Hopefully the Obama campaign is keeping an eye on the blogs here... Interesting tidbit from McCain's past at http://www.digitaljournal.com/article/250126/Op_Ed_John_McCain_Employs_Maverick_Status_for_Political_Attention.
"The fundamental question is: What is the United States' interest in Lebanon? It is said we are there to keep the peace. I ask, what peace? It is said we are there to aid the government. I ask, what government? It is said we are there to stabilize the region. I ask, how can the U.S. presence stabilize the region?...The longer we stay in Lebanon, the harder it will be for us to leave. We will be trapped by the case we make for having our troops there in the first place.''
Random thougts, having just returned from an Obama victory in S. Reno.
From my precinct, the initial count was as follows:
Obama: 65
Clinton: 47
Edwards: 10
Kucinich: 6
Uncomitted: 0
Candidates needed 20 votes for viability, so only Obama and Clinton were viable.
Of the 16 Edwards/Kucinich votes, 12 went to Obama!!
Final total:
Obama: 77 (60.16%)
Clinton: 51 (39.84%)
What if...
To get to 6 delegates, or 66.6% of the votes, Obama would have needed 84 of 128 votes, or 7 more votes total. It was mathematically impossible for Obama to rise to that level with only 16 total voters having to re-commit. If Obama could have taken all 16 votes, his total woudl have been 81, three short of 84.
