If anything the past election reminded us all, people and politicians alike, that the American people "do" govern this country. It was an exciting and invigorating time for the voters and an astonishing wake up call for the legislators. "Grass root" what it was called; I simply call what it's supposed to be. It was early during the war in Iraq that my husband did write to our representative and voiced his opinion against the war. I wish I had kept his reply! He vehemently supported the war and all the facts that had led the Bush administration in proof of WMD. And how wrong he was! During the past elections, same politicians tried hard in establishing contact with the neglected "electorate". It was only then that we realized how important our voice was. We decided to remain in touch with our representatives’ office. It was also with some envy that we noticed how the conservatives around us were so committed in doing so for a very long time. We are the force behind Obama's administration. We have elected him and we are not to abandon him to the mercy of the Washingtonian legislators. Regardless of what the stimulus package can or cannot do, the most important thing is to let the legislators know that "we are supporting Pres Obama's efforts". Write to your representatives and senators and let them know how committed you are to the choice you have made last November. This economic crisis showed us that none of our politicians, or economists for that matter, knows how to get us out of this mess. There would be no perfect solution. There would be loss and hardship no matter what you do. The point is to limit the damage and start to rebuild. If anything Obama's team has a "plan". They understand that times have changed. One needs a novel vision to address the crisis. What is of utmost importance at this point is to let the legislators know that we are backing the president's efforts even though we know that, given these extraordinary circumstances, the stimulus package will understandably have glitches. We should not let this plan become Obama's "Achilles’ heel". If you already are a voter or on the path to citizenship, please do write them and remind them of your opinions.
