I don't know what the GLBT community wants right now from Barack. People always agree with candidates when they say what they are going to do in campaigns. But, when candidates get elected and actually carry out their promises, and those promises threaten a special interest group. then all hell breaks loose. I guess the next step is for them to protest the inauguration. Some of the people who have posted on these blogs actually say they are going to campaign against Barack's agenda and move their allegiance to the Republican Party. Others have said that Barack is a bigot like the late Sen Richard Russell, the late segregationist senator from GA. I guess the next step is to call Barack the anti-Christ. If Barack can extend a symbolic olive branch to a representative from the religious right, and still carry out the necessary legislative actions to fight for gay rights in America without also trampling on his own beliefs concerning the definition of marriage, then gay people should be willing to wait and see if the promises are kept. After all, Barack did not nominate a person from the religious right to serve in his cabinet where real damage can be done to gays in America.
