Obama's Field General in Virginia, Mitch Stewart, is seeing solid statistical success from the aggressive surge of his blue troopers across the state. The count of Forward Operating Bases (local Virginia Obama HQ's) has recently topped 41.
From WashPo "State election officials told the [Obama] campaign Friday [9/5/08] that 49,000 new voters signed up in August, a sharp increase from the 36,500 who signed up in July and the 28,000 who registered in June."
"...the August gain puts the Obama campaign very much on track toward its goal of signing up 150,000 new voters by the early October voter registration deadline, on top of the 142,000 new voters who registered during primary season.""... [new voters]could add up to about 1.75 percent of the anticipated state vote... ""Nationally, more than 2 million Democrats have been added to the rolls in the 28 states that register voters according to party affiliation, according to the Associated Press. Republicans have lost nearly 344,000 thousand voters in the same states during the same period."

Harrisonburg Obama HQ Grand Opening
Wes Clark on MSNBC - John McCain's Leadership SkilsWes Clark rocks! He gives due respect to McCain's service, but "talks truth to the spin". McCain is not a proven leader in foreign policy and military strategy. "Bomb, Bomb, Bomb Iran" are lyrics... it is not a military strategy for the Middle East.I have followed Gen Clark since 2003. I was on his short-lived bandwagon. Bought the bumper stickers, and T-shirt! Thought he was the right guy for dealing with the post-9/11 world. I wasn't too happy when he choose HRC's campaign, but it looks to me like he's already re-positioned for some role in the Obama campaign. His book, "Winning Modern Wars - Iraq, Terrorism, and the American Empire" [2003] , is a great mil-strat read. For a military history wonk like me, it's a good critique of Gulf War II.Yes Sir, a great choice for VP! What a contrast he'd be to the last 8 years of Darth Cheney, who was always hiding somewhere, in an undisclosed location!

CONGRESSMAN JACKSON SAYS THAT
'THIS IS A DEFINING MOMENT IN HISTORY'
OBAMA TO ACCEPT NOMINATION ON 45TH ANNIVERSARY
OF THE 'I HAVE A DREAM' SPEECH
(Aug 28, 1963 - Aug 28, 2008)
Congressman Jesse L. Jackson, Jr. released the following statement
about Senator Barack Obama imminently clinching the Democratic
nomination for President of the United States of America:
"This is a defining moment in history as Senator Barack Obama is
poised to become the presidential nominee of the Democratic Party.
Senator Obama's nomination confirms Dr. King's observation that
'the moral arc of the universe' is long, but bends toward freedom
and justice for all.
"Senator Obama personifies a uniquely American story -- born to a
mother from Kansas and a father from Kenya. He affirms the motto
included in the Great Seal of the United States: E Pluribus Unum
-- Out of Many, One. He also reflects the American Dream --
'a skinny kid with a funny name' who came to Chicago's South
Side with 'no money and no connections' can run to become the
President of the United States of America.
"His campaign is just as uniquely American, made possible by the
great democratic movements of the 20th Century. The civil rights
movement, labor movement, women’s movement, peace movement, and
the environmental movement have opened society and expanded rights,
allowing more Americans to participate in and perfect our democracy.
"Barack Obama will accept the Democratic nomination for President
on August 28th -- the 45th Anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King,
Jr.'s 'I Have A Dream' Speech. In many ways, Senator Obama's
nomination as president is a fulfillment of a dream -- a dream
long deferred -- envisioning a country where people would 'not
be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their
character.'
"Clearly, Senator Obama has demonstrated his character, conviction
and capacity to lead our nation to a more perfect Union. And, the
American people have rallied and responded," Congressman Jackson
concluded.

This is crazy! The first election in 40 years, that I have taken personal action to make a difference. I have already given money, time and now will lose some more sleep over this election.
I head out to the polling places in my area of Augusta County, at 4:00 am tomorrow , to plant OBAMA yard signs! These were a rare few signs that made it to the local Dem HQ in the nick of time for distrubution to polling stations.
Thanks to all... young and old ... who are making the valiant effort here in VA.
I had a phonebank call Monday evening, from a very nice 73 yr old lady from CALIFORNIA... making sure I was supporting Barak. How cool was that!? Made my day and her day at the same time.
Fight On... YES WE CAN!
