The folks at internet radio company Slacker have created a radio station based on the favored music of Barack Obama and his campaign.
Obama Radio includes Senator Obama's personal song picks (as detailed a recent Blender Magazine article), tracks from his favorite artists (specified in articles in Rolling Stone and others), music heard at Obama events and several tracks from the Yes We Can: Voices of a Grassroots Movement CD. Many of the tracks from that CD include portions of Obama's speeches mixed into the songs.
You'll hear Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Nina Simone, John Mellencamp, James Brown, Ben Harper, John Mayer, India.Arie and many more.
Check it out here: http://www.slacker.com/?sid=prog:1277 and spread the word. It's a great addition to any Obama party, phone bank or just good listening.
YES WE CAN!
I believe this election is the calling of our lifetime to save the tattered fabric of our youthful democratic experiment which, in my mind, hangs in the balance. It's absolutely imperative that every American citizen exercise their power of citizenry and make their voices heard. It's also critical that we steer this country down a new path, away from what seems our be our expedited demise. In a current sea of cynacism and despondency, devisiveness and fear, one voice rises like a tidal wave of inspiration with a towering message of hope and progress. That voice is Barack Obama. America hasn't seen a transformational Presidential figure in a very long time. A leader that can offer promise and hope; a passionate voice that speaks to and for all Americans. A true visionary that can talk to the American people with candor and strength, even in the face of powerful opposition and popular dissent. I see that kind of leadership in Barack Obama. He understands that the empowerment the individual to write their destiny and act on the greatness within themselves is what makes the hope of America great and it's citizenry truly free. Obama brings to the table a wealth of strengths and experience, but, what really sets him apart from the other candidates is his combination of intelligent and progressive policy initiatives, a hopeful vision for the future and a transformational mantra that can unite our country by affirming our overwhelming commonalities while deemphasizing our infinitesimally small differences. With a leader like Obama, we are no longer a country of liberal and conservative, black, brown or white, old or young, gay or straight, christian or secular. We are, first and foremost, Americans, working and living together for a common goal of prosperity while once again becoming a beacon of hope for countries around the world looking to us for guidance in their path to freedom and democracy.America can be great again, both in the eyes of it's citizens and the envy of the world, if it has the leadership to progress and transform. I believe, Barack Obama is that leader. As a leader, Americans will also experience the notion of commonality as they will not see the back of Barack Obama as he takes us to the Promised Land of opportunity and hope that America offers, but, he will walk side-by-side, hand-in-hand, bringing us together on a march towards prosperity and greatness. That is why I am voting for Barack Obama and why I encourage you to do the same as well as convince everyone you know to do the same and help the campaign by volunteering, even if just for an hour. Revolutions don't happen despite people's good intentions and best efforts, they happen because of them.
