I read this this morning and found it to be very interesting...
Myth #5: Wealthy investors can breathe easier because the next president wouldn't dare raise income taxes in a recessionInvestors don't like paying taxes, so Obama's proposals to raise taxes on the wealthy are a frequent subject of conversation among market professionals. Economists and Washington observers, however, see few prospects to avoid higher taxes — even if McCain is elected.
One reason is the federal government's bailout plan, which adds $700 billion or so to an already bloated federal budget deficit. Even before the crisis hit, President George W. Bush and a Republican Congress had been unable to extend Bush's tax cuts beyond their scheduled expiration in 2010.
While higher taxes can hurt, a huge budget deficit is "really a problem in the long run," says Victor Li, an economics professor at the Villanova School of Business. "Whoever wins, the revenues have to be raised somewhere. Taxes have to be raised."
Many hope that Obama — or McCain, cutting a deal with a Democratic Congress — can delay this tax-raising until the economy revives. Obama "needs to be really realistic about raising taxes in an economic environment that could be really nasty," Church says.
"Right now, the focus of the Democrats is on stimulating the economy," says Daniel Clifton of Strategas Research Partners. However, a tax increase during a recession wouldn't be unusual, he adds. "Generally the government has to raise taxes in a recession because the federal deficit gets so big."
We have had the pleasure of all ready voting since my husband and I will be working the polls on Tuesday; however, it's still not too late to get this informatuon out there to those who are worried about an increase in taxes. was a part of the most moving experience I've ever had, besides skydiving. It was a perfect day for skydiving, blue skies and puffy white clouds; however, I attended the Obama rally in St. Louis at the Gateway Arch. The Arch itself is an inspiring place to be...just amazing how it was built and the history behind it. This was a very historical moment and I was able to be a part of it. I was also close enough and got to shake Senator Barack Obama's hand, our next POTUS, and something I will never forget. You could feel the true spirit of the man and his desire to serve the people surrounding him. This wasn't phony, it was a soft but firm grip of a caring man. He and Joe Biden have a huge task before them, cleaning up the mess George W. Bush will leave behind.
As for John McCain and Sara Palin's tactics with 16 days to the election, I feel it's fitting to say:
But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God - having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them. 2 Timothy 3:1-5
Please encourage everyone you know to vote. We must elect Obama/Biden, this country's only chance for unity and change!
This is a must read from the Huffington Post...
"I was appalled (and annoyed) this weekend by the newest wave of hypocrisy to come spewing perkily forth from the ever-smiling, ever-smirking, perfectly lipsticked mouth of Governor Palin...
Finally informing us what she reads, Palin said that yesterday, while leafing through her daily copy of the New York Times, she came across a story on Senator Obama and William Ayers, the 1960s militant and member of the Weather Underground, the radical and violent anti-war group. And faster than you can say "Darn right!"she saw her opportunity - and her duty. Clearly, she must inform an unknowing nation that Obama is guilty by association with Ayers.
You, Governor, should know better. As I and many journalists have noted, you have strong ties to the Alaska Independence Party. While it was finally revealed that you technically were not a card-carrying member of the AIP, it was discovered that the First Dude, between his life of high adventure in helping you rule your northern fiefdom, his competitive snowmobiling and fishing, was a member of the organization for many years.
Yes, it is a free country. You get to associate or marry whomever you want, no matter how distasteful. Yes, Senator Obama served on a board with William Ayers, a former member of the Weather Underground and now a college professor and activist in Chicago. However, Senator Obama has clearly distanced himself on numerous occasions from Professor Ayers' actions in the 1960's. This is a non-issue. Perhaps that is why you have decided to focus on it -- better a non-issue than having to learn and think about real problems that affect everyday people, like health care, the economy and education. Those, I suppose, are just too gosh darned hard.
All snarky comments aside, I do have a concern, Governor. A big one. You have never distanced yourself from a radical secessionist movement aimed at the breaking up of the Federal Union."

We, the American people, deserve better than a continuation of the same policies of the Bush Administration. John McCain is not a "Maverick" when he has voted for Bush's agenda 90% of the time. He does not promote and is not for "real change" in Washington. He has just adopted this course recently to simply win an election!
John McCain has no idea of what the needs of the majority of Americans are. After all, he has said you're middle class if you're making "less than 5 million dollars a year". Now that is truly out of touch with the American people! I sincerely thought I was among the middle class; however, by McCain's standards, I am poor by comparison. And, if I am poor, then why is my income taxed at almost 40% with him promising to continue the Bush tax breaks for the wealthy, Wallstreet and Big Oil companies? I believe it's time for those of us who are "middle class" to receive these tax breaks and for the wealthy, Wallstreet and Big Oil companies to finally "invest" in America by being taxed proportionately.
We're experiencing a crumbling economy, but John McCain says "the fundamentals of our economy are strong". I suppose if you live in John McCain's world that may be true. Unfortunately, reality is thousands of people are losing their homes and the United States government is in serious debt to China! Can we survive another 4 years of the Bush Administration? Do we want to? NO...enough is enough!!
Barack Obama has been talking about bringing "change" to Washington for the past 20 months. He hasn't waited until the defining hour to let America know that "he gets it"! He believes in the strength of the American people. We the people, ordinary people, doing extraordinary things when given the opportunity. That is why he believes in investing in our children by providing them with a quality education no matter where they may live. That is why he will tax the wealthy, those making above $250,000 a year, and provide tax breaks to those who are not in that income range. That is why he will create energy programs that will decrease our dependence on other countries and create new jobs here in America. That is why he will ensure there are programs in place to take care of our seniors, our Veterans and those who are currently and proudly serving our country in the Armed Forces. That is why he will promote a healthcare program, which will provide coverage for all Americans.
This is a defining moment for America and Barack Obama "gets it". It's not politics, its people! America needs change, real change, not some fake perception of change that John McCain is pandering. Please don't be fooled. Cast your vote in November for the real change agent, Barack Obama!
My sister-in-law has been an educator for many years now and this is what she had to say about Palin's speech from the Republican National Convention...
"YES WE CAN..........and YES WE WILL!!!! I've resolved to put this in God's Hands. After watching Palin speak, which by the way I was NOT impressed. She's a politician, for goodness sake! She's supposed to deliver an extraordinary already written speech after having two and a half days to practice the darn thing. So I wasn't impressed. I, too, could have delivered the same speech with the same facial and body gestures. YES I CAN! But I got upset with the headline that Palin knocked it out of the ball park so to speak. That's when I prayed and asked God to handle it...... Through Him, all things are possible and if there's any cheating to be had, and we know that the Republicans are going to cheat, only God can throw a monkey wrench into the plan. YES HE CAN!!! So I'm comfortable when I speak to people about registering to vote and to vote for Obama because __________ (name a reason--there are at least 5 million dollars worth) hee hee hee ...... by the way, did you know that YOU and I are middle class because we fall under the $5,000,000.00 income? Wow! Yes, we'll be okay as long as we remind people that it costs more to feed one person, let alone more than one; that it costs more to travel to work, let alone out of the area; that it costs more to stay warm in the winter or cool in the summer; that it will impact the youth because education is very low on the priority list, if it's on that list at all; that getting sick or needing medical attention is becoming a luxury (because for some, paying the incurred medical bills is as much as the mortgage); that McCain is synonymous with Bush; that McCain plans to continue the Iraq invasion that Bush so graciously reasoned we needed to do, which we all know was a mistake......ooops, I mean a LIE; that if we put our trust in God--this (Republican control) too shall pass! I'm sorry, I got carried away. "
WOW is right, but she's made some excellent talking points. So, if you need some guidance on what to say when you're trying to register people to vote or answer "Why Obama?" There it is...summed up quite nicely! Use your voice and your vote wisely...choose Obama/Biden "08!!
Sarah Palin says she is the "Commander-in-Chief of the Alaskan National Guard". Those are words in which she is using to make her appear ready to be "Commander-in-Chief" of the United States of America. Actually the Governor has very little day to day involvement with the command of the National Guard. It is the states' AG (Adjutant General)/Commissioner who oversees the Army and Air National Guard. In Alaska, it is Major General Craig E. Campbell. Maj. General Campbell is assisted by Brigidier General Thomas Katkas, Army National Guard Commander, and Brigidier General Deborah McManus, Air National Guard Commander.
On June 30, 2008 the Alaskan Air National Guard 176th Wing held a ground breaking ceremony for their historic move. Senator Ted Stevens was in attendance; however, there wasn't any mention of Govenor Sarah Palin. http://www.ak-prepared.com/dmva/Press_Releases/2008/08_June/Alaska%20Air%20National%20Guard%20Groundbreaking%20Ceremony.pdf Now she is traveling the country with Senator John McCain as his candidate for Vice President of the United States.
Govenor Palin does have the authority to activate the National Guard in times of crisis; however, her role is essentially very limited. Does this really qualify her to be Commander-in-Chief of the United States? Eighteen months in a politically appointed position, which has no hands on, day to day involvement with the administration of one of this country's military resources. Has Senator John McCain shown good judgement by choosing her as his Vice Presidential candidate? Is he really putting "country first" or is he just trying to win an election?
I have 3 sons who are active duty military, who have been deployed numerous times. My husband is a Vietnam Veteran and recently retired from the Army National Guard. My family has a long military history dating back to WWII. Please do your research and ask yourself if you can really see Sarah Palin as "Commander-in-Chief of the United States of America"? If you see this as I do, a political ploy, then please talk to everyone you know. Call your family and friends. Spread the word and use your vote wisely in November. Vote Obama/Biden!
This is from the ObamaCart blog...
We did it!
Thursday we left Akron and drove to NYC. We had an interview in Lewisburg, PA. After the interview we stoped by the Obama office and ran into Chris who worked in Butte during the pirmary.
Thursday evening we watched the speech from an apartment in Manhattan. Dixie made the NY Post the following morning as the watch party was covered by some media.
One of the greatest political speeches of American history, but I may be biased.
Friday morning we left NYC early and met Heidi for lunch and a picnic in New Haven, Conn. Heidi and her beautiful daugher provided a wonderful break in our schedule. Just taking the time to relax was great.
Then we crossed Conn, Mass and Vermont into New Hampshire. Unity is not easy to find. It really doesn't exist as a town. Will's Convience Store is about it. We met with the press there and headed off for Boston.
Cheryl made us a wonderful lobster dinner.
Today we took the ObamaCart down to Castle Island and rolled it around. It is always fun to watch people when they first see it.
In NYC as we rolled it down the street people were leaning out of their apartment windows cheering us. We needed a bit of ticker tape to complete it, but it sure was fun.
Total milage I believe is around 2730, but I have the exact numbers in our car. 15 states so far.
This afternoon we will head south, tomorrow Washing DC and then I head home.
We are all interested and engaged in this movement for change. I trust Senator Obama's choice in selecting Senator Biden to be his VP. As we move forward, let's get to know a little about Joe Biden. He has suffered tragedy in his life http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WRJgaLQxCSs&NR=1 What is his position on the War in Iraq and the use of our military forces? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v1op8vwF5UA&NR=1 What does he have to say about Barack Obama's plan for our military? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TK0hW7VqGkg&feature=user There is a consistent message here. If you support our military, then you must support Senators Obama and Biden. I have 3 sons who are active duty military. I want leaders who are willing to think about the consequences of war before they "plunge" into it. Leaders who will use our military forces wisely. Please vote Obama/Biden '08!
My son is a member of the Army Golden Knights Parachute Demonstration Team. One of their maneuvers is to pass a baton in mid-air from one team member to another. They were in Cape Girardeau, MO for the 4th of July and they performed this maneuver. Once all of the team members were safely on the ground, a young man who was 17 years old was called to the stage. The team members presented that baton to the young man in honor of his 18 year old brother's service to our country, who had sacrificed his life in the Iraq War. There wasn't a dry eye on the fair grounds.
Senator Obama is standing firm with regards to bringing our troops home from Iraq. It has been proven that the real threat is not there; however, we have young men and women giving their lives whether it is through injuries sustained, mental and/or physical fatigue from countless deployments, or the ultimate sacrifice...death. They need us to continue to fight for them here. Their rights to adequate care, support for their families, reasonable rotations, food and shelter. Please remember them... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nptA5uj6ZRY&feature=related They have and are giving their all! He was only 18...
