Let's face it, the only place that LGBT is even mentioned on this website is under PEOPLE. It's not mentioned in VETERANS, FAMILIES or any other issue section. That's not by mistake. For most politicians, any and all things GAY are to be avoided like the plague, lest you have to actually take a stand that might turn out to effect swing voters. It's better to avoid the topic. Obama is no different. John McLame would like nothing more than to point at Obama's webpage and be able to quote verbatim any phrase in support of the Gay Agenda. Logically he'll avoid that at all costs.
Now, I know some of you newbies to the political arena are very taken by this man. He speaks well, says nice things and makes you actually feel like you believe in something. But, 16 years ago another man walked on to the political stage and said things that made me feel the same way. I watched very closely and for the first time in my life I felt like someone was actually going to do the right thing.
Bill Clinton took a few short months to sign "Don't Ask, Don't Tell, Don't Pursue" in the middle of the night. This after promising Gretha Cammermeyer, multi-bronze star, medal of honor winner, and actual American Hero, that he would sign an executive order to end discrimination in the military. To add salt to the wound he then signed the Defense of Marriage Act into law shortly after. So to those of you who think that what he says is what he'll do ... you're naive beyond belief.
Larry Kramer, founder of ACT UP, later called Bill Clinton "The Welcher" and Hillary "The Welcher's Wife". An often-maligned man, Larry was instrumental in streamlining AIDS drugs release thus saving countless peoples lives and actually giving countless others hope in the final weeks of their lives. Without Larry and ACT UP, NO ONE would have access to early release or experimental drug treatment to this day. Thanks, Larry. He was right then about ACT UP and he was dead on with the CLINTON's. Bill owes us one huge public apology. Until hell really does freeze over, they are both unredeemable to anyone who lives in the "Happier" part of town, regardless of if you love Hillary or not. And incidently, I do.
In contrast, Barack Obama has said very little and granted only a single interview to the Advocate. He has intentionally tried to not be the darling of the Gay media and only takes very safe positions on gay rights issues. He does not support Gay Marriage but does support civil unions. He believes all people should be treated with respect and be treated equal ... Blah, Blah, Blah. Safe, unsubstantial and irrelevant positions anyone interested in "No Heat", "Look Good" political claptrap could do with no risk.
That is all going to change now. He will, in future weeks, not be able to avoid exacting questions which will require him to take stances that aren't so "Slap my ass and call me Judy" feel good to a lot of the community. Some of us may actually prefer to make things worse so that they can actually, truly, get better later on. At least with McLame, you know what you are going to get. The McLame Campaign and Carl "Rosemary's baby" Rove will most definitely use California's recent decision on Gay Marriage to energize the Christian base against "the Extreme Liberalism" of the Democratic machine. Obama will have to come out of the No-Risk closet to actually address these attacks. Watch very closely. My opinion is that we should all fasten our seatbelts because we are going to be portrayed as the immoral pawns in this election campaign yet again ... and it's going to be a bumpy ride.
