Yesterday's event went really well.
Check out the blog at: www.myspace.com/bowlingforobama b/c I can't figure out how to make the HTML Editor on this site accept pictures. I've tried, but it's not working.
Bottom line, we had between 100 - 130 people come out to the event. We raised nearly 800 in contributions, silent auction, merchandise and bowling fees!
I couldn't have done it w/out the support of my husband and friends/neighbors.
Here's an excerpt of Obama's Father's Day speech.
It's from the New York Times.
Mr. Obama spoke of the burden that single parenthood was on his mother, who raised him with the help of his maternal grandparents.
“I know the toll it took on me, not having a father in the house,” he continued. “The hole in your heart when you don’t have a male figure in the home who can guide you and lead you. So I resolved many years ago that it was my obligation to break the cycle — that that if I could be anything in life, I would be a good father to my children.”
But he also acknowledged his own flaws as a father, citing the breakneck schedule of the presidential campaign and the rare days he spends with his children.
“I say this knowing that I have been an imperfect father,” he said, “Knowing that I have made mistakes and I’ll continue to make more, wishing that I could be home for my girls and my wife more than I am right now.”

It's finally here, our official Travis County Precinct 463 Barack Obama supporter web page!
For now our fundraising goal is $1000, but as our group grows - as neighbors, families, and friends join - we can raise the bar.
Please feel free to submit a blog or send out a group wide message. As the race goes on, we need to stay committed to the passion and beliefs that we hold dear. If we didn't believe that Obama was the right candidate and if we didn't believe in our ability to transform hope into action and change, then we wouldn't have waited all those hours that Tuesday night back in March.
Let's stay connected and cultivate community action!
Let's do it! Let's go, Obamanos!
Okay, so ATX Precinct 463 wasn't approved b/c the name didn't reflect where or what our group is about. So, I renamed it Travis County Precinct 463 and am hoping to have that group approved/published soon.
By the way, I found pics taken by Obama staff the night of the caucus..check them out on Flicker at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bsross/
But that's not why "I'm so excited"... no, the reason I'm so excited is b/c I've gotten feedback from the Obama Bowl-fundraisers who are holding a huge event on the 20th. The organizer said he'd give me the lowdown on what worked and what might work better w/some tweaks!
Ah! I really want our Bowl-O-bama event to be an awesome event and fundraiser. With all the hits that have been thrown at Obama, I want to make sure that he has our support 100% -- in spirt, in numbers, and in funds. Especially since the RNC has "Victory Fund" for McCain going. Now more than ever we need to make sure that Obama's camp has what it needs to win the Whitehouse in November!
=-)

Brilliant, revealing, riveting...

Most of the free world has heard that McCain said, in an interview with the Wall Street Journal on Nov. 26, 2005, "I'm going to be honest: I know a lot less about economics than I do about military and foreign policy issues. I still need to be educated."
He again said, during his interview with The Chicago Tribune on Dec. 18, 2007, "The issue of economics is something that I've really never understood as well as I should. I understand the basics, the fundamentals, the vision, all that kind of stuff."
Of course during the January '08 debate (and afterward), he's been quoted as saying that he does understand the economy.
Visit www.ontheissues.org/2008/John_McCain_Budget_+_Economy.htm for more on this topic.
But now we've heard just how much he 'knows...about military and foreign policy issues." During today's questioning of Gen. Petreaus, McCain said that Iran (a Shiite nation) is supporting a Sunni group in Iraq (Al-Qaeda). For those of you keeping up, this is the fifth time he's confused Shiite and Sunni group affiliations.
Clearly, this is significant. We're not talking 'tomatoe - tomAto' here, these are political dynamics that our next president should understand. If he can't articulate his questions to Gen.Petreaus now, how will he fare if he were Commander in Chief?
Check out the post on Democrats.org, it's called "McCain Gets It Wrong - Again!"
With General Petreaus testifying before Congress earlier today, Senator McCain once again got basic facts wrong about the situation on the ground in Iraq. During his questioning, he referred to al Qaeda as an "an obscure sect of the Shi'ites." This has become a rather frequent problem for the GOP nominee.
