Mr Hitchens holds nothing higher than himself. The evidence shows that his only cause is to build celebrity and sell books by being angry, intolerant and sometimes narrow minded (see: Ann Colter)
Every time he speaks he is taking the stage away the true worthy and relevant voices of atheism like Ellen Johnson, Richard Dawkins and yourself.
Hitchens doesn’t speak for me or any atheist I know. I recommend he be removed from your advisory board.
I would appreciate an official (or personal) Secular Coalition of America position on self serving celebrity atheists like Christopher Hitchens.
Thanks you.
Response:
Thanks for your concern and interest in the Secular Coalition for America. None of us agrees with all statements of our fellow atheists, but we would rather concentrate on promoting nontheism and separation of religion from government than on attacking other atheists. Whatever his faults, Hitchens is an accomplished and articulate best-selling author who at least helps bring atheism into the public square. A decade ago, we were almost completely ignored. Now it is up to each of us to put the kind of face on atheism we like. We hope you are receiving our action alerts and will help us show our strength in numbers when we lobby in the halls of Congress. Thank you. Herb Silverman Secular Coalition for America, President
The results of our first Utah Generation Obama event were fantastic. Nearly $500 raised from $5 per person minimum donations.
Thanks to Ben Raskin and The Woodshed for hosting the event and Rob Miller for being our special guest speaker.
