Even though the election is only 3 days away it doesn't mean our work is done. I volunteered at the San Fernando Valley Obama Headquarters to do data entry. When I arrived there they were at full capacity for data entry volunteers but asked if I would do phone banking. I have to admit this is the one thing I have been totally avoiding. I spent some time in high school as a telemarketer and the experience was scarring to say the least. Also, I have family in PA who are being called nonstop and hate it, so I wasn't sure that this was really an effective tactic. Since I was already at headquarters though, I agreed. Much to my suprise, it wasn't that bad. There were a few people who were less than excited to get my call, but many were supportive. One gentleman from Wisconsin was not sure who he wanted to vote for. We talked for a half an hour and at the end he said he was now leaning toward Barack! I know this may not sound like much, but it felt extremely rewarding. If every one of the thousands of volunteers gets one person like this we will secure the White House for Obama! So I'm encouraging everyone to head down to their local headquarters tomorrow, Monday or Tuesday and volunteer to phone bank or whatever else they need. We've come so far and worked so hard - we can't slack off now! Below is the address and phone number for the SFV Headquarters. They are great people and I promise it is time well spent!

Valley Girls for Obama
So about a month ago my best friend Whitney and I formed "Valley Girls for Obama". We were tired of only talking to each other about the upcoming election and wanted to feel like we were actually doing something. We just held our first event this past Sunday, and honestly it was an amazing experience.
We set up a voter registration/information/Obama swag sale booth outside of the Trader Joe's in Toluca Lake. Due to warnings from the store management that the police would be called if anyone complained about us, we were unable to initiate conversation with passers by or ask them if they were registered. In spite of this (or perhaps because of it) we registered 53 voters throughout the day! We actually had to close down early because we ran out of forms!
The merchandise we were selling on behalf of the United Democratic Headquarters was a hit also. We had Obama bumper stickers, buttons, posters, yard signs and tshirts all of which sold quickly. About halfway through the day one of our rad volunteers, Wendy, drove from our event up to the HQ in Pasadena to get us more stuff to sell. We quickly ran out of that also. In total we raised $573.00! Not bad when you consider that most of our items only cost between $2.00 and $7.00.
We want to thank everyone who came out, and a special thank you to all of the volunteers! Over 25 people came throughout the day to help, and those who couldn't volunteer due to space still stopped by to support us, and one women even brought us coffee and cookies! I have to say it is really encouraging to be able to meet so many amazing people dedicated to Obama's campaign. We are so inspired by all of you and we are going to win in November!
On a fun side note, we had a visit from one of the stars of the "Valley Girls" movie (one of my all time favorite films BTW). Heidi Holicker, who played "Stacey" in the movie heard about our event and our group from a friend so she drove out to say hi. Fortunately for us she's an Obama supporter too! Go Barack!
Here is a link to some pictures of the event.

Please come visit us at our Toluca Lake Farmer's Market booth this Sunday Sept 21st!
Best,
This is definately information worth sharing with everyone you know who might be leaning toward McCain. His economic policies and the Republican ideology of deregulation led us directly to the problems which are now overwhelming our economy. No wonder he said the economy wasn't his strong suit. This post is from www.crooksandliars.com - my favorite liberal blog!
Campaign proxy can’t escape McCain’s responsibility for Wall St. meltdown

Boy is it nice to see the press actually do their job. Norah O’Donnell confronted RNC Communications Director Danny Diaz today with this quote from today’s Washington Post:

[In 1999] McCain had joined with other Republicans to push through landmark legislation sponsored by then-Sen. Phil Gramm (Tex.), who is now an economic adviser to his campaign. The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act aimed to make the country’s financial institutions competitive by removing the Depression-era walls between banking, investment and insurance companies. That bill allowed AIG to participate in the gold rush of a rapidly expanding global banking and investment market. But the legislation also helped pave the way for companies such as AIG and Lehman Brothers to become behemoths laden with bad loans and investments.

That bill allowed AIG to participate in the gold rush of a rapidly expanding global banking and investment market. But the legislation also helped pave the way for companies such as AIG and Lehman Brothers to become behemoths laden with bad loans and investments.
In other words, McCain, along with Phil Gramm — you know, the guy who thinks the recession is all “mental” – passed legislation that is directly responsible for the gargantuan mess we now find ourselves in. Is that the kind of “experience” we really need in the White House?
And Diaz’ response? None of that matters. What matters is that McCain talked about Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac a few years ago. And what about that Barack Obama guy? He’s hasn’t been Washington long enough to screw things up like McCain has!
This is really what it comes down to: A guy with a quarter century of “experience” passing legislation that ruins the economy versus someone who offers a fundamentally different approach to solving the mess the other guy made. Easy choice if you ask me. It’s unfair to say John McCain doesn’t understand the economy because he certainly understands how to destroy it.
John Amato; And let’s not forget this one: Despite Claims Today He Warned of this Crisis, McCain in 2007 Said He Didn’t See This Crisis Coming

I have to admit I was a little nervous last night before Obama's speech at the DNC. I knew many people (myself included) had extremely high expectations, and when expectations are high so is the chance for disappointment. Barack lived up to, and exceeded, all of my expectations. I was blown away, inspired and even more determined that he has to win the election in November. He expertly shot down every criticism currently being used by Republican, outlined in detail what "change" really means and how it will be paid for while delivering one of the most uplifting, impassioned speeches I've ever heard.
This is the thing about Obama......he makes you believe. I'm known for being overly cynical and I was raised o have a healthy suspicion of both politicians and government in general. But when Obama speaks I believe him. I believe he truly wants to make this country better, that his policies are sincere and not a political ploy to appease one particular voting block or another and that he will lead the country with the highest level of integrity. I want him to be president not just to end Republican rule of the White House or simply because he's the liberal candidate. I want him to be president because I believe that he is by far the best person to lead the United States. Last night's speech proved his ability both to inspire and to lead. I can't wait until he is sworn in as our next president.
