Obama Stories Wanted for New Book

I am writing a book on Obama volunteers’ experiences. This text will focus on meaningful and inspiring stories from your phonebanking, canvassing or other campaign journeys. If you have pictures or stories of volunteering that were significant to you and you think would have meaning for others, please send submissions to:

I have a particular interest in the "phonebankers". Making cold calls throughtout the United States was a unique opportunity to get to know the diverse pockets of individuals and communities that exist within our nation. I personally had some amazing discussions that I know must have been echoed by other volunteers. I am better off from the experience...and am eager to showcase your personal experiences.
Chosen submissions will be notified by January 10, 2008 and full acknowledgement will be given in the publication.

I am looking for stories that will exemplify the broad scope of voters that were either for or against Obama. My primary interest is to showcase the heart of the Obama campaign by revealing personal and transformational stories and images that were at the core of this successful campaign.

Dreams From My Father

During a three day 1500 mile road trip to visit colleges, I decided to finally begin Barack's book. It has been beckoning me for many months. We are only a quarter of the way through, but I cannot recommend it highly enough. Not only is Barack's story riveting but he is a superb writer. Reading it out loud to my 17 and 19 year olds, both voracious readers in their own right, has been an enormous gift to us all. Now....to just find the time to sit and finish reading it aloud. One may well never be too old for a bedtime story.

Suspension Means What?

So, this is big news and good news. Sort of. Clinton has announced that she will suspend her campaign. She will, however be able to "hold onto" her delegates. Why? In case of.....what reasons? To leverage her wants/demands? I'm really sick of this talk of a dream ticket and want the Democratic Party to get real real quick. Even though McCain doesn't look, act or speak very Presidentially, we still have miles to go before we rest. What say you?

Yes We Did and Now What?

Following Obama's victory speech, last night I listened to the synopsis of the event as reported by MSNBC’s political pundits and wanted to share my thoughts on a few things:

When Pat Buchanan says “Something’s wrong with Obama” that he hasn’t put this thing away months ago (regarding clinching the nomination) then we know Obama’s going to be just fine in the upcoming months. Buchanan says Obama’s only “bonding with these kids, but he’s not bonding with middle America. He’s just not one of us.”

Obama has certainly cleared the burden of becoming the presumptive democratic nominee. But now we are going to have to focus on electoral votes. How’s that for a new discussion topic. I must do my research. In the meantime, any takers? Would love to hear your thoughts on this loaded and familiar topic. Express yourself.

Clinton Out of Control

You actually invoked the specter of an inspirational leader, at the seeming moment of triumph, for himself and a battered nation yearning to breathe free, silenced forever.
You actually used the word "assassination" in the middle of a campaign with a loud undertone of racial hatred - and gender hatred - and political hatred.
You actually used the word "assassination" in a time when there is a fear, unspoken but vivid and terrible, that our again-troubled land and fractured political landscape might target a black man running for president.
Or a white man.
Or a white woman!
You actually used those words, in this America, Senator, while running against an African-American against whom the death threats started the moment he declared his campaign?"

The Fierce Urgency of Now

The mere fact that I have been following this presidential primary election and campaign activity is highly significant that something incredible is happening in our midst. I am a single mother with numerous jobs, also in graduate school, also dealing with profoundly traumatic scenarios within my personal life, like deaths and breakdowns. I cannot anymore turn a deaf ear to what's going on in this campaign season than I can turn my back on my children, which believe me is not ever going to be even a remote possibility. I was never a Hillary basher in the beginning, nor am I one now. But I knew plenty of people who were. As I have worked diligently as a volunteer for Obama, I have been astounded by the way my perception of Hillary has changed. Mostly it has been the result of watching her dirty tactics, like the way you might see someone in the sports arena secretly elbow or trip a competitor, hoping no one would notice. The fact that Barack Obama continues to play fairly and never hits below the belt is reason enough to capture my full attention. That alone is proof that something new is happening in this country. This is indeed a testament of the fierce urgency of now. We must continue to talk to anyone and everyone who will listen to the truth and to the facts of why this is such an important time to get involved and most importantly why Obama is a leader whom we will not see the likes of again for a very long time. This is an opportunity we must not waste.

After losing a half hour's worth of synopis of Obama's speech....and having lost it in cyberspace...It wil have to suffice to say that Obama, once again, took the high road, emphasized change in America and gave the best of all arguments as to why he is the one and only true candidate of change. Why do some people say they don't know much about Obama? It's a mystery to me. He seems so transperant and available to me. But to people more isolated in this country, like Kentucky and West Virginia, we must all keep on keeping on. We must swallow our pride about what seems so obvious and do our service work to let the public at large who says they "don't know him", know him in no uncertain terms and what he represents.

Here's to the next weeks of letting people know who Barack Obama is, the hope he represents and what he intends to do in this country.

There is no need for mystery. We must be the ones to dispell the misnomers. Yes we can!

Time to Lighen Up

Okay okay, he shouldn't have called the reporter "sweetie" and I probably shouldn't call everyone "honey", but I'm from the south, and it's a cultural thing I was raised with. I actually don't call everyone that, only people that I'm feeling positive toward. Now, if Barack called men "sweetie" it would raise even more eyebrows, and of course it's also not a cultural thing. But then that brings up sexism in the reverse. I am a woman and can call men and women honey without anyone ever having minded in all these years. But because Obama's a man, he can only call women sweetie, and then, according to CNN's Campbell Brown, "None of us like it" and Obama needs to cut it out. Well I wouldn't mind being called sweetie by someone who certainly only used it as a term of a positive nature. What's gone wrong with this world. We should all just lighten up. At least he didn't call her something awful. And yes, I do believe he did the correct thing by letting her know that no disrespect was intended. She did, however, get her 15 secs. of fame. What next. Sheesh.

It's his "campaign" that established the Primary results....which includes ALL of US...staffers, directors, phone-bankers, any and all of his supporters. He never takes the credit. How cool is that, huh? Way to be a role model!

How Intelligent Are You?

How do we get “everybody” involved in this democratic campaign?

One way is to find every avenue we possibly can to counteract the “spin” that insinuates Obama has trouble obtaining the working class/white vote. We must continue to put emphasis on the fact that people in general do not have any trouble voting for Obama. That is one of his many strengths. People like him. Even those that are confused as to why they like him. There are those that change their party affiliation, those that switch from Clinton to Obama and those that are inspired to vote for the first time. Obama is simply a likeable fella. Why?

That’s another blog post entirely. However… I do think that Barack has already begun changing the climate of what is normally thought of as the “general public.” I have begun to change my otherwise cynical view of humanity as someone who now believes in the ability of the American people to recognize truth and authenticity when they are in the presence of it. So....I'm here to remind you...Every action you take makes an impact on someone else. Keep telling anyone who will listen that "yes we can!" A gift indeed.

What a Difference a Day Makes or As Chillary Goes Marching On

Oh my oh my. I hoped we were in good shape from Tuesdays’ primary results. Yesterday morning, news was in flux and scattered about. I had a hard time knowing what was spin and what was real. What I did know was that Obama was clearly in good stead. McGovern’s endorsement (I campaigned for him back in the day) and new superdelgates…the Obamasphere was indeed invigorated. This morning, 24 hours later, it appeared the tide had turned. Barack is once again the golden boy to just about everybody, other than Clinton supporters, and even they seem to be reconsidering their stance. Yes, of course we know it is well deserved. We who have always seen him, who know who he is, what he sacrifices and risks each day, and what he represents. But now the media is practically gushing at him, clamoring about trying to get their interviews. And some damn fine interviews I’ve seen on the news tonight! All of this to say, we only have to follow Barack’s lead. Stay focused on what lies ahead in the weeks to come. Maintain self control and stay above the fray of the negative campaigning tactics. Remember that this is a step by step process and Clinton is still in the race. No more politics as usual. The transformation continues. Yes we can!

Perception

In the wake of all the media hype I find it funny to hear CNN politicos say that politics is all perception, when asked about how Obama is faring vs. Clinton. Who do they think is in charge of perception? Of course, each of us has choice, right? We ultimately think for ourselves, or so we like to think we do. So, for the sake of ease, let's say, yes, it's all perception. I might use the word "interpretation" instead. But nonetheless, if that is indeed the case, then why not make up a positive perception when given the chance? What can each of us do to enhance the positive perception of Obama? I think we should not only model him, but Michelle as well. Her interview on CNN last night by Suzanne Malveaux shows what she is made of. After being bombarded with questions about you know who, she kept reitterating that she and Barack were turning the page and moving forward. She said emphatically that she really did not want to speak of the Rev. situation any more, but instead wanted to focus on the issues. Did that stop Malveaux? Of course not. Unbelievable. But Michelle kept steady and would not waiver. All the while remaining polite.

Perception, perspective, position. Let us all be mindful when we speak to all of our friends, co-workers, family and adversaries in the next four days before the next primaries. Let's remember the urgency of now and be the change. Never give up.

They are the best practitioners of the old politics, so they will no doubt call me a traitor, an opportunist and a hypocrite. Obama Breaks with Pastor...Difficult but Necessary

Obama had not originally heard what Rev. Wright said before the National Press Club. After he did hear it, he was clearly conflicted, clearly angry, hurt and disappointed, and has now given his first real display of emotion in front of the media. I originally thought much of what Rev. Wright had to say in front of the NAACP was well articulated, but granted I did not hear it all. I really feel for Obama today. A tough decision to speak out and renounce his former pastor, but I think the right one. What do you think?

“Moving forward, Rev. Wright does not speak for me, he does not speak for our campaign… What we saw yesterday out of Rev. Wright was a resurfacing and I believe an exploitation…Obviously whatever relationship I had with Rev. Wright has changed as a result of this. I don’t think he has shown much concern for me or for the American people… I do not subscribe to the views that he expressed. I think they are wrong, I think that they are destructive and to the extent that he continues to speak out, I do not expect them to be contributed to me.”

Phoning for Barack

This is a daunting, though important task, for any Obama supporter. Phoning complete strangers. I call from my living room in Vermont, and I pay for my calls, as my free long distance cell free calling plan doesn't have service from my home. I say this, not to gloat, but to share that it if I can do it ($16,00 adj. gross income w/kids) then anyone can do it. Leading to what point? The fact that no matter how many calls I make, I always have fear and trepidation before each call... secretly giving thanks for the message machines, no answers, or wrong numbers. However, when I do have the opportunity to speak with someone, it more often than not, makes a huge difference in my life, and I hope, ultimately in Obama's campaign... which leads to the rest of the country.

I wanted to share one call I made tonight to Pennsylvania. The person reached was undecided. When I asked if she was willing to share with me what it was that she was struggling with, I was prepared for the "bitter comment." Much to my surprise, she brought up the Rev. Wright scenario, but wasn't sure what his name was even. She then said she wasn't sure about whether or not Obama was Muslim. After I picked myself up off the floor, I let her know of Obama's having denounced what the Reverend said, etc. etc. She divulged that she hadn't really listened much to the news, due to her schedule, and wasn't really all that up on the whole story. She was actually very open. She said she appreciated what I had to say and that she would consider that when going to the polls tomorrow. I felt I'd made a difference. This is evidence of how just one call can make a difference. I mostly am left with the wonder of how someone could really be holding on the Rev. Wright's Greatest Hits loop, left by the wayside at least a couple of weeks now. People really aren't as updated as I keep thinking they surely must be. It is not a judgmental remark, just a realization of how much each of us is needed to help other get the true facts.

Change in Strategy

It is good indeed to finally see Barack behind the driver's seat, with both hands on the steering wheel. For far too long, Clinton and the media has had him on the defense. Now he is driving the agenda and it's about time. Although I've been frustrated not having seen this phenomenon happen before now, it serves as reinforcement to the addage that "it's never too late."

It's never too late to turn a corner or tell a truth. Obama has not relinquished his core beliefs nor has he compromised his integrity. He has, however, begun a new phase of his political journey by responding to the relentless denegration by his opposition (including the media) in a mannor that showcases his strengths of leadership and skill in building coalitions.

Two more days before the Pennsylvania primary. The best thing we can do is continue to tell his story to anyone who has ears. All I can do is believe with all my heart that change is possible and that truth will prevail.

Obama Receives Endorsement from Key Clinton Cabinet Member

Robert Reich, a former Clinton cabinet member and longtime friend of the former president, formally endorsed Obama's White House bid, saying that "my conscience won't let me be silent any longer."

"Although Hillary Clinton has offered solid and sensible policy proposals, Obama's strike me as even more so," Reich wrote on his blog. (He served as the Secretary of Labor from 1993-1997 and is currently a professor at Brandeis University.)

"His plans for reforming Social Security and health care have a better chance of succeeding," Reich continued. "His approaches to the housing crisis and the failures of our financial markets are sounder than hers ... He has put forward the more enlightened foreign policy and the more thoughtful plan for controlling global warming."

Two Former Senators Endorse Obama

My thanks to Sam Graham-Felsen’s blog today which earlier included the following information: Former Senator Sam Nunn said: “I believe that Senator Obama has a rare ability to restore America’s credibility and moral authority and to get others to join us in tackling serious global problems that will determine our own well being and security. I believe that he will bring to the White House, high principles, clear vision and sound judgment. I believe that he will inspire people to put aside extreme partisanship for the common good. I believe that he will awaken the energy and idealism of people who have never been active in public affairs, particularly our young people. I believe that he will also attract skilled, experienced and energetic people to government and will have the sound judgment to put together an outstanding governing team, bringing people together across old boundaries.”

Former Senator David L. Boren said, “I am joining Senator Barack Obama’s advisory team on foreign policy and national security because I believe it is my duty as a citizen to do all I can to help our country at this critical moment. Our strength is declining. Eighty-one percent of Americans believe we are headed in the wrong direction. We must act quickly to meet and overcome the challenges we face. “Our most urgent task is to end the divisions in our country, to stop the political bickering, and to unite our talents and efforts. Philadelphia Debate and Perspective

In response to concerned supporters that ABC shouldn't have allowed last night’s debate to be ruled by lapel pin questions, Rev. Wright, etc. Keep training yourselves to look for the positive slant. Those kinds of shallow and politically driven questions gave Obama yet another chance to explain his views to the shortsighted people. As usual, he did so with brilliance and clear articulation, looking very presidential indeed. There are many strengths displayed by Barack in last night’s debate. Having chosen not to attack Hillary on the subject of Bosnia when he had a chance to was a smart move. Ponder the notion that everything we dwell upon is governed by perspective and interpretation. That being said, we shouldn't put any more energy into any perceived negative aspects of ABC's handling of the debate or any other biases seen in the networks, which as we know are abounding. Rather, let Obama’s actions (and campaign manager David Plouffe’s messages) be a model to us all to rise above the nonsense and continue stressing the real issues, never ceasing in our ongoing quest to educate people about what’s possible in Washington and in our country with Barack Obama as our Commander in Chief. Defining Moment and New Coalition

Referred to twice by Barack in tonight's debate is his statement that this is a defining moment.

1) Our country is at war, 2) Our planet's in peril, 3) Our econonmy is in shambles, and 4) People have lost hope in government. He closed the debate with these last words along with reminding any uncommitted superdelegates that it is time to form a new political coalition in this country. This reinforces a statement he said earlier that he has "been doing as good a job, if not better, pulling together the coalition that will defeat John McCain."

Hedge Fund Managers

Bitterness and Speaking Out

What's it going to take for the "public at large" to understand that things like the "bitter statement" are only going to persist for as long as the media decides they are going to. It is all an illusion made up by the media's incessant focus on it. Barack has spoken very articulately about what he meant. He has put it in context, clarified, and apologized for any offense others may have taken. What else needs to be done to get past this? Write and tell the media (any news network or paper you can find) and tell them enough is enough. Stay politically neutral when you write, as your words are more apt to have an impact if they don't think you're just trying to advocate for a particular candidate. Educate everyone you know about how perception is formed by media. It's an amazing fact that most people still don't know this.

Barack handled himself masterfully I thought. He explained what he meant about the bitter/clinging to faith and guns statement, in the rightful way that had the negative connotations seem ridiculous. The media seems to want to keep it around however. Barack also referred to the "Reverend's Greatest Hits" that keep circulating over and over as "a distortion of who he is and what the church is all about." He gave a thoughtful and specific accounting of how his reverend contributed to his faith, saying that while he (Barack) was organizing within churches, Rev. Wright suggested he actually start attending one! Barack qualified that White was his "pastor", not his spiritual mentor or advisor. Thoughts or comments from others regarding these and other aspects of the forum? Your take?

Real Results in Texas

Okay, the time has come. It is definitely time to resolve the question of whether or not we are going to change the rules or not and seat Florida and Michigan. As long as there is a chance for those delegates to "possibly" be counted for Clinton, she obviously will not be able to even think about withdrawing. Why would she? I wouldn't. This matter needs to be resolved soon. Why is it so drawn out? Why is there even a question about this? Simply unacceptable. We must get past this as a nation and get on to the business of getting Obama in the oval office. Ideas?

Shooting Oneself in the Foot

Normally I try and steer clear of negative blogging about a candidate and now is no exception…However….CNN and other news stations have recently become quite adept with their reporting of what’s really happening regarding Obama and Clinton, rather than their spin about what’s happening…and I must say it is bringing me much hope. For example…tonight they aired a segment highlighting how quickly Clinton acted out of desperation earlier today as she spoke of what was almost behind us. Bringing up the race issue again (regarding what Rev. Wright said) was one more last ditch “kitchen-sink” effort to try and save herself in this election. Bringing this topic up after a week since Obama’s Philadelphia speech raises more questions about Sen. Clinton’s integrity. I must admit, after so much bias shone on CNN, it is indeed refreshing to see some authentic reporting.

I realize it was over 10 years ago, but is it really possible that that would make someone immune to being “found out?” She says she mis-spoke and didn’t remember correctly. Hillary’s padding the truth and sensationalizing what actually happened is not that surprising to me. What does have me confused, however, is the fact that it’s all over CNN and everyone is speaking about the duplicity. Her foreign policy experience is finally getting scrutinized, in many directions. Making a mistake? Intentionally deceiving? You decide.

What Kind of Person Would Like Obama

Someone wrote to ask me today if everything was alright because I hadn’t posted on my daily blog in six days. I was surprised and happy to hear that someone had even noticed. This makes me think about the nature of Obama supporters. I certainly don’t want to categorize any one type of group, but it does pose an interesting question. What type of person is a Barack Obama supporter? I have to admit, I like to think that the profile would include the following characteristics: authentic, down to earth, intelligent, caring, politically conscious, civic minded, socially sensitive, etc. etc. But truly….what about the person who is average or below average intelligence…who may not know anything about politics, perhaps has not even cared enough to vote, who might be spacey and flighty, self-centered or even lazy? Is that person not able to respond to a Presidential candidate like Obama? Just thinking about it made me laugh. That’s exactly why I care so much for this man….he’s humble and he’s magnanimous, all at the same time. No one is left out. At least, not if they are human.

Obama's Philadelphia speech yesterday about Rev. Wright and such, was a brilliant move. It took him from being in the mode of having to defend and react to one of directing the agenda. What an enormous amount of courage it took to address the elephant in the room, but given his character, could he do less than that? Let's hope this will put a new spin on what's already been spun to death. His appearance and interview with Anderson Cooper tonight continues to define what he is born to do...to lead. Regardless of who wins the Presidency, Barack Obama will surely go down in history books as one of the greatest leaders of our time.

Just like the pollution that hovers over certain parts of the region, as if in a cloud or puff or smoke, let all this nonsense about Obama's ties to racists and the illusions spun by political pundits and biased newscasters rise above each of our own backyards and into another track of land somewhere far away. There's something about metaphysical laws....how does it go....something like, "What you dwell on, attracts energy." So let's keep moving this train forward, out of the mist and into the clearing that we all know is the driving force this nation and this planet truly need. Nothing has changed with Obama's campaign or with Obama, the man who's running for President of the United States. The only thing that has changed has been "some" people's perceptions. And this too will pass. I urge all of us to remain in the positive possibilities that Sen. Obama so aptly brings as an opportunity for us all.

Leave it to Anderson to say, "well obviously one of you is looking to the polls and Jamal is looking at the actual results"....mentioning that numerical values can't be disputed...and then he ended the conversation and changed subjects. Loved it. Hooray Jamal and hooray Anderson Cooper for providing a little balance to the Clinton National Network.

CNN has projected Obama's win here in Vermont. Yes we can! However, I have a question about the Democratic ballots. Edwards and Kucinich still had names on the ballots. This was upsettig to me as it "could" have easily taken votes away from Obama. When I asked the Town Clerk about it, she said that the two candidates never formally contacted anyone in the state to have their names removed and therefore it legally had to remain on the ballots. Is that accurate? If it is, why do you think they wouldn't have followed the protocol and removed their names?

When I created my HONK and WAVE event I never dreamed that no one would respond, but that is indeed what happened. So…I went out to the side of the road yesterday, held up my one sign for OBAMA and began my one hour of service. I had carefully chosen a ski access road, so that the traffic leaving upon the resort’s closing would be “accessed.” I took note that with approximately 200 passers-by, (half of them from neighboring states…MA, RI, NH, NY and some from FL), 40 people either honked or waved. One person rolled down the window and howled OBAMA. There was one thumbs down, a lot of people who seemed to be driving while blind, and clearly there were the confused. The fact that there was only one person holding up an Obama sign on the sign of the road would be reason enough for confusion...as even I worried whether or not they would think I was hitch-hiking! All in all, I felt my usual fire for Barack and was unphased by my solitariness. When a horn would honk I’d jump up and down and holler WOO HOO as if in a big crowd of supporters. Hopefully, my efforts didn’t do any harm. One never really knows for sure. But like Obama, I choose to see the “positive possibilities.”

They are conflicted yet excited about the possibility that they might actually make a difference in their world by casting their vote or at least their opinion. People really do matter. For the past two days I've been on a hiring committee for a highschool administrative position. Almost all of the candidates were outstanding, with individual strengths and characters. I feel compelled to share with you that I noticed that my experience of Barack Obama followed me into the interviewing process. I listened differently. I no longer needed to hear the nuts and bolts about what someone would or wouldn't do. I was more interested in how they were "being." Would they be the kind of person who would inspire the faculty as well as the students? Were they builders of coalitions? One person would have made an excellent running mate for the Junior Senator from Illinois. True excellence was brought forth and everyone in the room had a sense that this person would raise the bar for what was possible for the school as a whole. We were clearly in the presence of a true leader. It was very clear that this person had the ability to inspire, unite and move us all forward. Quite a row to hoe, I do believe. I am amazed with how much my commitment and dedication to getting Obama to the White House has affected my perspective on leadership in general as well as these other seemingly unrelated areas of my life.

The Hawaii caucuses are on Feb. 19 and I decided to do some phonebanking for Obama tonight. Since Barack grew up in Hawaii, when I called there, I thought I would mostly be making sure people knew where and when their upcoming caucuses were taking place. I was really unprepared for the humanity that showed up on just about every call. In the attempt to keep this brief I will share my thoughts at the end of making 20 calls for Obama. Hopefully it will speak to you or someone else, and like I did, will inspire you to make calls from "your" home.

Most of the people I spoke with were undecided between Hillary and Obama. There were 5 no answers or messages. Out of the 15 people I spoke with, only three of them were clearly voting Republican, and even they were cordial with me. I only had one person hang up rather quickly, but he wasn’t rude.

I really do see this time in American history as significant in a paramount way. People are looking deeply into their belief systems and questioning their values. They are conflicted yet excited about the possibility that they might actually make a difference in their world by casting their vote or at least their opinion.

I am so very proud to be putting my heart and soul into Senator Obama's campaign for President.

Discovered a very interesting fact today on NPR's "All Things Considered" as McCain's Sr. Campaign Advisor , McKinnin, was being interviewed. He said he would step down from his present position if Obama wins the nomination. He would still give 100% of his support to McCain, but from the sidelines. Seen the Light

I've finally seen the light about CNN and why Obama supporters have begun calling it Clinton Network News. I usually always watch CNN because they give the most consistent live coverage of the presidential race. However today, after watching each candidate get their 6 minutes to speak live from Virginia and waiting for Obama's turn, I am wondering why it took me so long to see the network's bias.

When Obama came on to speak, Ms. Crowley spoke over the "entire" speech so that no one could hear a single word. The first thing she did was give the Maine results thus far, followed by an announcement of Clinton's change in her Sr. Campaign Advisor, followed by Suzanne Malveaux speaking about Clinton's overall campaign, with Hillary's video footage on HALF of the screen the entire time! When Obama's speech was over, he walked off the stage and Crowley let us hear one minute of his speech. It was unbelievable. I'm just so amazed and upset by the blatent and overt bias I can hardly understand why it's taken me so long to see this. Now I'm more fired up than ever! (Perhaps we should all write to CNN and tell them what we think about this.)

According to Denis Obrien, Precinct Captain of Bangor, Maine, yesterday's Obama rally sported some 7,500 supporters that were able to get "inside" the arena, with about 4,000 left outside. He said it took two hours of waiting on the highway, with a line waiting to get inside about 3/4 of a mile long, 10 people wide...people of all ages, genders and backgrounds. No one complained. The greatest thing Denis said, I decided to put on my blog and share with everyone, as it so aptly illustrates Obama's character. "We started hearing loud cheers outside, and thought he was about to come into the arena. We kept hearing cheers outside and realized that he was giving a speech to those who could not get inside. That lasted about 40 minutes. He then came in and the crowd went wild with cheers, clapping and many tears. He gave a 55 minute speech that was filled with emotion, passion, substance, and honesty. I wish you could have seen it. I truly believe that today we will thank him for all that he gave us by caucusing heavily in his favor here in Maine."

After this win, CNN announces the final tally as Obama winning 13 states, with 42,530 votes versus 395,391 votes for Clinton. On the other hand, they said that Obama won 470 delegates and Clinton has won 576 delegates. Can anyone speak to the "super delegates" and how that works?

If Huckabee can win three states tonight, and he refuses to throw in the towel, in spite of my opposition to his basic platform, he poses a positive attitude and one that I derive much optimism from regarding Barack’s status in this campaign. Never give up, keep going from the ground up, no matter what. Since Obama is doing so well tonight, I have even more reason than ever to be hopeful. The California vote is not yet concluded.

Let’s reach out to the older voters and to the Hispanic voters and continue to move on to the next conversation. Each and every day affords us yet another opportunity to be heard, to get the real facts in motion and dispel this crazy political & media spin about experience vs. hope and change. I say, give us the facts and never give up and Obama will change this nation for the better, one way or another!

As I gear up to make a final round of calls before the Super Bowl (figuring no one would appreciate a call at that time), just wanted to share something I heard on a recent phone-banking teleconference. When you encounter people that are on-the-fence, never underestimate the power of your own story. Why are YOU supporting Barack Obama? Keeping it authentic is the best way to be heard. After all, think of how Barack's personal style...his authenticity is a big part of his appeal. So whomever you speak to, from now til Super Tuesday, be authentic and share your story. For those of you who are using a script on the phone-banking team, don't be afraid to veer from it. Remember, people will respond better when they feel they are speaking to a REAL person. Keep it human!
