I'm going to the Apollo this Thursday to hear Obama speak again. Should be a terrific event with, I imagine, some notable local talent. Obama is rising in the polls, he's got momentum and Iowa awaits. I predict that Obama will win Iowa, take New Hampshire and SC. Come out this Thursday to the Apollo theatre in Harlem, NYC to show your support. Tickets are only $50 and it's bound to be an event to remember. I look forward to seeing many of you there and meeting some of the people behind this great campaign. Hats off to all the organizers and volunteers!

Obama Introduces Smart Plan to Avoid War with Iran

Obama is a smart guy. Introducing a resolution to prevent Bush from launching an unauthorized war with Iran is the right way to go. Hillary did the weak thing, sending a letter. Heck, I've sent a letter to Bush via the internet asking him not to attack Iran. It is in the Senate and by law that might have the biggest chance of preventing Bush from doing another "pre-emptive strike" to avoid another smoking gun. Congratulations to Barack for the debate and for his post-debate leadership. I like this new phase.

Obama kicked ass on Myspace.com answering a large number of varied questions with clarity, honesty and intelligence. I'd like to see Hillary come off as well and as candid. A poll came out today from Iowa showing him neck and neck with the first lady -- with two months to go. Obama's a closer, and we're gonna see his end-game.

I think the Clinton machine has used all their gas and influence. People respect Barack Obama and they truly like him. We will see his numbers rise. He's got the opportunity to win Iowa and springboard from there. She could lose Iowa and fall from there. It's hard to "spin" a defeat in Iowa for the Clintons, especially if she loses another Primary like NH or South Carolina.

Take that Hillary Clinton. Obama sent an e-mail and received over 2.1 Million dollars to even up the money game. I can't wait to see her loss in Iowa to Barack Obama. Senator Obama is running a good campaign and it's getting exciting as it heats up this fall. His appearance on Leno was great. His appearance on Tavis Smiley was awesome. He has the support of the people. And, I will try to get my body to New Hampshire next month to canvass. I want to see this person win. It really is important.
Thanks everyone for helping to close the gap and push Obama forward to victory.

If Barack wins Iowa, which is more than possible, some of the 2nd and 3rd tier candidates may drop out, increasing support for Obama. If Obama can win top support from Iowans, his support will snowball - leading to higher percentages in New Hampshire, Nevada, South Carolina and on Super Tuesday. We are living in a 24-hour news cycle on TV, the internet, print and the now common mobile devices which feed news constantly. Obama beating Hillary in the Buckeye State would be sensational. So, this is a tangible goal to work towards - winning Iowa.

Gore 3.0

Al Gore rounds out a good year by taking home the Nobel Peace Prize. Earlier this year he won an Oscar for 'An Inconvenient Truth' and an Emmy for his cable channel Current TV. Gore will be awarded the top prize on December 10 in Norway. Rumors of his jumping into the Presidential race are both wishful-thinking and based on speculation. His efforts to curb global warming are not, however. He has been recognized for helping to address the most pressing issue of our time.
It's too bad the Supreme Court stopped the recount in Florida seven years ago. The world might look a lot different today.

3 Months is a Lifetime (or how coffee can help)

After getting my head together today with the help of a few cups of coffee, I feel an urge to write to everybody here about the importance of Barack winning the Nomination. It's important on two fundamental levels:
1. Taking on the Republican Nominee (whether its Rudy, Romney, McCain or Thompson).
2. Starting fresh in 2009 with a real leader, a person who can turn America great again.
We've got "the guy". We've got the support. We've got the money. And we've got the infrastructure.
So, what's the problem? The problem I presume is the Media. It's the media that's telling the story of who's gonna be the Democratic nominee. They're overlooking a bit the tight race in Iowa, the overall Primary process. They're jumping the gun and already talking about the general election. Hillary can easily lose Iowa. She could lose New Hampshire and fall from there. But without crystal-balling, the facts are this: Iowa is in 3 months. Wars have been waged and won in less.
So everybody, fill up that coffee pot and get to work. Now, more than ever, our involvment (via blogging, online activism and fundraising, and media influence) will play a part in the outcome of the early primaries.
This may seem like yet another "Pep talk", but perhaps we need it. I know I do.

Obama adds $20 Million!

I've posted this on Myspace and Blogger, but wanted to share my latest with you folks as well.
Barack Obama is more than just hype. He's more than just good TV. He's a real candidate for the presidency and may just get the Democratic nomination. This weekend Newsweek released a new poll showing his lead in Iowa - ahead of Clinton by 4 points. Today Obama's campaign released their 3rd Quarter fundraising numbers. $20 million with $19 million to be used in the Primary!

People aren't donating for charity. People believe Barack's the best candidate - with the right experience, judgement and intelligence to run the country. People want a fresh voice. Money is not the most important aspect of the race but it's indicative of the real desire for change.

Obama Leads in New Iowa Poll by 4 Points!

Obama leads Hillary Clinton by 4 points in the Iowa Newsweek poll released today. This is over 3 months from the Iowa caucus occurs, and a greater lead can be made. Let's make some noise over this new and inspiring poll. Perhaps "Clinton Falls Behind" or "Obama Leads Dems in New Iowa Poll"
They call this a campaign for a reason - a long, sustained effort to capture the voters. And there is no doubt that we can win the nomination.

This Concerns me.

By a vote of 76-22, the Senate passed the Lieberman-Kyl amendment, which threatens to “combat, contain and [stop]” Iran via “military instruments.” Sen. Jim Webb (D-VA) called the amendment “Cheney’s fondest pipe dream” and said it could “read as a backdoor method of gaining Congressional validation for military action.”

UPDATE: Before the vote today, changes were made to the original amendment, with paragraphs three and four taken out completely. This paragraph was also added at the end:

“Secretary of Defense Robert Gates stated on September 16, 2007 that “I think that the administration believes at this point that continuing to try and deal with the Iranian threat, the Iranian challenge, through diplomatic and economic means is by the preferable approach. That the one we are using. We always say all options are on the table, but clearly, the diplomatic and economic approach is the one that we are pursuing.”

September 12: Senator Obama to Speak on Iraq.

Barack Obama will be making a speech today from Iowa about the War in Iraq. Let's all listen closely to what the Senator has to say. I watched for many hours today the senate hearing with General Petraeus and Ambassador Crocker. They dodged as many bullets as possible, but one notable quote was when one Senator asked Petraeus if we are safer by being in Iraq, and he said "I don't know." It was a quick moment, one we must seize on. The reality is we are losing Americans everyday over in there, our fellow citizens getting shot, injured and killed in the middle of a primarily Sunni-Shia civil war. So hopefully Obama can use his voice to speak what we are all feeling. Which is frustration, anger, inpatience, resolve and compassion.

On the Dawn of Labor Day

As Labor Day arrives, summer ends, and most everyone is back to either school or work, we will see the real race for the Nomination and White House heat up. A friend, and former Kerry campaign worker, told me this evening that the race really begins after Labor Day and that anything can happen. I'll take his word and hope that Senator Obama can rise further in the polls especially in the early primary states: Iowa, NH, Nevada and South Carolina. I've heard the charismatic speaker and intellectual in person once, and just signed up for his Washington DC event on 9/18. I think Barack would be a tremendous candidate and eventual President. We need to work together to combat some of the false rumors of "not enough experience" or "just talking about hope" -- things like that. Obama offers both spirit and substance. It's up to us to relay that to the audience, to those who need occasional spoon-feeding of who's the best candidate. September will be busy. Iraq legislation and war funding issues, primary scheduling, issues with Bush and Iran, etc Let's work hard to campaign online, in print, in person and amongst our peers. By writing this first blog post I'm on my way. Looking forward to meeting many of you in the coming weeks and months. - Mike
