Is "tough" a qualifying attribute?

Tough?”

What does it mean to be tough?

“practical, realistic, and lacking in sentimentality; tough-minded”
also; “not brittle or tender”

Is this enough?
Is this what we want from a leader?
…someone who works with less grace and meter.
I say…a little heart inserted to thought and practicality
provides decisions and a solution
that can move a revolution.
With mankind in mind,
tools work with flexibility,
good not just for today,
but tomorrow as well;
leaving room for adjustments,
less redundancy – more zeal,
giving rise to answers
that are real.
Utilizing the best that mankind
can provide…
heart, soul, thought, flexibility;
working for the betterment
of all
so we may not fall.

Toughness without the special insertion
of humanity
may produce a measure of insanity,
that in the end will not
build progress,
but rather regress
to a time of chaos, remiss,

Words--What is the Problem with that?

I've been quiet for a while. I decided to be quiet about my disappointment with the American public. My findings during my tenure in Human Resources gave me insight to this pervasive problem. The problem is that sometimes even "smart people" find comfort in being stupid and choose to "attack smart" as the possible ominous enemy. I see this problem hasn't gone away but has only become worse. Yet everyone wants to send their children to college--only to be slapped down if they don't join the masses of "anti-intellect".

Passionate, wonderful Barack can't change the world all at once so he has to shrink a little in order to not scare the masses away. And now everyone is wondering--what has happened to him? I'll tell you what I think---he is doing this with purpose because it is the only way he can win. Actually it is brilliant, yet probably personally painful to him. I know. I've been through it but thought I could win by changing hearts and minds all at once. The only thing that does is to give call to the lynch mob. The pathetic part is if hearts and minds don't change; America does not have a chance for survival. That is why we need Barack. When he is elected he is the only one that has the capacity and the drive to open the hearts and minds that have been closed for so long.

As usual I have been inspired to ease my pain through poetry.

Words, Intelligence, Decisions, Actions…

Dictionary definitions:
Words - a principal carrier of meaning.
Intelligence - capacity for learning, reasoning, understanding,
aptitude in grasping truths, relationships, facts, meanings, etc.
Decisions - The act of reaching a conclusion or making up one's mind.
Actions - an act that one consciously wills and that may be characterized by physical or mental activity…something done or performed; act; deed

The era of 2008 in America…
I keep hearing,
Who do you think you are…
to those that appear to represent
perceived intelligence.
It seems to make people wince;
this sign of brain activity
that makes people fear
“you are not one of us”.
I say, what is all the fuss?
Are you telling me,
it’s smart to be stupid?
Tell me what I don’t see.

The capacity for learning, reasoning, understanding,
aptitude in grasping truths, relationships, facts, meanings...
is of utmost importance;
certainly will affect one’s leanings,
although must include
responsibility for consequence;
this is certainly of significance.

Now we must ask ourselves, as well,
are words nicely put together
just mere window dressing, pleasant to the ear,
or a reason to fear?

Are words in themselves a highly
important factor to bring
maximum results?
My answer is – YES
They deliver the meaning.
If done effectively;
this is your best hope for
effective results;
although formulated without intelligence
will not bring answers more,
furthermore;
intelligence without LEARNING
will not fill the message
with the yearning
that we are looking for.

Another wards the package must include
Meaning, Learning, Conclusion, Perform
for intelligence to count
arriving to us in the correct form.

So my advice is not to fear intelligence
just because it does appear.
Although don’t give credit
just because it is here.
The primary lesson is to never resist
one’s capacity for learning;
this we must insist.

Gender Power--What does that mean?

September 1950---I was born
Moms were home---politically correct thing to do--let the men coming back from war have the jobs and start their families and become consumers of products that came out of WWII technology--appliances, later--plastics, etc.
One job--One home--One car--One family

1968-1972
My college years
Civil rights--Women's liberation--Free speech
became the language of the time
Adults were totally resistent.

1990's
The height of my HR career
Complete boom in professional and technology employment
Women were welcomed--they were well entrenched into the ranks of leadership. Something happened on the way up. They became mean, ugly and feared by both men and women, and we let them.

My opinion--women in big numbers misused the freedom to excel. That was a big mistake and we all need to recognize it or this generation of "Mean Women" will ruin the freedom for future generations of women. We have finally learned that the "good ole' boys" were counter-productive to our success. I'm from Detroit and used to place engineers with the Big 3. Now we know going to strip clubs on your lunch and drinking with clients till you are dizzy--making contracts based on freebies has a negative affect--and was a big contributor to the Industry going down and certainly doesn't energize people to think and compete in a fast moving, global economy. I worked for an Internet Technology firm in the late 90's and we let the engineers from India and China do all the work while the others basked in their glory of being technical cool guys. I hired brilliant American gurus and nobody used them and if they opened their mouths--they were crushed. Everyone wanted to hang on to their own comfort zones. We are all paying a price now.

So if women want to take credit for their contributions they have to become energizers, contributors, and thinkers. There is no excuse to follow the "man bullies" of the past that already broke the system. Hillary proudly represents the women of today--grabbing her right to be a bully and break the system. We cannot tolerate the system being broken twice when we finally have learned our lessons and we're ready to do the right thing. "Girl Power" is not neccessary. Girls have the power--now use it correctly and let's all join hands for a better America and a better world!

I'm not going to converse with Hillary and McCain Bullies--No More!

I spent many years in Human Resources and was very good at intuitive and well researched decisions based on facts, behavior, references, etc. This did not mean that people didn't change or for that matter -stand still when they should have changed--or may have responded to their current situation differently that in the past because of whatever variables were affecting them. For heaven sakes--think of yourselves and your own changes and your own behavior in different situations--sometimes you're proud and sometimes you are not so proud. It's called LIFE and we're HUMAN. These kind of conversations on any side of the coin are worthless and STUPID. In a day and age where our progress in society is based more on HOW we do things rather than WHAT we do----this type of bantering is archaic and a waste of time. I, for one, am tired of people getting in my face and encouraging this banter only to cut me off and respond with negative slander and on and on. I'm not going to set myself up for it anymore.

We need to determine the candidate for America based on their process of thinking rather than reiterating memorized votes, actions, history, etc. The main question is to the candidates now is---what are you going to do for me now? This is the way I see it. You make up your own analysis.

In their own words....

Hillary----She'll fight, she'll ibliterate, she'll get you everyting you ask for (and be careful what you ask for). (She offers prizes like she is running for class president and she is promising --No more homework and no school on Fridays.)

Barack---He'll believe in YOU, he'll make careful judgements, he'll inspire hope and lead us there the best he can.

John---He'll stay the course, he'll not increase taxes, he'll continue to use the open-ended foreign loans that tie us to the huge powers that we're most afraid of (China and Middle East) (40% of the war is financed from loans from those countries) in order to keep America SAFE.

As far as I'm concerned I no longer will get caught in the stupid shell game of camparing laundry lists that are meaningless and outdated at this time and not a valid criteria for smart decisions to determine the validity of any of the candidates.

I will not memorize, report, recall, pontificate on any of this nonsence---because it is not the point!

It's as bad as learning history lessons by memorizing dates of battles in wars---SO WHAT! That is why our educational system has to change and the way we think as clear thinking adults has to change so that we can find HOPE in the future!

So I ask you now--what do you think?

Diversity---Freedom

There has been lots of talk about race-baiting, racial oppression vs. sexism, etc. It's getting to me. This was bound to happen with the new steps we're taking---old garbage is backing up. I spent many years in Human Resources. Discrimination, persecution, and oppression come in many flavors. That includes, color, religion, and any individual thoughts, actions, or beliefs that do not fit with the generic norm. It includes creativity, intelligence, enthusiasm, on and on. Americans have to to appreciate mankind for all its beauty instead of holding on to the "ugly" for the protection of the status quo. If we --all of us--do not change we will lose our freedom all together. Because with the attitude that prevails---and people keep shooting the messenger--like they are doing with Barack and all that want a better world----there will be no freedom. As it is --it is seeping away and very few even realize it.

A New Tomorrow

I get tired of hearing how everything is going to get better in 4 short sentences-
1-More Jobs 2-No more poverty 3-no more outsourcing 4-no more war

Obama is the only one that actually has presented result driven proposals. The others have no idea how to make this happen and never will. They are only good for lip service. It's not an easy fix. It will not be achieved by reaching back to old times. We must look at old times to give us perspective on where we came from and how to proceed to go forward with utilizing today's and tomorrow's resources and most of all to learn that inserting humanity into the formula will always be important---and that is why we look back--so we don't forget yesterday's lessons. The important thing to remember is we have to create future solutions with inserting resources and variables that account for today and tomorrow. That is how we will get better and remain a world power. This video spells it all out.

I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!

Enough of this anti-intellect movement--that's how we got George Bush--and enough of the notion that it's better to be stupid than smart and the mob actions to attack the smart--hurt them--and then say see--it is smarter to be stupid.

Well I'm mad and I'm not going to take it anymore. I am standing for intelligence in Chicago at Daley Square at 12:00 Saturday. I am even more stoked to do this movement proud for Obama!

After a career in Human Resources in Corporate America -I see a parallel to the politics of today. We hire people because they are smart and then we chastise them if they dare to use their brains for the better good. After all IDEAS take people out of their comfort zone. IDEAS cost money and money means risk. IDEAS mean efficiency and that means a redistribution of labor. IDEAS mean credit and credit means jealousy. A bad seed spreads this notion and before you know it MOB MENTALITY kicks in and either you are scared-stupid, or you temper your ideas to suit the mentality of the group, or you stand proud and go forward and then watch out--SUCCESS will bring you down. You will be kicked around, shunned, ostracized and possibly lynched. The worse injustice is sometimes after you leave they use your idea anyway---without you. The silly thing is they don't have the attitude or insight to make it work--and we all lose.

So next time someone talks about outsourcing-- realize that we all have some ownership in this phenomena and Barack's call for our enlistment to help him and help ourselves is more meaningful than what we read on the surface. It sounds simple but it is a brilliant concept that Barack has come up with--look at us now!!! We truly hold the power within us and that scares the un-doers because we are the DOERS. We can win as our numbers grow and our power is energized not only by the mere numbers but by the spirit we generate with our connection to each other's souls. No matter how many hop on the on-doer bandwagon they still have no spirit to connect to because they move with empty souls.

*Okay -another poem--I can't help myself.

Are you ready to hear the truth?
Speak the truth?
Live the truth?

It's not the easy path.
You most likely will suffer the rath
of those that want to stay still
live by the strength of their own will.
They will resent your vision, your mission,
Your brilliance,
Your resilience,
For they have none.
Their truth is a false truth.

The path for false truth
works to keep intelligence in check,
propagates safety, comfort and security
by holding the world still
with the might of sheer will;
which in turn locks the door to progress
and prohibits a superior life for all.
We need to open our eyes
and answer our call
We must earn the big prize....

From Bitter to Better

The point of the poem I am presenting here is to get us energized for what is to come. Barack's goodness can only come to fruition if we all work together. The great part is he does want to work together. We're like a family. Do we want to be parented by being totally taken care of and told what is right for us and that's the way it is---or do we want to have input so the end product is what serves all of us best?

I, too, have had a bad couple of years. I won't bore you with all of the details. I know what it is like to be broken. My career was in HR so I saw this crisis coming and have seen up close many broken people --no fault of their own--had the rug pulled out from under them. There are things that can be done by political leaders but it includes us doing our part too. Nothing is forever anymore. We have to prepare and live our lives accordingly and we need the government to realize that reality also--because we are living it whether we like it or not. If they ignore it--what good does that do? The fixes politicians implement have to take this into consideration. The Republicans in particular like to drum up magical formulas and create quick fixes. That doesn't work in today's world.

After the "bitter" fiasco it seems that some people are emphasizing a little too emphatically that Barack will fix everything. That is not his message. His message is that he will open the door for us to work on this together.

From Bitter to Better

When we’re feeling down
and oh so bitter,
discovering our lives are in a twitter,
working harder than before;
We wonder –can we take much more?

Barack Obama
has something to say,
Let’s take the reigns--
all of us.
Let’s turn hope
into happiness.

If we put together plans
that work for all of us,
rather than just a few,

present themselves
with a better view.
So decide for yourself

Maybe for the first time in history those that want to throw stones and use hate and mis-trust as their rite of passage; as their strongest tool of communication; as their way to belong to something; as their "easy way out" of true thinking; as a mask to hide behind; as a method to cure their own ills; as a curtain to hide behind --will be left in the dust---while the rest of us who want to believe---will find there really is no place like home. So put on your ruby slippers and click your heels together and believe in your fellow man; believe in yourself; know that it is true that we can live in a better world---because Barack's wise words have led us to realize that the truth is --it was always up to us--we just didn't realize until he told us to believe in ourselves. 21st Century
Now

People refer to the 1990’s as a time of plenty
A time of success
Okay to live in excess
A time to scratch each other’s backs
The notion that participation in new technology
inferred; all knowing, value growing, importance showing.
Investors were fast to jump on the opportunity train.
Quickly, briskly giving faith to the unknown, the unsown
Hopeful that their seeds would propagate the next big thing
Chi-ching
Desiring prosperity to ring!

The outgrowth of this chaotic rushing for a magnificent result
in fact led professionals to leap forward without fully thinking through
to dismiss the need for homework
squelch the search for a potential quirk
shoot ahead to a solution
claiming a revolution
accepting failure
throw it away
start all over
and call it another successful day.

In fact technology did grow up.
Although along the way the idea of moving
before thinking,
taking responsibility without accountability,
discounting the need to find proof,
creating a society that applauds the aloof
has given a causal nexus
of excess.
Educated people with nowhere to go.
Companies dropping off staff
as if this is done without wrath
has led us to a rocky path.
Producing increasing problems
like ripples in a pond,
crushing this life
that we have grown so fond.

Our despair in the 21st century
has led us to the false notion
that these problems were not caused by “me”.
We succumbed to a leader that fed off
our despair,
convincing us to follow his methodology
of punishment, blaming others, lashing out
a reason to shout…
No it’s not “me” it’s “you”.
Displacing our direction
causing this large infection
that we now have no choice but to realize
that we did not fix our mistake.
Blaming others only worsened the bruise
causing contamination
for heaven sake.

Now…
The answer is really quite simple
It is time to say yes to “me”
It is time to admit accountability.
Through all this strife
we have grown and matured in our life.
It is time for a leader that advocates thinking

Inspiration

Sometimes it takes a while to recognize that someone has a special ability to get us to believe in ourselves, to tie that belief to our highest ideals and imagine that together we can do great things....
We have that kind of opportunity with Senator Obama.

I want a president who understands that his responsibility is to articulate a vision and encourage others to achieve it; who holds himself, and those around him, to the highest ethical standards; who appeals to the hopes of those who still believe in the American Dream, and those around the world who still believe in the American ideal; and who can lift our spirits, and make us believe again that our country needs every one of us to get involved.

Facts on Hillary's Anti-semitism Attack

Hillary Clinton sought the support of the Independence Party of New York for cross-endorsement of her Senate campaign in 2000. She also sought a guarantee from party leaders that she would not have to compete for the support of independents in a primary against then opponent Mayor Rudy Giuliani. Failing to extract such a "no primary" promise, the former First Lady abruptly changed her tune and began attacking the party. She accused Elenor Fulani (one of the founders) that she had anti-semitic sentiments and worked on booting her out of the party.

Keep in mind Fulani and the New York Independent Party are very pro Obama. The principles of the party are built on tolerance of all peoples and working toward inclusiveness and change in America. I am still doing further research on this and will post an update. There is a quote that is negative on the part of Fuloni--but I want to find out if that was out of context or whatever. It is just so contrary to Fuloni's work. Nonetheless--it was definetely a personal vendetta on the part of Hillary. It looks like she was up to the same antics with Barack.

The morning news...

I always watch the Sunday morning news programs. It was disturbing this morning to see how all the good out there gets twisted and we have to be subjected to the airing of anger and nay saying. I won't repeat it--you all know what I'm talking about. I get upset right down to my gut and the only way I can deal with it is to watch the video--Yes I Can--once again and to write another poem.

On a personal note…

As I imagine most of are feeling
This election process 2008
has become personal.
Is that wrong?
Or is that how it should be?

We have come to a point in our lives
where we are believing the patriotism
we have always been told to realize.
Barack has opened our own hearts
to feel
with every breath we take
for real.
Freedom is beginning to crystallize.
Our thoughts are not empty.
Our thoughts are wise.
Do not be fooled

Someone should tell Hillary--Stop saying Age is all you got--you're killing yourself

The great thing about Barack is he is talking to all of us. We need to stop making our own barricades. Age is one of the biggest barricades we put up--and we do it to ourselves. Barack is trying to tell us--it doesn't have to be so. That is what I love about young people today. They seem more open to thoughts instead of false representations. When mature people talk about--those kids--or how it used to be--or been there done that...and that's the end of it---they are shutting the door. Not to say all young are open---but it's starting to happen--let's keep it going and show each other respect and all will grow. Here is a poem I wrote last year. Hillary seems to want us to respect her for her age, earned or not. That won't work. It's a new age! Go Obama!

Do We Get Better With Time?

Life provides inspiration;
inspiration provides life.
Years pass by.
Retrospect is ingenious
when analyzed with eyes wide open,
combining "what you knew" with "what you know",
altogether making it so.

This revelation only has power
when thoughts are infused with scents of flowers.
Revelations filled with clouds and static
render thoughts acrobatic,
flipping them back to "what you knew",
remiss in the challenging of "what you know".

Therefore maturity and time
does not automatically earn you
intelligence, knowledgeable acclaim,
honor, exaltation and fame.
Rather the responsibility to temper past with future
is the key to richness in thought;
otherwise contributions will be fraught
when "what you know" becomes static and slow
void of elasticity to soar
forevermore.

Maximize the gift of accumulated time.
Savor the magic of retrospect, perspective, and change.
Bravely walk the walk of metamorphosis, rebirth,
transformation, adaptation.
Realize that time moves forward.
Finally you perceive, grasp and understand.
Make no illusion -you can now admit
we are all in confusion.

Progressives look forward / Traditionalists look back

Like the Good Ole’ Days or a Hopeful Tomorrow?

America…
Once an agricultural society
Then industrial revolution
Move to the city
Work too hard
Pay too little
Conditions a pity.

Then grew the unions
A voice for the workers
Conditions improved
Pay provided a living
Age of consumerism
Grew a land of giving.

Good working people
Took care of their families
Developed a path
Fostered improvement in life
Children moved onward to college
A road paved with glory
Halt…a disturbing alert…
work, jobs, pay, a home, a future…
no longer is anything for sure.
We must not be demure
Proactive advancements
are the only cure.

Barack Obama has arrived
Just in time
With readiness forward
Together we will be heightened
growing curiosity
with ferocity
for America enlightened!
