Due to the Secret Service advising those supporters with disabilities NOT to attend the Inauguration, lack of interest and the material being covered adequately in other sources, this group will cease activity as of December 23, 2009.
Anyone who needs some info is welcome to O-mail me and I will do my best to help.
Majel Barrett Roddenberry died this morning of leukemia. She was 76 and had just completed the voiceovers for the new Star Trek movie prequel due out in May, 2009. Her portrayal of Number One gave me the courage to believe I could be whatever I wanted to be and know that others would accept women in leadership roles without the loss of their femininity. Her humanity was expressed on this earth by her great love for Gene and her compassion for those who cannot speak for themselves, our animal population.
We all will miss her.
Ok, folks, it’s time to ramp up this group.
For anyone who is traveling to D.C. for the inauguration, please join us, if you live in NV or not. As the group expands, and hopefully within the next week, we will begin posting links, travel news, and more.
I realize everyone is busy with the holidays but to make it work, we all need to contribute to the group.
I am posting this to all the Nevada and California groups to which I belong, as well as a few, select others. The first step is joining the group and here’s the link:
Thank you to everyone who will help us enjoy the privilege of watching PE Obama take the oath of office.

William B. Newell, a Penobscot Indian and former chairman of the Anthropology department at the University of Connecticut, says that the first official Thanksgiving Day celebrated the massacre of 700 Indian men, women and children during one of their religious ceremonies. "Thanksgiving Day" was first proclaimed by the Governor of the then Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1637 to commemorate the massacre of 700 men, women and children who were celebrating their annual Green Corn Dance...Thanksgiving Day to the, "in their own house", Newell stated. "Gathered in this place of meeting, they were attacked by mercenaries and English and Dutch. The Indians were ordered from the building and as they came forth were shot down, The rest were burned alive in the building-----The very next day the governor declared a Thanksgiving Day.....For the next 100 years, every Thanksgiving Day ordained by a Governor was in honor of the bloody victory, thinking God that the battle had been won." In June 1637 John Underhill slaughtered a pequot village in just the manner described above. Narranganset Indians were used as the mercenaries. Governor John Endicott of the Massachusetts Bay Colony proclaimed the pequot war. A pequot chief of sachem named sassacus warred against the Dutch in 1633 over the death of his father. The pequot made no distinction between the Dutch and the English. The Underhill massacre was witnessed and documented by William Branford and an engraving was made illustration the massacre. The Jamestown Colony may be the source for the tradition of Indians under the leadership of Powhaton joining with early settlers for a dinner and helping those settlers through the winter. There were no pilgrims of puritans at Jamestown, however. The present Thanksgiving may therefore be a mixture of the tradition of the Jamestown dinner and the commemoration of the Pequot massacre. The celebration of Thanksgiving as an official holiday possibly roots in the Pequot massacre, while the imagery is of Jamestown with pilgrims, images misused.

We here in Las Vegas are watching the wildfires in L.A. and are so sad that so many of you have lost their homes. Is there anything we can do?
Can we organize a food, clothing or personal necessities drive for you? Is there a church or charity taking donations? Do you need cages and/or food for animals? We're pretty good at organizing here so just let us know how we can help and we'll coordinate a drive to help you.
If we don't all practice what the campaign taught us, we have learned nothing.
Fred and I have worked very hard for the past eleven months. For the last three weeks of the election, we were a canvass-staging location, transforming our home into an outlying headquarters with training, refreshments and debriefing for local and out-of-state volunteers, with local candidates detailing their platforms. Our efforts were rewarded and we are delighted with the national and local outcomes.
We realize that most members of our families and friends do not agree with us or the new administration and that’s perfectly fine. Any society must have room for disagreement. However, Fred and I are compelled to avidly work toward the actualization of our beliefs. We now support a non-conservative agenda and will continue to work tirelessly for those who have little or no voice in our democratic process.
Anytime you wish to visit, you are certainly most welcome but please remember this is now a liberal household and we certainly intend to keep it that way. We are a volunteer headquarters. You may encounter members of the Black Caucus, Gay Pride, Si Se Puede, Asian/American Caucus, Grassroots Coalition for Change or Western Atheists for Obama (which Suzie founded). We will be hosting and attending meetings with any and all of these caucuses, working very hard to further the spirit of volunteerism, brotherhood and patriotism that President-Elect Barack Obama has fostered in all of us.
Some of our immediate plans include teaching English to Mexican immigrants so they can take the citizenship test, the repeal of Proposition 8 in our neighboring state of California, assuring reproductive rights, and finding new ways to help the homeless here in Las Vegas, where rampant foreclosures and a high percentage of unemployment are hindering efforts to return these families to a mainstream lifestyle centered on work and reward. We are also supporting the Sierra Club, which promotes awareness of endangered Western and Alaskan wildlife, including mountain lions, wolves and polar bears, which are faced with the deterioration of their habitats due to global warming and human encroachment. In addition, veterans’ services must be expanded and enhanced to meet the needs of our service members and their families. And most important of all, we demand government funding for embryonic stem cell research in hopes of a cure for Fred.
We love our family very much but also want to be very clear. We are happy that our lifestyle and our home have changed from complacency to idealism and activism. If you are uncomfortable in a diverse group with conversation promoting liberal ideals, please stay elsewhere during your visit but you are always welcome and we’d love to see you. If you would like to know more about our activities, we can provide information in print, on the Internet, or with volunteers in your city. We welcome your help and invite you to join with us in any or all of our goals – there is much work to be done if we Americans are to take back our country.
When we are in YOUR homes, we will refrain from discussing controversial beliefs or other insensitive behavior. Please afford us the same respect. If we don’t make this mutual promise, we will remain estranged.
We sincerely want to put our differences aside. We hope Barack Obama’s Presidency brings us common understanding, allowing each of us to pursue our chosen paths, and that we can work together to create something better, something bigger than ourselves, for all the children of our Earth.
If you can catch this on your TV, it's absolutely frightening. Just listen to the children being indoctrinated into creationism because "it's what the Bible says". There is one young man who wants to win the Nobel prize working in a creationist lab in biology. It boggles the mind!
We must ensure that children are taught real science in our schools. I believe PE Obama, even though he's a professed Christian, will observe the letter of the U.S. Constitution and separate church and state.
If he can't or won't, there will be dire consequences.
I have already noted I have received negative comments and then threats regarding our peaceful anti-Palin demonstration in Henderson, NV. To those of you that have threatened me, I hope you read this post to a group of Republican voters who support Obama and were horrified at my story:
What is horrible is that I was ever associated with a party that would countenance neonazi members. I know some of you are still members of the Republican Party but I will NEVER be again. I'm not very strong or brave. I had to go to bed with a headache that would not quit until today, when I got up and made dinner for my campaign staff running the canvass from my house, made dinner for the voter protection unit across town, made 2 loaves of banana bread and one sticky toffee cake, ordered the meat for tomorrow's dinner for the campaign and realized what my houseguest (an attorney from NY here for voter protection) told me...Important things are often very difficult. They are. And here is my personal message to those who would trample my First Amendment rights.I won't quit. Come and get me, you bastards. I am ready and I won't stop until Barack Hussein (it's only a name, not a terrorist password) Obama is POTUS.I am calling your game, you cowards. I realized that I am no longer afraid. I just found my BACKBONE!We are the ones we've been waiting for!Yeah!!!Suzie
Last week my husband Fred and I printed up the flyer that compares the tax plans of Obama and McCain. Along with the Economic flyer, we have been distributing these to everyone we contact throughout the day. Here's how today went:
Early this afternoon we left home for 2 doctor appointments. While driving, fell into the lane behind a truck plastered with McCain/Palin stickers (the only one we saw all afternoon!). On our way across town, saw a car with an Obama bumper sticker.
At the first appointment, Fred gave away 3 bumper stickers and 3 buttons to the nurses and spoke with another patient about Barack's healthcare plan.
We went to lunch and sighted another car with multiple Obama bumper stickers. At lunch, a patron someone stopped me who saw my button of the Obama family. Gave away 2 buttons and 2 tax plan brochures.
After second doctor appointment, talked politics to the doctor (agreeing Sarah Palin is grossly underqualified) and gave her 2 bumper stickers and a button. She was nice enough to tell me that after the last visit when I spoke so passionately about my admiration and respect for Obama, it inspired her to research Barack and now she is 100% behind him. Afterward, I gave her nurses 3 bumper stickers, brochures and made sure they were registered to vote.
On the ride home, another Obama bumper sticker was sighted in my 98% Republican neighborhood!
Four hours later....sitting here imagining what November 4 will be like if everyone is as successful as we were today.
Fired Up! Ready to Go!
Recently, I left another non-theist group with a wide presence on www.barackobama.com because of their dictatorial methods, including blocking posts and members who held views with which they disagreed. I emphatically believe that this grossly conflicts with my personal conviction that all opinions should be heard and no one shall be denied free speech.
Voila, Western Atheists for Obama - a place where opinions can be freely given without fear of reprisal, no blog posts are censored, all subjects are fit for discussion and no member is blocked.
In the coming days and weeks, all members are invited to partake of free discussion of all issues related to electing Barack Obama and/or non-theism. And if you have another topic you wish to discuss, that's OK, too.
The preservation of free speech as one of our most primal liberties will prevail on this group.
Presidential Race
Sarah Palin, the Republican vice presidential nominee, will campaign in Carson City on Saturday, according to the Carson City Republican Central Committee:

Come out and show your Obama gear!
Governor Sarah Palin, by refusing to allow her daughter the additional choice of adoption or termination of her pregnancy, has condemned her daughter to instant adulthood. Statistics reveal that young parents forced into marriage have an extremely high rate of divorce, spousal and drug abuse; interrupted education; and a child or children reared by relatives while the custodial parent, hampered by lack of skills and schooling, works to provide for the family. While her daughter may have a better support system and more financial freedom than other young mothers, the majority of families would view this situation as a social and economic disaster.
Additionally, Governor Palin would impose her views on ALL American women, including victims of rape and incest. Is this the judgment we want in a Vice President?
Two weeks ago, I had never registered a voter in Nevada. Too hot, I thought, to sit or stand in +100 degree weather for just a few applications. And I love hosting house parties and meeting new people – I’ll just do that instead.
Then my field organizer, Cameron Asgarian, told me he had a table and chairs in the shade and I thought, “Why not? It sounds doable and I can easily work it into my schedule for the day”.
Five minutes after I sat at the table…WOW! Talking to people about Obama, graciously sharing the space with the McCain table registering Republicans, registering new voters, giving away the buttons on my blouse because I had no others to give out, hearing over and over how many feel that Obama IS their voice. I am now hooked on voter reg! It’s a fantastic experience and I urge everyone to give as much time as they possibly can to this effort. We only have until October 4 to register new voters at locations other than the Elections Office.
We may need every single vote we bring in. Nevada is a battleground state. Let’s show the world we are Battle Born and determined to elect the candidates on our ticket, Barack/Biden!
