It's Official!!

Barack Obama is now OFFICIALLY the Democratic Party's Nominee for President of the United States!

Joe Biden is now OFFICIALLY the Democratic Party's Nominee for Vice President of the United States!

Now... let's get down to business and get him elected!!! :)

100 Days... 100 Names!!

We are planning an event for the 100 Days Mark (the day that marks having only 100 days left before Election Day!). Day 100 is July 27, 2008... Details will be coming shortly, but it will most likely be a picnic in a Rockwall Park...

Our goal for this event is to raise awareness that there are only 100 days left and to get 100 names of volunteers willing to participate in these final 100 days before Election Day!

With this goal in mind, if you are new, please join us and get your name added to our list... if you are a "regular" bring a new person to the picnic and get them added to our list!

Please, everyone, get out there this week and get awareness up that time is running out and Rockwall Democrats need to come together and get FIRED UP AND READY TO GO!!

Rockwall Team Building Meeting - 06/12/2008

Hello, everyone!

We had a nice little turnout tonight for our initial Team Building meeting. We had 10 attendees, most of whom seemed fairly new to the group! This was a great start, but we hope to have more people at next week's meeting!

We discussed the issues we will face with regards to funds. Pretty much it comes down to, we cannot raise money for our group. Any money spent will be out-of-pocket because if we raise funds, TX law requires us to be a PAC. If we are a PAC, the National Obama Campaign will not recognize us as a group. This means that we will be mostly working hard on our feet knocking on doors, so get out your walking shoes everybody!

We also discussed everyone needing to get the word out about our candidate via yard signs, t-shirts, stickers, bumper stickers etc... every little bit of exposure we can get helps! If you don't have any of these items, ask the group or order something from the campaign... store.barackobama.com Also, it was suggested that if you can afford to buy multiples of items (like the 50 pack of stickers) do so and share with people you meet to help get them excited about the campaign!

In general, we decided on two main goals for this group...
    1. Get Barack Obama elected in November
    2. Build up the Democratic Party in Rockwall County

We plan to meet again at the Country Cafe next Thursday, June 19, 2008 for a second team building meeting. Everyone was sent home with the following homework to help work toward goal #1:
    1. Become a voter registrar. This will enable each of us to register anybody we come into contact with in our neighborhood canvasses. You can do this at the County Elections Adminstrator office, located at 107 E Kaufman in Rockwall.
    2. Bring a friend to the next meeting... we want to at least double our numbers before we start canvassing the county! Also, Susan is the owner of Every Body Massage in Rockwall and has offered as incentive to bring new people a free massage to the person who brings the most guests with them next week!
    3. Think about the "job" we want to be in charge of for this group. For example, if you are interested in organizing the canvassing, then that could be your group job...
    4. Think about what kinds of things we want to be prepared to say when we do actually start talking to the people. We all need to be uniform in our responses when we start getting the "hard" questions...

This is going to be a great group! If you have any ideas about things we haven't thought of, please come to next week's meeting and share with everyone! We would love your input! Also, if Thursday nights will definitely NOT work for you, please let us know... we are still in the organizing stages of this group, so we want to accommodate as many as we can...
