"What began 21 months ago in the depths of winter must not end on this Autumn night. This victory alone is not the change we seek - it is only the chance for us to make that change." - President Obama on Election Night
This quote from the President served as the theme for Camp Obama trainings held throughout Minnesota this last weekend. We talked about the need for health insurance reform and what it will take to make sure we bring access to insurance to the 440,000 uninsured in Minnesota. It was inspiring to be in rooms with such great activists who are giving so much to make change in their communities.
Here is a picture from one of our trainings in Minneapolis:
OFA volunteers in Minnesota gathered at the airport bright and early this morning to greet Minnesota Congressmen Walz and Ellison as they returned home from Washington. When the Congressmen came down the escalator into baggage claim, we stood there cheering with homemade signs that said THANK YOU!
Getting up so early wasn't easy, but one volunteer put it best, "We have to be here. I personally have to be here for my daughter who doesn't have insurance. Our Congressmen brought health insurance to hundreds of thousands of Minnesotans. I don't care what time it is, we have to be here to say thanks."
Tonight, dozens and dozens of volunteers, from Duluth to Minneapolis and Avon to St. Paul, volunteers are gathering to do two main things. We are celebrating the victory we won one year ago. We worked hard to put our country back on track and are proud all that has happened in the last year. Click the link to find an event near you: http://bit.ly/11V8i0
We are also calling our Members of Congress to ensure they are supportive of health insurance reform. Now is the time for reform. With a vote coming very soon in the US House, volunteers in Minnesota are making sure that every single Representative knows we’re supporting health insurance reform.
