The Bush Administration obviously understood the consequences of their actions...
Gen. Eric K. Shinseki (2003)
Iraq is "a piece of geography that's fairly significant," Gen. Eric K. Shinseki said at a hearing of the Senate Armed Services Committee. And he said any postwar occupying force would have to be big enough to maintain safety in a country with "ethnic tensions that could lead to other problems."
Wolfowitz (2003)
Mr. Wolfowitz, the deputy defense secretary, opened a two-front war of words on Capitol Hill, calling the recent estimate by Gen. Eric K. Shinseki of the Army that several hundred thousand troops would be needed in postwar Iraq, "wildly off the mark." Pentagon officials have put the figure closer to 100,000 troops.
"We have no idea what we will need until we get there on the ground," Mr. Wolfowitz said at a hearing of the House Budget Committee. "Every time we get a briefing on the war plan, it immediately goes down six different branches to see what the scenarios look like. If we costed each and every one, the costs would range from $10 billion to $100 billion."
Clinton (October 10, 2002)
Floor Speech on S.J. Res. 45, A Resolution to Authorize the Use of United States Armed Forces Against Iraq
“It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons. Should he succeed in that endeavor, he could alter the political and security landscape of the Middle East, which as we know all too well affects American security.”
Obama (2002)
"I know that even a successful war against Iraq will require a U.S. occupation of undetermined length, at undetermined cost, with undetermined consequences. I know that an invasion of Iraq without a clear rationale and without strong international support will only fan the flames of the Middle East, and encourage the worst, rather than best, impulses of the Arab world, and strengthen the recruitment arm of al-Qaeda."
We are at war. Yet it will not be won with guns. This is a war of ideas. The only weapons with power are words. Destruction of the enemy is not possible. Persuasion of the enemy to join your side is the only winning strategy.
Obama is our MOAB (mother of all bombs). He will truly "shock and awe" the established dictators and radicals. Those who constantly scare their people into blind following by ranting against Bush, Blair, and the West will find their words off the target.
Bush, Clinton, Bush, Clinton is a tragic example of democracy. Those around the world struggling for freedom will feel hopeless. America run by family dynasties... please no.
