You can tell that things are going good for Senator Obama: first, the opposition is ramping up the slime machine with Govenor Palin leading the slime; and second, when you get 28,000 folks in Western North Carolina to come out to see Obama in a rally.
If you do a population comparison between Asheville (~80k) and Portland Oregon (~585k) and the size of the crowds (28K vs 80k) and the relative blueness of the region (Asheville's county, Buncombe county, far and away the bluest county in the region, went for Bush last election), things are moving on the correct direction. But now is the time to re-double our efforts. Go volunteer today!! Find a local campaign HQ or use the web tools, but get your behinds in gear. As of today, there are only 29 days to go.
Oh yeah, Senator Obama's speech was excellent too! :-)
I've made the closest to big time that I've gotten so far (but not as good as Gary Prichard being on TV when they cut up our "Henderson County United for Obama" sign at BO HQ in Hendersonville last April during the primary). Here's the nc.barackobama.com blog location and the actual article in the Hendersonville Times-News.
I originally posted this as a response to Trish - A British Catholic In The USA For Obama but feel that it needs a wider distribution.
I was struck by Pope Benedict's the main theme as discussed in Time magazine:
Pope: World's Resources Wasted
The world's natural resources are being squandered in the pursuit of "insatiable consumption," Pope Benedict XVI said Thursday in a speech urging followers to care more for the environment and reconnect with the principle of peace.
After having someone grandiloquently intone excerpts from the Constitution and Bill of Rights, the ABC debate moderators basically spent almost an hour on gossip, innuendo, and right-wing 527 groups "Swift Boat" talking points against both candidates.
However, there was much more emphasis on Senator Obama's "sins":
This is a cautionary tale for anyone who, like me, might be not so good at reading their email. Last evening, I was upset because I repeatedly could not get into the tremendously busy Get Out the Vote (GOTV) calling page which I'd used several times earlier in the week. If I had read my email, I would have seen that my local group (WNC for Obama -- go team!!!) had an arrangement with a nearby Tennessee county for their GOTV list through a different server. Well, I now know:
READ YOUR EMAIL!!!
