Over the past few weeks, I along with my precinct's delegates and alternates have discovered what the words 'YES WE CAN' really means. When Texas held their Primary on March 4, we only won 4 out of 15 delegates in our precinct. But thanks to the training we attended prior to the Primary and the Clinton supporters not being very organized, I was nominated Precinct Secretary. Needless to say, it was a very interesting evening working with a Precinct Chair who did not support my candidate. That night is how I came about the names and contact info of our delegates and alternates. Due to the overwhelming desire by several voters to be a delegate, I ended up as an alternate. However, be it known that all 8 of us were new to the political process.
Two weeks later, I began contacting them to make sure they were planning to attend delegate convention training. Thanks to most everyone's commitment to this campaign, most of them were able to attend the training. Those that didn't were coached at the convention this morning before the convention officially started. Of course, everyone was interested in going to Denver. However, we huddled and decided who was going to be our nominee and discussed our strategy knowing that it would be tough but that it was not impossible. Only 9 of them showed up but there were still only 4 of us (not counting me) and there was only 1 delegate and 1 alternate at stake.
Well it worked! The team executed their plan very cautiously and patiently. They held their ground, were assertive and positioned themselves firmly despite strong opposition and attempts by the others to cheat.
Even though we lost the alternate, we WON the delegate to the State Convention!
Congratulations to the delegates in SD 6 Precinct 302 for their resilience and superb team effort in standing up for what they believe in.
This is an excellent example of what all of us can accomplish together. It's these little wins that will take our candidate all the way to the White House so I encourage everyone to BELIEVE because anything is possible if we really want it!
