Detroit City Mayor Kenneth Cockrel Jr., could be creating a city earthquake, with his plans, to cut 840 Detroit city jobs, during a time of stimulus recovery options.
Winning with endorsements from the Police Union and the UAW, Cockrel is focused on current issues in Detroit; crime, jobs, economic development, honesty and transparency in city government and environmental issues. But most of all balancing the city budget. The same budget, according to County Executive, Ficano they couldn’t audit. “It was inaudible”. Cocrkel hired former City Auditor Joe Harris to serve, as his CFO to ensure the city budget was accountable to Detroit citizens, the same budget which auditors racked their brains, in an earnest attempt to unravel.
Who will the citizens of Detroit chose as their next leader, the classy likeable guy, NBA legend seasoned at 65 and not willing to tell who his advisers are; and ask for your trust because of his successful business dealings. Or will Detroit select the 22 years younger, 43 year old good guy mayor, who has served the city of Detroit for 10 years on the Detroit City Council and president for 8 years. Mayor Cockrel has written and passed key legislation to improve the quality of life in Wayne County and in the city of Detroit.
A cum laude graduate of Wayne State University with a Bachelor of Arts in print journalism, Mayor Cockrel is a former reporter for the Detroit Free Press, the Grand Rapids Press and the Cincinnati Inquirer. Mayor Cockrel is a graduate of the inaugural class of the Michigan Political Leadership Program at Michigan State University as well as the Program for State and Local Government Officials at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government
Former Detroit City Mayor, Kwame Kilpatrick once known as the Hip Hop Mayor; Today Kenneth Cocrkrel Jr, once known as Shrek, now with the perception of Mayor Delay & Dawdle will return, to his former position with Detroit City Council, if he doesn’t pull a win off, on the May 5th election.
Kilpatrick resigned last fall. Cockrel stepped in on an interim basis. The winner between Bing & Cockrel will finish Kilpatrick’s term that ends December 31, 2009. Detroit will vote again this year for the regular Mayoral election.
Detroit City Mayor Kenneth Cockrel Jr, will be interviewed by Nina Calahan-James, Washington Correspondent for Church & State Talk Radio. CalahanJames will be joined by Legal Analyst, Joseph Humphries; Kim Bettie, former General Motors Executive Trainer & Show Commentator along with co-host, Kwame Hardy.

Detroit’s Cobo Hall Expansion Plan-- $20 Million Dollars killed by Detroit City Council. By Nina Calahan-James, Freelance Writer & Washington Correspondent, Church & State Talk Radio Detroit Michigan residents are excited about $20 million dollars they could receive. The 20 Million dollars would permit the expansion plan for the home for the North America International Auto Show, Detroit’s Cobo Hall convention center.
The plan calls for a total renovation of the current Cobo Hall and a 120,000 square-foot expansion. Church & State Talk Radio Detroit, interviewed Wayne Country Executive, Robert A Ficano on Saturday March 7, 2009. Ficano, an innovative public servant successfully manages the largest county in the state of Michigan, with over 2.1 million citizens and the eleventh largest county in the nation. Tenacity for a tireless ambassador, Ficano regularly meets with citizens, community leaders, the corporate community and other elected officials throughout the county, the State of Michigan and nationally to highlight and victorously promote Wayne County.
Ficano intends to victoriously revitalize Detroit with his current futuristic initiative, the expansion of Cobo Hall Convention Center. For over decades the Detroit’s Cobo Hall has been the venue for the North American International Auto Show. This venue provides sixteen thousand jobs and millions of dollars in economic impact each year. Detroit’s Cobo Hall has deteriorative with antidote leaks that cannot be fixed in the basement. Cobo Hall is in dire need or repairs, upgrades and major expansion. Detroit City Council threw a serious punch, bruising the plans to renovate and expand Cobo Center, when it killed a deal from legislation for a $288-million expansion and renovation of Cobo.
When you drive into many of the Detroit neighborhoods, dark shaded glasses may not shield you from the thousands of dilapidated homes, drug crack houses and buildings glaring at you. Detroit city council members can’t see to get it together. City Council members are being referred to as a tragic circus, a group of people you would laugh at in a Tyler Perry movie. Many Detroit residents agree their city council members are a ridiculous embarrassment, unprofessional and just too dumb to run a city of Detroit’s magnitude and global potential. Detroit City Council members are split in their position; many afraid to surrender their precious city jewel, turning the home of the North American International Auto Show over to a regional authority. Wayne County Executive, Ficano is facing a tough dirty battle with Detroit City Council.
During the interview with Church & State Talk Radio Ficano stated “The audit firms have not been able to audit the city of Detroit’s books. One of the problems we encounter, trying to design the legislation, Detroit’s books were unauditable. We were trying to determine the cost to manage and run Detroit City Hall. They weren’t able to audit the books. In the line area, the city spends 15 Million a year out of their general fund, just to open the doors. Under this agreement that 15emillion a year, they don’t have to give out of their general fund. Detroit could use this money to balance their budget, hire police officers, firemen or to pay off debt”. Chicago's McCormick place and the LA Convention Center are more modern and accommodating to automaker displays.
Ficano continued. “These venues Chicago. LA, Beijing and Parris want the auto show because of the economic activity”. “We have 6000 journalist that show up every year in comparison to the super bowl drawing only 3000 journalist” County Executive, Ficano and Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm the state Legislature and key leaders in metro Detroit, signed off on a plan to create a five-member board that would own and operate Cobo Hall.
The deal also would provide $20 million to Detroit and relieve the city of Cobo’s annual operating deficit. The legislation created a five-member authority with representatives from Detroit, the state, Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties. L.Brook Paterson is one of the stakeholders. L. Brooks Patterson is beginning his fifth four-year term as Oakland County Executive, after winning re-election in 2008 by another large electoral margin. He is the chief elected official in one of Americas most affluent and progressive counties receiving number one status in many U. S. categories. During the 16 years of the Patterson administration, Oakland County government has earned respect from Wall Street for its solid tax base and sound financial policies by attaining and maintaining a coveted AAA bond rating, which only 34 of the nation's 3,200 counties have received.
The Detroit City Council is opposed of the authority of the stakeholders for the expansion deal offering major upgrades and over 20 Million dollars. City Council President, Monica Conyers achieved the votes necessary to kill the expansion deal by one vote from City Council member Alberta Tinsley-Talabi. She switched sides to grant the necessary five votes to reject the expansion deal. Conyers have been noted lauded the vote, saying Cobo will remain "in the hands of the citizens of Detroit." It’s not over yet.
The city of Detroit has not demonstrated the ability to manage their budget. Detroit remains in a deficit, with automotive financial troubles increasing and over 500,000 unemployed workers. Michigan cannot afford to lose the economic impact of Cobo Hall and it largest venue, the North America International Auto Show.

President-elect Barack Obama has chosen Steven Chu, a Nobel Prize-winning physicist who heads the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, to be the next Energy Secretary, Democratic sources said today. He also has picked veteran regulators to fill out his environmental and climate team.
Obama plans to name Carol Browner, who led the Environmental Protection Agency for eight years under President Clinton, to fill a new White House post overseeing energy, environmental and climate policies, the sources said.
Obama has also settled on Lisa P. Jackson, chief of staff to New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine (D) and former head of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, to head the EPA. Nancy Sutley, a deputy mayor of Los Angeles for energy and environment, will chair the White House Council on Environmental Quality.
The son of highly educated Chinese immigrants, Chu won the Nobel Prize in 1997 for his work in the "development of methods to cool and trap atoms with laser light."
But, in an interview last year with The Post, Chu said that he began to get more interested in energy and climate change several years ago. "I was following it just as a citizen and getting increasingly alarmed," he said. "Many of our best basic scientists realize that this is getting down to a crisis situation."
He sought and won the top job at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in order to focus on energy issues. Chu is in London and was unavailable for comment, but the physicist has been, in the words on his Web site, on a "mission" to make the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory "the world leader in alternative and renewable energy research, particularly the development of carbon-neutral sources of energy."
What is Extensive Vetting for Potential Obama Appointees?
Michigan has approved the smoking of marijuana for medical reasons. Can smoking marijuana threatened your hopes of landing a top presidential appointment? An army of lawyers from Michigan is faithfully volunteering on President-Elect Barack Obama’s Transition Team to vet his potential picks.
The assembly of President Elect Barack Obama’s administration is an explicit, exemplary and prodigious investigation. This process is beyond previous prerequisites of a government job. It’s above the acquisition of obtaining your actual precise hair count, yes, numbers of hair strands you may have. Tidous process?
These lawyers are utilizing a new level of scrutiny of any task on his transition team. They are vetting his potential picks with unprecedented scrutiny of their personal, financial and professional backgrounds.
Embarrassing e-mails, text messages, diary entries, my space web pages and Facebook profiles? Gifts worth more than $50, other than those from relatives and long-standing friends? Family members though third generations. Validate it. What did your great grand parents do for a living? Do you have any second cousins with connections to Fannie Mae, Freddie Mack, AIG or any other company receiving a federal bailout?
Obama is conducting the vetting process much the way he managed his campaign: methodically, thoroughly and on a prodigious scale. He did not wait until he won the election to vet his favored picks. Soon after he clinched the Democratic nomination, lawyers quietly prepared dossiers of about 150 contenders for senior positions -- often without the candidates themselves knowing. Obama is discipline to reading and studying with a semblance more towards Lincoln’s political strategies and thought processes and other a select few others.A Senior Obama Transition Adviser stated, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

My Mother is Coming with me!
George Jefferson didn’t take his mother or mother in law with him as he and Weezy moved up. Like any good son in law would, President Elect Barack Obama invites Marian Robinson, his mother in law to move on up with the first famiy.
Barack Obama will be the first American president to appoint a First Granny. Cultural Change is coming to the White House. Michelle Obama’s mother has reluctantly agreed to move from Chicago to Washington to take care of her granddaughters as they adjust to their new home at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.Marian Robinson, 71, was an indispensable part of the Obama campaign as babysitter for Malia, ten, and seven-year-old Sasha. Where is Granny? When is she coming? These girls wouldn’t have it any other way! With the busy schedule of father then president and mother then America’s First Lady, where is the comfort of Granny? What was know as the extended family, has now changed to neccesitiy of immediate family, Granny.
The move could signal the first time in living memory that three generations of a family have moved into the White House. But the fiercely independent Mrs Robinson has suggested she could take a flat nearby because she doesn’t want Michelle, 44, has insisted that with 132 rooms, there will be no shortage of space.
She said she ‘begged’ her mother to leave her long-time home in Chicago’s tough South Side.‘The girls are going to need her as part of their sense of stability,’ she told Newsweek magazine.‘And what is true for my mum is that she does anything for us and her grandkids. All they have to do is look at her with sad eyes and she is done for.
’Marian Robinson gets along splendidly with her son-in-law -- so well that Michelle Obama has persuaded her mother, 71, to leave Chicago and move to Washington. The former secretary -- widowed in 1991, retired last year -- was the primary caregiver for Malia and Sasha when their parents were on the campaign trail. Marian will help the family make the transition to a new school, new friends and presidential spotlight. Just like a mom.
Studying the psychology of black families, I say this is an excellent decision made by America’s next first family as a family. Critics may wonder, what type of culture is coming to the white house. It will truly be a testament to the Obama’s core belief of strong family values. It also demonstrates the deep love within the black family. Besides all of that, these children are being uprooted from their home. Granny Marian will do more for them than any pet coming to the white house. Surely it’s not meant to be offensive to the expertise of any secret service assigned to the girls. Marian will provide a solid link in the transition and serve as the chief of acclimation for the entire family. I’m curious if Marian might even teach the cooks a few things about soul food or give them a day off here and there.
Carla Sferrazza Anthony, historian of the National First Ladies Library in Ohio stated, “ Yes, it’s a very wise decsion. It will provide continuity and intimacy to these two girls and for her daughter, the first lady, Michelle Obama.

What a way to prepare for the biggest news of his life! Basketball.
Sports will always be a great passtime pleasure of Americans!
As the day drew night fall, election night arose!
Will Jesse Jackson Jr. fill the new Senate Seat of President Elect Barack Obama? Just like with any job, when the boss resigns, a position is open! There is no difference with the Senate seat. This seat will not be filled as quickly as Detroit City Mayor's replacement. The process is somewhat different with State Law. CHICAGO – President-elect Barack Obama said Thursday that he will resign from the Senate effective Sunday. In a statement, the junior Illinois senator called his four-year term "one of the highest honors and privileges" of his life and said the people of Illinois will stay with him as he leaves the Senate to begin "the hard task of fulfilling the simple hopes and common dreams of all Americans as our nation's next president."Obama victorious won the presidency last week over Republican John McCain.Under state law, Democratic Gov. Rod Blagojevich will name Obama's replacement for the remaining two years of his term. Blagojevich has said he expects to make a decision by year's end, and has ruled out appointing himself. Obama, elected in 2004, is the only black senator. His resignation reduces the Democratic majority to a bare minimum for the post-election session that begins next week. The party retains control as long as Independent Sen. Joseph Lieberman of Connecticut sides with them. Some Democrats favor punishing Lieberman, who endorsed McCain, for his speech at the Republican National Convention this summer and other critical remarks about Obama. Obama has told Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid he is not interested in seeing Democrats drive Lieberman from the Democratic caucus.Blagojevich's appointee would serve until the next national election in 2010.Obama has made clear he's deferring to the governor, saying last week: "This is the governor's decision; it is not my decision." However, Obama also said his replacement should be "somebody who is capable; somebody who is passionate about helping working families in Illinois meet their dreams."Potential candidates to replace Obama include Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., Rep. Jan Schakowsky, Illinois Senate President Emil Jones and Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan. On Tuesday, Obama appeared with another possible replacement, Iraq war veteran Tammy Duckworth, to commemorate Veterans Day. She is a former congressional candidate and head of the Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs.A day later, Obama friend and adviser Valerie Jarrett made it known that she's not interested in the Senate seat. Last Saturday, Jesse Jackson Jr. appeared on the new CNN show of Late Night with DL Hughley speaking with dilligence his run for the senate seat. Sources say that the early front-runner has fallen off the radar, despite actively pursing the appointment. My inquisitive eyebrow has risen, perhaps Mr. Jackson Jr. will accept our interview invitation for a closer look.Speculation among political watchers that Duckworth -- the state's director of veteran affairs -- has the best line on the job were fueled after she and Obama appeared together to mark Veterans Day in Chicago on Tuesday. The two placed a wreath on the soldiers memorial at Soldier Field.Other Springfield sources point to Dan Seals. He has run for congress unsuccessfully twice against North Shore Rep. Mark Kirk. His appointment would enable Blagojevich to say he kept one African-American in the U.S. Senate, which would otherwise have none with Obama's departure.Seals says he's flattered to be a part of the discussion and that he would accept the appointment if it's offered. Blagojevich has said he wants to name Obama's replacement by Christmas.
In a statement, the junior Illinois senator called his four-year term "one of the highest honors and privileges" of his life and said the people of Illinois will stay with him as he leaves the Senate to begin "the hard task of fulfilling the simple hopes and common dreams of all Americans as our nation's next president."
Obama victorious won the presidency last week over Republican John McCain.
Under state law, Democratic Gov.
Obama has told Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid he is not interested in seeing Democrats drive Lieberman from the Democratic caucus.
Blagojevich's appointee would serve until the next national election in 2010.
Obama has made clear he's deferring to the governor, saying last week: "This is the governor's decision; it is not my decision." However, Obama also said his replacement should be "somebody who is capable; somebody who is passionate about helping working families in Illinois meet their dreams."
Potential candidates to replace Obama include Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., Rep. Jan Schakowsky, Illinois Senate President Emil Jones and Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan.
On Tuesday, Obama appeared with another possible replacement, Iraq war veteran Tammy Duckworth, to commemorate Veterans Day. She is a former congressional candidate and head of the Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs.
A day later, Obama friend and adviser Valerie Jarrett made it known that she's not interested in the Senate seat.
Potential successors said Thursday they had heard nothing from the governor to indicate that he has changed plans or intends to make a decision soon.
Duckworth said the governor's office hadn't contacted her to discuss the position or a timetable. U.S. Rep. Danny Davis said the same, although he predicted Blagojevich wouldn't let the decision wait until Christmas.
"My sense is that the governor will probably not drag this out too long," said Davis, D-Ill.
Obama's aides say his Senate office will remain open for a while so that staffers can archive Senate documents for Obama's future presidential library and contact constituents. It will close some time within the 60 days after the resignation becomes effective Sunday.
Blagojevich said whatever thoughts Obama has on the subject would carry a lot of weight. The governor's press secretary wrote in an e-mail Thursday that Blagojevich would have no comment on Obama's announcement.

Change is coming to American let us not forget
Before the election was near end millions of Americans was inspired by Senator Obama
By his strong message of hope and bringing this country back to what America stands for, There was large crowds cheering on embracing the idea that we the people are one people we are the united states, This message rang in our ears from state to state across the world, Now that the election is over, The excitement of new found hope as arrive the signs come down the rally’s are over the dust as settle and President Obama is rolling up his sleeves to face the worst mess this country as ever seen in many years, Lets not forget those messages we all heard and accepted from the bottom of our hearts, Lets not forget the homeless, The jobless, The families that have been cripple by this dark hole, May we all dig deep in our hearts and carry out the message the chance of a life time to fix the broken homes, Hearts of those most affected by this horror.
Leave the bittier feelings of hate towards all walks of life in the past, embrace those that come to this country to escape the horrors of their own land because of fail leaders. Freedom rings for all, No one is looking for a hand out but a chance to be part of what a great nation as to offer. Just place yourself in those with less. walk in their shoes those with children wouldn’t you want a better future for your children a chance of happiness full of hope and dreams, So dose those that brave the great danger to bring their families to better lands, Let us never forget the men and women that die for us and fought for us
President Obama can not do this alone we must all join helping hands and do all that we can to keep this hope and dream alive every single day, If you have been blessed with the opportunely to a good education and Job Just remember it is not socialist to share those same opportunely to others, Just remember if you have two loafs of bread and only need one why not share that with your neighbor that as none.
This is not consider socialist This is lending a helping hand in time of great need, people assume that a homeless person made their own bed and now must lay in, Have you ever stop and ask that person how they become homeless? You may be shocked women on the streets are women that was unable to get a good education lost there spouse not enough income to pay rent and the basic needs to have shelter. People with no families to lend a helping hand
We as Americans do not leave a stray dog on the side of the road but yet we find it so easy to walk over a man or women, As we walk by to our home with all the comfort of a warm bed a good book snacks to eat.. We don’t consider how this happen to those people until we ourselves are all most faced with the same, You see I know this because I too was one of those people, How could this have happen I ask myself how could people be so blinded by what was taking place, How did this country get like this. Was we so busy or wrap up in our own success we fail to see not everyone was so blessed, Did we really believe we work harder then those with less, we was smarter then those kind of people?
Did we ever once stop and think about how and why we have blessed. Maybe our parents or grandparents worked really hard and left it all to us, Gave us a chance they never had. Did we take that for granted? What is Rich and well off anyway? Does rich mean my heart beats different then yours, Is my skin a different color, is my looks better then yours, Maybe true but went you need blood to save your life do you ask did this come from someone rich? If not why? Because you needed it to save your life or your Childs life?
Of course you didn’t ask because you didn’t care if that blood come from someone homeless, or someone without education or someone without food, None of that matter because you needed it, You took it without even thinking or caring, But you was blessed because some cared and gave maybe all they had to give at the time, So this year during the holidays and all year, each every year after that just remember we are all Americans that care want have hopes and dreams and needs just like you, So if you can change just one person’s life and give that one person just one small gift, Maybe a hug maybe a kind word, maybe just a little hope then you my friend have lived the American dream.
