For those of you who thought you had the market on prejudice in your home state, how about this piece of work on my Obama sign here in beautiful St. Helens, OR? Done in the middle of the night by an obviously brave and dedicated bigot, this is a prime example how ignorance is handed down from one generation to the next. I do know one thing, I've learned in my 58 years that there is no such thing as an intelligent or brave bigot. It's dead of night with spray paint. Just another example of how ignorance, cowardice and bigotry go hand in hand.

PS- the sign has been restored, and these idiots are about to be dragged into the 21st century kicking and screaming. Let's shine a light in their dark little corners. VOTE OBAMA!!

Why don't I see anyone holding John McCain responsible for things that happened when HE was just a boy?

Does no one remember Atilla the Hun? Or the genocide of the builders of Stonehenge? Or the disappearance of the tribes of South America? Did McCane know those people personally or just live through those times?

Really

Submitted to the Oregonian newspaper:

With the Presidential election fast approaching, McCain has hit the panic button. The negative ads are not designed to sway voters to their side, they are designed to discourage voters from showing up at all. When a pundit tells you that negative ads work, this is what they mean. People are turned off by the negativity and begin to associate both sides as crooks and liars, even though one side is obviously attacking and the other is clearly defending itself.

Republicans see this as a valid strategy and will vote anyway. Democrats and independents see it as repugnant behavior and many refuse to participate. This, and putting themselves in positions where they can omit a percentage of opposition voters, is the true base of the corrupt power we suffer today. It is how the Republican party remains competitive even though they are the smaller party nationally.

Throw in the racially-challenged idiots who refuse to evolve with society, voting machines that will complete the coup if McCain can get it to appear close enough, a main stream media that sells airtime on the premise that the race is close, and a current President that is positioning himself to declare martial law if he can create the right scenario, and what you have is an apparent lose-lose situation.

In the face of all that, I will vote for Obama, none-the-less. I don't just owe it to my daughter and her generation, I owe it to all those generations before who sacrificed so much to get us this far. People will only put up with these transgressions as long as they have personal security. When that security is gone, so is the need to play along.

As Thomas Jefferson said, revolution is not just a right in America, it is the responsibility of a true patriot when the government ceases to be a reflection of the will of the people.

Vote for a peaceful revolution. Vote Obama.

Really?

In the first debate, I kept noticing McCain shielding his eyes to the lights and searching for someone out in the audience. At the time I found this to be very weird behavior.

Last night in the second debate, McCain this time came to the front of the stage, while Barack was talking, stared off into the audience through the lights and raised his hand in a gesture of "what's happenning". This time the weird behavior brings on a feeling of suspicion.

Is the old man using the hearing aid as a debate tool? I not only think that he doesn't have an original thought in his head, but he actually needs someone to remind him of what the old thoughts are through direct communication during a debate.

Review the tape. Both incidents are blatant, the second one being a real "out-there" moment where McCain obviously believed that he was off camera since Barack had the floor.

Really!

I do not write this in some Rovian effort to attack John McCain on his supposed strength, but rather because I tire of the myth that is John McCain.

When someone acts in a way that is above and beyond the call of duty in the defense of his/her country or fellow servicemen, with little or no regard for his/her personal safety, that person is a hero. One can say that anyone who has met the enemy in combat is a brave person, but a hero is a step beyond that.

That John McCain was taken prisoner is a story of personal tragedy. That he was tortured is a story of outrage. But that having been said, he is not a hero.

The fact that he did cooperate with his captors is a matter of record and, in the same position, you and I might have done the same. But the fact remains that being held prisoner in a war does not qualify one as being a hero. Making a concious, (or unconcious some would say), decision to sacrifice life and limb in an effort save the lives of others is completely different than being captured and held prisoner.

Sorry John. You're a brave man in my book. But you're not a hero.

Really?

Is there any truth to the rumor that Ms. Buchanan had a breakdown last night on Larry King?

According to my sources, she began to laugh uncontrollably after having to defend Sarah Palin's answers to Katie Couric's questions. Witnesses said it was an almost painful psychotic laugh.

The second time, after comments by James Carville, her eyes began to water, and she started to gag.

On the final round, after extolling the views of the Alaskan Governor, Ms. Buchanan supposedly threw up offstage and went into a foaming fit. She had to be sedated and held down to keep her from harming herself. She was said to be shouting, "she's the best he could find?!", over and over again.

After a ten minute meeting with Rush Limbaugh, she appears to be acting much more subdued and lucid, and although she is slurring her words more than usual, she will be back on the circuit in no time, according to those closest to her who asked to remain unnamed.

Wow...

Picking today's winner of the King George Imbecile of the Day Award is not going to be easy. I know that we have to wait until after the debate tonight to give Alaska's governor her long awaited shot at the title, but the trolls today are uncommonly unintelligent, even by their standards.

As we wind down these last days of their candidate's hopes for stemming the tide of a full-blown landslide, the faithfully delusional fans of McSame and his incredibly shallow sidekick become ever more outspoken, kind of like a group of auctioneers in quicksand. Humorous and sad at the same time.

Please do not chastise them. Only those who have a solid grip on reality should be made to suffer for their convictions, and obviously they do not rise to that standard. No, let them vent. Losing this contest by such a wide margin must be humilliating. Try to imagine yourself in their place- you have lied to everyone about everything for eight years, and you're just now finding out that no one believes you anymore.

They do not deserve our trust, but we can have pity on them.

There are many out there, medical and otherwise, who have recognized that McCain's appearance yesterday showed signs of having had a mini-stroke. This is being speculated as the true reason for his suspension of his campaign.

I hope the old coot is OK, but it certainly brings his ability to serve into question, not to mention his VP's weaknesses as a standalone candidate.

FANTASTIC IDEA!!

Jamie Drogan and Thomas Kelly, whoever they are, have figured out or been given permission to post with a fabricated time of posting which allows their message to stay in the first position all day long. I have seen this done a couple of times in the last months.

What a great idea!! I will contact my friends, who are internet geniuses, and find out how it is done. Then I will post the method to everyone. Fantastic!!

Can you just imagine? Not just the priviledged or sneaky, but everyone will be able to freeze their post onto the blog ALL DAY LONG!! We won't have to communicate with each other anymore. Just post one message, and BAM!! All messages will stack instead of shuffle through.

Or better yet, why don't we all just have the Drogan's and Kelly's do all the blogging. Just give us access to read it. They are obviously more important and better connected than the rest of us anyway.

What a bunch of eliteist crap.

End of days?

Why is this fascist, dry-drunk, pseudo-Christian imbecile trying to provoke a fight with Russia? Does he really believe that he is the one to bring on the end of life on this planet?

Russia didn't start the war in Georgia. Georgia's President did. He signed a cease-fire on Aug. 7th and attacked South Ossetia later that same night at the urging of George the Imbecile.

Russia called for an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council to condemn the violence, and guess who stopped that resolution. That's right. George the Imbecile!

If Russia wanted to re-colonize Georgia, it would be a done deal. No contest there.

This is an attempt to convince other ex-Soviet satellite countries to join Poland in putting up missle sites around Russia by claiming they are the "evil empire" of the cold war days.

Russia has let it be known that they will not allow US missles on their borders. Period. And unlike Bush the Imbecile, I don't see Putin as the kind of leader that issues empty threats.

This is tragedy in it's early stages. Either Bush the Imbecile is made to back off or we face the ultimate price for Bush the Imbecile's bent vision of our future. (Mutually assured destruction!)

Gloom and doom. Oh, the polls, the polls. Look out. Here comes McShame. Oh no, Hillary's making another run. Blah, blah, blah.

Meanwhile, a Republican congressman from Tennessee just lost his primary. First time in forty years. Why? Because he was seen as too close to big oil companies.

Real people doing real things regardless of what they are being told by the media and the polls.

Imagine that.

Yes, WE can.

Silly Season is upon us again

We've got a bumbling old codger on one side with a wealthy warchest provided by big business that is threatened by change, and a primary loser on the other side backed by a few very vocal hangers-on, and the media reporting it all from a jaded perspective that seeks to make as much money as possible by presenting it all as dramatically as possible.

And here we are, in the middle, panicking at every loud noise in the night. Calm down, people.

The convention will pass. Hillary will, again, pass. Debates will happen. McCain will show his ineptness and not all the money in the world can make him stand on a stage with Barack and not look like a complete moron.

Don't believe me? Check out his ramblings at the biker convention. What a moron.

As promised...

As I reported last week, my sign was stolen from out of my pasture in the dead of night. It was my fault, actually. The dogs did their duty and made plenty of noise to warn me, but I didn't suspect that they were barking at idiots in the pasture. I thought it was a racoon, coyote or bobcat. (More like a skunk!)

Well anyway, in a private ceremony held yesterday, with a christening of Sierra Pale Ale, the new sign was hung for all to see.

We here on this little farmland are determined to stop the ascension of John McCain to the throne of King George, the Imbecile. To that end, we: my wife and I, our daughter, two horses, three dogs, eight chickens and a cat, have formed a new alliance.

It is called: the Organization of Brotherhood Against the McCain Ascension, or OBAMA, for short.

Behold the new sign. A full 4' x 8' statement along a locally busy country road.

It will be protected day and night and violations against it will be met with a swift paintball in the ass. (I bought a used paintball gun on ebay just for such an occasion, an idea that was smiled at by the local police.)

Yes, WE can!

WRONG AGAIN!

I couldn't help but to notice the news ticker scroling across the top of my screen as having a headline of "Mexican immigrant, beaten to death by four youths, exposes racial tensions".

Wrong again, my journalistic sages. The beating death of the man who has lived here for six years is the result of racial bigotry and ignorance. (Yes, I know that is redundant.)

But again we see where, even in the everyday newswire reports, our culture is shown to be one that focuses on our collective wrongs and idiocies rather than reporting the facts and letting the reader decide the reasons. These kids obviously were raised by parents that spoke ill of immigrants at the dinner table, and are the blame for this repulsive attitude.

The actions of a few radical assholes is nonetheless being portrayed as an undercurrent in our society. They are exactly what they appear to be; a group of young bigoted thugs acting outside the law, and not representative of some larger movement afoot. Idiots and bigots are a shrinking number in our nation, but because they do such outrageous acts, they get a lot of attention.

Don't try to sell me on the fact that racial tensions in America are higher just because a few criminals commit murder. It doesn't equate. They are the exception, not the rule.

Do they really think that they can stop me from showing my political intentions?

NOW, A SNEAK PEEK AT THE NEW, AND SOMEWHAT IMPROVED SIGN, WHICH WILL BE GOING UP IN A FEW DAYS AT A PRIVATE CEREMONY! IT'S BIGGER, SOMEWHAT BETTER AND THE DOGS AND I HAVE A FEW SURPRISES ALSO TO BE DISCOVERED.

Last night someone decided to steal my 4' x 8' Obama sign from out of my pasture. Took a lot of work and they had to go through an electric fence to get to it. But not to worry.

I've got plenty of 4' x 8' plywood and lots of blue and white paint.

Idiots. Wait 'til they see what awaits them next time.

I will post a picture of the new sign before the day is over, and we will drag these troglodites kicking and screaming into the future whether they like it or not.

Yes, WE can.

Fake...

I have had to have a conversation with some of the FISA gang. They always want to take one sentence or phrase from a comment and twist it to try and show you as being the negative one.

But the one thing they never, ever do is offer their alternative. Not one of them has thought this through to the point where they can offer any explanation as to how taking down Barack will do anything to restore the Constitution, which is supposedly their mantra. They back no viable candidate, they have no plan for the future and they can only tear down others with no regard for progress of the human condition.

That leaves me with one conclusion-they're all fake. If they had a better way of ending the war, stopping the polution of the planet or making changes to our political system, they'd say so. But they don't. And until one, just ONE, of them comes up with a better answer than Barack, I will see them as cowardly traitors to our country.

Simple as that.

No answer?

I don't understand what end game there is in bringing down Obama.

Do I understand the hurt at his not out-and-out rejecting the FISA bill? Yes, I do.

But what is the end game for those that would do whatever they can to scuttle his candidacy? What is your alternative? There are many that think you folks are simply doing the bidding of Limbaugh, or Hillary or of Nader or any number of plain destructive reasons.

But I ask you sincerely, what answer do you offer? What is your scenario for the demise of Obama's candidacy, if you truly were supporters to begin with and you are so offended by his vote?

What is your alternative to the neocon anarchy and wars and destruction of the planet?

Not one person offers an answer. Only attacks.

Lemmings?

Did any of you ever read Shakespear's Julius Caesar? It was required way back when I was in school.

There's a particular chapter that takes place after the Senators kill him. Brutus goes before the crowd and says he didn't want to do it, but it was for the good of the country. The crowd goes crazy because they love Brutus, and they believe he did the right thing.

Then Cassius gets up and says the famous line, "I come to bury Caesar, not to praise him", and after a speech that calls for vengence for the killing, the crowd goes crazy for him and the army tracks down Brutus and slays him.

The reason for the rememberance is this: those who are now abandoning Barack over FISA are the same kind of people who jumped on Bush's bandwagon for war. They change sides at the drop of a hat. The "big picture" doesn't concern them. They are filled with the sound and fury of the "cause celeb".

They are fickle creatures that will be spouting off about this and that for the rest of their lives without a second thought as to the war, the Supreme Court, the right to choose, health issues or any other issue. They are different from neocons in their philosophy, but exactly the same in their manner; caught up in a movement that is actually counter to their best interests.

How 'bout it?

Yesterday evening, after reading posts that expressed joy that Barack's poll numbers have begun to slip and the FISA gang taking "credit" for it, I asked a simple question:

Are there any combat veterans out there that call for taking down Obama for his vote?

Not surprisingly, not one came forward. You see, the reason those men are going back time after time is that they refuse to abandon their brothers as long as they're in harms way. It's not because they support Bush. It's not to spread freedom. And it's not to protect the fourth amendment.

There's 150,000 of them over there as we speak, being blown to bits, losing arms and legs, suffering life-changing brain traumas and coping with PTSD when they come back after their third or fourth tour in a combat zone. And you FISA whiners are proud of the fact that you're possibly taking down the only movement that would bring them home?

So I ask again, are there ANY combat veterans out there who are involved in this movement in any way? Or are you all just armchair patriots willing to sacrifice the lives of the truly brave so you can run your mouth off in the comfort of your home.

Don't bother answering if you're not a combat veteran. Your reasons are sh*t in the wind if you've never been there. I'm a proud member of Veterans for Peace and will do whatever Obama asks as long as he ends this war. Let's all work to bring home the troops so they can join in the conversation, unlike the 4,000+ who will never get that chance.

Chris from St. Helens, OR

You Fisa Folks make me sick. When I see posts claiming that polling numbers are going down and you proudly claim credit for it, my stomach turns.

I'd be willing to bet that not one of you ever saw combat. NOT ONE!

150,000 troops being blown to bits daily, losing limbs and suffering PTSD because of two, three, four or more tours in Iraq, and you people are proud of the fact that you might be stopping the only movement that will bring them home?

You sit in the comfort of your homes, visciously pounding away on your keyboards with absolutely no thought as to what's happening across the ocean. How brave of you.

Only an idiot would stand up in heavy seas and yell, "I just put another hole in the boat".

What about it? Any combat vets out there that support the taking down of Barack Obama? Don't reply unless you're a combat vet. I don't care to hear from those who have no clue what their talking about and are willing to sacrifice the lives of others so they can shoot their mouth off.

You folks make me want to puke.

Chris from St. Helens, OR

Proud member of Veterans for Peace who has nothing in common with you, thank God!

This kinda' reminds me of when my five year old sat on the front steps telling my wife and I, "OK, that's it. I'm leaving. Don't try and stop me. I really mean it. I'm goin'. You'll be sorry".

Alright already. We get it.

Goodbye, whiners.

lol

I guess the first rule of posting here is:

NO SARCASM!

Some people don't get it. I'm glad they're not here with me. I'm one of the most sarcastic people you'll ever meet.

When you make a sarcastic post here, you've got to remember that some people only read what they want to see, not what you said.

Others simply have no sense of humor.

Too bad for them. lol

Barack, I thought I knew you better.

When the first amendment came up to stop immunity for spying, you voted for it. What's up with that?

And when the second amendment to stop immunity on the FISA bill came up, once again, you voted for it.

Ant then, when a third vote came up that would have stopped the FISA bill from having immunity for the telecoms, you voted for that too. What's up with you?

You could have pandered to me and over 20,000 of your 30 some million supporters by trying to philibuster, but just because you didn't have 41 fellow Senators you would have needed to do that, you instead compromised in the interest of our security. What were you thinking?

That as President, you could change all that? That it doesn't let anybody off the hook for events that happened before 9-11? That it only let's telecoms off the hook for civil charges but not criminal charges?

Why couldn't you pretend that you weren't running for President, like Hillary, and vote against the final bill?

Bottom line: Why wouldn't you abandon all hope of being President and changing the world and instead support the hard line of 0.12% of your base?

That's it! From now on, I'm going to go to your website everyday and post blogs about why I think people who support you don't get it.

WHAAAA! WHAAA! Mommy, I don't think he likes me anymore.

At first I thought a post said "Quiters for Obama", and I thought, we've already got that. It's the FISA gang looking for a softer image.

But turns out it was "QuiLters for Obama.

Phew! I'm starting to see ghosts of the 0.12% that have fallen away.

Obama's leading the polls just about everywhere. Maybe when the bandwagon comes by again, they'll jump back on. I hope so. Some of those folks were real good people.

Transcendental?

Am I missing something?

Seriously. I thought I saw where Barack had voted yes to all three amendments that would have striken immunity from the bill.

And I thought he needed at least 41 or so of his fellow Dems to philibuster the bill, and that he couldn't get that support because they were afraid to back him for fear of reelection kickbacks.

So, as far as I see it, didn't Barack do what he could as a US Senator from Illinois? Was he supposed to wave his magic "I'm the nominee" stick and transform the Senate into a unified quorum?

Am I missing something, or are people mad at him for the vote of their own Senator? My Senator, Ron Wyden, voted along with Barack. Did yours?

He's a guy with a job, not a magician or a saint with special powers. He needs support from you and your Senator to get things done. Did he fail us, or did others around him.

And when he's President, they won't need sixty votes to pass legislation. Isn't that what we need?

Sad

I am earnestly sad to see some of you go. Many have voiced there opposition to the FISA bill as it was passed. I myself, believe it or not, argued those same points some weeks ago.

But my support for this candidate is predicated on one issue- the war in Iraq. And I found myself arguing points which could hurt this campaign and therefor hurt the chances at ending the war. As a firm member of Veterans for Peace, I could not let that happen. If I offended any of you in my efforts, I apologize. It was my desire to stop the hemmoraging of the campaign, not to harm anyone.

There is a 4' x 8' sign in my pasture. It has been there a while now. And as long as this candidate promises an end to the war, it will remain there.

As I said, I'm sorry to see some of you leave. Your numbers aren't that big in comparison to the overall campaign, but for the most part, you were intelligent and committed folks. You will be missed, and are more than welcome back at any time in the future.

Yes, WE can.

Of course...

0.0624% of Obama supporters can't be wrong.

When over half of the citizens of this country were fooled, we invaded Iraq and allowed illegal changes to the Constitution..

When the majority of Congress were fooled, we invaded Iraq and made illegal changes to the Constitution.

When the telecoms were fooled, they were complicit with Bush in wiretapping our conversations.

I say let's prosecute them all, or none.

The FISA bill should be passed with but one change, all wiretapping BEFORE 9-11 should be investigated and anyone shown to have broken the law as it existed then should be incarcerated. They started this before the war and 9-11, in case you forgot.

That includes Bush, the telecoms, and anyone else who knew of this and did nothing if not outright support it.

To hold the telecoms alone responsible for their actions AFTER 9-11 would be a coward's way of washing your hands of all guilt. ALL those who supported this war are complicit in empowering Bush. That includes Congress and over half of the citizens of our country, not just the telecoms.

Let's see now, last I heard, there were 10,000 people who joined the FISA blog. So, if you devide by the 16,000,000 who voted for him in the primary, that's 0.000624 of the total, or .0624%.

Vocal. Yes.

A sunami of a backlash?
Hero?

I recently saw a post where someone said that McCain had been given the Medal of Honor for his service in Viet Nam. That is not true.
I have searched the recipient list of heroes having won the Medal and nowhere is his name listed.
Do not be confused, I wouldn't wish his treatment at the hands of his captors on anyone. But a hero? I think not.
The Medal of Honor is reserved for those who have shown extraordinary bravery and disregard for personal safety in the line of duty.
To be sure, McCain's mission took him deep into enemy territory, where he was shot down. But being taken captive is not, in itself, an act of bravery. It is a tragic circumstance.
Truth be told, McCain supposedly "sang like a canary" while those around him did not.
The son of an Admiral, who graduated at the bottom of his class, wrecked several planes, and was ultimately shot down and held prisoner. That is his story.
I'm not saying he wasn't brave, but if his story is that of a hero, then there are millions of heroes, and the phrase becomes common rather than conjuring thoughts of someone special amongst those of us that served.

Help?

I can't figure out why the post "Fired up in Charlotte" stays at the top of my blog. It has a dateline of July 8th at 5:17 pm. It was there when I got home from work last night and it remains there no matter how many times I refresh the screen.

Any ideas on how to remove it?

The bigger issue...

Earlier, I was going to attempt to post the names of the fallen who will never get a chance to argue with those that don't like the FISA bill. Sadly, very sadly, the names of just those from A through B would have filled about five pages of the blog. Maybe some of you should google iraq war dead and spend a few hours looking at who they were and how they died. It might change your perspective and get you back on message.

Not in the least sorry about the content. People want to argue policy at the cost of lives. As a veteran, I can't understand it. I guess if you've never been in combat, it all seems like a big sims game. Sad indeed that people are losing site of the big picture from the comfort of their computer screen.

Some guy just commented to me that the FISA bill is as important to him as the war.
How many times has the FISA bill been revisited in the last 6 years?
How many times can we redo the death of a young soldier?
Which one is now permanent?
Incredible.

FISA?

I have a friend who's son did multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. The young man just stares into space all day. Try talking to him about FISA.
There's a neighbor down the road who's boy doesn't have legs anymore. Try talking to him about FISA.
And there's a family just up behind us who buried their son two weeks ago. Try talking about FISA to them.
Over four thousand families have had to bury their kid, father, brother or relative. Many, many times that are without limbs, not to mention the neocon-induced PTSD.
It's the war, stupid.
Until it ends, I don't give a crap about any other issue. Period.

Wow!

What a difference a generation makes. Back in the day, after a tour, I was in the street getting my head bashed so no one else had to go to Nam. Now, all the arm chair radicals sit in the comfort of their homes and bash our only hope of ending the war- Barack Obama.

This isn't a sims game. The soldiers dying in Iraq are real. Their bodies are being blown to bits on a regular basis, not to mention Iraqi men, women and children dying, starving and having no water, much less a computer and a full roof over their head. How many of them do you think have the time to blog about their wishes for a perfect political candidate?

You want to change the world? Pick a side. It's war or peace. Pick up a gun and join the war effort, or get out and work for peace. Your keyboard rantings do absolutely nothing to change it either way.

There are serious people trying to use this site to raise money, recruit voters, organize rallys, and a whole host of things in an effort to make a real difference.

If all you're doing is coming here to bitch about the failed campaign from the standpoint of an Obama "purist", get lost. The death of people is way too important for us to suffer the fools.

What a joke..

It would be funny if it wasn't so serious. All these trolls, and a few real supporters, who would rather see Corporal Johnny Q. Public, age 19, from Smalltown, USA die in Iraq next year rather than compromise their personal puffed up principles on a FISA bill that can be changed at the drop of a hat somewhere down the road.
Right on folks. Stick to your guns. That way the neocons can stick to their's.
Unbelievably selfish, myopic and down right dumb. Sacrificing someone else's life for your personal preference.
As a veteran, I'll never understand how people can have such a TV program view of war.

Do the math...

When I wrote this post an hour ago, some complained that I was calling the majority of true supporters who were complaining trolls. This post says nothing of the kind. Reread it and do the math. 6342 posts minus 5812 trolls leaves 530, or less than 1%. One guy even said he objected to my implying that Barack would be moving toward the center to get elected. Duh.

There have been 6,342 posts on why Barack is losing support. 5,812 of them have been by trolls. The rest have been by those who believe that there are enough Obama purists in the country to win a general election.
Many of them recognize the fact that, for one reason or another, Barack may scare or threaten middle America, but argue that sticking to the image that won him a contest within his party will somehow win over those millions he needs for the general election. They say that staying with that image in the general election will show him to be a man of resolute determination. Something they say middle America will admire and support.
Wouldn't that be nice? Wouldn't it be great if, instead of a candidate saying what was needed to endear himself to the masses, instead the masses would change their mindset and flock to him?
Ain't gonna' happen.
And by the way, Gore and Kerry didn't move to the center. They started out there and never distinguished themselves as being outside the norm.
Barack will have the left AND the center, IF you stay with him. Then we can get this whole mess cleaned up. He needs you to understand that if he is to be successful.
And your right about one thing- if you don't understand that and fall away, we and he will lose yet again.

The way it is...

Like many, I saw Barack for the first time at the last National Dem Convention. I said to my wife, "Wow, who is that guy"?

When the primarys began, I was solidly behind John Edwardsand his message of One America and call for national health care, but kept watching Obama with a feeling of wonderment. Is this guy for real?

When John dropped out, I watched and listened intently and eventually came over to Barack's campaign.

So, was he my first choice? No. But is he the best choice? You bet.

Having been around the sun 57 times, I've seen a number of Presidential races. It is inevitable that, when the primarys are over, the nominee MUST move closer to the center if he/she wants to have any chance of winning the general election. The purists always complain that they are being abandoned, but the general populace doen't reside in the purist form. It's just a political fact.

Then starts the mayhem as the opposition tries to define the nominee in negative terms. The candidate must reiterate their position time and again to fight off the spin. And should they so much as change one word in their statement, they are chastized for flip-flopping.

Something new is taking place this year, in that the internet, which is Barack's domain and strength, is also vulnerable to attack by "trolls" seeking again to cause mayhem and doubt in the campaign.

But in this new, unchartered territory, WE are the better competitor. To a degree, the trolls have been able to cause a small measure of doubt and in-fighting. But there are literally millions here on this site, and we are learning how to recognize trolls easier everyday. The first time poster's are no longer able to fool even the least blog savy supporter anymore. Their message is falling on deaf ears as the rest of us are going back to doing what we do best- organizing, fund raising and creating a groundswell that no opponent can withstand.

So, carry on. We are becoming immune to the troll bite. And We will not be stopped.

And remember the mantra that got us here:

Yes, WE can.

A blogger from Canada doesn't like what he "thinks" I said on a post today, so he reports it to the administrator.
I don't mind him voicing his opinion here, but #1, he didn't read it right, #2, he didn't check any of my past posts, and #3, he's a Canadian for Christ's sake.
Kinda' weird that I would get a warning on 4th of July because someone from another country doesn't like my post.
I guess I just had an Obamalicious moment, if you know what I mean.

Remember the Declaration of Independence?
Many of the people who signed it had problems with it's wording.
Unlike the "soft" supporters who threaten to withhold support because of FISA, thank God they could see the big picture and commit to something, even if it meant compromise.
Trolls, on the other hand are what I get on the bottom of my boot when I walk through the barn. Bottom feeders who contribute nothing to society. Kinda' like a Republican President.

Sad statements II

One more time for those who are slow on the uptake. These are the SAD STATEMENTS that those who would leave over the FISA issue will be saying:

Too bad Barack didn't vote against the Fisa bill, we could have ended the war in Iraq.
Too bad Barack didn't vote against the FISA bill, we could have had health care for millions of people.
Too bad Barack didn't vote against the FISA bill, we could have returned the Supreme Court to a balanced branch of government.
Too bad Barack didn't vote against the FISA bill, we could have had college education for millions of young students.
Too bad Barack didn't vote against the FISA bill, we wouldn't have bombed Iran.
Too bad Barack didn't vote against the FISA bill, we would still have a woman's right to choose.
Too bad Barack didn't vote against the FISA bill, we could have stopped the neocon plan for world domination.
Too bad Barack didn't vote against the FISA bill, we could have had world peace.
Don't you get it?
Can't stop this...

It's my conclusion, after watching the debate here for the last couple of days, that there are a lot of trolls and a few true supporters who have lost their perspective on the big picture that continue this FISA argument.
There are also millions of Obama supporters who are rock steady in their efforts to have him elected.
It's no contest. Especially here on his site.
The malcontent are merely speaking to and for themselves. They cannot stop this campaign, they cannot stop this movement, and they cannot stop the will of the majority.
And that's the way it works here in America. Cry and whine all you want, Barack WILL be the next President of the United States. And that's what really drives the trolls crazy, they can't stop us.

Choices...

Many of the signers of the Declaration of Independence and framers of the Constitution weren't happy with some of the wording in those documents. And many of them faced opposition from their fellow citizens and constituants.
Thank God they saw fit to "compromise" on such urgent matters for the sake of the "whole".
Take a lesson from those wise men. Step back and try to see the bigger picture.
And Happy Fourth of July to ALL my fellow citizens.

I still don't get it...

We all know the story all too well.

After 9-11, Bush and his cronies used the anger and fear in this nation to alter the Constitution and invade an innocent sovereign nation, killing hundreds of thousands, displacing millions more and spending trillions of our dollars in what turned out to be a long standing plan for dominance by his handlers and a personal vendetta for him.

Millions joined in the call to arms and many companies and individuals were complicit in their support of his agenda.

Now, we have a candidate who would set us all back on the right path, but some are opting out of the campaign because a new improved FISA bill won't hold a few of the one's who were fooled by Bush's actions accountable.

So what we have are a vocal minority who would rather bomb than educate, rather start yet another war than work on health care, rather continue a path of world dominance than peace, because the FISA bill will not hold a few responsible for the mess we're in.

The guilt of this war, although orchestrated by Bush and his minions, is on our nation as a whole. The United States of America attacked Iraq. That's us, folks. And the prosecution of a few is not worth the continued murder of many, nor the health and wealth of our nation and it's citizens.

But as Barack said, if this is a deal breaker for some, that's OK.

Get real people. Your not going to absolve your guilt by sending a few rich guys to prison.

The answer...

Prosecute them all! Build more prisons!
The telecoms were fooled into spying on us. They must go to prison!
And the House was fooled into granting the invasion. To jail with them!
And what of the Senate? They sealed the deal. Solitary confinement, I say!
Oh, and don't forget the American people, outraged at 9-11. They are the most guilty of all. Send them all up the river!
After all, we can't be expected to admit that we were all fooled by a man we all now realize is an idiot, can we?
Grow up, people. Stop pointing your fingers at easy targets. You and I, and all of America, are responsible for letting a chickenhawk jackass of an idiot talk this country into murdering hundreds of thousands of human beings.
'Fess up!

King George and his cronies lied and used profane propaganda to take us to war with an univolved sovereign nation after 9-11.

There was no grand conspiracy on the part of the telecoms. If there was, you, me, the Senate and the House were all complicit.

To say that we are not responsible because we were fooled and yet the telecoms are to be held to a higher standard is hogwash.

I was against the invasion from the early days and spoke out strongly, for which I was called every name in the book by some of the same people today who would crucify the telecoms for not knowing.

Who would you have us litigate against?
Take your discussion off the floor...

As the Senators would say. Although I am opposed to the Fisa bill as it stands, I will no longer discuss it here on this forum. Joyce is right, there are way to many trolls streaming in here trying to insert their idiotic will on the campaign.

The majority of bloggers who come here in support of Barack do so by starting out with a confessional as to why they support our candidate. I hate to broadbrush, but anyone who's first post is a negative one, especially on FISA, to me is obviously a troll; the bottom feeders of our society.

As soon as they post, click on their name. If it's a first post, report them. Sorry to those who earnestly come here with negative issues, but it is a nessesary move.

I personally will not post another negative sentence. Only my Senator and Representative will know if I am against any issue other than the Republican cowards being in MY White House.

Way back....

Way back on April 23rd of this year, one of our more prolific bloggers to this site posted, in part:

"Keep in mind that the people who he needs to win over don't see what the rest of us see. They think he's all dessert and no meat and potatoes. I know this is a misconception, and so do you- but it still persists and it must be addressed".
Mikeystyle, 4-23-08.

I couldn't agree more. Anyone who comes to this site and has questions about our candidate must be answered intelligently with the hope of winning them over or keeping them in the movement. Showing them disrespect, (trolls excepted), only hurts the campaign and doesn't foster the feelings of comradery that it will take to win this election.
If someone voices a concern about the campaign, help them understand. Don't just pass them off as a malcontent or convey a "with us or against us" attitude. If you can't answer their specific question, research it or get help. We don't need mindless cheerleading, we need facts to alleviate their concerns.

Really?

Are there trolls in here who seek to raise doubt in the minds of Barack's supporters? Undoubtably.
Are there avid supporters who see any questioning of Barack's campaign as a threat? You bet.
Will either one influence my degree of support for Barack's candidacy? Not one bit.
Trolls do not affect my support, and those who support Barack with blind allegence hold no sway either.
Many people have legitimate concerns over Barack's "new" campaign direction, and simply being told to sit down and shut up wouldn't work if you were standing here with me, and it won't work on the blog.
I can tell by the trees in my pasture which way the wind is blowing. I don't need someone 1500 miles away telling me that it's actually going in the other direction.
You can pass some of us off as one time trolls, but not precinct captains, fund raisers and those who have been here for a long time supporting REAL CHANGE.
There's a problem developing here and passing us off and pissing us off won't make it go away.

Ugly replies...

The posts here are running anywhere from 1/3 to 1/2 about concern that Barack is stepping away from previous statements that got us here. In response, many are choosing to call those people either cowards, trolls or just plain weak-minded. What's wrong with you folks?

Is someone questioning Barack's "new" campaign strategy that much of a threat? Can't you think of any intelligent response to their arguments? To me, when you resort to name calling and questioning someone's intelligence, you are showing that you have no answer.

If you are truly an Obama supporter, isn't it in the best interest of the campaign to try to help people see the positive side of the issues at hand? By responding simply that, "this is what he said and any other view is stupid", you are angering people who might be otherwise convinced to stay with the movement. It sounds like the neocon response of, "either you're with us or against us".

We're not herding cats here. Use intelligent responses to legitimate concerns.

Sorry..

Sorry to say, McCain is not a hero in my eyes.

Being held captive is a great price to pay for being a patriot. But it is a circumstance, not a sign of bravery. Going to Nam as a pilot is brave, getting shot down and captured is most unfortunate. But there are millions of brave men throughout our history, and very few heroes.

Being a hero is showing extraordinary bravery and a disregard for personal safety in the face of the enemy or in the line of duty.

Truth is, John McCain gave in to his abusers when those around him did not.

Brave? Yes.

Hero? No.

Possibly heroic...

In response to those who equate being a prisoner of war with heroism on the part of John McCain, I respond:
I was "in theater" during the time John was held captive. Many say that he was doing his part to protect the country by holding his own during the experience. Not so. John sang like a canary.
Truth be told, I probably would have too. But to hold him up as a hero in the traditional sense of the word, which to me means uncommon bravery and disregard for personal wellbeing in the face of the enemy, I say no.
Is he to be held at a much higher level than those, (Bush, Cheney, et al), who wouldn't go at all? You bet!
But does wrecking five planes and ultimately being shot down and held captive during a conflict makes you "untouchable" when it comes to Presidential politics? I don't think so.
As I said, I wouldn't wish his experience on anyone, much less think I could withstand the same treatment, but that is not an experience that makes him an infinately more viable candidate for leading the most powerful country in history, and from his rhetoric, I'd say he actually has a bent perspective on the reality of war.

Request...

I couldn't help but notice that in my email from David Ploufe, he showed me the two month totals for McCain and the RNC, and only one month of Baracks fundraising, in an obvious attempt to highlight the difference between fundraising between the two campaigns.

While I understand the reason for this, I nonetheless find it a bit disengenuous.

So, could someone please provide the two month totals for both campaigns?

I'm an independent and will not contribute to the DNC, but if there is really a large disparity between Barack's fundraising and that of McCain, I will search for a way to come up with more money for Barack. (It ain't easy.)

Really

Got a problem with Barack on the FISA bill? I can see that. Personally, I'm not changing my vote unless he waffles on the war, but that being said...

I see a big problem with my daughter's generation starting to rear it's head. The youth are starting to fade away due to the movement of the campaign towards the center. The white knight in armour that was taking on the politics of old, head on, is putting on a suit instead.

There are a lot of us my age, (I've been around the sun 57 times), who still see the big picture and won't let the smaller things change our minds about voting for him, but I guarantee you that there are far more people on the other side who see nothing but race and fear and we enlightened old white folks can't win this contest without the youth. Let's face it, they are the ones who got us this far.

If we lose them by moving too far to the center, i will be worried that, once again, the Republican base will rise up and steal another one. This country can't take another 4 years of this idiocy!

FISA petition

For those wondering where to go to voice your opposition to the FISA bill, here is a link to the petition.

Barack is a great candidate, but a politician, nonetheless. He needs to know if you don't support the bill. If enough of you show your concern, he will act accordingly.

Signing the petition doesn't mean someone else supports him more or better than you, it just means you don't support the bill. Simple as that.

http://www.petitiononline.com/bo90210/petition.html

I'm 100% Obama. Have been for a long, long time.

I just don't see the reason for your combative posts to fellow supporters who may or may not have questions about his statements. This is where people come to discuss his words and have an intelligent dialogue on the issues.

Posts by you which disparage people's views on religion, or validity on topics important to them, do more harm than good.

I would even say that someone who has standing here, albeit a small one, and is radical in their responses to earnest people seeking answers, is more of a hinderance than any troll that spews neocon dribble.

United we will win. All of us together, not just the ones who think like you.

YIKES...

Those of you who would have anyone with questions about Barack's statements be silent, of course you're right. We must all see things exactly as you do and not question the wisdom of our young candidate.

You tell them that if they don't understand what he meant by bypassing public funding, they are of course fools.

You say that if they question his stance on FISA, they don't see the bigger picture. You say that he needs to get elected first and straighten out things later.

One has to wonder, what would you have counciled Barack before his Senate campaign, when he came out against the war?

Don't worry about the war, you can fix that when you're in the Senate? Get elected first?

Come back, Barack...

I just signed the petition to get Barack to reconsider his support of the FISA bill, and I also wrote the campaign in the hope of getting him back on track.

WE picked Barack out of a field of excellent candidates. There were many that WE could have chosen that would have done an excellent job. But WE wanted the best.

Barack presented himself as not just the best of the best, but as one who is possibly the best in generations. I still believe that.

But he has seemed to have strayed from the message. He was chosen because he didn't do "politics as usual". He was chosen because he was a Constitutional scholar. And he was chosen because he put forth the persona of a new voice that reflected the very best in all of us, giving us HOPE that WE could build a better tomorrow.

WE all still support him, but even the most ardent supporter has to be feeling a twinge of confusion. If you don't, I submit that you are just drinking a different flavor of koolaid.

Write to him. Sign the petition. He's still the best of the best. But he needs to know that WE chose him to be OUR spokesperson. This is OUR movement. He asks us to believe in our ability to bring about real change. We need to ask him to also believe WE will stand behind him as long as he works for that change.

Sorry

Guys, you've got it wrong. Barack did say that he would go with public financing. Look it up. As far back as Iowa he was saying that he had always been behind it. I'm still voting for him. There's no doubt there. But you can't rewrite what he said.

And as far as the post about him saying he would go along with it only if McCain did, that was a statement from last month, and a precurser to the latest move. Do some research. You're makin' us look bad.

C'mon. This ain't no fan club, and he ain't the Savior. He's a politician, and a good one at that.

You guys are makin' koolaid here, and I won't drink it no matter who's servin'.

It's the right choice, but make no mistake, it's different than what he was saying before.

Confusion

Seems to be a lot of confusion about public financing. In a nut shell:

People voluntarily contribute to the public Presidential campaign fund by checking the "donate $3" box on their income tax return. It is not a tax that all "have to" pay.

The Republicans have known for quite some time that they have no good ideas nor do they have any good candidates, so they rely on the negative option of contributing to 527's that focus on spreading rumors and mistruths to discredit the Democrats.

This has been thier game plan for a long time, and because of that, they have a huge advantage in that area. What pisses them off is that Barack is not going along with the game plan, and in fact, is going to raise more money than they can through the donations of everyday people like us.

Now, did Barack know that the system was rigged this way? Yes. And did he, none the less, make the rookie mistake of supporting public financing when it sounded good back in Iowa? Yes.

Is he still the best candidate for office in my lifetime? You bet! (An d that includes JFK) So, yes I'm a bit disappointed that he has to "spin" it for the first time. But is that any reason not to support him?

Don't be silly. It was a mistake. Move on.
