My thoughts on the campaign
"Fruitcake understanding of the Constitution"

Yes, these right-wingers really like to put down their opponents. If James Dobson has so little respect for our candidate, perhaps I will say the same thing about Dobson sometime somewhere.
You may have heard that the words "separation of church and state" are nowhere to be found in the Constitution. I would suppose it is a fact, although I have not gone so far as to do a computer search on the Constitution. The Right Wing has given it much publicity. There is another fact they have most certainly not publicized. The First Amendment contains the words, "no law respecting an establishment of religion." This is something that really needs to be better known if we are going to be able to compete with the Right Wing.
A few years ago I tried asking two lawyers about the words "separation of church and state", and they both answered right off the bat. They were Greg Gladden, once President of the ACLU of Texas, and David Van Os, who ran for Attorney General of Texas. Greg and I once served together on the board of the Houston chapter of ACLU. I am a layperson.
Last week I wrote our candidate a letter suggesting he quote the establishment clause in public discussion and help publicize it. I do think we need to have more candidates talking about it, rather than ceding discussion of the text of the Constitution to the Right Wing.
