Good Morning,
I was so happy to see that I had comments posted on my first blog. To all who took the time to visit, I thank you. Since this is my second blog (WHEEEE!!), what should I say? Here goes.
As teacher, and now a School Board Member, my work has always involved children. Too often, we hear the refrain, "Children are our future". Unfortunately, many of those who speak, do not really understand what that actually means.
We must fully understand that children will become adults and decision makers. If we do not prepare our children for that transition from child to adult, the problems of the world will never be solved. Thus, for me, Barack Obama is transformational. I have been spending a lot of time talking with "kids". They are focused like a laser on this election. Their willingness to believe in the "impossible" is starting to grow. We must continue to nurture that hope. In Prince George's County, like in many urban districts, many of our children are struggling academically. Their homes are not refuges for them, but rather combat zones.
The Obama Campaign is a beacon. Our Superintendent and the the 8 other Board Members, spent 2 weeks, of graduations, pushing our students to get involved in this election. It is definitely working. Our voter registration rolls are soaring. I believe, and now my students are starting to believe: YES WE CAN!
Tell me what you think about our youth and Barack Obama's message.
This is my very first blog. I have been reading the other bloggers for some time now. Let me tell you a little about myself.
I am 62 years old (soon to be 63). I live in Laurel, Md which is a suburb of Washington, DC. For those of you who are familiar with this area, I live near Columbia, Fort Meade, DC, Northern, Va. All of these locations are within 20 minutes or less of my home.
I am a retired Spanish and French Teacher. I taught public school in Prince George's County, MD for 35 years. Now, I am an elected School Board Member of my county. I have always been passionate about Democatic Politics. My first campaign was for Robert Kennedy. While I have worked for other candidates, Barack Obama has reinvigorated the same passion that I had for Robert Kennedy's Campaign.
The link below is from today's BBQ Picnic and Rally in Riverdale, MD. Today's temperature was 100 degrees, but our county's supporters came out in force. From the pictures, you will see what Barack Obama has done for America. He has joined Black, White, Asian, Young and Old. Today's Picnic Rally was well attended. By the end of the day, nearly 100 people came and brought tons of food. We had a DJ who had an incredible collection of songs in praise of Barack Obama.
Nearly, every elected official of the county came. We had super delegates and our newest, soon to be Congresswoman, Donna Edwards (Replacing Al Wynn) for Congressional District 4 to the US Congress.
As we go through the next 5 months, I will keep you informed of Maryland For Obama.
