I need to say that I have been quite prolific writing on my home blog, electricedge.com/zoe, but less so here. Despite my Carpal Tunnel flaring up [both hands] I have been getting the word out via email and my blog and whomever I run into or speak to, but it still isn't enough if we become complacent and not vote.
My concerns in my earlier post were addressed most clearly by the 1/2 hour ad that I saw, and it is clear that Barack's intentions are aligned with my hopes, but I guess reality may derail actions and priorities, but I so hope that getting us out of Iraq and Afghanistan and subsequent shutting down the excess of bases where our troops currently are is one of his first acts as President...
but I still am not counting those proverbial chickens before they hatch... I can't imagine that "dirty tricks" have stopped from the Republican side yet.
I am still yelling at my TV, but at shows where people seem to be "conceding" that Barack won -- this is not a truth yet!
And, while the campaign is firing up, Bush is doing scary things that fall below the radar, with missile strikes, and "phase II" of the Bush Doctrine, so we can't sleep or take our "eyes off the road".
I am so very excited about the potential -- kind of like xmas eve for the past 10 days, waiting to hear the words I long for, that Barack Obama won!
..but this is such a hard time, and a country full of mounting horrors to inherit, that I sincerely hope that politicians truly set aside party and ego, to see the scary path we're on, and unites and stands with Obama to get things done with incredible speed.
If my xmas morning feeling is going to come to fruition, there need to be a shift in attitude and partisanship.
Dare to dream?##
I lost my appetite watching the bit with Palin implying Obama had "terrorist ties" [never specifying the type of "terrorist" - anti-war back in Nam] and her stating the gloves had to come off 'cuz we're less than a month away [horrors] and then went on to state that "we" are the americans.
So, why can't we do the same? Sure intellectual plans are great for the mostly converted -- we eat these ideas up, but we need to take a page from the Reps and try some easy attacks counterpointed by our fabulousness, or fellow "Mainstreeters" or even political plans, but how about using some of their way too succesful tactics such as an ad where she speaks to the fact that we are just plain Americans at the end of her attack on Obama and counter with:
The typical American? How can she dare say that she is like "the good American people" and is a Maverick and Rebel who wants to challenge government intervetion in our lives, when she BANS BOOKS?
Or just what is her personal "just plain folx" economic household worth? I heard it's close to 1 million. How can that person sounding 'folksy' be able to relate to me?
And let's not forget that she can't keep communications going within her own home, teaching her right wing fanatical belief about sex prior to marriage when her own daughter rebels, or was she just uneducated enough to know to use protection during sex?
She appears to be an attractive woman, yet she walks the walk and talks the talk of a mysogist man. No woman would ever be able to justify charging $1200 to suspected rape victims to have the rape kit test. What does she think..that the victim was "asking for it"? Even if the perp was found guilty, there is no refunding then. A woman doesn't punish women, nor take away the very rights that were won so dearly, the right that allows one to be in control over her own body.
There are sound bites to be had and sloganized so they are remembered now abd become a part of our normal dialogue & speak to more people than theirs.
I know that my shouting at my TV screen on Friday would not reach Barack's ears, but I couldn't help myself. I offered such IMNSHO sage advice!!! But, when the questions regarding how to save money in the new administration when "you are president", what do you think needs to be cut, or where are tax dollars are going, no matter how loud I shouted the right answer, the answer Barack ran his primary on, he never said "Stop the War".
Instead, I fear I heard about getting involved in MORE conflicts.
I also heard words like "take them out" when speaking of Pakistan (not removed troops, but kill Pakistanis).
Color me flabbergasted. I can accept a few "hawkish" words, after all politics is politics, but just because McCain is a "war hero" [I do use those quotes with meaning - he suffered horrifically, but does that a hero make?] does this mean that Barack should be playing on McCain's turf, instead of Barack Obama's forte? His foresight to never be for spending and a war in Iraq?
This is what set him apart so strongly in the primaries.
I would write to Barack Obama directly if there were any "contact us" options left on this site, but I have yet to find it.
