One thing we all need to remember is to NOT let the RR try AGAIN to inject this political season with its own brand on religiosity! The ONLY thing any candidate/President should publicly follow is the Constitution; and the Constitution does NOT has a religion test! That said, I would like to AGAIN point out a "talking point" for us Obama supporters. HRC's campaign already tried the "Obama is a Muslim" angle more than once; and Romney actually called Senator Obama "Osama" THREE TIMES in one speech! Fox tried it before; and probably will again!
Senator Obama is a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago IL. The United Church of Christ grew from the Congregational Church which has been a Prostestant denomination in America for CENTURIES; in fact, no less than both John Adams and John Quincy Adams were members of the Congregational Church! So, won't it be wonderful to have another President who is from that denomination--even though we're not electing him for that?!?! BTW, John Quincy Adams was the lawyer who defended the Africans who mutinied the slave ship "Amistad" after they (the Africans) had been stolen from their homeland to be brought to America to be sold into slavery. John Quincy Adams was their defense attorney and the Congregational Church paid their legal expenses. The Congregational Church, now the United Church of Christ, has historically been for the poor of spirit, disenfranchised, etc.; and has ALWAYS been open and understanding and tolerant of ALL faiths, ALL peoples (including gays), ALL ages; all EVERYONE!! Is it any wonder Senator Obama is a member of that denomination?
BTW, I am an English teacher and history buff--AND my home church is also of the United Church of Christ and I am PROUD that our next president is too! But I am equally adamant that one's religion (or non-religion!) is a PRIVATE matter, and although this country may have been founded on Judeo-Christian "principles", it is NOT a Christian nation and we must NOT allow America to become a theocracy!! Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, Benjamin Franklin, and most of the "Founding Fathers" did NOT belong to any organized religion and did NOT want religion trumping politics or even being a part of politics--hence separation of Church and State!
I just want Obama supporters to have the REAL answer to the "Muslim attack" scam. Not only is Senator Obama NOT a Muslim; not all (or even most) Muslims are terrorists--no more than all Irish-Americans are terrorists because of Timothy McVey!!
With that, I'll say "Happy Holidays" to EVERYONE...this season includes everything from Thanksgiving to New Year's...not just Christmas! (Jesus was born in the Spring, anyway...but I digress!!)
