COMMENTARY: Obama vs. McCain...The winner of this debate is very clear!

The bad news is that my Tuesday evening Professor dropped me from his class

...long and unrelated story, but, the good news is that I got to watch last night's debate!

As it relates to the issues, there is very little if any that wasn't a rehash of Obama and McCain's last debate! As it was consistently stated post debate, McCain was in his element! A town hall meeting was the form of debate that he had been wanting all along! As a theatrical performer myself, they (Obama and McCain) both have great public speaking skills in being able to work the room, work their audience, draw people into the depths of what it is that they're speaking about and in essence, the ability to manipulate a response from them as you give the appearance and perception of speaking directly to them as if there is no one else in the room or no one else in the room matters. I'm with McCain on that! If I had to debate, having a town hall style of debate would undoubtedly be my first choice! No doubt about it, they each commanded attention from a captive audience whenever they took the floor!

However, in my opinion, McCain took the act of "debating" to a whole other level. First of all, if there had been any doubt in my mind before that McCain simply despised Obama, he erased all doubt tonight! Last night, McCain spent more time trying to discredit Obama than he did in focusing on the issues. At the very onset, he started to harp on Obama wanting to raise taxes.

"I am predicting that because of Obama's position in relationship to raising taxes ON THE WEALTHY and putting a halt on the tax breaks that THE WEALTHY have gotten in the past, lobbyists and THE WEALTHY financial supporters of McCain have lit a fire under him to kick Obama's ass publicly and win this damn election because they...THE WEALTHY...stand to lose a helluva lot if Obama wins this election."

Discrediting Obama and discrediting him on the issues of Obama raising taxes seemed to me to be McCain's sole agenda last night. So much so that he placed Obama on the defensive and caused them to run over the agreed upon time frame in which they each had to respond to the questions.

Execs' posh retreat after bailout angers lawmakers

WASHINGTON - Days after it got a federal bailout, American International Group Inc. spent $440,000 on a posh California retreat for its executives, complete with spa treatments, banquets and golf outings, according to lawmakers investigating the company's meltdown.

These are the type of ass wipes that McCain is fighting to win this election for...HIS CRONIES! The types of individuals and heads of corporations who if asked, "How many homes do you own?" Their response would be the same as McCain's was when he was asked that same damn question:

``I think - I'll have my staff get to you,'' McCain told the Politico online site when asked Wednesday how many houses he owns. ``It's condominiums where - I'll have them get to you.''

Later, the McCain campaign told Politico that McCain and his wife, Cindy, have at least four in three states - Arizona, California and Virginia.

Property records reviewed by The Associated Press show McCain and his family appear to own at least eight homes: A ranch and two condos in Arizona; three condos in Coronado, Calif.; a condo in La Jolla, Calif.; and another in Arlington, Va. The number of houses is a bit trickier to determine since the ranch has at least four houses and a two-story cabin on it.

I think that with most folks having their home foreclosed on or never having the ability to even own their own home, McCain honestly did not lie when he publicly stated that "The economy is fundamentally sound"! The economy IS fundamentally sound...IN HIS WORLD and in the world of those whom he will have allegiances to if he should win this race.

MESSAGE FROM OBAMA

I thought the differences between John McCain and me were pretty clear tonight.

I will fight for the middle class every day, and -- once again -- Senator McCain didn't mention the middle class a single time during the debate.

If you agree that we need to cut taxes for 95% of working families, reduce health care costs, and end the war in Iraq responsibly, then I need your help right now.

And if you heard John McCain push more of the same discredited policies, including tax cuts for the wealthy and giant corporations, tax increases on health care, and continuing to spend $10 billion a month in Iraq, then now is the time to act.

Four weeks from tonight, we'll know which of us will be the next president.

I could tell that McCain had started to get under Obama's skin, but, Obama succeeded in maintaining his composure by addressing the attacks and then MOVING BACK TO THE ISSUES AND RESPONDING TO THE QUESTIONS ASKED! He was consistent in doing that and what I did not see, I did NOT see Obama focusing on attacking McCain. In fact, he never attempted to attack him, just pointed out, on occasion, where he and McCain differed on various views. He also acknowledged areas in which they agreed. Obama succeeded in STAYING FOCUSED on the debate and his audience and did not allow McCain's attacks to throw him off his task of appealing to his audience that he is the better choice for President of the United States. Me, I was ready to fight and what the hell is this nails across the chalk board saying that McCain has...MY FRIEND! I consistently found myself saying to myself whenever it was time for McCain to speak, "Quit screwing around and get to the damn point and quit addressing me, an audience member and television viewer, as MY FRIEND! I am not your damn friend!" Gosh that irked the heck out of me and what about all of the lame jokes?!!!!!!

At any rate, realizing that McCain was on game, I quickly began to focus more on Obama's responses to the questions, wanting to know not only where he stood on the various issues, but, also wanting to hear his plan for addressing those issues. When the question was asked to put into order the issues that each candidate would address. McCain made the comment that he thought all three (3) issues could be addressed simultaneously because we can all work together and something about we're not operating under a rifle?!!! I had stopped taking notes by this point, but, the fact of the matter is, if that wasn't a BS answer, I don't know what was. McCain was in game mode, let me posture and say some things that sound good and give the people what they want to hear! He pulled a stage performer move too! You know the type! When the speaker thinks that they've said something really deep and profound and then they attempt to make the type of ending statement that causes people to stand to their feet and give a roaring standing ovation. Ha, ha, ha! Obama, on the other hand, laid it out on the line, here are my positions on the issues and here is how I am proposing to address the issues if I am elected President. When he responded to that same question, he addressed energy as being the first issue to do something about and then he went down the line. Bottom line is, his response was a more feasible one, a more realistic one, not trying to bite off more than he could chew and not making promises that he may be unable to or have no intention on keeping!

Also, ladies and gentlemen, we have to remember that yes, its important that we vote and that we vote our conscious on November 4th, but, let's not forget about the Electoral College. Their votes can override the majority vote in this country. In other words, the majority vote can be for Obama, but, those members of the Electoral College who allegedly represent us can vote the way that they want to vote which could very well adhere to the results of the polling places across this country or their vote could be completely opposite of those results...AND THERE IS NOTHING WE CAN DO ABOUT IT!

My prayer is that both the American people and the members of the Electoral College can begin to look at the Presidential tickets under a microscope, without prejudice, as a blind man (or woman) so that they aren't seeing race, gender or age, but, looking at...

1. The economic crises that this country is faced with today;
2. The alleged purpose of the war on Iraq, the fact that we have been unsuccessful and the fact that we need to be pulling our troops out sooner rather than later before we have more casualties;
3. The lack of respect that neighboring countries have for the United States and the severed international ties;
4. The list of issues within our government that need to be addressed and and the CHANGE that needs to take place, starting on Capitol Hill, for the sake of all Americans, not just the wealthy; and

...and be honest with themselves about which ticket is more consistent, which ticket is more honest, which ticket will attempt to do what they are stating that they will do during their campaigning and which ticket is best suited to affect the CHANGE in this country that we all so desperately need to see and experience in our lives and the lives of our children and generations to come.

This debate, for me, wasn't even close! Obama won it hands down, without any deliberation being necessary! I've tried to be fair! Most folks that I've spoken to have not bothered to even watch the debates because their attitude is, "I already know who I'm going to vote for!" Me, I need to see them in action, interacting with their constituents, talking about their platform and what they plan to bring to the table if elected President! There can be no doubt! This race is way too important to take for granted and assume that you know all that you need to know and who all the players are! The margin of error in our decision making process has to be almost null as we walk into the polling places to vote on Tuesday, November 4, 2008! I don't know, perhaps a different man (or woman), a different Republican could have left me scratching my head and second guessing my support of the Obama/Biden ticket! So far, three (3) debates (2 Presidential and 1 Vice President) and I am firm on my support of the Obama/Biden ticket! Thus far, there is no question or doubt in my mind as to who is the better choice to run this country!

McCain loses by not winning

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Watching John McCain and Barack Obama at their second presidential debate was like watching two fighters circling each other, throwing a jab here, landing a blow there, but neither one ever delivering a knockout punch.

The trouble for John McCain, however, is that he needed one.

So if you had to say somebody lost Tuesday night, it was McCain. Because he had to win and he did not. He is the one who has to change the current trajectory of the campaign, and he did not do that.

McCain is behind in the national polls and way behind in the Electoral College vote projections. His party is lagging in voter registration in key state after key state, and in voter enthusiasm in general.

This is not entirely McCain’s fault. For years, Republicans have made the argument that they are better stewards of the economy than the Democrats are. Now, with the economy in something near free fall, that is a tough argument to make.

Every time the Dow plunges, John McCain’s political fortunes plunge with it.

McCain used what he had. “Nailing down Sen. Obama’s tax proposals is like nailing Jell-O to a wall,” he said. “He wants to raise taxes. My friends, the last president to raise taxes during tough economic times was Herbert Hoover.”

“Sen. McCain, the Straight Talk Express lost a wheel on that one,” Obama responded and said of McCain: “He wants to give the average Fortune 500 CEO a $700,000 tax cut.”

The format of the debate was a town hall meeting, but it hardly mattered. Questions were asked but often not answered, and it didn’t matter that the questioner was an average citizen rather than a professional moderator.

“How can we trust either of you with our money when both parties got us into this global economic crisis?” a woman sitting on one of the risers on stage asked.

“Well, look, I understand your frustration and your cynicism,” Obama replied.

“I can see why you feel that cynicism and mistrust,” McCain replied.

Neither explained why he felt the question showed cynicism rather than realism.

Both had an overall strategy, and both summed up their strategies nicely.

“When times are tough, you need a steady hand at the tiller,” McCain said.

“We are going to have to have the courage, sacrifice and nerve to move in a new direction,” Obama said.

McCain unveiled, without any details, a new plan for the government to buy up mortgages that people can no longer afford to pay. But mostly they went over old ground, dragging each other up and down the canvas, like two pugilists who knew each other’s fighting style. No heads snapped back, however, no eyes puffed up, and no mouths got all that bloodied.

“We rushed into Iraq,” Obama said. “Sen. McCain and President Bush suggested it wasn’t that important to catch [Osama] bin Laden right now, and we could muddle through.”

“Sen. Obama would have brought our troops home in defeat,” McCain said. “I will bring them home with victory and honor.”

At one point, McCain said: “By the way, my friends, I know you grow a little weary of this back-and-forth.”

Yep.

COMMENTARY: Biden vs. Palin...A very interesting debate!

First of all, the best part about this debate, for me, was being able to sit down and have an intelligent and in-depth discussion about it, after the fact, with a couple of people...

...I gave birth to! That fact for me is as much a historical and memorable event than anything else. My college sophomore is in Baltimore, MD, but, my 12 and 13 year old watched the debate from home while I attended a couple of debate watch parties! We later talked about it and agreed on many things, but, we also disagreed on some things. My children look up to me and value my opinion, but, they are also just as stubborn and opinionated as I am and aren't afraid or intimidated to voice their own opinions. I LOVE THAT ABOUT THEM! They recognize at an early age to follow their own beliefs and philosophies, as they are developing and they understand the importance and significance of what is transpiring in our world today and are steadily looking for ways in which to have their voices heard, wanting so much to have the ability to vote in this election. They are in fact mentoring me and I am in awe of them!

At any rate, I must say, Palin did much better than I had expected that she would. I had pictured her being nervous and stumbling over the issues under Biden's wisdom and experiences. I noticed that their debate offered its spectators more personality, they were more likable being in debate mode than Obama and McCain. Palin's a beautiful woman with a beautiful smile and even in the midst of being unable to adequately respond to the issues that Biden brought up, she never lost her flavor. She, however, was clearly and undeniably a novice compared to Biden! Biden lead the debate with Palin being reactionary! She was diligent in her efforts to stick to her notes, to bring up the points that had been so poignantly written for her. Whenever Biden's response would cause her to move beyond or off the topics that she wanted to address, she was quick to start the game of word play and double talk, to say a lot of something that meant a lot of nothing, but, she did it with such finesse, poise and charisma. Then there was the CONSTANT statement...

"You can choose a ticket that will bring jobs or you can choose a ticket that will raise taxes!"

She NEVER talked about or elaborated on the proposed plan to bring jobs into a faltering economy, into an economy that is faltering due to the misappropriation of power and monies by the current administration. She faulted Biden for the comparison of the current administration with McCain, but, as Biden pointed out, nothing that McCain has said so far goes against the position and activity of the current administration. In fact, if McCain is elected President, it'll be just like Bush was still in office. What really got me was when Palin attempted to capitalize off the use of Obama's "CHANGE" by saying something to the effect that her and McCain's ticket was the right ticket for "CHANGE" in this country. Biden then listed a number of issues, one by one, stating as a matter of fact that he failed to see where McCain was offering "CHANGE" with any of those issues. Right there, Palin stumbled, but, she regrouped and talked her way on to a topic that was much closer to her comfort zone. I was a bit turned off because I really and sincerely wanted to hear what McCain was proposing on the various issues lined up against Obama's proposed offers towards "CHANGE"! We didn't get that last night.

Palin attempted on several occasions to say that Obama voted to raise taxes. Biden clarified that his vote had to do with taxing the wealthy and putting a stop on the tax breaks that the wealthy have become so accustomed to. I think that it was a dumb strategy on the part of the McCain campaign to try and attack Obama on the tax issue knowing damn well that Biden was going to clarify Obama's position on that issue and seeing how the economy is what it is, most of Obama's voters are not wealthy and could give a shit about the wealthy being taxed. In fact, if their tax breaks being taken away somehow means some relief to the lower and middle class, guess what McCain/Palin...a topic that you should have steered clear of!

I want to say too that I failed to do my homework where Biden was concerned and was unaware of the tragic death of his wife and daughter and the hospitalization of his sons. As he told that story, to show that he understood the trials and tribulations of the working class at having to move because there were no jobs where they were and being a single father raising his sons and the loss of his wife and daughter...as he got choked up reliving that story, which came from his gut, I sat there close to tears myself, feeling his pain as I sat in a restaurant/lounge thinking of my own children, one hundreds of miles away from me. If there were anybody who connected with the working class, the lower to middle class families, between Obama, McCain, Biden and Palin, it was Biden! At that very moment, I saw a father who had struggled instead of a politician and more importantly, as last night's debate moderator, Gwen Ifill, asked the question concerning the position of Vice President, I saw a man who could run this country, side by side with the President. Palin's a beautiful woman who has a beautiful smile and lots of charisma, but, do I trust her at the helm? Hell no! I don't trust her with McCain, let alone having her in the position to run this country without him or in lieu of him! I thought that it was funny as hell and really quite interesting when Ifill asked them about the Vice Presidency position. Palin responded that she and McCain had spoken along those lines and that McCain had advised her of several tasks that she would head! When it was Biden's turn, he too stated that he and Obama had spoken along those lines and that Obama had advised him that he (Biden) would be in the room with him during all major decision making! WOW! Amazing!

There is no secret that I am an Obama/Biden loyalist, but, anyone who knows me personally, if I have to eat crow, I'll put out my napkin and fork without hesitation! Prove me wrong! Show me that I've misjudged you! Make me second guess my opinion of you and your abilities! I don't have to like a person to give them credit where credit is due! I take my vote as seriously as I take raising my children and breathing the air around me! I've maintained that where I am pro black, I am more pro right and will not vote for Obama just because he's a black man, but, I will vote for him if I think that he's the right man for the job who just happens to be a black man! So far folks, for me, there are no grays in between this race! When I look at the state that this country is in both economically and in regard to international ties that have been severed...and I look at the tickets Obama/Biden and McCain/Palin, I'm sorry, but, the two folks I trust to run this country, to govern over the lives of me and my family and my neighbors and friends, to bridge international relationships so that the United States regain the respect of its international neighbors and former allies, Obama/Biden wins hands down and yesterday's debate, I don't need media polls to tell me that Biden won the debate! Shit! I was one of the judges and I had my tally sheets and when it comes to my vote on November 4, 2008, Obama/Biden got it without question, without hesitation!

Obama Supporters...STAY FOCUSED! A battle was won, but, the war isn't over yet!!!

Received a message from an on-site Obama supporter who's upset that their BLOGS bashing Hillary Clinton have been deleted! If I am being asked to choose sides, I remain steadfast in support of Barack Obama and side with the position of this site!

Think about the backlash that Obama has had to endure because of Rev. Wright and Father Phleger! This is the same premise. Yes, we do have the right to FREEDOM OF SPEECH and to speak our minds in regard to the candidates, but, not at the detriment of Obama's campaign and the site that he uses for campaigning purposes. Come on now! The media is scrutinizing Obama's every move and he is being held accountable for what others say and verbalize. We have to remain focused and see him through to the White House. That is our ultimate goal, right? When they talk about the Democratic Party uniting for the common good of the Party, THAT INCLUDES US and we can't be 100% effective in that if we, like Obama, don't make a truce with the Clintons and the entire democratic party to fight Republican Candidate, McCain! You don't have to like a person to work effectively with them! It would be suicide for Obama to continue to hold a grudge against Clinton WHILE HE'S STILL CAMPAIGNING! Even still, that phase of the campaign is now over! It's time to let it go and move forward! Obama's not in the White House yet! There's a lot of work ahead to get him there and we have to all ban together to get him there! We being "US" Obama supporters and Clinton's supporters and the supporters of all the other former democratic candidates. That CHANGE that Obama talks about and epitomizes, it starts with US! This thing can't rest on the backs of just one man because that is all he is.....one man! This site was meant for Obama supporters to come together, network, strategize and help him to win the 2008 Presidential office and guess what, that is still the purpose of this site! If there is a chance that many of Clinton's supporters may come over here to signify unification for Obama, they can't come over here met with hostility. We are ONE PARTY and our goal is to get the person elected as the Democratic Candidate for this election into the White House! We can't be bitching about who they would have preferred to see in office. That will only cause a rift between supporters and castrate any opportunity for Obama to win the 2008 Presidential Election! With that in mind, I have deleted my anti Clinton BLOG and I will embrace all who come here with a unification mindset in support of the man we're trying to get elected to office. I support the site for taking a stance! This is NOT a hate site, this is a campaign site! The fight is not over! We're still campaigning and we need all the help we can get, including the support of Clinton and her followers! Let's not forget that and let's not take this thing personally because when we screw up, the most that will happen to us is that they disable our on-site account, but, for Obama, our screw up can cost him this election. I thought that Rev. Wright understood that. Apparently he did not! I thought that all of Obama's supporters understood that as well! This isn't about you and me, this is about our support of Barack Obama for President.

Let's not get sidetracked! Let's stay focused, keep our sleeves rolled up and LET'S DO THIS!

I am posting the following which was an email forwarded to me by a member of the group, "ChicagoSouthSideSouthSuburbsForObama" from the http://my.barackobama.com website. I don't know if it is true that Obama made this request, but, even if he didn't request it, the need for he and his family to be uplifted in prayer is there and will be there from this point going forward. Please heed the call, believers and prayer warriors! Answer the call to intercess on behalf of our leader, Barack Obama!

"Lastly, I heard Obama give parting words to his supporters at an arena in Wisconsin as he departed to fly to his next destination. His words were remarkable but sadly the media did not relay his request along with their other newsflashes. I am reaching out to everyone several weeks early to advise you that I will be amongst the many other supporters, nationwide, of the Senators Presidential Campaign to spearhead fundraising efforts. We will need your support in one or several ways.

1. Help with organizing the fundraisers.
2. Support the fundraisers financially once they have been organized.
3. Support the fundraisers as a volunteer once they have been organized.
4. Both 1 and 2
5. Both 1 and 3
6. Both 2 and 3
7. All of the above

First of all, I'm thinking about a Monday night STEPPERS SET for the mature adults, closer to being like an AFTER WORK SET. Will do one and see how it goes and if it goes well, do it every Monday until Obama wins the Presidential Election!

I am also thinking about doing a WALK-FOR-OBAMA-THON where all of the participants wear OBAMA gear...purchased from this site preferrably...and walk the Chicago Lakefront for a definite number of miles and would have had to get sponsors to sponsor them so much per mile that they actually walk! Trying to come up with a few other ideas including things like "BOWLING", "SKATING", "PLEDGES PER POUND LOST" for those on a mission of health and losing weight already and so forth and so on. Would like to know what you think?

I am hoping to build a team of pro-active supporters as we see Obama through the last few months of campaigning. As I send out information to you, please, forward to your email list.
