Today, February 26th is my husband's 39th birthday. The best birthday present in the world would be for Barack Obama to be elected President! He'll have to wait until November so in the meantime, our donations make a difference in helping Senator Obama's campaign. In honor of my husband's birthday, will you make a $39 donation to the campaign on my personal fundraising page? Of course, donations of all sizes are welcome.

Can't sleep

Insomnia struck again tonight, but it was accompanied by the inspiration to write. I haven't written a poem in a very long time, and was kept awake by snippets running through my head. I figured that maybe if I wrote it all down, my brain would shut up and I could finally get some sleep. Here's the sonnet I wrote that was inspired by Barack Obama. If you like it and want to repost it, please copy the entire poem, including my name. I don't want someone taking credit for my poem. It may not be Shakespeare, but it's mine.
"What Started as a Whisper"
by Suzanne Beam
Barack Obama called us to his side
To lead our nation down the path of change
To stand together, strong and unified
To reach for things we'd long thought out of range
To look no further than yourself to see
The place where power genuinely lies
That each and ev'ry one of us can be
A light of hope against the darkened skies
To see that what divides us is so small
It can't prevent us working hand in hand
To make a better future for us all
To heal the broken souls throughout this land
What started as a whisper in the breeze
Became a chorus, roaring like the seas

In my twelve years of voting eligibility, I have never before donated to a campaign. Until last night. After news of the Clintons giving themselves a 5 million dollar "loan", I decided that it was high time to put my money where my mouth and heart are... with the Obama campaign. I decided that I needed to invest in the future of America. Today, I saw the new goal set for us: 500,000 new donors by March 4th. We haven't let Barack down yet, and I'm not about to start now. I pledged to match a donation made by a donor who is new to the Obama campaign. I am urging all of you out there to do the same, at what ever dollar amount is comfortable for you. Every little bit helps. Obama and Clinton are in a dead heat and if the Clintons keep dipping into their personal coffers to fund Hillary's campaign, we need to keep Barack one financial step ahead. Remember, you can also help by phone banking for upcoming primary/caucus states; canvassing if you live in such a state; and sending left over campaign materials to such states!

Call me slow, but it just dawned on me this morning that I have the use of some very high visibility real estate, as it were. My husband and I run a business on the Vestal Parkway. This is not an organized event, but we would like to offer use of our location to ANY Obama supporters who would like to use it for voting day visibility with signage and whatnot. Approximately 33,000 vehicles each day drive on the Vestal Parkway. We own Artifex and are located halfway in between Walmart and Target on the Walmart side. We are in between Ken Wilson Chevrolet and Coral Isle Pools, directly across from Starbucks. We have a small plot of grass between the parking lot and the shoulder of the road where people could stand or sit (if you brought a chair) with signs to support Obama and help get out the vote. Our business is open 12-7 and any supporters there during those hours are welcome to come inside for a few minutes to warm up or use the bathroom as needed. If you are driving to particicpate, we ask that you pull around back and use the parking spaces behind our building and not the customer parking out front.

Tattooed Supporters of Obama
I want to extend my thanks to Ryan, Karen, and the others who co-ordinated tonight's debate party at the Lost Dog. Despite some "technical difficulties" is was a very nice event. I was really pleased to see such a large and diverse turnout for the event. I'm hoping to participate in the visibility rally Sunday, but am still dealing with a bad case of bronchitis... so outdoor activities may be out of the question for me. I'm also very proud that the Obama campaign reached it's 250,000 donor goal for the month of January. Let's keep the ball rolling as we move forward to Super Tuesday!!!

My husband and I are going to attend the Debate Party at the Lost Dog Cafe in Binghamton on Thursday. Anyone else who would like to go can visit the Binghamton for Obama group for more info. I'm so excited that Barack won S.C. Even better is the endorsement by the Kennedy family. Ted, Caroline, and Patrick's endorsement of our candidate is a huge plus for the casmpaign, as well as a firm smack against the Clintons. I can't say that I'm really surprised by the hate tactics employed last week by the Clintons, but I am certainly saddened by it. For my part, I am trying to help spread the truth about Barack Obama by posting information gathered from the Know the Facts area of Obama's website on Myspace. I am looking forward to next Tuesday, even though I cannot vote for Obama (I'm not registered as a Democrat). I think Obama's message of positive change for our future is really catching on and making an impact!!!

The primaries are about to get underway. I want to urge all registered Democrats to participate in their state's primary and show support for Barack Obama. If you're not a registered voter, please sign up. You can do it right from www.barackobama.com. Each supporter can make a difference. If we want our nation to change for the better, WE need to help make that happen.

Victory!
By

I'm very excited that our candidate had such a big win last night in Iowa. My husband and I were glued to MSNBC during that caucus. We've been waiting nearly four years for this to happen. Ever since Obama's speech at the 2004 DNC, we've known that he should be the next president. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a similar victory on Tuesday in NH.
