as I would have an open heart and would plead to the jury to find the one who killed my spouse. He had none of that... guilty!!!!

Barack just has to be so careful as the neocon machine is as bad as the mafia in my book. And Barack will NEVER be labeled "an angry black man" so he can rachet up the passion and indignation a bit more so that average Joes can relate to him more. Not necessary for you and me, maybe, but it was a very emotional, illogical electorate who elected Dubya and so we need to learn from that lesson too. Get angry, not mad- Barack! Love you dearly!

In reference to John Dickerson's comment regarding Bush soliciting donors for his presidential library. I am sorry but it is so wrong to include Bush and library in the same sentence. Better he should solict funds for a spy museum as that would be a more appropriate for his legacy- LOL.

What Barack knows that most of us don't

I am disappointed about Barack's FISA vote as the next person but after seeing Vince Bugliosi's defense of his book, "The Prosecution of George W. Bush for Murder", I am convinced that the Republicans will do anything to win and I would not even rule out a deliberate attempt to provoke or allow a terrorist strike before the election. If Barack had voted No to the bill, and there was such a strike then the election would be over, McCain would win and we would have no chance for change. I was secretly hoping that Barack would vote No to the bill and that the rest of the votes would have been enough to defeat the bill. But that did not happen...

You think that the Republicans would not do something so horrible to ensure a victory? Think again, Well,recently on Morning Jo, Joe Scarborough was reduced to mumbling when he heard Vince Bugliosi's evidence about the premediation of the invasion of Iraq. According to Bugliosi, he has the notes from a meeting of George Bush and Prime Minister Blair, taken by an eye-witness, Blair's secretary. In the notes it is reported that Bush stated that [if the search for WMDs does not turn up anything, we could disguise a UN plane and send it over Iraq and hope that Saddam has it shot down and then would have grounds for invading Iraq.] Bush said this knowing that 16 intelligence agencies did not find evidence of WMDs and, further, did not pose an eminent threat to the United States.

I firmly believe that Barack and his team know more about what the Republicans and McBush are capable of and so Barack had no choice but to vote no and then plan to deal with restoring the contitution after he is elected. There was just no other way so please don't continue to hold it against him and lets unite to get him elected.

Your idea is brilliant!!! Further, even if some candidates had such a skilled, paid research team, they would not be able to articulate the information like Barack as an excellent attorney and orator. You are right, this would be a slam dunk for Barack.

Team Barack, if you are not working on this, then you are missing something that could clinch the election.

Agreed, McCain getting his fingers caught in the cookie jar with Keating 5 and Gramm who is part and parcel of the mortgage fiasco are gifts... they better open them and use them.

If the Republicans had this kind of evidence, they would pulverize us with it... let's not miss the chance to gain some ground here. We will need everything to get past any October surprise that is coming... and you know there will be one, sure as I am a middle-aged white woman.

Black Fathers in American getting a bum rap

Constantine-

God Bless you! I know that Senator Obama is not talking about you or men like you. You are doing all you can and I am sure that some judges are unfair in the way that they treat fathers... Having said that, there are too many young black men who are growing up without fathers and these children are the most likely to seek the security and structure of gangs. And we all know that gangs are a sure way to get to prison or dead.

As to the young girls who grow up without the love and devotion of caring father- research shows that they are promiscuous at an early age and tend to have children at a young age... that they cannot care for and the cycle just keeps repeating.

I am not without empathy for you Constantine, but unfortunately, the majority of fatherless children in this country are African American and I know that Barack has a lot of personal pain about being abandoned by his own father. He was lucky having a mother, grandfather and grandmother to take care of him...many young black children are not so lucky and so they survive the best they can. I am a white woman and I do not want children of any color to have to fight for love, attention, food, shelter... they are innocent and deserve it like the rest of us.

Barack is the best testament I know that a child can overcome their feelings of abandoment and become whatever they want... but parents cannot give up on kids. It is just never their fault.

Don't worry, Barack is not just criticizing black fathers who do not support their children (and I can tell that you are not one of them), he reminds us all of the value of education and has told us from time to time, to get back to basics so that America can compete with the rest of the world by "turning off the computer and picking up the books." I do not know too many people who were offended by that but I am sure that some were. It all comes down to the fact that being progressive does not mean that we throw away common sense and expect that things will just get done.

Keep up the good fight. Those kids will be 18 before you know it.
