President Obama inspires me and as I sat in front of the TV on election night, with tears running down my face, I felt so proud to have been apart of and participated in such a historic event. In listening to him, I noticed that this is not a man boasting about his accomplishments, but of one who knows that he has a lot of work to do and that his presidency will not be an easy one. The problems of this country will not be easily solved and the broken relationship around this world will not be mended over night.
We all should be proud and should be energized to do and to be a better people. We have got to hold ourselves and each other accountable to strive for higher goals and bigger expectations of ourselves and our children. Throughout Obama’s campaign he has always said that we as a people and a community have to be held accountable and responsible for our actions and our own families. President Obama can work to get our economy straight, get the health care system working for us and to keep us safe; but what he can not do, is raise our children and be fathers to so many of the children that don’t even know who their fathers are. We all have got to do our part to make our families, our communities, our schools and this country better. I only hope that seeing Mr. Obama holding the highest office in this country, will be encouragement and inspiration for so many to do more and to be more than they ever thought possible. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” Phil 4:13
We all must pray for direction on what we can do to better our lives and our communities, we must pray for the Obama’s and we must also pray for this country to come together in unity, love and in peace!!! America CAN change......and IS changing. I know racism is still real in this country, but I believe faith, love, respect, tolerance and understanding can overcome the hatred of those still stuck in the Jim Crow era. I believe Mr. Obama has showed us that skin color really doesn’t matter. Race relations can and I believe will get worst before they get better, but the over whelming response from African-American, Latino’s and White people alike is the example that people are changing, that Dr. King’s dream is coming true and that we can make this a better country and a real “United” States of America. “What is impossible for people is possible with God.” Luke 18:27
I am so proud of the way Obama has conducted his campaign and family; and I am so glad they gave America a better image of the black family; Barack and Michelle are both such beautiful people and a beautiful couple with humble spirits. Seeing how President Obama has ran his campaign with dignity; promoting faith, hope, love and unity.....is the example of how we all should live our lives. “Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love.” 1 Corinthians 13:13
We came together and we did it.....who would have thought.....a black man in the white house??? Not cleaning it, but living in it and running the most powerful country in the world!!! I am truly proud of my people and proud to be apart of making history. But we can not stop now....we all have got get to work and make racism and sexism a thing of the past!!! I hope and pray that we will continue making history and that in my lifetime, I will also see a women achieve the highest office in this country......aint no stopping us now!!!
I know all of us are afraid for Obama’s life and his safety of their family, but we can’t focus on that; just continue to pray for them, put it in God’s hands and he will work it out. “For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” 2 Tim 1:7
Be blessed, Quiana
