A little more than 9 minutes into this show is a piece on Karl Rove and 'Papabear' O'Reilly, as well as three others. First Rove talks about how qualified Palin is via talking points because she is the governor of Alaska. Of course, the Daily Show then shows a clip from a few months ago when Rove eviscerated Virginia Governor Tim Kaine by saying his choice as VP would be proof that Democrats are "not concerned first and foremost with if this person is capable of being president of the United States" because he's been the governor of a state for only 3 years and former mayor of just the 105th largest city in the USA, a city that's smaller than Henderson, NV (and he named a bunch of other cities).
In contrast, Sarah Palin is the former mayor of a town smaller than many high schools and governor for less than two years of the least populated state in the union, with the next least populated state, Wyoming, having more than 4 times the population of Alaska.
Next up is 'Papabear' O'Reilly, explaining how teenage pregnancy is "a personal, private family matter" and nothing that should be judged "as long as the family supports the decision," and he hopes things calm down because this isn't something the public should be sticking their nose into. Then, in contrast, is a clip of O'Reilly ripping up the Spears family. "Here the blame falls primarily on the parents of the girl who obviously have little control over her." This is accompanied by a photo of the Spears parents with the word "PINHEADS" emblazoned below it.
Sarah Palin has dragged her pregnant daughter onto the campaign trail and placed her front and center in every photo op. But the press is not supposed to comment on the fact (that the Republicans themselves ANNOUNCED) that their abstinence-touting candidate has a teenage daughter who is 5 months pregnant? Do I personally care that this girl is pregnant? No. It's not my business, and it should be a family matter...that was kept in Alaska vs. paraded across the national stage. Gee, the word "Pinheads" springs to mind once more.
Next up are Sean Hannity and Dick Morris, talking about the 'sexist' way the media is treating Sarah Palin because of the baby issue. And, yes, they then show Dick Morris ripping up Hillary Clinton for complaining that media coverage was sexist and asking what's going to happen when the boys in the Middle East get tough, etc., and how "This is always what Hillary does when she comes under fire; she retreats behind the apron strings."
And then last is McCain Sr. Policy Advisor Nancy Pfotenhauer in a clip from last November warning Hillary not to play the sexist victim card because that's just not what we want in a president. Yep, then she goes on to whine about how Palin has been victimized because she's a woman, and how it's the most outrageous double standard she's ever seen.
Republicans, you can't have it both ways. I really wish these side-by-side clips could be shown to every voter in the US to prove how the Republicans are trying to manipulate the media to take the focus off the real issues with their exceedingly weak VP choice, how she is just more of the McSame. These clips would make a wonderful political ad. Please. Get it out there!
To me, it seems clear their choice was to round up the Hillary supporters. Do they really think the Hillary supporters will vote for McCain/Palin, simply because he chose a woman running mate? This is a woman so far from Hillary Clinton's ideals and values that I can't believe anyone in their right mind would think that strategy would work.
President Bush also said that the Hanoi Hilton could not break McCain and the "angry left" will not break McCain, either. How dare my president call (at least) half of the US population the "angry left." How foolish of the Republicans to focus on the whiner card when the issues I want to hear about are the economy, the war, and the energy crisis. This is all the proof I need that they are so far out of touch that they have no idea that the general population is mad as hell at their "make the rich richer, and good luck to everyone else" plan, and we're not going to take it anymore.
The Republicans are master panderers. I cringe when I think about how many average Americans are going to buy into their skillfully crafted marketing machine. If John McCain is elected, he will be our oldest president, ever. The last time this happened, Regan began to show signs of Alzheimers before he even left office. There is a better than average chance that 4-time cancer survivor McCain will die in office. I could have lived with McCain as president, but I shudder at the thought of a far-right former mayor of a town with a population of less than 10,000 being in charge of our country.
We cannot let this happen.
Okay, this is getting ridiculous. The price was "approaching" $100 / barrel a few weeks ago. It's gone up 20% within WEEKS. My son is already spending 1/3 of his paycheck on gas just to get to his job. We haven't yet seen the entire impact of the trickle down effect into all other segments of our economy that gas prices effect...which is just about everything. How on earth are people who make "average" salaries going to pay their bills???
This is how we begin the elimination of the middle class. Oil prices. And I find that I am just about beside myself, KNOWING the oil companies will have another record KABILLION dollars in profits this year. WHAT IS WRONG WITH OUR GOVERNMENT????? DOOOOO SOMETHIIIING!!!!!
I guess no one is home in Washington. It's time for CHANGE!!!!!!!!!!!! NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know everyone expected it, but I still can't believe PA voters were duped into voting for more of the same. They must really like what's happening to our economy right now, because Hillary is the kind of politician who will not CHANGE much of anything!
Obama cannot get into office soon enough! I hope there's a country left to run by the time he gets there.
If you haven't yet, please read this article...and try to stay calm: Obama Could Get 'Swift Boated' http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/Story?id=4688386&page=1
Here's the 1st paragraph, to give you an idea of what it's about:
Rick Sloan says he doesn't want to see the Democrats get "Swift Boated" again this time. So the communications director for the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers has sent a couple of dozen friends -- union leaders and Democratic activists, mainly -- an urgent plea to pay attention to Sen. Barack Obama's connections with the 1960s anti-war group, the Weather Underground, and other leftist thinkers.
If you are as curious as I am about Bill Clinton's activities in consulting jobs that deal with foreign governments and money his charity has received from sources that might be trying to buy influence from a sitting president, please write your local newspaper or email your favorite web news outlet and ask them to investigate / report on these connections. I would be especially interested to know how many connections Mark Penn and Bill Clinton have with people, organizations, and / or governments who appear on Homeland Security lists.
It would also be nice to hear more about the differing stances on NAFTA from Mark Penn, Bill Clinton, and Hillary Clinton.
I believe these issues are much more important in this campaign than the mud Hillary is throwing, but every time the media has something interesting to ask Hillary, she points at the sky and starts screaming that it's falling. Amazing that the media keeps falling for this tired old ploy time after time after time. Let's try to get them refocused.
Below is part of my response to another Obama supporter’s hints about how McCain could be attacked on a personal level. I think it’s good for all of us to keep in mind our candidate’s views on negative campaigning as well as the type of person he is running against in McCain where negative campaigning is, in my opinion, the worst possible strategy:
What we cannot forget is that John McCain is a bona fide war hero, perhaps the most well-known and best-respected American war hero alive today. Couple that with the fact that his family is a Douglas MacArthur-type case study in what makes this country great•generations of leaders steeped in Duty, Honor, Country•and I believe history will mark John Sidney McCain III a great and admirable man. However, this does NOT make him the best-qualified candidate for the presidency, or the man with the right plan to turn around what is wrong in this country, or even the right man for this era.
Against McCain, my personal opinion is that a winning campaign strategy is to steer clear of personal attacks and focus on differences in specific issues. (Gee, isn’t this our candidate’s modus operandi?) However, that does not mean anyone should ignore the facts. McCain’s very strengths are also his weaknesses. He and his family are so extraordinary that how can he relate to the average person and the average person’s problems, and, conversely, how can average people relate themselves to him? And should we trust him to conclude this war because he is steeped in the military strategies and traditions of a bygone era? He is yesterday’s warrior; no less admirable, but no longer effective. And then there are all of his Republican-style plans for the major issues of the campaign that I view as downright wrong-headed.
There are lots of ways to beat McCain, but no one will win against him with Clinton-style mud-slinging. It’s like spitting on the flag.
Of course, those are just my opinions. I’ve been known to be wrong on a few rare occasions. :)
Dems, do you really want another 4 years of a Republican Whitehouse? The two candidates are not that far apart on the ISSUES. God forbid this race would be about ISSUES rather than character assasination -- from both camps. Clinton supporters feel maligned and picked upon? Welcome to the club. They feel Obama should drop out of the race? While he's winning? Get real. They're mad that people want Hillary to drop out of the race while she's still winning states? I agree, let her stay in until November, if she wants. Just STOP THE CHARACTER ASSASINATIONS. BOTH candidates now need to focus on John McCain and pretend the other guy doesn't exist. Each candidate needs to tell us why THEY are the best person for the job, and NOT why we should hate the other guy. We are on the SAME TEAM. We just have to decide who is our starting quarterback. If the campaigns keep kneecapping each other, we WILL end up with a President McCain.STOP. THE. CHARACTER. ATTACKS.
Online, so many Clinton supporters complain about Obama throwing mud at Hillary. It just blows my mind that they think it was Obama who turned this campaign negative. Here is a way to help prove Clinton is the Mudslinging Sluggo...
Well, it's official. Myself and 14 other people from my district will be delegates at our State DFL Convention in June. (WOO-HOO!!) I'm told about 100 people usually showed up in the past for the District 14 convention and it lasted about 3 hours. Today, 319 caucus delegates attended and it lasted from 8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. with no lunch break (!) and only one 5 minute bathroom break.
What I found interesting is that we were charged to break up into sub-caucuses that each represented a cause and candidate. There were many sub-caucuses that stated they were for a Senate or Congressional candidate and cause, and about 3 that were for Obama and a Senate or Congressional candidate. There were ZERO sub-caucuses that listed Clinton alone or with another candidate. I know for a fact that Clinton carried my township on Super Tuesday. So, I can't say what her lack of representation at our convention means, but surely it can't be a bad thing.
In addition to being a State Delegate, I'm a District Director, and I was also nominated and then selected to be on the State Central Committee, a group that helps develop policy for the entire State DFL Party. Oh, and I'm going to be an Election Judge, and I filled out another card to volunteer with the group that wants to get more Democratic delegates for Minnesota. I'm beginning to think I've volunteered myself into a full-time job, but I'm willing to do whatever it takes and whatever I can to get Mr. Obama on the ballot and elected.
I am 49 years old and have NEVER gotten involved in politics before this election. The only reason I got involved this time is because this election is too important to sit on the sidelines, and the people here on barackobama.com told me HOW to get involved in my local Party. I was a complete novice going into today's convention, and am still not 100% sure of my 'job descriptions' for the posts I won and/or volunteered for today. However, I'm very excited to be a part of the process and look forward to contributing my time and whatever talents the Party finds useful to make certain Mr. Obama wins in November. For any other newbies out there -- don't be afraid to ask questions at meetings and conventions. All of the "old hands" who attended my convention were very helpful, even if there were a few who grumbled about all the new folks jumping on the bandwagon (hey, they were new once, too).
Mr. Obama asked me to believe. Not just in his ability to bring about real change in Washington...he asked me to believe in my ability to bring about change. I feel like I've taken the first step toward living up to my end of the bargain. YES, WE CAN.
Mrs. Clinton says she would have left an institution, supposedly because the institution's leader said or did something the American people disagreed with. Ohhhhhh, Reeaaaaaallllyyyyy?!!
Last I heard, she is still in the institution of marriage with a man who lied to and cheated on her for far MORE than 20 years. A man who was disbarred and impeached while he was PRESIDENT for lying to the American people.
Stop throwing those rocks in your glass house, Hillary.
IT'S THE ECONOMY.
No one can afford healthcare. No one can afford their mortgages. No one can afford to put gas in their cars. Good jobs are harder and harder to find, or are being shipped overseas. Everyone is working more and more for less and less.
Who did not see a Recession coming? Apparently, everyone in Washington and those in charge of our news casts.
Every major political issue involves the economy, to some extent.
The war? We can't afford it; it's sucking the life (in some cases, literally) out of the newest generation of our workforce and costing TEN TIMES more than the initial estimates with no end in sight. I seriously think we will be money and lives ahead to pull out and cut our losses NOW. Put those troops on the front lines in AMERICA. It's hateful to say, but I no longer care about Iraqi's and their freedom, and cannot understand why it was our business in the first place.
Healthcare? How about sinking some of those BILLIONS we're giving to Halliburton and other war profiteers into a major overhaul of our healthcare system? One that doesn't create a monopoly for the "non-profit" healthcare companies that are already sucking up huge tax benefits while their CEOs collect, in Blue Cross / Blue Shield's example, $20 million dollar per year salaries? FOR-PROFIT HEALTHCARE IS NOT WORKING OUT FOR THE POPULATION. It's only benefitting the top executives and lobbyists for the healthcare industry. ENOUGH ALREADY.
Mortgage / Real Estate crisis? So, the boys on Wall Street got greedy along with the rich Americans who speculate in companies like Bear Stearns? Give the high-risk folks loans they will never be able to repay, and if they default, we'll just repossess their valuable real estate and be fine even though it will make those poor folks even poorer. No worries. Greed is good. Well, guess what? That get-rich-on-the-backs-of-the-poor plan blew up in everyone's faces.
The same thing is about to happen with Health Care. And with the Oil crisis. And with the war profiteering. Bear Stearns was just the beginning. Karma's a b!tch.
WAKE UP, WASHINGTON!!!!!!!!!
All great Empires come to an end. The Greek and Roman Empires ended long ago, but the British Empire ended maybe 100 years ago and ours seems headed in the same direction. I didn't think the American Empire was going to end in my lifetime. Now it's beginning to look like I'm wrong.
Honestly, if it comes down to a Clinton / McCain presidential race, I am going to start looking into becoming an ex-pat. I can't afford to live in this country much longer. I definitely can't afford to retire here with the way things are going. 90% of my ancestors were Europeans who were in this country by the early 1700s and native Americans who have been here for thousands of years, so leaving the U.S. is not something I would consider on a whim. It's become a more and more serious topic of conversation at my house.
Hillary's "campaign of terror" has sucked the hope from my marrow. If she wins the nomination, it's proof that the major parties will never really allow the majority of the population to have a meaningful voice in our government. If she loses, she's not going to admit defeat until she ruins Obama's chances of being elected by ruining his reputation through hook or crook to make her own questionable credentials look better. It's the same tactics she would use against McCain if she gets the nomination, but she is turning that stream of bile against a member of her own party. Again, Karma is a b!tch. It's going to bite her and the Democrats in a big way, come November.
I can't believe the DNC is going to keep sitting idle while Hillary -- via this protracted, UNWINABLE nominmation process -- hands another November election to the Republicans. Everyone said the Democrats couldn't possibly lose in November. They've stumbled upon just about the only way they could lose it.
Thanks, Hillary. President McCain will thank you for your efforts.
OBAMA - GORE
When asked about her and Obama on the same ticket:
"Well, that may, you know, be where this is headed," Clinton said. "But of course, we have to decide who's on the top of the ticket, and I think that the people of Ohio very clearly said that it should be me."
Last I heard, Ohio doesn't have a president, but if Hillary wants the job, she's welcome to apply. If she wants to be Vice President, it would be painful but marginally tolerable. If she uses a George W. trick to steal the popular vote and the nomination from Mr. Obama, I will never, ever vote for her for any elected post. She had her chance. Her 'experience' and 'knowledge' did not pan out and she has blown through tens of millions of dollars on a campaign where her judgement and decision-making capabilities have not panned out as she claims they would if she were president.
Now she is going to spend 10's of millions more - for both candidates - to prove she is politics as usual and fight this thing to a stalemate.
SHEESH!! You lost. Get over it, Hillary, before you cost the Democratic party the election this Fall.

Oh, Barack, say it ain't so.
"Her campaign argued that Mr. Obama had greatly outspent her on television advertisements in all three states."
This is typical political thinking of the past. Whoever spends the most money, wins. They don't yet realize that it's whoever the voters believe in most will win in come-from-behind victories with 2 to 1 margins. A few commercials didn't change THAT many minds.

Yes, We Can
This has to be seen to be believed. American people, are we really so gullible? Where are the tears she is supposedly wiping?

That she is exploiting disabled Veterans for these self-promotional Watch Hillary Show Emotion theatrics turns my stomach.
This is a woman who prided herself on NEVER crying in public back when it was politically correct for powerful women to never show emotion. Some analyst has told her that people now think she's TOO unemotional so she must shed some crocodile tears to warm the hearts of the voters. If I really believed her eyes had suddenly sprung a leak after all these years, I wouldn't be so disgusted.
I can't believe people are falling for something this shameful.
Obama campaign claims "irregularities" in Louisiana

The Associated Press is reporting that Illinois Sen. Barack Obama has a big lead in Washington state’s Democratic caucuses. With about 24% of the results in, Obama was winning 65% of delegates to New York Sen. Hillary Clinton’s 33%. Obama was running strong across the state, winning at caucus sites in a wide variety of communities from Seattle to Yakima and Renton to Chehalis, the AP said.
