This is what supporting Obama is all about, it's about what YOU can do to bring about change.
OCTOBER 12!!
We wanted to bring to your attention an important and fast-approaching deadline that may keep many of our supporters from voting for Senator Obama in the February 5 primary. Unaffiliated or third-party registered voters in NY must change their party affiliation to Democrat by OCTOBER 12, 2007 to be able to vote for Senator Obama in the NY presidential primary on February 5. That is 9 days away!
With Senator Obama’s support high among young people and independent voters, we need to let our supporters know that this date is approaching and they must act NOW to change their registration if they are not a registered Democra
I recommend the read on the link below so you can have some background when talking to people when they ask you about the national polls. You may already have your own way of keeping the National polls into perspective, but I found this interesting. Most importantly point out that the primary states are what really matters and there it's a virtual tie, and lately Obama leading in Iowa.

Keep in mind that at this stage it's as much a psychological game as anything, and the HRC camp wants Obama supporters to lose steam or get demotivated. They know our energy is one of the things she has no chance of beating. Keep your eyes on the prize!!!
I know many of you weren't able to attend the Walk for Change Walkathon, but don't despair we have other opportunities for you to help support the Senator's campaign!! It all starts with attending the event planning meeting on September 22. Obama headquarters has put several challenges out to the grassroots organizations, such as getting Obama on the ballots in our districts, hosting fundraisers, youth voter registration, awareness building etc. We can't do it without you. Now that it's September the campaign needs our ACTIONABLE support today. We need your ideas, we need your network connections and we need your energy. That's what makes the Obama grassroots organization different from any other, we channel our support and enthusiasm into actions. And that's what helps win elections.
We're FIRED UP and READY TO GO!!!! Monica
Great job to everyone that walked today in the Walk for Change Walkathon. We really showed dedication to the Obama campaign! A few rain drops didn't hold us back!! We also got to meet new supporters, some of whom the walk was their first ever political event. Go the Photos section of the group site and see pics from the walk. http://ph.groups. yahoo.com/ group/RochesterD emsforObama/ photos/browse/ ce2 7 And don't forget the meeting at Bagel Bin next week (Sat, Sept 22) 2-4 where we will organize petitioning for our congressional districts for Obama to be on the primary ballots. This is a hugely important activity that will need lots of support.
How come my blog post notifying members about an upcoming Obama Walkathon event and asking them to register for our groups yahoo link was deleted? The yahoo link helps us send e-mails to our members who join so we can plan our Obama events. Unless you can explain to me how that works on the Obama.com site I don't see why having the yahoo site would be an issue. The feature "send e-mail to group" doesn't work whenever I try to use it as an administrator.
Did anyone notice that my blog post is gone. I asked new members to our rochesterNYdemsforobama group to join our September 15th walkathon event and to also register at our yahoo group so that we could communicate via e-mail as needed. Either I made some kind of mistake or the website moderators deleted, I can't imagine why.
Mid-atlantic Mom commented on my post and I replied back.
Wazzzzup with that???
Obama would be impressed! In less than a week you've pushed the number of participants registered for the Walkathon from 12 to 34!! I believe there are others planning to attend who just haven't registered. But if each one of you who has registered can convince 1 other person to join you, we can double the participants overnight. Please take this challenge on. I plan to video tape the walkathon so we can send to the Obama campaign to post on the official Obama website and more importantly to show him the support he has in upstate NY (maybe we'll get a visit!!). Ann, our PR leader, has contact all of the local TV stations and newspapers so we're expecting some kind of coverage. Let's show them how serious our grassroots campaign is, we take ACTION.Take the challenge, EACH ONE INVITE ONE more person over the next 3 days. Don't forget to mention Bagel Bin will be providing free soft drinks to keep us refreshed. Thank you Bagel Bin : )If you haven't registered, what are you waiting for, join us, we need you!!!
To register for the Walkathon call Ann at 585 442-9906, or go to events under rochesterNYdemsforobama group.
Event September 15 at Noon, meet at Cobbs Hill park (culver road entrance). 1 mile family friendly walk.
Here are links to the songs I mentioned in our meeting yesterday. I think they are both great. They are youthful and catchy. We have Rap, Spanish, now we just need a rock version.

Is there any reason we can't organize or join a walk for change event? I see two established for Rochester. We should have as an agenda item for Saturday.
Steps for Creating a Successful Canvass
1. Create an event online. You’ll need to have already thought about what size of event you would like to host. Feel free to think big, like getting dozens of people together to fan out into a neighborhood, or small, like having a few close friends who are also supporters get together for a walk nearby. Once you know how large or small you want your event to be, determine what will be your “staging ground” or central location where people will gather before and after the canvass. This can be your home, park, school, or any other location. You will want to set the meeting time on June 9 in the morning, around 9:30 a.m. 2. Get help from others. If you’re planning a larger canvas, you may want to create an organizational committee with fellow interested activists. Here are some suggestions for specific roles:
Turf coordinator Coordinates splitting up neighborhoods and makes maps for door knockers.
Food coordinator. Organizes pot luck for post-canvass; solicits and organizes food distribution.
Site and Materials coordinator. Find and secure staging ground, such as a place to meet before and after the canvass. You may need to consider parking needs, restrooms, etc. Also responsible for receiving, distributing and re-collecting literature and canvass materials.
Recruitment coordinator. Responsible for reaching out to volunteers, confirming volunteer canvass sign-ups, and managing volunteer registration on canvass day.
