When Progress is not Enough!!!

Question: Since when is progress on an issue that has been around for years not enough? Answer: Since Barack Obama became President.

1.   "He hasn't created enough jobs" ... no, but he did avoid a second great depress ion, spurred economic growth, and saved or created up to 1.6M jobs.

2.   "He hasn't closed Gitmo" ... no, but he has found a new country/facility for all of the detainees.

3.   "He hasn't ended the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan" ... no, but half of the combat troops are home from Iraq, and we have a new strategy to finish the job in Afghanistan (including a timetable to start withdrawal).

4. "He hasn't closed the deal for healthcare reform" ... no, but it has passed the house, and is one week from passing the senate.

5. "He hasn't signed a legally-binding deal on climate change" ... no, but he has gotten India and China to agree to specific emissions reductions over the next 10-40 years.

6. "He hasn't stopped Iran's or N. Korea's nuclear programs" ... no, but Iran has agreed to a UN deal to ship low-enriched uranium to other countries for further enrichment; and N'Korea is rejoining 6-party talks.

7.   "He didn't repeal DOMA and DADT" ... no, but he did sign the Hate Crimes legislation that had been pursued for 11 years. He also re-iterated his promise to repeal DOMA/DADT in due time.

8. "He hasn't created peace in the Middle East" ... I won't even address how dumb that statement is.

9.   "He didn't deserve the Nobel Prize for Peace" ... YES, HE MOST CERTAINLY DID!!!

Since when is this kind of progress seen as a lack of accomplishments during a first year in office? Since Barack Obama became President... that's when.

Economic Recovery House Meeting - Change has come to America!

Tom and I hosted an Economic Recovery House Meeting on Saturday, February 7, 2009. We host all our meetings at Tom and Glen's home. We had 9 participants. We knew what to expect as we have hosted a few meetings. The new comers are not quite sure how this is going to work and are a little shy. The old timers are looking for the snacks and grabbing their favorite spot. The introductions and hospitality of Tom and Glen put everyone at ease.

We introduce ourselves and tell why we were motivated to get out on a Saturday afternoon to talk politics. For the new attendees the over whelming comment was anger at how the process of passing the American Recovery and Reinvestment Package(ARRP) was proceeding. Their next reason was the inclusiveness of the Obama campaign and wanting to be a part of this movement.

We passed out the ARRP Texas impact sheet. We watched Gov. Tim Kaine's video (twice) because people and a lot of questions and were taking notes. We had a great discussion about the video, the process in Washington, and what we as a group could do going forward.

The main question (because we are in Texas) was, "Is trying to do anything worth it since we know our representatives don't represent us?" We gave them a resounding YES. You still must call and voice your opinion, because they are saying that none of their constituents are for this package.

Another issue was about the actual projects that are going to get approved. How does that work. I told them about the mayors list. They wanted to know if those lists included the most needy areas of our community or just the mayors pet projects. Which projects would get priority with the committee? They definately wanted to make sure that the most needy areas of the city were addressed. I was tasked with finding the list of projects. They were concerened about balancing the budget. My explanation was "You can't talk about a plan for balancing the budget, before you know how much of a hole you are going to have to dig out of." Also, it takes 2-3 years to get out a situation like this.

Our first timers felt more informed about the facts surrounding the ARRP and better equipped to answer questions from their family, friends and associates.

Our immediate action item was to call, fax, e-mail or write our representatives at their DC office and/or their local Texas office.

We then proceed to have a great fellowship after the meeting was over. Some people left before we remembered to take the picture. I was the photographer using Tom's cell phone, because I forgot the camera.

is a great idea!

My review of the night was that it was a huge success. I did watch the PBS coverage of the event to see what the talking heads were saying. I especially liked the Clinton supporter comment to the persistant question asked of all Clinton supports throughout the night:

I was for Hillalry Clinton we worked hard but unfortunatly we fell short, NOW, I am 100% for Barack Obama. (The interviewer asked 100%?) She said 100%!

I loved it! So much for trying to divide Democrats! We are not so divided as the "media" would suggest.

Ted Kennedy was great. Michelle was great. I loved the "real" Americans that spoke. I loved the town hall question and answer period. It must be really exciting for those Americans who could not attend the convention, have their video question answered.

Again, I solute technology. We need to pay attention to how this technology is regulated in the future.

I like the fact that I can watch the whole day. So even though I couldn't be there, this is the next best thing!

Hello Guam,

Well, I am probably a typical American with no real knowledge of Guam's history. This campaign has opened my eyes to a lot that goes on in this country and around the world.

Thanks to this campaign, I will be watching and supporting the legislation that was mentioned, the Guam World War II Loyalty Recognition Act. I hope that the opportunities that are presented result in long-term economic prosperity for "all" of Guam's citizens. It looks as if you are uniquely poised to take an opportunity and maximize it to the benefit of all your citizens.

Good Luck and I also, while never having lived in Hawaii, look forward to working with the people of Guam to continue strengthening bonds between us in the 21st Century.

Thanks for all your hard work on this campaign. This is your moment. This is your time!

I just watched Michelle Obama speak in Tyler TX. I had never heard her before. It was streamed live on CNN.com/Live. It was inspirational, practical and real. This is change we can believe in. She will be a marvelous First Lady!

Precinct 3527 Canvass

Precinct 3527 had a very successful canvass. Congrats go to Tom Forsyth for coordinating this event. We covered virtually every house on our canvass list. We got to meet and talk to our neighbors. We encouraged them to vote and also learned about their concerns for our neighborhood and country. I was really encouraged by one of my senior neighbors (she is well past 80) who told me she grew up in a strong Democratic family but when she got married she followed her husbands vote (Republican). She told me "but this year it's time for a change and I told my husband, I'm voting for Obama!"

It was a really good day.

The Campaign Experience

Hello all,

The Obama campaign has given rise to a number of 1st in my life; 1st campaign contribution, 1st time to be phone bank caller; and the final out of the box action for me -- CANVASSING!

I walked the precinct yesterday with the precinct team. It was a wonderful experience. I met a lot of wonderful neighbors. It is still out of the box for me, but I will go out again.
