Behind the scenes of activity trackers

The rating system continues to amuse me. It's such a brilliant red herring for the opposition. Any McCain spy checking out the ratings will report back a dwindling of activity, a lack of enthusiasm, a waning of support. You know the spin.

Let's all have a good laugh about that.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Didn't that feel good?

So, like me, you've all been phonebanking, canvassing, attending too many events to count, buying gear from your local groups and online, registering voters, fundraising, writing letters and post cards, blogging, and spreading the word, telling the truth, debunking smears. Yup. None of that registers on the activity meter.

Go Obama Nation! Pat yourselves on the back! You are almost there. WE are almost there. Together, we have changed the fundamentals of elections forever. Behind the scenes. Quietly. Confidently. With poise and grace, in the footsteps of our 44th Commander in Chief and under the expert guidance of the campaign leaders.

(Pssst, don't tell the activity tracker, but I shook Al Gore's hand last weekend during an Obama fundraiser at which I volunteered. What a fantastic surrogate he is for this campaign!)

We Are Everywhere

So I've been off the blog for a few days. No TV because I like it that way. But headlines indicate it's been a tough day for the campaign. Oh well. There'll be tougher days.

You'll like this:

A few days ago I was planning my Women for Obama postcard party and e-mailed my local Dem headquarters to see if we can use the rented space for the event.

At the same time I was having an e-mail conversation with a CA CD1 Obama supporter online. He's doing pro-Obama videos and raising money to air them locally.

Five minutes into that conversation, the phone rang. It was the local Obama campaign. Apparently I'm on the list. *snicker* Of course I'm on the list. I've been volunteering for months. But. On the phone was this great woman from Iowa, out here on vacation with her family. She dropped in to phone bank to recruit volunteers at our local Obama camp leader's house. She had the "G" list. So we talked. We laughed. I promised to bring her tourist info when she visits our Dem GOTV booth tomorrow.

I hung up the phone and went to the grocery store. Wearing my Obama button. One of my favorite checkers noticed and I found out that he, too, is a supporter. He'll be volunteering soon.

I ran into a friend. Signed him up to canvass. He'll bring his wife.

Sunday we went to Berkeley. Yellow flyers stapled on every telephone pole near the university, seeking volunteers for the campaign. Little tear-off squares with a phone number. Yet another grassroots effort.

Last night my daughter played with Google Street View. Entered our address. My car shows in the driveway. Obama bumper sticker and all. Global advertising at its snoopiest.

We watched the last episode of the last season of Gilmore Girls. We're addicted, I admit it. It ends with the main character accepting a job as a reporter with the Obama campaign. Really. Watch it. You'll laugh.

My point: we are everywhere.

Sometimes there are a few dissenters on the blog. But there are thousands of supporters who never even visit the blog. Sometimes the MSM distorts and spins. But there are thousands who do not watch. Thousands behind the scenes, working the streets, talking the issues, making calls, registering voters, supporting change.

Don't ever let the hooplah get you down. We'll win this thing.

WORLD ROLL CALL

Back in 2004 I heard about this great speech. My ex-sister-in-law e-mailed an article that ran shortly thereafter and something about the words, that passion, those ideas, hooked me on hope. Back then, I remember discussing with her the idea that this senator would make a good President for a hurting world. Now, it's 2008 and more than ever before, we need a leader who will bring America together and as we hold hands on our soil united in hope, we also reach out to friends across the world, embracing the people of nations near and far, because today, right now, is our time to take on tomorrow and fix it.

So, welcome to my blog. This is WORLD ROLL CALL. For all people of all countries other than America, on these pages I would like to hear your story, your reasons, your vision of the dream. I believe that Barack Obama will unite the world, speak with friend and former foe. Tell us why you believe. Tell us why you hope. What does this President, at this time, mean to you? Why is "now" so important? Whether you are in Mexico, Thailand, China, South Africa, England, France, or Canada--wherever you live--I want to know your thoughts.

Post your response in the comments section. Sign your post with first name and your country. Americans abroad, what's the mood where you are? What do you hear and see? Weigh in, this is for you, too. I will compile all comments and when enough people have raised their hands in the WORLD ROLL CALL, I will share the musings, commonalities, thoughts, and hope with the mainstream blogs as well as our Obama family.

We are one. Peace to all.
